calum saying at the end of the stationhead AND at the end of zach sang that hes off to studio sessions afterward... 5sos6 is so close i can feel it. (my personal prediction is a single in october/november and album next year in june/july bc we know they like to take a long ass time between first single and album release lol and then maybe tour from the summer until end of next year, finishing up in australia). the only thing throwing my theory slightly is michael apparently saying he want to tour his album, so if that ends up being the case maybe no 5sos content until next year, but who knows atp
It's soooo hard to know what to expect, I think I've given up trying to predict tbh 😭 Like. I have to keep reminding myself that even though it feels like this album has been in the works forever, it's been less than a year since they got back in the studio and even then, it appears they've only been working intermittently over that time frame (both Luke and Ash have made multiple lengthy trips home to Sydney, Michael just barely moved back to LA and ofc there's the complexities of Cal and Michael's solo promo schedules). The fact they're still actively in writing/recording sessions makes me think the album may still have a while to go. and it's hard to say if they'd want to release a single without the album itself being done (and like you said, a single release this year could also be made complicated by a Michael tour, which looks likely atp) so idk. 😭 As for tour, I'm sure they're dying to get out on the road but touring before an album has caused those long releases in the past and they've expressed mixed feelings about that approach, so again, it's impossible to know what the logical move is here. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Now that 4/4 have released solo music and all have singles, do you have a ranking of which first single off the first album you like the most?
I just found this ask from a couple months ago half-answered and absolutely buried in my drafts, so I wanted to finish it, apologize to the anon for my tardiness (it happens but I'm trying to be better!) and post. 😌 (And adding a cut because it's a long one because of course it is lmao).
What a trip that we live in a world where we actually get to pose this question to each other! Incredible times! I think it's remarkable that while none of the solos necessarily sound like 5SOS, you can absolutely see how their individual musicalities all combine to create the 5SOS sound.
I think all the debuts are objectively well-crafted songs, so ranking is more a matter of personal taste/experience than quality. I definitely had a gut reaction rank and that's ultimately what I decided to go with, though I will say numbers 1 & 2 could easily swap places (tbh 3 & 4 could swap with each other as well)
4. Cool - CRAZY earworm, I can listen to it once and have it in my head for the next day. It's an enjoyable, easy listen, the kind of light, breezy vibe that's perfect for spring/summer. I admit it's a lot poppier than I expected but I think it still makes total sense as a debut for Michael. Honestly, it's solid, it's just ranking here because it doesn't resonate as strongly on a personal level as the others do for me.
3. Skinny Skinny - Are you surprised I know how to be objective about this dude? (Me too tbh) I love the production, love that he chose a debut that showcases his vocals especially the harmonies that layer throughout the track. I always love this man's lyricism and his melodic ear and both are in fine form. However, I don't love this as a lead single - I think both in style and in subject matter it was alienating enough that it deterred a lot of the fanbase from checking out future releases (even to this day). I also don't think it was an accurate representation of what Superbloom had to offer sonically - I personally think either of the next singles, Have U Found What Ur Looking For? or Scar, would've been a more fitting introduction to Ashton's solo work and better received outside of his own lane.
2. Starting Line - It's hard to know what to say about this song... it's just one of those songs that's so good it feels like a miracle. It feels like a crash course of what Luke excels at as an artist: earnest sentiment, poetic but relatable lyricism, evocative instrumentals punctuated by strong vocals and sticky melodies. The crescendo of the pre-chorus into that rise and fall instrumentation of the chorus felt otherworldly on first listen (and experiencing it live? Jfc, instant core memory) and as a whole, the song packs an emotional punch without ever feeling manipulative or contrived. To me, it's a perfect mission statement for what WFTTWTAF was.
1. Don't Forget You Love Me - The upside of me taking forever to answer this ask is that I can now confidently say there is no recency bias here. This song still floors me every single time I listen to it and I have heard it a lot. It just feels like wonder of both songwriting and production. There are at least half a dozen hooks, the lyrics feel somehow both specific and universal, and the instrumentation fits the emotion so well, it becomes cinematic. It's hard not to picture these scenes as they play out in the song, it feels like you're living these feelings alongside him. I have legit skipped this song on shuffle because it will without fail stop me in my tracks, I can't not get caught up in it. AND those vocals? Cal in his lower register? Come on. 10/10. No notes.

Do you think the "Ashton Speaks to Michael" video, Luke's lip ring, Ketchup, and Calum's green hoodie are all chilling together reminiscing on the old times and looking forward to the future and who else may join them?
Do you think they're enjoying whatever goes on in fandom heaven or is it more like a sad Jessie in Toy Story situation where they're still convinced the band will come back for them? ("Guys, it happened to Pizza, why couldn't it happen to us too?!")

do we think the calum instagram live where he reads people's tarot will actually happen or will it be another bloody snare giveaway/the making of 5sos5 part 2 situation 🤭
On the one hand we were just commending Team OCO for a job well done, so I'd like to say yes but on the other, this week marks 6 years of wondering what happened to the "Ashton Speaks To Michael" interview. So. Who can say 😂😂

CalumHood: This was one of the first songs that was written for the album with Jackson Phillips, who produced a lot of it. At the start, candidly, l'd just write and see what intuitively would come out. I wrote the first verse on my birthday. One of my best friends gave me a painting and it said "Sun behind the sun." I thought that was beautiful, so I based the whole verse around that. We had a few versions of that song in particular and it was missing a part for me. One day, I sat outside and the whole chorus came to me. It became like the conversations that you still have after someone or something has passed. It becomes a form of communicating still. As I get older, it goes all the way back to square one simplicity for me. What do I love? Who do I love? What do I cherish? Who do I cherish? It's that simple for me. This is I Wanted To Stay #ORDERchaosORDER

yes to everything you said about EMI! another thing i noticed is that it seems like cal had full creative control with the actual album itself- as in he was able to work with who he wanted (i.e. andy and day wave), create the visualisers he wanted to and put out the singles he wanted to, which i guess is kind of a rarity in the industry so i love that he got to execute his vision for the album with their support (of course i could be totally wrong but from what hes said in interviews and stuff it really seems like the label wasnt super involved in this stuff)- as well as many people at his album listening parties/events saying his team was super lovely as well, which makes me really happy.
Yes, agree! It very much sounds like everything that happened along the way, from the scrapped songs to the time frame to the collaborators, was driven by the natural creative process. Like it was either going to happen on his terms or not at all. Which is how it should be for artists! And when it came time for label involvement, it appeared that his team was stacked with people who not only understood the project and his vision but him and perhaps most importantly, the fanbase! A+ all around tbqh. An impressive campaign from top to bottom. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
