not to be blogging like it's may 2022 but like mayday is genuinely, genuinely, genuinely one of the best episodes this show has ever done. the emergency itself is excellent obviously but also. eddie finding his way back to firefighting, showing it's what he's meant to do. chimney almost losing albert the way he lost kevin except this time he gets to save him. may calling bobby her dad after bobby saves her. the moment the whole 118 is finally reunited again after so, so long. carry you playing as eddie finally comes home to his family. nevermind the reveal that jonah might be evil????? that episode truly had it all

i know we've discussed a buck/tommy eventual breakup a la sam and jess in new girl where sam tells her nick was the reason she couldn't marry him, triggering the big old Feelings Realisation(tm) but have we considered tommy having that conversation with eddie instead of buck??!??!?!?! like eddie asks why he and buck broke up and tommy gives him a rueful smile and says, "you know why," and eddie looks confused and is like, "no i don't buck didn't say anything." "eddie. you know." "wh-" "it's you." and BOOM eddie feelings realisation while buck remains oblivious 🫠🫠🫠

Seven Sentence Sunday

started writing about eddie diaz and his relationship with romance/love, had a breakdown, bon appetit 🤷‍♀️

Buck returns from the kitchen with two beers and gets Eddie’s attention by bumping one of the bottles against Eddie’s temple. It’s so gentle all Eddie really feels is the sting of cold before the bottle is offered to him. From anyone else it would probably be a smack upside the head for being so stupid. The thing about him and Buck though – they let each other get away with things. Not in a bad way, he doesn’t think. Just that they sort of wait for each other to figure things out on their own. Quietly observing, ready with the landing mat to catch each other when they inevitably fall. Sometimes they do push, but never too far – just enough for the other to know they’re concerned. He thinks a part of Buck has always been too afraid to push him. The part of Buck that starts with fear of rejection and ends with abandonment issues. Like if he pushes too far then Eddie will slip out of his grasp forever. He doesn’t seem to understand that he’s just about the only person in the entire planet that Eddie always wants to come back to. “You gonna tell me about it?” Buck asks after a beat. He doesn’t drink his beer. Eddie doesn’t either. It’s a crutch, mostly. A pretence, so that if the conversation gets too deep, too fast they can blame it on the alcohol. Eddie appreciates it. As he thinks about Buck’s question he wonders where to start, how to explain it so he doesn’t sound as delusional as he feels. In the end, he can only think of one thing. Swallowing around the lump clogging his throat, he says, “I don’t think I know how to be in love anymore.”

He’s not looking at Buck as he asks the question which might mean something. Or he’s just more concerned with deciding which oranges are the ripest. “Yeah, it was nice,” Buck says as he grabs a pack of apples for himself. “Did you, um, did you do anything in the end?” He still feels a little guilty for blowing Eddie off yesterday. Eddie doesn’t answer right away, silent long enough that it has Buck looking up at him. He’s staring at the grapes display in concentration as if he and Chris could ever be convinced to eat green grapes. “I saw Marisol,” he says finally, selecting the same brand of red grapes he always gets and setting it in the cart. “We sort of…broke up?” “You what?” Buck asks, whipping around so fast he almost sends Eddie’s cart wheeling into the strawberry display. He catches it just in time.

fuck it friday

thank you @sibylsleaves for tagging me!! 💛 i've had a pretty hectic couple of weeks (plus some combined iwtv and the bear brainrot skdafh) so i'm a bit more behind than i wanted to be with part 2 to it's always on the tip of my tongue but i've spent the past 2 hours editing what i have already and writing the next section so we're officially back on track!!!!

Like most of Buck’s problems, he takes it right to Maddie’s door. He shows up at her house on Tuesday night and as soon as she opens the door he blurts out, “I think Eddie’s in love with me.” She gapes at him, mouth working for a response that doesn’t come until Chimney beats her to it. “Eddie’s what?” Maddie claps her mouth shut, stepping aside to let Buck through. Chimney’s on the floor in the living room with Jee playing with her tea set. “You’re not involved in this conversation,” Buck says, pointing at him. “It’s your fault in the first place for even putting the idea in my head.” Maddie apparently finally finds her voice, appearing at Buck’s side and looking between them. “I’m sorry, what? was talking to a friend who hates musicals and had a moment where i suddenly understood why the majority of people who say they hate musicals probably hate them. she was saying how the songs take you out of the story because you're not really listening to the lyrics. and i was just so confused??????????????? because i always listen to the lyrics???? like okay sure i might not pick up on every word or line on a first listen but i'm definitely paying attention to them bc that's the story???????? like telling the story through music is what a musical is????? if you're only listening to the dialogue in between and mentally checking out when a song starts of course you won't like it you're missing 75% of the plot?????????????? and it was just one of those moments where i was like i know we all consume media and literature differently but jfc do we really consume media and literature differently

u and anons are soooo smart, no notes. so let me add something new and say now im thinking about how current ian when he’s having a bad day or simply reminded of the past sorta gets in his head about it. I’m sure ian himself has thought of what would have happened if he didn’t break up with mickey on those stairs, if he didn’t do something that caused his sister to rat on him and causing mickey to take revenge and end up in jail. Of course I think both of them are very good and not dwelling on the past, have worked it out, but sometimes it makes ian sad and he feels guilty, Mickey of course knows the right things to say and when he’s feeling better calls him a idiot cause mickey would do it all a again to end up now they are now :)

i am not so smart anon - you guys just waltz in here with your big brains, and i just nod along and shout YEAH and cry/keysmash. like so:

alskdfhjasldkjfh YEAH mickey would do it all over again! i am sure they'd both make different choices if they could but the whole point is that even with the struggle and the pain and the loss, it's ALL ALWAYS BEEN WORTH IT! they'll always remind each other of that on their harder days 🥺 they are forever worth it to each other! i do not think either of them would begrudge the other for making certain choices back then - they went through so much hell, they don't deserve to torture themselves forever! and now they are so married and so happy and the future will be so so so great 🥰

ok i know allllll about Eddie vs. romance BUT TELL ME ABOUT EDDIE VS ROMANCE BUCKS VERSION???

asdkjfsh i will tell you actually. it's because normally i only work on oNE FIC AT A TIME!!!!! the fact that i have multiple fics on the go at the moment is stressing me out like no tomorrow i s2g who have i become????????????

aNYWAY to your question:

so obviously i've talked ad nauseum about eddie vs romance but the thing is, by the time s7 ended i realised there was so much to Unpack with eddie and not just his relationship with love and romance generally but also with shannon and the whole mess that is the end of the season. so i was debating how i was gonna get to the 'eddie gets his Romance he deserves' part without it feeling like a massive tone shift or being a bajillion words long and well............

i had a Brainwave wherein, instead of making it mulitchapter, i'd make it a series so the two fics could still be read as standalones and i could make the tone a little more fun and upbeat in the part 2 with buck's pov on him wooing eddie (which tbf was always the original intention with this fic way back when i first thought of it like 2 years ago lmao)

so even though i technically haven't started writing it yet bc i need to finish part 1, here's a hint as to where it's going 😇
