Tyrande found Ash’alah by accident, shortly before she joined the Sisterhood of Elune, when the frostsaber was still a cub. She was hunting and found the saber cat hungry and alone, seemingly lost. First intention was to take her back to her family, but Tyrande was unable to find them. She fed Ash’alah, leaving her at the forest and returning the next day, something that would be repeated for a while. Soon enough, the cub began accompanying her in hunting, and later chose to follow her home. Ash’alah is a friend and a companion, not simply a pet; she chose Tyrande even before Tyrande chose her.

Night elf priestess fashion

Tyrande Whisperwind, Wood Elf Beast Master Ranger/Twilight Domain Cleric
For Tyrande, choosing Ranger and Cleric was pretty easy, considering her canon backstory and her abilities. I chose Beast Master as her Ranger subclass so she could have Ash'Alah as her Ranger's Companion. As for her Cleric subclass, I chose the Twilight domain to reflect her connection to Elune- changed to Selûne to reflect the D&D pantheon. While I am aware that Warcraft Night Elves were initially based on the Drow, I personally think that the abilities of the Wood Elves fit them better- Fleet of Foot for the speed increase and Mask of the Wild to reflect the racial Night Elf ability Shadowmeld. For her background, I went with Acolyte to fit her backstory of becoming a novice priestess in adulthood.
Jaina Sylvanas Valeera Liadrin Thalyssra Ysera
Design thoughts below:
To point out the obvious: yes, I know that Wood Elves are described to usually have copper or tan skin. But for the sake of character recognition, and keeping in mind that I haven't changed any others' color schemes drastically, I decided to keep her purple skin and green hair. For her armor, I decided that she would be lightly armored despite her cleric multiclass letting her wear medium and heavy armor. I wanted her to have a "moon" theme throughout her design, both on her armor and her jewelry. Matching Elune and Selûne was a clear choice from the start, and I decided to change Tyrande's canon eye-markings to instead be Selûne's symbol- If anyone has played Baldur's Gate 3, that's where I got the specific tattoo design from. Instead of keeping her dress or giving her a cloak, I decided to give her a tabard with that tie back to her being a Cleric of Selûne and skirts to keep her silhouette strong. I wanted her to clearly be worshipping Selûne while still being able to move around and fight when needed. And, of course, Ash'Alah is by her side- re-skinned to be a White Tiger.

Syndruin-series ch.8/1
8. Whispers of jealousy (part 1)
Lisy was silent on the way back to Stormwind. She confirmed to herself, that she is jealous as hell. She was afraid, if Anduin will chose Taelia over her. She even had a nightmare last night.
- Are you alright, my love? - just needed to think of him. But she was tired to start an arguement. So she pretends, for now.
- I'm okay... just tired, that's all.
- I understand, especially what you went through... while you were out.
- Even the great warriors can exhaust... What about you?
- I'm just relieved to see you again. - kissed her cheek. - And i haven't received any notes from you in this week.
- What if i told you, it was a little revenge, like years ago? - she saw Anduin's confused expression, but she laughed.- I was busy too, nah.
- Okay, okay. You were busy, and see? I ain't even make a fuss about.
- Because you're not as hot-headed as me!
The king didn't ask more, he just hugged Lisy tightly.
- By the way... how are things in the Arathi Highlands? I heard, the Alliance & the Horde battling over.
- Ah yes... territory marking. But we're doing well there, we just can't let them come close to spread to south. And i just got a message from Warden Shadowsong. It's urgent!
- Is it okay, if i'll attend at the council?
- My command is, be there!
***
- I wish things were different, High Priestess. But with the war in both Arathi & Zandalar, an assault on Darkshore would stretch us too thin. - Anduin tried to reason with Tyrande, back in Stormwind. Lisy stood beside him & just listened. In her opinion, she may side with the night elf. It was true, a mass genocide, like what happened weeks ago, she even almost died in the fire.
- My people need action, not excuses! We will not languish in Stormwind, while the Horde defiles our lands!
Anduin pleaded, that he promises, after the war, they will recover Teldrassil, but Tyrande didn't listen. She will take the kaldorei's fate in her hands then, if no one lend theirs.
Later Maiev Shadowsong told, Tyrande left for Darkshore.
- Lisyndra, our forces in Zuldazar have not yet begun their assault. With your aid, we may be succeed on both fronts.
- You can count on me! - then she turned to Shandris. - Let me help you then, the more, the merrier.
- Our ship waits in the harbor, what are we waiting for then?
Lisy nodded, then left.
***
Seeing Darkshore again, Lisy couldn't even think, she'd ever return. And the silence... killing.
Arriving there, Shandris noticed a destroyed kaldorei ship. That must be Tyrande's. She probably did it on purpose. Shandris ordered to find any clues about the High Priestess's whereabout.
Lisy looked around at the destroyed ship & found an ancient tome. She didn't understand Darnassian, so she showed to the others.
- That tome... could it be?
- The Night Warrior. - Maiev answered. - The ritual will kill her! We depart for Darkshore immediately.
She, Maiev, Sira & Shandris rowed to the shore, while they discussed the information. Legends says, Elune, their goddess has an another incarnation. Her wrath.
As the group wandered north, they collected Tyrande's left belongings. At a forsaken camp, they rescued her saber, Ash'alah, and freed kaldorei captives.
- Uhm... warden Maiev? Can i ask about the ritual? I mean, why is it dangerous?
- Legends says long ago, Elune bestowed her fury upon our greatest warriors to secure Kalimdor. In a sacred ritual, the strongest among them became her avatar. The Night Warrior. Our victory was swift. None who have attempted the ritual since then survived. Elune's raw power tears them apart.
- Oh... i just hope we'll arrive in time. Does even Tyrande know the risks, if she completes the ritual?
- Probably, young warrior. - then they saw a familiar figure. - There she is!
Lisy couldn't decide, that they arrived in time, or late? But it seemed it didn't matter. Tyrande will complete the Night Warrior's ritual. So she & the others protects her, while performing. And it succeeded, Elune heard her prayers & gave the power. And she changed a little physically. With her new power, they succeeded for now. But at the shore, they caught Nathanos, but he escaped with the valkyr's help, and some dead kaldorei were raised as new Dark Rangers. The former captain, Delaryn had the same fate. Along Sira Moonwarden.
***
- When this war began, i thought we were figthing for peace. But we're just... fighting.
They stood in the harbor, watching the soldiers - survived, injured, or dead - took off the ships. Lisy haven't experienced a big war, like before.
- You're doing all you can to stop her, Your Majesty. - said Genn.
- Yeah, we're tryin' our best. I'm afraid, we'll have a mass of loss, if we can't end this as soon as possible. - said Lisy.
She saw Anduin's face. Like he has something in his mind.
- What are you up to?
- It's hard to explain, i'll tell later in private. - then he went to the Stockades. Later Lisy went home. She needed to talk someone, who understands her.
- Ah Lisy, i should get used to the fact, that you always come home without any warning. - said Meredith, as her daughter stepped in.
- Yea, mum, it's good to see you! Uhm... - she sat in the dining room. - Can we talk? Like in a typical mother-daughter way?
- Does something bother you?
- Kinda...
- Is it about Anduin?
- How did you know?
- Only a  mother knows her daughter more than anyone else.
Then Lisy told her the whole story, from arriving Kul Tiras, 'til the uniting ceremony.
- So you see a threat in her?
- She has noble lineage, and her father has a big name. And im afraid Genn would make them get together.
Meredith thought for a moment. What advice she needs the most right now?
- And... have you told him, what are you feeling now?
- Not yet... i don't want argue with him... the last time we did... it wasn't pleasant to meet again.
- Since that girl introduced herself in Boralus, you are... different. Don't tell me, you are jealous!
- Between a Fordragon & a Stonehart, what are the odds? Seriously, i'm afraid i have no chance. And what if the House of Nobles intervene?
- If he loves you, he wouldn't let them speak up against you. You have everything, what a worthy queen might have. You are strong, iron-willed, you used your strategic skills back in the Broken Isles, but you sometimes do unladylike things, like drinking, brawling, i even know, that you single-handedly beat up your guard years ago.
- Geez, i knew, it will come to light soon...
- It doesn't matter, you know what i meant. Don't lose your faith.
Lisy thought about, what her mother said.
- Thanks mum. Uhm... I gotta go back, i have to talk with Anduin.
- Okay, don't forget, what we just talked about.
- No worries.
***
- You released Saurfang... really? - I had to. He knows something, to end Sylvanas’s reign. - Like what? - He didn't tell details. - they were again in the Keep's garden. - By the way, you haven't visited me for awhile. - I just take part in the current campaign. - it was true. But on the other hand, her jealousy made her do it. And what's worse, some whispers make it worse. She even had nightmares, not just once. - I don't want to lose you. Can't you tell me, what's bothering you? - I'm fine, i already told you. - sighs. - I have to go, before i miss the ship. I try to contact you, as soon as i can.
Anduin kissed her gently, as a farewell. But somehow, she didn't want to kiss him back. Without asking, he just let her go. - Be safe... i don't want to lose you.

BLESSINGS OF THE NIGHT WARRIOR
This headcanon post was developed by Mythanil and Feyawen of the <Silver Circle> as a means of explaining how the Night Warrior appearance can be reasonably obtained by night elf players in-game. Should any information be released by Blizzard Entertainment that contradicts the information below, it will be edited to reflect their statements.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Introduction
Elune is the goddess of peace. Her divinity and domains of magic are strongly associated with healing, tolerance, and nurturing life. But she is not a pacifist and will not advocate peace at all costs. One of her aspects is the Night Warrior, the goddess of war. The Mother Moon (peace) and Night Warrior (war) aspects imply to an even greater degree the importance of Balance in life, death; love, hate; peace, war; and the relevance of those cyclical themes in the Elunarian faith and in World of Warcraft stories.
In Tides of Vengeance (Patch 8.1) we learn a little more about the Night Warrior and rituals associated with this aspect of Elune. The Night Warrior aspect of Elune is the incarnation of Elune's wrath and is specifically associated with warfare and honoring the 'valiant dead'. Descriptions of the Night Warrior, or War Aspect of Elune, that we have in lore include the following:
"The Night Warrior takes the valiant among the dead and sets them riding across the sky as stars." Necklace with Elune Pendant
"One of Elune's aspects since ancient times has been the Night Warrior, who is said to take the valiant dead from the battlefield [...]" World of Warcraft Encyclopedia/Elune
"Elune guided Shalasyr's spirit from her remains and allowed her husband, Jarod Shadowsong, to relive all the tender moments of their marriage. Meant to be a private experience between lovers, Elune showed only Jarod and the spirit Shalasyr what she did, even excluding the High Priestess who officiated the funeral." Wolfheart, pg 124
"It would seem that one could expect special power from washing their face in the fountain... Upon opening your eyes, you are able to see the spirits of ancient elves." Quest: Nothing a Couple of Melons Won't Fix
One of Elune's rituals is literally called "Elune's Ritual of War", wherein her followers offer up the weapons of their enemies to the moonwell statue called Elune's Handmaiden: "In ancient time, after battle, the enemies' weapons were to be cast upon the basin in exchange for a divine gift of some sort." Quest: To the Hilt!
"According to ancient legend, this ancient brazier was placed here for the performing of sacrifices. From what little you remember of the stories, a blessing is bestowed upon the being who places the flesh of Elune's enemies on the brazier's burning embers." Quest: Ten Pounds of Flesh
Upon Ysera's death, Elune reached down and cleansed Ysera's body and spirit as well as her relic the Tears of Elune. Ysera's spirit was seen lifted and dispersed in a dragon-shaped constellation. Quest: The Fate of Val'sharah
"Legend says that long ago, Elune bestowed her fury upon our greatest warriors to secure Kalimdor. In a sacred ritual, the strongest among them became her avatar - the Night Warrior. Our victory was swift. None who have attempted the ritual since then have survived. Elune's raw power tears them apart." Quest: In Darkest Night
"In contrast to the previous times that they had met, the novice priestess of Elune-the Mother Moon-wore an outfit more befitting the way of war than the peace of the temple... To Malfurion, she looked more like the priestess of a war god and evidently Tyrande could read such in his expression. With a bit of defensiveness, she admonished him, "You may excel at your new calling, Malfurion, but you seem to have forgotten the elements of Mother Moon! Do you not recall her aspect as the Night Warrior, she who takes the courageous dead from the field and sets them riding across the evening sky as stars for their reward?" The Demon Soul, page 54
"The Sisters of Elune did likewise, their groups poised to aid in whatever way necessary, be it healing or war." The Demon Soul, page 79
"Then, another welcome surprise-chanting came from the center of the advance. The Sisterhood of Elune, resplendent in their battle armor, strengthened the fighters further. Day might have held precedence at the moment, but the priestesses' rhythmic singing literally fed the nocturnal warriors. It was as if the moon herself suddenly hung over the host." The Demon Soul, page 128
"Warriors astride night sabers charged into the battle from all sides, their beasts mauling some of the demons before the latter realized they were under assault. As the newcomers attacked, they sang. Malfurion gaped at them, only belatedly realizing that they were not the soldiers of Jarod Shadowsong. Their armor was more silver and-he looked twice-shaped for more feminine figures. The song he heard was in praise of the Night Warrior, the fearsome battle incarnation of the Mother Moon." The Demon Soul, page 159
Tumblr media
The lore implies that there is only ever one Night Warrior at any given time. The Night Warrior is the vessel of Elune's wrath on Azeroth, the mortal body that holds Elune's power and serves as Her Avatar. After the quest In Darkest Night Tyrande Whisperwind becomes the Night Warrior; which was foreshadowed in the Knaak novel "The Demon Soul" published November 2004. Now that the full powers of the Night Warrior are contained within Tyrande Whisperwind, we can assume that any other kaldorei that receives the "Blessing of the Night Warrior" receives the boon to a lesser degree.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obtaining the Blessings
There are a few different ways to obtain the Blessing of the Night Warrior which last anywhere from 1 hour to 1 year. While the blessing is temporary, it can be renewed by the user at any time - Elune willing.
(1 Hour - A Few Days) Blessing: Divine Endowment
This endowment provides no physical changes to the user but fills them with Elune's divine energy, empowering their bodies for hasty thought and action. This endowment can be achieved by completing one of the following:
Making an offer of enemy flesh (or the ashes of enemy flesh) to Elune at any moonwell or a sacred fire.
Make an offer of enemy weapons at any moonwell or a sacred fire.
Rinsing the face in the waters of a Night Warrior-blessed moonwell at Bashal'Aran.
Chanting or singing to call down the powers of the Night Warrior when marching into battle, or when battling.
(1 Week - 1 Month) Blessing: Warrior's Boon
This boon physically changes the user's skin tone and eye color to the "Night Warrior" customization for a limited time at the user's discretion. This boon can be achieved by completing one of the following:
Make an offer of enemy flesh to Elune at a Night Warrior-blessed moonwell, then sip of the waters.
Make an offering of enemy weapons at a Night Warrior-blessed moonwell, then sip of the waters.
Make a personal offering to prove your willingness to serve as an agent of Elune's wrath, then receive a Priestess's blessing with waters from a Night Warrior-blessed moonwell in Bashal'Aran.
(1 Year) Ritual: Blessing of the Night Warrior This ritual physically changes the user's skin tone and eye color to the "Night Warrior" customization for up to one year, with the ability to renew it with the above ritual during New Moon nights for a near-permanent effect. Unlike the previous blessings, this one requires the completion of an elaborate ritual at a Night Warrior-blessed Moonwell, with an offering of enemy flesh and two personal sacrifices: something earned and a loved one's gift.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What are acceptable flesh offerings? Elune has many enemies. Demons and undead are the greatest affront to nature and are thus worthy sacrifices, but orcs, ogres, goblins, trolls and other enemies of the kaldorei or nature are also permissible. The enemy should be selected and slain by the one who means to complete the ritual. Whether or not they accept help from allies is their own choice, as proof of their tenacity and capability to channel Elune's wrath and execute justice.
Tumblr media
What are acceptable sacrifices? Two personal sacrifices are required for the elaborate Night Warrior ritual. First, something earned or achieved must be relinquished by the one who means to complete the ritual as proof of their devotion and resolve. To complete her own ritual, Tyrande relinquished Elun'tara, Bow of the High Priestess. Comparable examples include one's own emblem, weapon, or relic of station or status; more zealous individuals may scar their Rite of Passage markings. Second, something that had been gifted by a loved one (family or friend) must be relinquished by the one who means to complete the ritual as a dark acknowledgement: to go to war with Elune's darkest face means they must leave behind hearth and home, knowing they may never return. To complete her own ritual, Tyrande abandoned her frostsaber companion of more than 10,000 years, Ash'alah, and she left behind the Lover's Leaf gifted to her by her adoptive daughter, Shandris Feathermoon. Similar examples of this might be relinquishing a token such as a meaningful piece of jewelry, trinket or charm; symbolic sacrifices may also be given such as abandoning a family name in exchange for a new one that honors the Night Warrior aspect of Elune. Those who seek to earn the Warrior's Boon need only offer one sacrifice.
Tumblr media
Stages of the Ritual Typically, a Priestess of Elune presides over the ritual to ensure it is safe and properly executed. The priestess opens the ritual with a chant to call upon Elune's Night Warrior aspect. Then, the offerings are freely given by the one who means to complete the ritual. The ritual then concludes by cleansing the face with, or drinking from, the Night Warrior-blessed moonwell waters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Are there potential drawbacks?
The Night Warrior Ascension ritual, as successfully completed by Tyrande Whisperwind, is the only ritual with a known side effect: death. This occurs when the vessel or body in question cannot sustain the raw power of Elune.
Less extreme side effects can occur at the player's discretion. Below is a list of potential side effects that specifically come from rituals to obtain the Night Warrior cosmetic appearance:
Headaches from sustaining the power of Elune for too long.
Hue distortion. Odd bluish birthmarks that appear on those who have been changed by the ritual before.
Sudden fatigue after losing one of the blessings or boons.
Eye sensitivity to any kind of light, even dim light.
Intermittent fits of anger or frustration.

Night elf headcanons
Repost (with additions) since the last post bit the dust
• Their eyes don't glow per say, but have a luminous eye shine like many nocturnal/crepuscular animals.  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tapetum_lucidum
• Surnames are given according to the sex of the child: daughters get their mother's name and sons get their father's. Only in rare circumstances is this pattern not followed. Spouses don't tend to take one another's name, as pairing tends to be common knowledge, but given modern interactions with other races they've begun sharing surnames (albeit mostly taking on the woman's).
• The Watchers (Wardens) accept membership from all sources, and children of Watchers are automatically admitted. Lineage is tracked but children have little to no direct interaction with their parents. They are given names by a separate member of the organization, with a different surname than that of their mother or father. Membership is for life, regardless of method of entry, and often requires stripping free of all ties from one's former life.
• The Watchers also have a secret, extensive spy network used to keep an eye on the other branches of Kaldorei society and, now, organizations in the Eastern Kingdoms. SI:7 even has members secretly reporting back. In this case, members' old lifes are interfered with as little as possible; spies are not inserted so much as converted.
• Druids have their own exclusive language, used within the Cenarian Circle between races and academically.
• Druids were able to extend their people's blessing of immortality to beast companions, while it was active. With Nordrassil's fall, most animals reverted to their normal lifespans, with very few exceptions (Dori'thur and Ash'alah, for instance). [Most nightsabers blessed in this manner were considered elderly by the time of Warlords of Draenor.]
• Kaldorei birth rates plummeted with the onset of their immortality. Since Nordrassil's fall, the rate has begun to normalize, with a spike in elflets occurring just after.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/R/K_selection_theory
• Women go into heat up to once per year, most commonly once every three, for a full lunar cycle. This was interrupted during their time of immortality, and had a predictable effect on their birthrates (see above), but has since returned with a vengeance and is wreaking no small havoc while everyone tries to readjust.
• Weddings don't typically occur as such, tending moreso toward a simple agreement of commitment between partners. If necessary, a small, very private and formal affirmation by a priestess may be performed. In recent years this has become more common, mirroring other cultures' influence (and being another reason to party).
• Pregnancies and births became much more widely (and festively) celebrated due to their rarity, sometimes lasting the duration of the pregnancy. Babies and young children are still doted upon by entire villages, and outsiders and travellers to this day remain hounded by whole communities of insufferable pseudo parents eager to tell them about their latest treasure.
• Of all the branches, the Sisters of Elune have the most independent wealth and richest resource reserves, with most other Kaldorei factions relying on the priestesses' coffers. Druids have their own stocks and keep separate affairs.
• Moonwell water is a soothing cure-all for many conditions, from injuries to insomnia to infertility, as well as peaceful and pain-free euthanasia. It is also a mechanism for purification: blessing an unholy object and submerging it frees said object from whatever its taint. In recent times this has been extended to interracial marriages, the ritual being performed on the nonelven partner before joining.
• Mated pairs may share unconscious thoughts/sleeping dreams, up to a mild form of telepathy via lucid dreaming. This is rather rare but not unheard of, and trends more toward one or both being of a druidic bend. Proximity may or may not factor in.
 - During the Long Vigil, significant others could often be found in the barrow dens communing (or attempting to) with their loved ones by sleeping next to the druids' bodies, though simply assuaging their loneliness by being close was common enough. It was a sign of an extraordinary bond to be able to cross the realms this way.
 - Moon Priestesses can induce similar connections to soothe the mind of those needing care. This is done via Elune's blessing and their intense strength of will.

my night elf sentinel has a white saber cat named Sin and I got sad realizing that since Mara is a veteran of the War of the Ancients and ~10,000 years old that she would have out lived her by...a whole lot but
“Ash'alah is Tyrande Whisperwind's saber cat. She has been with Tyrande since before the War of the Ancients.“
