Eddie turns his head towards the captain and takes in his sincerely concerned expression. He realises he hasn't seen him since the shooting.

He puts his hands in his pockets, breathing calmly. "I'm doing good," he replies, and takes a moment to appreciate the fact that it's the truth. "Really, I'm doing much better than I was just a year ago."

Mehta nods. "I'm glad, Diaz. Really."

Eddie smiles politely, ready to drop the subject. Then, "Good thing Buckley was there," Mehta adds, and it's so casual, like a thought pronounced aloud, that Eddie's brain takes a minute to process the words.

“Are you sure it’s no bother?” Bobby asks again.

He’s still wearing his uniform despite the shift having already ended and him and Eddie being the only ones of their team left. He has a pen sitting behind his ear, making him look more like an architect than a firefighter. The door to his office is ajar, and Eddie can only imagine how stressful it must be to fight fires and do paperwork in the meantime. (He’s kind of grateful Bobby has never considered him to become interim captain whenever the opportunity arose, if he’s being honest.)

Eddie fights the urge to roll his eyes at his captain – something about respecting your elders and all the kind of stuff you get taught in the army – and smiles instead, shaking his head in a fondly exasperated manner.

“Bobby, it’s fine,” he says.

“And Christopher—”

“—is at Pepa’s,” Eddie interrupts him. “I told you, it’s fine. You go have fun with Athena, I got it covered.”

“I’m sorry I couldn’t find anyone else to pin this onto,” Bobby says, and by the way Eddie does roll his eyes this time, it’s probably the fourth time or something very close to that.

“Bobby,” Eddie groans. “We have Saturday night free and I’m the only one who’s unattached. Everyone else made plans, I get it.”

Bobby nods. Something in the way he slightly narrows his eyes tells Eddie that he’s not completely convinced, though, but he lets it slide.

“You could ask Buck to come with you. You know, keep you company. He’s… unattached, too,” he says, and if this wasn’t Bobby, a 50-something year-old man, Eddie would be sure that his tone was suggesting something that Eddie is not quite willing to discuss with his captain.

He laughs it off, shrugging his shoulders. “Yeah, sure,” he says, and he hopes Bobby doesn’t realise how dry his mouth suddenly is. “I’m sure we can find ourselves a couple of fancy suits.”

Bobby nods. He clasps a hand on his shoulder, thanking him, and walks back to his office.

Eddie grips his duffel bag tighter. He looks at Buck’s locker – the one that hasn’t been used in a while, the one they used to share – and finds himself pulling out his phone and sending him a message before he has the time to even think about it.

A mild-mannered office worker turned magical girl in the fractals. Oumeko was the Captain’s Council’s receptionist when Scarlet and the Aetherblades attacked Lion’s Arch, levelling Oume’s neighborhood and killing her elderly parents in their home. Oume didn’t know what got into her that inspired her to leave a notice on her desk and hunt Mai Trin into the Mists like an animal, but she did, and after she sabotaged the Aetherblades’ Mist engine, she got stuck in unreality right along with them.

Oume has been making her way through thousands of permutations of Tyrian history and her own memories in the wild fractals. At first she looked singlemindedly for a way out, but now, after who knows how many years and loops, she’s become infatuated with Dessa, the voice on the PA system that’s guided and joked with her, maybe the only other real (real?) person in the fractals. Oume doesn’t know if she’s even the original copy of herself anymore, much less if she’d survive an exit to alpha Tyria—if she could even find one. But even if she could, she wouldn’t go without Dessa and Arkk. And the more times Oume resets the fractals to try to save them, the more time and Mist energy she builds up, until the fractals start to recognize Dessa as their purpose and center, and Oumeko as their mad, shortsighted architect.

Prem’s kid sister, Zephyrite airship engineer & inventor, Claw of Aurene. At 16, Dara survived the Zephyr Sanctum crash and chased after Aerin and the Master of Peace, intent on saving whatever the Master protected. Her hero complex and teenage delusion of invincibility drove her deep into the jungle, where she rocketed past Faolain, Caithe, Ruka, and Commander Pepiya to claim the egg for herself and the Zephyrite people. In that first moment of psychic contact with the unborn baby Aurene, Dara’s young mind was overwhelmed by raw magic and existential terror, forging an invasive, twisted bond between her and the baby dragon and leaving Dara nonverbal, magic-sensitive, and wilder than before. Reckoning with that trauma and Aurene’s ability to take over Dara’s body took years, but now their closeness is a point of pride, not a cause of horror. Dara is happy to call herself Aurene’s Claw. Dragon’s Watch guildie, Zephyrite. Born Decima (“Deck”) Whiptail of Iron Legion, she was piloting a copter in a tryout for her grandmother’s airborne warband in 1320 on the day Kralkatorrik flew over. The copters lost power in the arcane storm, but she kept hers aloft with her air elementalism, which she’d always hidden in the fahrar, and brought herself and her grandmother Tenar Kitewing safely down on the far side of the newly formed Brandscar. Tenar granted her the honorary warband name Kitetail, and they wandered northern Elona together, struggling to survive and find a way back to their Legion, or failing that, a new home & purpose in Elona. The Zephyrites were the answer. When the Zephyr Fleet was able to offer passage back to Ascalon years later, Tenar and her granddaughter, now called Cirrus, refused, having fallen in love with their new people. Cirrus joined Dragon’s Watch after the Dry Top crash. Bubbly, combative, short attention span.

The lich king promised she could “have” Amala, once Amala had sworn fealty to him, but neglected to mention they’d both be Awakened first. Raz originally developed her fighting style to help support the Sunspears’ legendary dervishes by specializing in their weak points, but after turning coat she became Joko’s favorite dervish hunter, an expert at reading their footwork, getting inside their guard, and breaking their divine channels with brutal stuns.

As a Free Awakened, jumped to defend Istan from a kryptis incursion and chased the monsters through their own rift back into Nayos. Wayfinder/SOTO protagonist.

An arranged marriage was set up with Onasis Ai, a noble of Luxon blood who was in touch with Archemorus. Though they didn’t choose each other, Ai and Genji have become best friends and devoted partners—but are unsure whether pursuing an actual romance is something they want, or just a pressure from their families, class, and the ancient lovers’ voices in their heads.

They’re both lavished and threatened with the court’s attention as a result of their magic, auspicious marriage, and developing combat skills, but they have a secret that threatens their status far more than any previous generation’s unwise investments or misplaced courtly alliances… their very young daughter Himiko has started talking about an imaginary friend she calls the Guard Man, who follows her around wearing old timey armor and dragging his swords along the floor, and gives her the power to petrify her parents with a frustrated wail, and turn small objects into jade.

Phaibun is elegant, nitpicky, and cool. Nan is skeptical, spirited, and pragmatic. They call Prem “Monkey” and Dara “Tiger.”

Genji’s wife and best friend, the vessel of Archemorus. Genji and Ai both come from organized crime families. Unlike Genji, Ai isn’t afraid of her violent heritage or of using her relatives’ underworld connections for the betterment of Cantha.

An employment discrimination lawyer and champion of Kurzick, Luxon, and tengu workers by day, a benefactor and arms dealer for the freedom fighters by night, and a courtier on paper and only by necessity, Ai has very little time for her husband and daughter. But she loves them, and looks forward to a day when Cantha’s minorities have enough influence to speak for themselves, and she can take some time off to be a mother, and see if she’s even interested in being a wife.

Years later, snuck out of the Mists under cover of the Battle of Dragonfall. Now roaming Tyria causing low-grade havoc, pursued by demons, envoys, and Priory operatives frantic to put him back in hell where he belongs. Great storyteller. Very funny.

The half-possessed Jade Brotherhood teen Prem rescued from Behemoth’s Gap. Even after months without the oni’s influence, Keino is a bitter, snappish, self-isolating girl who resents any attempt to care for her. She wants to become an investigative journalist and take down Xunlai Jade once and for all by exposing its corruption, but to do that she has to survive high school in Kaineng. Has a twisted bond with Prem, ever since the oni made her confuse him for her father.

Farrah Whitebear FAIR-uh WHITE-bear

Knut Whitebear’s adoptive daughter. An elegant, serious young norn who gave up her special interest in jotun magic to serve under Jhavi in the Vigil, hoping to eliminate Jormag’s existential threat to the norn and leave them all free to pursue their peacetime passions—a decision that got her stranded, alone, freezing from the inside out in Bjora Marches. She got better, though. Mostly. Follower of the inexorable Boar Spirit.

The Nightmare Courtier who mentored Gil when they were a sapling. Hemera was a secondborn who developed without protection from Mordremoth’s influence due to the Pale Tree and the Dream itself being stretched too thin at the time. Despite her ethereal beauty and tyrannical-but-nurturing “fairy queen” persona, Hemera has never felt anything except hunger and momentary satisfaction. She learned to Shape other sylvari’s bodies from watching her student Gil at work, and carved out a place for herself high in the Court by offering to change courtiers—either for beauty or efficacy in torture and raids—for favors. Hemera temporarily corrupted in Maguuma, but when Mordremoth fell silent in death, she twisted her body back to a parody of its old shape and started a new Nightmare sect in Siren’s Landing, where she preys on sapling researchers who wander too far from camp. She considers it her Dark Hunt to create a garden of mutilated sylvari that swallows the whole world, as Mordremoth’s jungle failed to do. Drosie’s mortal enemy.

Once a Flame Legion inquisitor called Halima Eyesear whose investigation into the nascent Molten Alliance led her to run afoul of “B” (Scarlet Briar). Their body was gifted to the Toxic Alliance, who modified it to see how Toxic mad science and Flame magic combined. The resulting creature, “Halimaka,” sizzles with deadly heat and poison vapors and drips burning acid with every step. It has no memory of its previous life with Flame, only a dizzying sense of lost community and purpose, and the worry that it wouldn’t like who it used to be even if it could remember. Undomesticated, wistful, weird.

Jubilee Shaw JOO-buh-lee SHAW

she/her 🪆49 (mind’s age)/29 (body’s age)/283 (chronological age; born 1053)

The Ascalonian Hero of Prophecies, accidentally possessing her descendant’s body after a botched attempt at channeling her as a revenant legend. Out of place and time, an elementalist in a necromancer’s slightly-too-small body, blamed for killing her great-great-grandchild when she didn’t even want to return, Billy struggles to find a place in this bright and hostile new Tyria.

Here’s a brief overview of the AU characters and some of their info for people not wanting to delve straight into the Bios of each of the characters.

1. Hallow Pepa

Mostly stable, emotionless until provoked (via artifacts), history of depression and suicidal tendencies, likes to read and make sure the unit is functional. Dislikes crying, heights and mess.

2. Tek Felix

Fully stable, happily married and enjoys his work in the mulitverse, Cares as much as the canon Felix does for family variants.

3. Pariah Julieta

Unstable, technology used to remain mentally stable. Going through therapy. Double amputee of left arm, right leg and right eye. Deep sense of fear of her native world and combat trained for combat missions. Suppressed natural gift, artifact grants a new gift.

4. Pariah Verana

Only surviving twin child of Pariah. Semi stable, anger issues, gift of paralytic gaze--glowy pupils. throwing knives and protective of her mother.

5. Wanderer Mirabel

Stable, but unhinged. Absence of native family over 100 Years have caused some personalities changes. Violent tendencies and suppressed trauma. Loves children.

6. Distort Camilo

Stable mentally, unstable physically after irradiated in the collapse of his native world, shifting ability suppressed to retain some stability. Grumpy AF and tendencies to provoke arguments, but loyal to those he cares about.

7. Shifter Antonio

Kidnapped at 3, feral after 7 years in the woods with a animal-shifter gift, being educated to be more human. Still adjusting, can’t shake a few bad habits. Likes to be with Distort and Wanderer.

8. Stray Agustín

Stable, works closely with Pariah. Enjoys spending time with his remaining family, weary of returning to native world. Facial scars and a interest in keeping his family safe.

9. Stray Dolores

Stable, happily married, two children with a protheitc right eye with scars from jaguar attack. Combat trainer, but not part of missions. Praimary carer of her children; loves babies. Barely remembers her native family left behind when she was 6.

10. Stray Felicity

five years old, cute but loud with her enhanced vocal gift. Loves stealing her papa’s food--she gets away with it.

11. Stray Fabian

New-born, adorable. multi-coloured eyes (green and brown), very clingy-always hungry.

12. Decay Isabela

Semi-stable, disabled; double amputee but has mechanical replacements. No desire to return to native world, loves her son and has a tendency to sleep around with non-related colleagues to relax or cope with stress.

13. Decay Dante

five years old, ghost-based gift. Very protective of his Mama. Loves Pariah like she’s his Abuela. He likes to draw and make things, but very curious about the worlds around him. Has the tendency to keep people out.

14. Abscond Luisa

Stable, not in combat situations unless necessary, Giftless but has an architect that grants her gift. Mother of twins by the time she was 18. No desire to return to native world; fear of judgment of bastard twins.

15. Abscond Lydia

Seven years old, adorable with a portal-opening gift. lazy in some bases but has a 200 IQ. Enjoys dismantling things with her brother to learn about them. Low emotional responses.

16. Abscond Pablo

Seven years old, adorable, metal-manipulating gift. Enjoys creating stuff with metal, dismantling things and mischief. He also has a 200 IQ, so low emotional responses as a result.

17. Fracture Alma

Not in original body; Original died age 68 after an argument; soul transferred via artefact to new, younger body with new-born triplets. Non-combat and teaches ethics in the educational centre.

Naturally, Camilo built up this fortress of instincts on a stronger foundation than either of his siblings. Her wicked little architect of terror.

Pepa, having had to rise up to the tiiiips of her toes to pinch the chameleon Mariano's ear, gave it a wag. "Drop it. Drop it now and stop teasing your sister, or so help me I will make sure Casita lessens your dessert portions. Go on!" Wag, wag, wag!

NAVAS HOUSE IN REUS. CATALONIA - SPAIN:

Casa Navàs is, due to its state of conservation, one of the best examples of Modernism at a European level. Built between 1901 and 1908 by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner and the decorator Gaspar Homar. The building was commissioned by Joaquim Navàs and Pepa Blasco, a married couple of wealthy merchants who wanted a store house on one of the corners of Plaça del Mercadal. The request had an almost limitless budget, which is why it became one of the most luxurious works of the Barcelona architect.

Reus was one of the most bombed cities during the Spanish Civil War and Casa Navàs, in 1938, lost its corner tower due to one of the bombs, which gave the building an elegant and slender appearance.

Behind the current image of the building hides the most complete, fanciful and splendid interior of Catalan modernism. Entering the house is like entering a large garden full of flourishes in which the stained glass windows of more than two hundred square meters of surface stand out. Almost all the decorative elements such as the furniture, the work of the best artists and craftsmen of the time, are also preserved intact.

It is the only modernist building in Europe that preserves all of its original interior.

So I watched Encanto and got way too attached to this family. This is the result...

Home is Wherever I'm With You: The Mendez Family

Alma and Pedro Madrigal attempted to flee from Shuriki's reign of terror, fearing that she would discover their magic and bring harm to them and their triplet newborns.

Well, Shuriki eventually found out, and gave chase to the Madrigals and others who were attempting to escape into the northern kingdom of Misthaven. Just as they crossed the Conteteda River to catch a ferry, disaster struck, the soldiers caught them, and Pedro sacrificed himself.

You know how the story goes from there.

A year after the family pieced itself back together thanks to Mirabel, the Madrigal's were thriving, and the town flourishing. Alma even agreed to lower the magic surrounding it, allowing outsiders in and allowing the residents to explore the surrounding towns. This was only done after it was revealed that Shuriki was dead and Princess Elena had assumed the throne.

Bruno saw a vision of the family being swept up in Regina's curse, and though the family tried to re-fortify Encanto, they were unsuccessful, and swept away to Storybrooke.

Thankfully, the curse kept the family together, and they are some of the most beloved members of the town.

Alma Paula (María Cecilia Botero) is a retired teacher, and a close friend of Granny.

Pedro Miguel (Fabián Ríos) was tragically killed in the Storybrooke Mines. His death was what lead to their closure.

Julieta Sara (Angie Cepeda) runs the Storybrooke Bakery, and is the go-to for celebration desserts.

Pepa Antonella (Judy Reyes) is the town's Meteorologist, and her predictions are known to be freakishly accurate. Isn't it a shame she doesn't work for a national network...?

Bruno Juan (John Leguizamo) is a writer for the newspaper, but has stacks of fiction books that he's nervous about sending to publishers.

Isabela Ines (Sofia Carson) is a florist for Game of Thornes. She's the wild one of the family, frequenting The Rabbit Hole with Lacey and Ruby.

Luisa Daniella (Sarah Robles) is a college student, and also works at the Storybrooke Bookstore as a way to relax.

Mirabel Carolina (Belissa Escobedo) is a high school student, and is often found after school at Sara's bakery.

Dolores Andrea (Adassa) is Tomas' fianceé, and a DJ, typically for weddings in the town, but also for school dances or other large events.

Camillo Diego (Mauricio Lara) is a high school student. He's the class clown and frequently lands in detention.

Antonio Oscar is an elementary school student with a penchant for animals.

Augustín Carlos (Pedro Pascal) is a fisherman, frequently tangled in his equipment.

Félix Matias (Mauro Castillo) is an architect, and designed most of Storybrooke's playgrounds, along with Sara's bakery.

Mariano Tomas (Maluma) is Andrea's fiancé, and works as a jeweler, at the store owned by his mother.

Created after the first Miracle, the Architects create and uphold the development of the multiverse of Encanto. distinguished by glowing eyes and threaded markings along their skin.

They are omnipotent beings, often without form as they share and channel their abilities for the good of development. Each tend to favour an area of existence to oversee but there’s often a lot of overlap on capabilities. (please ignore the fact i was inspired by the Infinity Stones). Most Architects aren’t firmly connected, if at all to emotion or ‘personal’ connection

Alma is the main overseer and has access to all of her ‘family’s’ abilities and often makes the calls on what worlds should be pruned and what’s worthy of being. She’s the main face when interacting with the Watcher AU and the one to bestow a gift onto an individual. Given her great power, she can be limited; such as not being able to finds certain mortals in the noise of the multiverse; to why she also relies on her ‘family’ to spread the burden. Alma often chooses not to have as much ‘glow’ when interacting with humans, as this can be quite intimidating

Julieta is a overseer of the souls, this does also dabble into healing, as means to connect with her mortal variants. but she’s able to channel, resurrect or even create astral plains to lead ghosts to a place of peace, which in some worlds is necessary. If some mortal requires her, she’ll extract a heavy price for it unless she feels interested enough to do it herself without ‘payment’.

Bruno is overseer of Time, living most often in boredom of knowing as time is not linear; it’s fluid and he experiences existence all at once. He’s impossible to scare but often leaves Architect artefacts for mortal versions of himself to give him some form of entertainment, like his green Ruana to the hands of Dweller Bruno. He’s very apathetic and unlikely to be interested in interacting with mortals; to him they don’t last long enough to be interesting.

Pepa is the overseer of Reality; assisting mostly in keeping AU strands from intercepting violently, protecting the established timeline when the Watchers fail. She’s the only Architect to create a personal reality; simulating a version of ‘Felix’ as she’s the one with firmer connections to emotions out of her ‘siblings’ after Julieta. She’s interested more to understand people’s connections to their worlds. She’ll typically voice against worlds that she doesn’t think need to be pruned; she can make changes after all... Of course, like her ‘brother’ she’ll instigate things to make exitance interesting; leaving her personal artefacts for her counterparts; influences a few decisions here and there that creates new realities...
