Dis-armingly magical
When my sister and I were kids, I used to have a Skipper doll, one of the old ones that were much smaller than Barbies, that I was quite fond of. She was cute and had ball-jointed arms (which was Huge at the time, as this was The 90s), and she could wear the clothes made for Ariel dolls (who were also quite small at the time). She was my Main Character doll and got played with a lot, to the point where her head came off at one point and had to be glued back on.
Then one of her arms broke off and I was both sad and “dang, I need a new one now, no coming back from this one.” My mom got me a new doll... and my sister asked if she could have the old one. To which I went “um, sure? I don’t know why, but sure?”
And that is how the Skipper with the detached magical flying arm came into existence. Sometimes it would be slipped into the sleeve of a dress so she would look ‘normal’ (or because our villain of the day didn’t want her to be different), but more often it was just this casual superpower she had, where her arm was separate from her body but still completely under her control, and it remains one of the strangest and coolest things that ever happened in my sister’s and my history of playing with Barbies.
