I used to volunteer for these guys cooking meals for people seeking asylum. They’re our local Asylum Seeker Resource Centre here in Melbourne and they do amazing work supporting people in Australia seeking asylum by providing food, housing, health and legal services.
With the current cost of living rising they’re running low on funds, and now fighting to keep their doors open. If you can spare some money, now is the time to help out.

Hey, the asrc does good work, the cost of living crisis has tanked donations and they are in a tough spot.
Twenty one years of helping and advocating for asylum seekers when our government has flatly refused to protect their human rights, they can’t keep going without money so if you can please do donate.
I know, no one reading this is likely flush with cash, so there is no need to feel guilty if you can’t help just reblog or share the donation link

On one hand this essay is cursed because I have had to read the Migration Act 1958 and think about our refugee laws and cry a LOT and shake with rage at what my government has done to HUMAN beings who came here needing help.
On the other hand, this essay is excellent because I get to bring up the Fair Work Act 2009, probably my favourite piece of legislation (the consumer act is a close second but a formative political experience was seeing Howard get shafted over work choices).

Whats happening in Nauru
Nauru is the smallest island nation in the world. 80% of the land is inhabitable because of the phosphorus mining in the 80s, the people live on the coastal strip. A lot of the culture has been lost. Now, the country has been taken over by a giant detention center. They force immigrants to do labor work for Australia. (I saw somewhere that the people of Australia didn't want the detention center there and it took 10 years of protesting for there to be a change. There hasn't been anyone held there since about June of 2023)
Another big issue happening in Nauru is that there are people trying to seek asylum, but the Australian government doesn't want them to get to the mainland. A organization that's helping asylum seekers is the ASRC (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre), based in Victoria! It's a great resource to donate to!
Ways to help Nauru:
- spread the word
-donate to supporting organizations
If I got anything wrong, or you want to add something please feel free!

West Liberty University Installs Additional Naxalone Oneboxes
Tumblr media
West Liberty University is increasing accessibility to Naloxone by installing additional ONEboxes on campus. The ONEbox is an emergency opioid reversal and rescue kit designed to promote safety by assuring that individuals have the on-demand training needed to respond to an overdose emergency through bystander intervention. An initial ONEbox was installed outside of Student Health Services in November of 2022 as part of the Be The One Initiative. This initiative was created by the West Virginia Collegiate Recovery Program (WVCRN) and the West Virginia Drug Intervention Institute (WVDII), with the goal of increasing prevention and recovery efforts on West Virginia campuses. “West Liberty University is committed to the safety of our campus community. By increasing the accessibility to naloxone on campus, we are decreasing stigma and reducing the chances of an opioid overdose. The ONEbox contains 2 doses of nasal naloxone, personal protective equipment, and a video that educates and provides training on how to properly respond to an overdose,” said Christy Bennington, RN, who serves as WLU’s Director of Student Health Services. Additional ONEboxes have been installed next to the Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) located in Rogers Hall outside of the cafeteria, the College Union, and the Athletic Sports and Recreation Complex (ASRC). “By increasing the number of ONEboxes on campus, we hope to help our students feel more comfortable, be more knowledgeable, and feel more empowered to support the rest of the campus community.  Just like AED’s, we hope to never have to use it but it’s there just in case.  It is our goal to continue to increase accessibility to naloxone by adding additional ONEboxes in the future across campus,” said Katie Cooper, Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. For more information, please contact Christy Bennington in Student Health Services at 304-336-8049. West Liberty University is West Virginia’s oldest public university, and it offers more than 70 undergraduate majors and 12 graduate programs, both online and on campus. Advertising is a powerful tool that can be used to inform, persuade, and entertain. However, it is important for advertisers to use this power responsibly. Responsible advertising is advertising that is truthful, accurate, and fair. It is advertising that does not exploit or harm consumers.
There are many different aspects to responsible advertising. Some of the most important aspects include:
Tumblr media
Truthfulness: Advertisers should always be truthful in their advertising. This means that they should not make false or misleading claims about their products or services.
Tumblr media
Accuracy: Advertisers should also be accurate in their advertising. This means that they should not exaggerate the benefits of their products or services.
Fairness: Advertisers should be fair in their advertising. This means that they should not discriminate against any group of people.
Non-exploitative: Advertisers should not exploit consumers in their advertising. This means that they should not use fear, guilt, or other manipulative tactics to get people to buy their products or services.
Environmentally friendly: Advertisers should be mindful of the environmental impact of their advertising. This means that they should use sustainable practices and avoid using harmful materials.
There are many benefits to responsible advertising. When advertisers use their power responsibly, they can build trust with consumers. This trust can lead to increased sales and loyalty. Responsible advertising can also help to improve society. For example, it can help to reduce discrimination and promote environmental sustainability.
There are many resources available to help advertisers create responsible advertising. Some of these resources include:
The Advertising Self-Regulatory Council (ASRC)
The World Federation of Advertisers (WFA)
The European Advertising Standards Alliance (EASA)
Advertisers can also learn more about responsible advertising by attending workshops and seminars. There are many organizations that offer these types of training programs.
Responsible advertising is important for both advertisers and consumers. By using their power responsibly, advertisers can build trust with consumers and make a positive impact on society.
Here are some additional tips for creating responsible advertising:
Be aware of your target audience. Tailor your advertising to the needs and interests of your target audience.
Use clear and concise language. Avoid using jargon or technical terms that your target audience may not understand.
Be honest and transparent. Don't make any promises that you can't keep.
Be respectful. Avoid using offensive or discriminatory language or imagery.
Be accountable. Take responsibility for the impact of your advertising.
By following these tips, you can create responsible advertising that is effective and ethical.

Thoughts On Job Search
I am open to all opportunities. I am interested in contracting opportunities. I am also interested in technical expert (specialist) or managerial positions. I am applying for different positions. Usability Researcher. Lead User Experience Researcher. Sr. Manager Consumer Research. And so on. I hope to start a new position soon.
Two positions would work too. One full-time and one part-time position. I do not think I can handle two full-time positions. If I receive offers for two full-time jobs (simultaneously), I will choose just one. It will probably be a difficult decision.
I recall receiving a call about a job in another state when I had just started the job at the Department of Labor (via employment with ASRC). I quickly decided to pass on the second job. That was not a very difficult decision. The timing wasn't right. Timing is important. Sometimes I wonder what the other path - the path I turned down - would have led to. I know that decisions have consequences.
I am hoping for the best -- trusting in Almighty God.
