The Asahi Beer Hall, or Super Dry Hall, is a building in Sumida City Ward, Tokyo, adjacent to the headquarters of Asahi Breweries. Located near the famous Tokyo Skytree, It’s home to a three-story restaurant serving beer straight from the factory.
Designed by French designer Philippe Starck, the Beer Hall was completed in 1989. Its shape is supposed to resemble a beer glass, while the headquarters building is shaped like a beer-filled mug complete with suds.
The Beer Hall is topped by the Asahi Flame, also known as the Flamme d’Or. The monument of a golden fire is said to represent the burning heart of Asahi beer and was inspired by the Olympic flame.
Unfortunately, that’s not how it looks to most people. Locals and tourists alike are often confused by the monument’s ambiguous shape.  It’s now commonly referred to as the “Golden Turd.” The building has earned its own nickname as well, “the Poo Building.”

@userdramas get to know me bingo: relationship tanioka hatsune x tokiwa asahi | reversal orchestra (2023)
“So [Asahi] lost all of his confidence, he started to have doubts about pursuing a career in music. He even thought about taking over the brewery at one point. However, he was also worried about whether he could really run a sake brewery, being a non-drinker. But I was Asahi's fan, I really didn't want him to abandon music, so I took him to a certain concert. That was a concert by Tanoka Hatsune, who was still in primary school. It was wonderful. Seeing you enjoying music from the bottom of your heart, Asahi decided to live with music. I think he was happy when he found you. He's a pain in the ass, but take care of him, concertmaster.”

Hope you are having a wonderful trip and sending good thoughts!
Having an absolutely delightful trip!!! Today on Halloween, we went to a tour at the Asahi Brewery Museum (and had a tasting, natch) and then wandered around Dotonbori snacking and people-watching for a few hours. It was really fun!!

and as a lil trick, I’ll tell you a story I heard as a child that straight-up traumatized me!
I know that a lot of cultures cover mirrors after deaths in the family for a lot of reasons, but the reason I was told as a child was that mirrors were gates to the spirit world. You had to cover them up when family members died because otherwise, you might see your family member in the glass behind you.
Then… what’s worse, really, the idea of your loved one being trapped in a mirror forever or that they might find a way out…?
Anyway, my grandfather died shortly after I heard this and there was a mirror in my bedroom and I cried until my parents took it down lmao. Still have as few mirrors as possible in my house to this day! haha

what beers different groups in middle-earth drink
Men of Gondor: none other Coors Banquet! Rich, satisfying, and widely palatable, no other brew is fitting for such a grand and storied society. Faramir, a sensitive soul, instead goes for Natty Boh, and Denethor has never forgiven him. Sad!
Men of Rohan: India Pale Ales, of course! You need those hops for your brewskis to last during long campaigns on horseback, far from the grand breweries of Edoras. Coincidentally, this means that Meduseld takes on an appearance not dissimilar from Portland, which doesn't seem far off the mark
the Men of the Mountain: Once the Men of the Mountain were an upstanding people, but they reneged, demurred, turned tail on a vow they could not afford to break. They linger on in a cursed half-life, their honor broken, forever spurned by Coors drinkers, and in this afflicted state they drink only O'Doul's non-alcoholic beer. a tragic tale indeed.
Elves: Wine. Mostly expensive. They can tell from the taste if it's from Napa, and if you try to serve them east coast American wine they'll kill you on the spot
Orcs and Goblins: MAD DOG 20/20 BABY LET'S FUCKING GO cmon you know i'm right. Once they were as Elves, but they were brought low, twisted into a strange, brutal new shape, their bodies fortified just as their wine is. Don't knock it, though; if you know where to look, they can serve up some mean fucking port.
Hobbits: Depends on where you look. Closer to the kingdoms of Men, you'll find various ciders, but delving deeper into the Shire, you find a variety of dubbels and tripels, the kind of Dutch and Belgian pale ales that make you wonder what the point of it all is, asking yourself why you drink that shlock they serve at your home pub when this exists.
Dwarves: Porters/stouts. Guinness is on the tame end for these hearty, earthen fucks. Dwarf beer is like drinking mud. You think you can handle a Dwarven coffee stout? Think again, shithead. Dwarf beer is the kind of shit that'll have you singing songs with "hiho" in them.
the line of Numenor: Asahi, the king of beers. Nothing else needs to be said.
Wizards: Modelo. When Saruman began to be warped by Sauron's influence, his noble mind bending to plans of domination, the implacable machinery and chemistry of empire, he became a whisky guy. Like one of those dudes who has the special rocks in his freezer so he can drink it cold without getting diluted
the Nazgul: Once they were great kings of Men. Once they lived, like you and I, and they tasted the fruit of the world and rejoiced as we do now. Once they danced under the stars, savored oats and meat and the water of the spring, and celebrated the good fortune of their existence, but no longer. All that is good has been leeched out of them, their joy, love, and pain all distilled away by the machinery of Sauron, and now they drink twisted, dark things, White Claw, Twisted Tea, Not Your Father's Root Beer, Four Loko, and worse.

cool frame but im more interested in the background details
Tumblr media
Asabi plaque obviously is referring to a real-life japanese drinks brand, Asahi. i associate it with beer, as the brand began as Asahi Breweries, so it was very confusing how would anyone allow beer company sponsor arena where teenagers play (this view has so much to do with recent alcohol law where i live). But there's a subordinary of Asahi Soft Drink.
Japan has similar drinking laws as here, but seems like advertisement laws are more loose. but it could also be referring to soft drinks, dunno

beer
In my city there is an Asahi Beer factory. If you apply for a factory tour, you can tour the factory and sample a couple of beers for free. This time there was a special paid factory tour, so I joined it. We were served a delicious snack lunch and tasted a new can of beer. The beer had a very tasty creamy foam.

Understanding the Economic Impact of the Alcoholic Beverages Market
The Global Alcoholic Beverages Market will grow at highest pace owing to rising socialization and disposable income The global alcoholic beverages market includes a variety of alcoholic drinks such as beer, wine, and spirits. Beer remains the most popular alcoholic drink consumed globally due to its affordable costs and refreshing taste. Wine is considered a luxury drink and is majorly consumed during social gatherings and festive occasions. Spirits such as whiskey, vodka, gin, and rum are gaining traction among the young population as premium drinks. Rising socialization, growing purchasing power, expanding distribution channels, and changing lifestyles have been driving the sale of alcoholic beverages across the globe. The Global Alcoholic Beverages Market is estimated to be valued at US$ 1,769.41 Bn in 2024 and is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 2.5% over the forecast period 2023 to 2030. Key Takeaways Key players operating in the alcoholic beverages are Anheuser-Busch Inbev (BUD) (Belgium)Asahi Group (Japan)Bacardi (Bermuda)Brown Forman (U.S.)Carlsberg (Denmark)Constellation Brands (U.S.)Diageo (U.K.)Heineken (Netherlands)Pernod Ricard (France)Suntory (Japan). The increasing disposable income and changing demographic trends have been fueling the demand for new flavors and premium alcoholic drinks. Rapid urbanization, western influence, and rising social media promotions have encouraged experimental tastes and innovative product launches. Technological advancements in breweries and distilleries have improved efficiency, quality, and production capacity. Market Trends Health consciousness is influencing product innovation toward low- and no- alcohol drinks. Companies are introducing flavored alcoholic beverages and ready-to-drink cocktails to capture new consumers. Sustainability has become an important business priority for brands. They are focusing on eco-friendly packaging and renewable energy sourcing. Market Opportunities Emerging markets like Asia Pacific and Middle East offer immense growth potential. Rising middle class and experimental young population are lucrative consumer segments. Online retail channels provide opportunities to penetrate new regions and expand reach. Functional beverages infused with botanicals and nutrients can attract health-conscious customers. Companies can explore opportunities in cannabis-infused drinks after legalization in some regions. Impact of COVID-19 on Alcoholic Beverages Market Growth The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the growth of the alcoholic beverages market. During the peak of lockdowns in 2020, on-trade sales suffered tremendously as bars, pubs and restaurants were closed for several months. This led to a decline in overall consumption as these venues account for a major share of alcoholic beverage sales worldwide. However, off-trade sales increased as people stocked up beverages to consume at home during lockdowns. Beer was the hardest hit segment due to its high on-trade consumption. Spirits and wine fared better relatively as they had a better mix of off-trade sales. Going forward, the market is forecast to return to growth driven by rapid recovery in the on-trade channel along with sustained elevated off-trade demand. However, risks of future lockdowns due to virus mutations remains a challenge in the long-term outlook. Maintaining operational resilience and adapting product portfolios according to changing consumer preferences will be crucial for industry players in the post-pandemic landscape. Fastest Growing Region in the Alcoholic Beverages Market The Asia Pacific region is poised to be the fastest growing market for alcoholic beverages over the forecast period. This can be attributed to improving economic conditions, expanding middle class and shifting social trends in multiple developing countries. Rapid urbanization provides major opportunities for premiumization as young consumers aspire for international branded beverages.

Free beer in Fukuoka
Yes, you did read that correctly.
Free beer, that’s what I went to Fukuoka for.
Well, not exactly.
I went to Fukuoka in order to go to South Korea, as the ferry to Korea leaves from there.
When I got to Fukuoka late at night the hostel was closed.
I’d e-mailed them to say what time I’d get in so they had sent me the front door code.
They’d left a note outside the front door, it started with ‘Dear Brian…..’
I took this in a 'dear leader…", kind of meaning, but of course it was just their way of starting the note.
Inside the hostel there was another note, again apologising for the fact that they closed at 9pm.
The next day the hostel rang the nearby Asahi brewery to see if they a tour I could do.
There was a Korean group in the afternoon, but I’d be more than welcome to join the tour.
I walked the 15minutes to the brewery.
They were expecting me.
The tour had a real Willie Wonka feel about it as we were going through a working brewery.
We were allowed to take photos at times, but not when we got to the working part of the factory.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the tour we were brought to the tasting room, there was a special place set aside for me.
Tumblr media
We were allowed to have three glasses of beer.
Tumblr media
fterwards I give the guide a Guinness beer mat, I think she appreciated it!
Imbued with a sense of generosity I buy some souvenirs in the Asahi store which is conveniently located in the tasting room.
Fukuoka didn’t set itself apart from many other Japanese cities.

Stout Market Report 2024-2032, Size, Trends, Share, Demand and Future Scope
The global stout market size is expected to exhibit a growth rate (CAGR) of 4.06% during 2024-2032.
Tumblr media
IMARC Group's report titled "Stout Market Report By Distribution Channel (On-trade, Off-trade), and Region 2024-2032", The global stout market size is expected to exhibit a growth rate (CAGR) of 4.06% during 2024-2032.
For an in-depth analysis, you can refer sample copy of the report: https://www.imarcgroup.com/stout-market/requestsample
Factors Affecting the Growth of the Stout Industry:
Rising Popularity of Craft and Artisanal Beers:
The increasing interest in craft and artisanal beers due to a preference for unique, locally produced, and high-quality brews among the masses is bolstering the market growth. Stout, with its diverse flavor profile, is becoming a favorite among craft beer enthusiasts. Consumers are drawn to the distinct taste profiles offered by stouts, ranging from classic dry Irish stouts to inventive, flavor-infused varieties. This enthusiasm is further driven by the storytelling and branding opportunities that stouts provide, allowing breweries to create a deeper connection with their audience. Craft breweries often emphasize the heritage, ingredients, and brewing processes, which resonate well with a market segment that values authenticity and product backstory.
Seasonal and Limited-Edition Releases:
Unique and limited-edition stout releases generate excitement and anticipation among consumers, creating a sense of urgency and exclusivity that drives sales. Seasonal stouts, especially those released during fall and winter, align with consumer preferences for warmer, richer beers during colder months. Additionally, the release of pumpkin-flavored or spiced stouts in autumn aligns with seasonal culinary trends, while rich, chocolatey, or barrel-aged stouts are popular in winter. Limited-edition stouts also offer breweries a chance to experiment with innovative flavors and brewing techniques, often resulting in a premium product that can command a higher price point. This strategy not only drives sales during the release period but also enhances brand visibility and reputation, encouraging consumers to explore the other offerings by the brewery, thereby sustaining interest in the stout category year-round.
Integration of Technology in Brewing and Marketing:
Technological advancements in brewing equipment are allowing for greater precision and consistency in stout production, leading to higher-quality products. Automated brewing systems and data analytics are enabling breweries to enhance their recipes, ensuring that each batch meets the desired standards. Additionally, breweries are leveraging digital platforms for branding and buyer engagement. Social media campaigns, virtual tastings, and interactive websites provide a platform for breweries to educate consumers about stouts and share their stories, enhancing user engagement. E-commerce platforms are also making it easier for consumers to purchase stouts, broadening the market reach.

Anheuser-Busch InBev
Asahi Group Holdings Ltd.
Carlsberg Breweries A/S
Diageo plc
Heineken N.V.
Kirin Brewery Co. Ltd.
Molson Coors Beverage Company

Stout Market Report Segmentation:
By Distribution Channel:

Regional Insights:
North America (United States, Canada)
Asia Pacific (China, Japan, India, South Korea, Australia, Indonesia, Others)
Europe (Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Russia, Others)
Latin America (Brazil, Mexico, Others)
Middle East and Africa
Europe dominates the market due to its rich brewing heritage, diverse consumer base, and the popularity of stout beverages across the region.
Global Stout Market Trends:
The growing experimentation with a wide array of flavors and ingredients in stout is offering a favorable market outlook. Breweries are pushing the boundaries beyond traditional recipes to include a variety of adjuncts like coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and even unconventional ingredients like chili peppers and fruits. This innovation caters to a growing segment of consumers eager for unique taste experiences. The trend is not just about adding flavors but also about how these flavors are integrated into the brewing process to create complex, multi-layered profiles. This experimental approach is leading to a rise in interest, particularly among younger demographics who are always on the lookout for something new and different in their beverages.
