What songs do you associate with Jca and the Enforcers? Im not sure why, but "A Sadness Runs Through Him" makes me think of Finn when I listen to the lyrics
((I can't seem to stop spoiling my fic before it even comes out))
This is such a great question because I love music so much.
I hadn't heard this song before, I just listened to it and I definitely see what you mean, that's a good song.
I have several playlists for them and my writing, for the most part whenever I hear a song I find one way or another to tie it back to the enforcers, so I have a playlist for songs that have inspired some scenes, a playlist for songs that make me think of Finn and Valmontâs messy relationship (it's not even a headcanon to me anymore, they are bitter exes) and then character mixtapes for Finn, Chow and Ratso, songs I think they'd listen to.
Most songs I listen to apply to a scene or relationship dynamic, but as for character specific songs I think "Gilded Lilies - Sped Up" by Cults, "PINCH ME" by young friend, and "All These Things That I've Done" by The Killers are Finn's SONGS. They belong to him. (All These Things That I've Done makes me cry thinking about him)
Marina belongs to Chow, every song from the Family Jewels album hits so hard for him. "Oh No!" "Are You Satisfied?" "Hermit the Frog" "Seventeen" and "The Family Jewels" all hit so goddamn hard for him and his complicated relationship with his family.
Ratso I have a harder time locking down his emotions because he's the most emotionally stable of any of them and he's got a good family so less opportunities for angst but "Family Lines" by Conan Gray hits so hard on the absent father beat. "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback and "Show Me How To Live" by Audioslave are my go-tos for him
Valmont I still do not know what music this man listens to, if he listens to music at all. He could be one of those people that only listen to audio books (the horror) any songs for him are applied to his relationship with Finn, for which I have "K." by Cigarettes After Sex, "Habits" by Genevieve Stokes, "Step On Me" by The Cardigans, "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" by The Smiths, "using you" by Mars Argo, "Christmas Kids" by Roar, and many others. Cigarettes After Sex has a very gentle vibe that meshes well with the quiet moments V and Finn share on occasion.
Its hard to explain how each song is relevant because they are each important to different parts or dynamics in my fic, my writing is very heavily inspired by and swayed by music, so when I hear a new song it unlocks a new part of the story I hadn't known what to do with yet, discovering new music is an active part of my creative process because of that.
I'll link my playlists below just be aware my writing playlist is a jumbled mess of songs that have inspired at some point or another, whether they are all still relevant is up for debate.
I also have a playlist on my Spotify account for my fic but I'm not going to link it here because it doesn't become relevant until far into my fic (its strange to talk about this fic when I haven't posted any of it yet but I SWEAR I am working on it all the time đ)
#at this rate im going to spoil the entire thing before the first chapter comes out đ

RATE THE EPISODE 534 Responses
WIT kicked off the arc fantastically according to the viewers! This episode got overall positive reviews, with 95% of respondents giving it a 4 or 5 rating.
An ideal opening episode in my opinion!
Incredible start for possible the best season yet â„
Awesome opening episode to set the stage for the arc to come. Pacing was just right, imo.
HYPE MY SOLDIERS
I think it was a great ep and did pretty well with the chapters it adapted. The dialogue was there and so were the scenes, the ending hyped what is coming so much so I'm already in love!
Lack of creavity when it come to the OP and ED visuals, but the ep overall was good.
The soundtrack slaps, voice acting is on point, and the animation proves to be very promising. Overall, it's a great episode to start off the second cour!
Awesome episode with awesome soundtrack.
One of the best episodes of the whole series, which was surprising.
RATE THE OP 533 Responses
Overall respondents liked the new Linked Horizon opening, which was a great summary of the current arc, but overall it fell flat as a song that most would be willing to label as their favorite.
OP depicts the upcoming battle well!
Great adaptation, just wish the opening was a little more original
It is the worst OP of all. The song is disappointing; it sounds like typical, boring song from random shonen series.
The opening definitely had some parts to it that felt recycled from previous openings, but I guess it's just Linked Horizon's way of linking them all together.
SPACE OPERATION RAINBOW!!!
To me it looks like they ran out of time to make an OP so they slapped a green filter on what they had done already.
RATE THE ED 530 Responses
The 104th-centered still-frame ED has some mixed reviews with most of the fandom sitting somewhere in the middle between loving and hating it. Respondents overall are leaning more toward the positive, however.
ED is perfect with the time skip just over the horizon
WE GOT A FEW NEW SAWANO TRACKS. HOW ARE YOU FEELING ABOUT THEM? 530 Responses
Well over half the fandom are already pumped for new music from the seriesâ composer Sawano Hiroyuki! A whopping 76% already feel that heâs killing it. 22% need more time to decide how they feel. A small sliver of respondents donât really care for the OST. Who hurt you?
ost perfect as usual
It was good but at this point everything sounds like it's been reused a bunch of times. Hopefully we get some new great tracks later on..
Hyeh
The bassline in the new rendition of "Attack on Titan" (or however Sawano spells it) is amazing. I cannot wait for the S3 soundtrack to be released.
WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT? 532 Responses
The scene with the Beast Titan appearing with his army of titans took 30% of the vote, with Levi attacking Reiner as a close second with 22% of the vote. 10% overall liked the entire episode, and 7% favorited the cliffhanger staredown. We can all agree the battle to come has us all hyped!
I repeated the scene where Reiner appears until the end of the episode tons of times already
Did they really had to skip Levi's frustrated expression after he failed to kill Reiner? It was my favorite momentâŠ
Levi attacking Reiner and everything after that has become one of my favorite scenes in the series. Damn!
Nice Erwin Screentime, nice Levi nyooming behind Eren
Best girl makes her appearance
the last three minutes of the episode where the warriors show up was fucking amazing
ON SCALE OF ARMIN TO ERWIN, HOW GOOD ARE YOU AT GIVING ORDERS? 526 Responses
The majority of respondents relate to Arminâs timid nature a bit more when it comes to overall confidence in giving orders. Just a small 6.3% of you guys feel you have the charismatic swag that Erwin brings to the table.
I loved Armin giving orders politely.
How was Armin overcoming social anxiety a billion times cooler then eren flying over a 60m wall, becoming a titan and basically saving humanity.
ON A SCALE OF 1-5, HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT TO GO HORSEBACK SURFING? 528 Responses
This was in no way a serious question. But at an almost even split, 35.8% of voters would totally try their hand at horseback surfing, while 35.2% would never risk their life doing such a dangerous activity!
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE ANIMATION QUALITY IN PART TWO SO FAR? 529 Responses
Overall respondents are pleased with the animation in the first episode of the RtS arc, with 54% stating that itâs the best animation theyâve seen from the series yet. 42% feel it could be better, but is also not the worst. A small percentage donât find the animation all that impressive.
I canât believe how clean all of the animation is looking. SUPER impressed with the difference in art-style compared to season 1 as well.
The animation is on the highest level.
i miss the thick lines the show used to have
i really love the colour palette of this season and the op especially.
IMO the color tones on this episode could've been handled better, it was too gloomy on some scenes :(
The animation & art style was almost as good as season 2âs (which is one of my favorite pieces of animation of all time) but still lacked in some areas.
Looks like they went all out with budget on this season and I'm loving it
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE CG COLOSSAL TITAN IN THE OPENING? 532 Responses
57% of respondents arenât too upset about the GCI Colossal Titan in the opening and say they donât mind either way. 35% arenât happy at all with the decision to make the Colossal CGI, while a few actually find the effect super cool.
ON A SCALE OF 1-5, HOW EXCITED ARE YOU TO FINALLY SEE THIS ARC ANIMATED? 533 Responses
The overwhelming majority are extremely excited to see this arc animated after all these years. With its high levels of action and drama, itâs no surprise to us to see that the fandom is looking forward to getting this arc in an animated form!
IVE WAITED MORE THAN 2 YEARS FOR THIS IM NEVER BEEN SO FUCKING HYPED IN MY WHOLE LIFE
I've waited so many years that I'm satisfied and ready to pass now that my favorite arc is being animated
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE ADAPTATION OF RTS SO FAR? 532 Responses
67% of respondents are feeling very satisfied with the way the arc is unraveling in the anime, finding that itâs a very close adaptation of the original source material. 23% feel that itâs still too early to judge the adaptation properly, and a few less feel that the adaptation so far is somewhere between good and bad.
Fantastic adaptation.
Good pacing jumping right into the action, while staying faithful to the manga.
Overall very good, but could be a TAD better
I think the adaptation so far has been great, but I need to see how the action is handled before I say for sure whether it's well adapted or not.
It was ok.
It was very well-adapted! All the important details were there and nothing important seemed to be missing, which was something I was sad about in the last arc. It seems like everything I want will get covered.
How do we come back from there without breaking my heart?
PART 2 IS SLATED FOR 10 EPISODES. DO YOU THINK THIS WILL BE ENOUGH TO ADAPT THE ARC WELL? 531 Responses
Voters are confident that WIT knows what theyâre doing by shortening the amount of episodes that will air for this action-heavy arc, with only ÂŒ of respondents feeling that they havenât given themselves enough screen time to cover every last detail. 10% donât want to say either way.
i was disappointed in knowing it was a 10 episode arc, but seeing the quality and taking into account that this is an action-heavy arc, i'm bouncing off of the walls to see what wit has underneath their sleeve. hopefully they don't ruin the best arc
one advantage of the short season is that they cant draw out the serum bowl for too long. God, that was a painful wait when the manga was dropping those chapters.
Really well done, the pacing in particular was great. After seeing it I was convinced 10 episodes was perfect for this arc. A 6-4 split is perfect.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE VERY SPOILERY OPENING? 532 Responses
61% of respondents agree that the opening, while spoilery, is a great summary and teaser of what is to come for those who only watch the anime. Without context, they canât know what every last symbolic image in the opening means, after all! 23% of voters expressed distaste at how much WIT is spoiling the viewers, however. 9% arenât even concerned about it.
The whole opening was just one big âfuck youâ to people who donât read the manga.
it only becomes obvious b/c manga readers keep pointing stuff out. Yes, the intros have always hinted at things but it goes so fast that I donât think every person will know exactly what something means if theyâre anime only.
The Opening is good representation of this phase of the story ending.
I don't get why people are making a big deal over the "spoilers" in the opening when they're not even anime-onlies themselves in the first place.
Man, it only seems spoilery for those of us who know what's coming. Anime onlies don't understand the context of the images, so they can't recognise them as spoilers unless it's directly identified as such! We gotta stop judging this stuff from the perspective of someone who already knows what's coming.
It's definitely not holding back on the indications that'll happen in the arc
HOW DID THE NEW ED MAKE YOU FEEL? 527 Responses
61% of manga readers felt nostalgic seeing the images of the 104th during their trainee days coupled with a somber song. 20% felt sad about the ending, and 15% were just disappointed with the entire thing.
Lazy ending.
WHAT DID YOU THINK ABOUT THE RED EYES ON THE TITANS? 533 Responses
Just over half of the fandom feel that the red-eyed pure titans was a cool aesthetic to add to show that they are under some form of control by a shifter. 33% feel itâs a cool addition, but not really necessary. 11% donât care.
I was on board with the red eyes until the cart titan also had them. No longer made any sense.
I don't get why Pieck's eyes are red when she's not a mindless being controlled by ZekeâŠ
Like the red eyes but why does Pieck have them too.
WHICH SCENE FROM THE PREVIEW ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO? 530 Responses
Perhaps unsurprisingly, over half of the fandom is most hyped to see the Eren vs. Reiner showdown in Shiganshina. Although not far behind, 28% of respondents are excited about Erwinâs badass unhooding moment as he challenges Reiner.
THUNDER SPEARS FOR NEXT CHAPTER!!!!!!!!!!
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODE?
Even though I totally know what will happen, the episode is written and directed in a way I still get goosebumps and forget I actually know what will happen. And the music, oh god. That's amazing. These two together have a really good effect.
I need the next one RIGHT NOW.
AAAAAHH!!!!
It was an introduction episode, so imo, it's just there to put the basis for the rest of the season. There was a good balance between the "emotionally charged" scenes and the more quiet ones, all this accompanied with an increasing tension in the background.
I wish theyd reanimated the scene of armin talking to eren about the opening instead of just reusing the animation from season 1.
that Zeke smile is like : hey there, i am here to euthanize you all. Love it !
I'm buying tickets into denial islaaand, bye, bye!
Airpipes. AIRPIPES. p.s. cracking soundtrack
Reiner has been enjoying himself some Marley protein, he extra swole now.
Armin was the MVP
PIECK!!!
I don't like the fact that WiT decided to spoil a lot. Some anime onlies already have guessed that Armin is going to be burned and then will become the next CT. So the serumbowl won't be as emotional and exciting for them anymore. I don't understand why WiT decided to do such thing. Don't they want anime-onlies to enjoy the show?
Exactly as expected you'll find a strange titan next to the beasty
I love Mikasaâs improved design and hope they show more of her working in a team like the manga. Focusing on the mission ect without pandering
RIP nameless soldier killed by Reiner.
Very happy to get a glimpse at best girl Pieck
Really no questions about our exactly right girl in this poll ? I am dissapointed :/
Watching this episode is bringing back all the suspense and awe I felt when I read this part in the manga. What a treat to be able to relive it!
They did a great job at keeping the tension and the "well shit everything's about to go wrong" from chapters 73 and 74, and managed to make the explosion at the end worth it, despite the fact I still think Reiner's continued survival throughout the arc is stupid and wish the anime had changed it so it'd be more believable, but here we are.
WHERE DO YOU PRIMARILY DISCUSS THE SERIES? 514 Responses

Dear Father Christmas⊠Chapter 23: December 24, 2038
MASTERPOST
Characters: Â Tentoo; Rose Tyler; Jackie Tyler; Pete Tyler; Tony Tyler; OC Hope Tyler-Noble; OC Charlotte Tyler-Noble; OC Wilfred Tyler-Noble; OC Therin Thomson; Javic Thane; Gray Thane; OC Tianza; the TARDIS; OC Abby Tyler-Milne;

Tags: Family!Fic; Kid!Fic; Peteâs World; Letters to Santa; Christmas Fic; Family; Fluff; Hurt/Comfort; Angst; Romance; Love; gun violence; violence resulting in death; life-threatening injury; life threatening situations; life threatening illness; original characters
Summary: When Rose Tyler was little, she always wrote a Christmas wish list to Father Christmas. As she grew older, the wish list became more of a letter to someone she could confide in once a year, but she fell out of the habit somewhere along the way. Now, as a new mum, celebrating her daughterâs first Christmas, Rose takes up writing her Christmas letter to Father Christmas once again.
Roseâs Christmas letters are excerpts from her life with her beloved Tentoo and their children in Peteâs World, written once a year, for each of 31 years.
Chapter Summary: Jackie decides to make Ugly Christmas Jumpers for everyone in the family.
Notes: Wow! Another chapter that got away from me! LOL And boy, did this one put up a fight.
To my betas, @roseânebula and mrsbertucci: once again, this chapter would not be what it is without you. You gave me inspiration (which I still feel guilty about!) and we had many, many discussions about lots of things to get me through this, including a particularly hilarious discussion about aliens (Iâm dying laughing just thinking about it now⊠I donât know why I find it so funny, I just do!) Just thank-you, both, for always being there when I need you, and putting up with my whinging. I love you both!
Thanks to @doctorroseprompts for their 31 Days of Ficmas prompts. The prompt I used today was Santa and/or Elves.
I know itâs the middle of April, but since the weather outside (here in Ontario) is still frightful, I donât feel too guilty about posting part of my Christmas story. I have eight more chapters to go for the full 31 Days of Ficmas. Iâm not sure if I will post any more through the year, or just write them and post them at Christmastime in December. Iâll see how it goes⊠;D

December 24th, 2038
Dear Father Christmas,
My mum never does anything by halves. When Jackie Tyler sets her mind on something, she doesnât hold back. She gets stuck right in; she takes the bull by the horns and beats it into submission. God help anyone or anything standing in her way. Just ask the DoctorâŠ
(On second thought, best not. He might not take it too well, especially not after⊠well, youâll see.)
Anyroad, ever since we welcomed my little niece, Abby, into our lives last autumn, Mumâs been on a knitting rampage. She taught herself. She started out with little things like baby mitts and booties, but quickly progressed to sweet little cardigans and jumpers. And sheâs gotten really good! My very favourite one was an adorable navy-blue jumper with the words âI LOVE MY DADDIES!â emblazoned across the front in big, pink letters. Tony and Noah (the proud Daddies in question) loved it too, and dressed little Abby in it all the time, until summer came along, and they were forced to admit it was too hot for her to wear it anymore!
This year, sometime around August, Mumâs knitting took a rather⊠erm⊠dangerous turn. Stand aside, Molly Weasley: Jackie Tyler announced she was intending to knit jumpers for all of the Tyler clan, and their significant others, this Christmas.
And not just any jumpers: Ugly Christmas Jumpers.Â
She only told me and Dad, not wanting to spoil the âsurpriseâ for everyone else. Honestly, we just had to grit our teeth and tell her what a âgreat ideaâ it was. It wasnât like it wouldâve made any difference if weâd told her how we really felt. Besides, this way we were likely avoiding the pain of a good hard smack, and months of her patented Jackie Tyler silent-not-silent treatment.
Anyway, it wasnât like sheâd told us about it because she was actually seeking our approval. No, we were to be models, though I rather think guinea-pigs would be a more apt description. Honestly, as Christmas approached, I was seriously beginning to think it would have been better to shut the entire Ugly Jumper Project down in its early stages and endure whatever punishment Mum might have dished out, but at that point, we were in too deep to turn back.
The worst part of the whole process was Mum constantly calling me throughout the autumn to come over to the mansion to try something on, or to bring over jumpers the kids had left behind when they came to visit, so she could compare the sizing with what she was knitting. To be honest it got to be a bit tedious very quickly, but I could hardly say no to her when she was throwing her heart into it. Besides, this way I was able to keep an eye out and nix any design I thought wouldnât go down very well with the intended recipient.
But, the jumpers were, for the most part, not too bad. They were beautifully designed and made. I was honestly quite impressed. Most of them either featured a cute character like a snowman or penguin or something like that, or they were the traditional Fair Isle design, with rows of little repeating Christmas characters and symbols in garish colours. Regardless of the pattern, all of them had some sort of saying on them, like Joy to the World, âTis the Season, or Let It Snow.
âSoooo, which one is mine,â I asked.
âNever you mind, little madam. For your information, I âavenâ started it yet. And even if I âad⊠as if I would spoil the surprise.â
I suddenly had a horrible thought. Cold dread washed over me. âErm⊠what about the DoctorâsâŠ?â Ever since he had revamped her dishwasher to sing Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer seven or eight Christmases ago, Mum had been out for revenge. Not that she would admit it. From the look she gave me, youâd think butter wouldnât melt in her mouth, but I knew better.
âOh, Iâm tryinâ to come up with jusâ the right pattern for âim. Iâve a couple in mind.â
âMuuuuum, donât do anything rash, yeah?â
âOh, honestly Rose, donât be such a stick-in-the-mud. Iâm jusâ tryinâ to create a little Christmas cheer.â
âOi! Iâm the one stuck in the middle of you and the Doctor and your flippinâ Christmas cheer. Me and Dad!â
She ignored me, of course, and did a complete about-face on the topic. âOh, speakinâ of your Dad⊠I got his jumper finished. What dâya think?â She held up a dark green jumper, with a comical Santa body on it. The pattern stopped at the collar, so Dadâs head would be taking the place of Santaâs head (your head, Santa!) The words Ho Ho Ho were knitted in bold yellow letters below Santaâs feet. âIâll get âim to wear a Father Christmas âat and all!â
I had to laugh. âGood luck with that!â
ââEâll do it if âe knows wâatâs good for âim!â
âThatâll make for more of your Christmas cheer, thenâŠâ
âOh, donât ya worry; Iâll make it worth âis while.â Â She winked at me. âThereâll be plenty of Christmas cheer and bells a jinglinâ around âere.â
âMum! TMI!â
âSince when âave you been such a prude? I mean, jusâ look at the way you and âimself carry on.â
âYeah, but there are certain things I really, really do not need to know. And that, right there: that tops the list! Look, I gotta run. Dadâs asked me to give a presentation this afternoon.â
âOh, well, I suppose⊠Oh, Rose, wait a moâ. I meant to ask: Charlie, is she seeinâ someone regular these days? Will she be bringinâ a date for Christmas Eve? Iâll need to make âim or âer a jumper too, yeah, whoever they are.â
âI dunno, Mum. I never know with that one these days. I worry⊠a lot.â
âSheâll be all right, sweetheart. Itâs jusâ a phase. âSides, sheâs nearly twenty years old. I donât need to remind ya wâat you were up to at âer age⊠gallivantinâ around with that bleedinâ alien. Not that you cared a fig about my worries!â
âMumâŠâ
âSheâs jusâ like you in so many ways, so bloody-minded.â
âThat isnât helping, Mum! I jusâ hope youâre right⊠about it being a phase. Anyway, Iâll let you know as soon as I hear anything definite about her bringing a date.â
âAnâ in the meantime, Iâll knit an extra generic sort of jumper, jusâ in case.â Mum must have noticed I was about to protest, because she cut me off before Iâd even had a chance to open my mouth. âNah, donât worry; Lorâ knows, itâs no trouble. After all, Therin might still decide to bring someone, too, and Iâll need one for âer. Best to be prepared.â
âAll right. Suit yourself. See ya soon. Love ya.â I kissed her on the cheek and headed out the door, the problem of Charlie weighing heavily on my mind.
--ooOoo--
That night as I was standing at the stove making supper, the Doctor came up and wrapped his arms around me from behind. He gave me a lovely kiss behind the ear. It was just what Iâd needed. Iâd been wound up all day.
âPenny for âem? Youâve been doing (might I say) a piss poor job of shielding your emotions.â
âThat obvious, was it?â
âYup.â He squeezed me tighter and gave me another tender little kiss. Even without our telepathic bond, I expect he would have figured out something was wrong. And I really had been sloppy about keeping my worry contained. To be honest, Iâd been hoping heâd notice. âYou could have just told me if something was bothering you.â
I leaned my head back against his shoulder, giving the sauce another stir. âI know. Youâve just been so stressed lately.â
The Doctor had been called in to help with seventeen frightened and violent Trumhurgi whose ship had crashed in Torquay. They were badly injured, and the Doctor was the only one who had any decent knowledge about their unusual physiology. It had been two months of providing medical care for them, sometimes round-the-clock for several days running. Heâd been training Torchwood physicians and nurses as well, but it all took time. In addition, heâd been consulting about repairs on the Trumhurgi ship, and travelling back and forth in the TARDIS, obtaining spare parts and contacting worried family members, carrying their messages and even bringing them back to Earth to visit their recuperating relatives.
Iâd been working on the case too, but I was helping out the traumatized humans whoâd been caught up in the original crash and the violent, defensive outburst that had followed. Shots had been fired and, by some stroke of luck, there had been no deaths, but it had been a close call. Fortunately, I had a huge, experienced team at my command, so my end of the job had been a lot easier than the Doctorâs.
âIâm all right, love,â the Doctor assured me, as we dished up our supper and sat down at the table. It was the first time in weeks weâd actually been able to eat together. âBesides, by end of this week the last of the Trumhurgi go home in their very own, working-better-than-ever ship! Letâs have tonight be about us.â
âYeah?â
âYes. Now spill. Whatâs got you so upset?â
âItâs Charlie. Iâm worried. I didnât tell you about it because⊠well, the Trumhurgi⊠but Javic dropped by shortly after all that happened⊠with news.â The Doctorâs eyes darkened, and his lips tightened reflexively, but he waited for me to continue. âIt seems Charlie has been taking a page out of Javicâs book, recently. Sheâs been, erm⊠letâs just say âembracing her sexualityâ⊠a lot!â
âAnd he knows this how?â
âWell he ran into her at one of his favourite⊠spots.â
I sensed the Doctorâs anger flare, white hot. âHe didnât touchââ
âGod, no! In fact, heâs sort of taken her under his wing, so to speak. Made sure sheâs stayed away from all the dangerous places.â
The Doctor growled. He looked like he was fighting really hard to keep his emotions in check. His eyes flashed at me. It had been a long time since Iâd been a target for the Oncoming Storm. It was properly frightening (and more than a bit thrilling!) âAnd you⊠you never thought to tell me? This? About our daughter?â
âYou were so busy. And itâs not likeââ
He launched himself out of his chair with a roar. âYou kept this from me?â
Reflexively, I shrank back into my seat, like some timid little creature. âIâm sorry.â
He began to pace, tugging at his hair. Each time he passed me, he opened his mouth, but the words wouldnât come out. His mental shields were locked in place and impenetrable.
After five long minutes, I decided enough was enough. It wasnât my habit to let him intimidate me and I wasnât about to chicken out now; history told me, it was far better to confront him, not let him get away with his bullying behaviour. âDoctor, stop! Enough. Sit down so we can talk.â
âOh, so now you want to talk to me!â
âThatâs was the point of having this conversation, yeah? Sit!â
He did as I asked, shoving his plate away from him, across the table. I grabbed onto his hand before he could move it, pouring my love through our bond. I was gratified when his shields began to give; it was only a little, but it was a beginning.
âAny other information you want to impart?â he bit out.
âWell⊠apparently she has one of Wilfredâs Vortex Manipulators, so⊠erm⊠sheâs dancing through time and space.â
âBloody hell!â He moved to stand again, but I held firm to his hand. He glared daggers at me. âLet go! We have toââ
âHave to what, Doctor? What do you propose we do? Youâre not going to go storming in there like the Great Exterminator!â
âTry me!â
âThis is Charlie⊠intimidation has never worked on that kid, and itâs not about to this time, either. We need to be rational and calm and supportive.â
âSupportive! But sheâsââ
âI know. And Javic has been keeping an eye on her. Heâs making sure she checks in with him, and he assures me sheâs doing⊠fine.â
âSomehow, I donât imagine Javicâs definition of âfineâ is quite the same as ours.â
I had to admit (but only to myself) Iâd been thinking much the same way, though I knew Javic: heâd go to the ends of creation to protect any of us. âHopeâs been keeping in touch with her too,â I offered, hoping to appease the Doctor.
âWell that, that is a bloody recipe for disaster!â His anger flared.
Again, I had to agree with him, Santa. For all that she means well, Hope tends to get a bit bossy with her younger siblings. Sheâs mellowed over the years, but still⊠My arguments were crumbling around me. âYouâre right. Letâs go!â
âWhat?â
âLetâs go⊠TARDIS. You. Me. Chat with our daughter.â
âBut I thought you said...?â
âChanged my mind.â
--ooOoo--
Charlie, it turns out, was not thrilled to see us. I hadnât been expecting a joyous family reunion or anything, but I think it would have gone a lot better if the Doctor hadnât barged up to the bar where she was cheerfully chatting up some green-skinned bloke, waving his psychic paper around like some crazed maniac and bellowing to said bloke that Charlie was under-aged (an outright lie⊠on that planet) and if he didnât want to find himself in a whole heap of trouble heâd better scram. Heâd then grabbed Charlie by the arm and hauled her out of the building and into the TARDIS.
To say Charlie was furious was the understatement of the year! She was ranting on about how it was bad enough her âpuritanicalâ sister was on her case, but the fact that we were now interfering in her life as well incensed her to no end. Â She only finally calmed after I ordered the Doctor out of the TARDIS. I would deal with him later.
In the end, there was very little I could actually do other than let Charlie know weâd both be there for her if she ever needed us. She assured me she was fine: having fun; being careful; and not doing anything too wild (and âbloody hell, Mum, I canât believe Iâm even having this conversation with you⊠itâs just wrongâŠâ.) I tried to understand, but I just couldnât put myself in that mindset, and I told her as much.
âItâs just such a relief to be able to have fun and feel good without any obligations. I have so many obligations, Mum. School, Hand in Hand, work... This makes me feel, well free.â
Oh, Santa, it was then I realized how much that little girl (young woman) had taken on in her young life.
She must have seen the look of horror on my face. She grabbed my hand, and our familial bond snapped into place. She read me like an open book. âMum, donât you dare feel guilty. You never, ever pressured me, any of us, to do anything we didnât want. You encouraged us in the best way possible, you⊠and Dad.â She chuckled and rolled her eyes at the mention of her father.  âThis is just my way of letting go a bit, taking time for me. Can you understand that?â
âCourse I can, love. I worry, thatâs all. Promise me youâll keep in touch, yeah?â
âYeahâŠâ
âAnd listen to Javic.â
âMuuuuum! I know!â
âNow, since we spoiled your evening with that young man, how about we take you out to supper, yeah?â
âThat sounds great! And donât worry too much about my evening. He was a bit of a tosser, anyway. I was just about to walk out when Dad came barging in like some daft Onidsessi on pep pills. Urrrgh,â she groaned, âpromise youâll never let Dad near pep pills. Can you imagineâŠ?â
âOh, god, your Dad⊠heâs out there⊠Not on pep pills, but you know as well as me, heâs quite capable of stirring up all kinds of trouble without them if he gets a bit bored.â
Thankfully the Doctor hadnât been stirring up trouble. We found him, pacing back and forth in front of the TARDIS doors. Charlie skipped right over to him, stopping him in his tracks and planting a kiss on his cheek. I couldnât help but smile. We might all drive one another completely mental sometimes, but there was no lack of love in our little family, and this incident had assured me our children always knew we would be a safe haven for them whenever they needed it.
With all our emotions running high, I never remembered to ask Charlie if she was bringing home a friend at Christmas, so Mum could plan an appropriate jumper. At this point, though, I didnât imagine there would be anyone special, given that she seemed to be determined to stay away from serious relationships for the time being.
I couldnât have been more wrongâŠ
Santa, I need to run. Weâre all at Mumâs tonight, and the jumpers have finally been unveiled. There were a few⊠complications. And Iâm running interference! Iâll try to explain later.
Blimey! There goes the Doctor, now, and he looks far too happy for anyoneâs good, especially considering⊠ Look, Santa, I gotta go! Iâll finish this letter up later.
--ooOoo--
Santa, Iâm back, but Iâm not sure where the hell Iâm going to begin. A lot of stuff went down tonight. A lot of stuff.
Mum was just itching to hand out her Ugly Jumper parcels to everyone; I couldnât get her to sit still, she was so excited. We were still waiting for Charlie to arrive and for Tony, Noah, and Abby, too. The Doctor had gone to collect Charlie in the TARDIS. Mum was bouncing off the walls.
Thank goodness my brother and his family decided to show up just after the Doctor left. Entertaining Abby was keeping Mum rather brilliantly distracted, and it meant I didnât need to entertain Mum. As it turned out, it was just as well Mum was preoccupied, because it gave her time to ease into meeting Charlieâs plus-one which turned out to be a bit of a shock for her, just not for the immediately obvious reasonâŠ
The lovely, familiar sound of the TARDIS filled the room about fifteen minutes after Tony arrived. She landed in her customary corner of Mumâs living room, wearing her traditional Blue Box disguise, but topped with festive snow and icicles, and a colourful wreath on her door. The door opened, and the Doctor stepped out, meeting my gaze with raised eyebrows and a little prickle of warning through our bond. He was being very guarded, not sharing any specific thoughts or images, and that made me distinctly uneasy.
Charlie followed him and was tugging behind her what could only be her date for the evening. The creature seemed to unfold itself from the TARDIS. It was very tall and rail thin. Charlie was holding onto one of its appendages, a hand of sorts, at the end of one of its four upper limbs, formed from an assortment of tentacle-like structures. âCâmon Hrau-Ard,â Charlie coaxed. âYouâre gonna love my family! Hell, you and Dad are already like best mates!â
âPossibly a bit of an exaggeration seeing as we only met six minutes ago,â the Doctor countered, allowing Charlie and Hrau-Ard to step in front of him, âbut he seems like a fine chap, I have to say.â
It took me a moment to get over my shock. Now, let me be clear, Santa, I have no trouble with interspecies relationships⊠I mean look at my darling husband, not exactly human for all he looks it. Itâs just that Charlie, for all her sexual experimentation has never strayed far from standard humanoid partners before... at least according to Javicâs accounts. Thatâs why I needed to collect my thoughts before I moved forward to greet our new guest.
âHello,â I smiled up into the creatureâs majestic face. And majestic it was, by any standards⊠beautiful. Trust Charlie to pick a gorgeous date! A long muzzle, with an expressive mouth on the end, swooped up into a spectacular curved crest above itâs head. The crest had two main parts, a longer one below and a shorter part above. Its face morphed gradually from a rich teal colour at the muzzle to a deep indigo at the tips of the crests and was edged with many sensory tentacles and filaments. Two large purple eyes bulged above the snout, and several secondary eyes protruded from either side of the crests, set on stalks which were each adorned with several metallic rings. âIâm Rose Tyler, Charlieâs mum.â I held my hands out, spread open before me in the universal sign of peaceful greeting.
The creature bowed its head to me and dropping Charlieâs hand, held all four of itâs tentacle-tipped upper limbs out, mirroring me. Its fluting voice emanated from the crests. âChristmas greetings to you, Rose Tyler. My name is Hrau-Ard. It is lovely to meet you.â
âHeâs male⊠mostly,â Charlie informed me, âso itâs okay to use âheâ and âhimâ.â
Hrau-Ard piped in, bowing his head to me again, âThose pronouns seem to be the most accurate.â
Before I could respond to Hrau-Ard, Charlie impatiently snagged the hand sheâd been holding earlier and tugged him past me. âWell, come on in and meet the rest of the family!â
He hooted in surprise, his long tan-coloured tunic billowing and brushing me as he passed. It dropped halfway down his two legs and contrasted spectacularly with the blues and greens of his skin and had an opening in the back through which a pair of wing-like appendages extended. They were bright turquoise and filmy (too delicate to be proper wings) and vibrated as he moved.
I admit, I couldnât suppress a chuckle at Mumâs incredulous expression as she met him. She passed Abby back to Noah, and looked Hrau-Ard up and down, offering him all the appropriate greetings. She had come a long way since her âbog-monsterâ days on the Estate and was extremely well-versed in alien diplomacy. After all, sheâd welcomed plenty into her home over the years. But, despite all her training and experience, she was still my mum, and I nearly choked when she repeated his name back for clarification: âHoward? Your name is Howard?â
With a low whistle of approval and if the TARDIS was translating properly, amusement, Hrau-Ard inclined his head, his facial filaments bobbing with the movement. âI enjoy the way you say my name, Charlieâs Gran.â
âOh, just call me Jackie, please. Howard! Of all the names!â
âIs this name of significance to you?â
Mum glanced nervously over to Pete, who was busy grilling Wilfred and Tianza about the medicinal properties of a Gallifreyan plant he was interested in using in a new Vitex drink. Â âOh, âeâs jusâ an old mate of mine.â
âFine fellow! Liked fruit!â the Doctor enthused from the TARDIS door with a broad, toothy grin. âI borrowed his pyjamas and dressing gown once!â
âWell then,â Hrau-Ard bleeped, âI am honoured to be his namesake.â
âOh, off the two of you go then.â Mum shooed Charlie and âHowardâ off to meet Tony, Noah, and Abby. She fixed a glare at the Doctor, who had stepped up behind me. âSee, there, Time Lump! A proper alien, tentacles and all! âE at least âas the decency to look the part.â
âSo sorry to disappoint you with my lack of appendages, Jackie (after all, I live my life just to please you),â he snarked back at her. âFortunately, as it turns out, thereâs one Tyler who is rather fond of my one, rather impressive appendage, just the way it is.â
âAll right, you two,â I cut off Mum before she had a chance to bite back, âitâs Christmastime, yeah? Peace on Earth. See, the halls are all decked,â I gestured around me, âmerry and bright. Letâs try to enjoy ourselves.â
âOoooh, Iâd like to deck âis halls, all rightâŠâ Mum grumbled.
The Doctor leaned out around me to shoot another barb at Mum. âIs that your resting Grinch face, Jackie, or are you just happy to see me?â
Mum lunged at him, slapping-hand poised and ready. Fortunately for the Doctor, I was still in between the two of them. âStop!â
âCuddly as a cactus; charming as an eel⊠Mrs. Griii-inchâ the Doctor sing-songed.
âSTOP!â My shout silenced the room, everyone turning to stare at me.
âOh, donât mind them,â Charlie cooed at Hrau-Ard, âthatâs sorta their normal behaviour.â
âLook what you two made me do,â I hissed at Mum and the Doctor. âBe civil! Honestly!â Fed up, I made to leave the two of them and go to the kitchen to pour myself a well-earned glass of wine, when Mum caught me by the sleeve.
âBlimey, Rose!â she whispered at me. âThat Howard fella âas wings!â
âYeah, well spotted! And tentacles!â
âNo, no, no! The wings! âEâll never fit into any of my jumpers! Never! And âeâs so bleedinâ skinny and all. (Blimey, âe makes the Doctor look like a sumo wrestler, âe does!) The jumper I made would beâŠâ
âMum, you donât need to worry. Heâll understand, Iâm sure.â
She burst into tears. âBut I wanted everyone to âave⊠and now âeâll be without something from me⊠Anâ itâs ChristmasâŠâ
The Doctor stepped up, concerned. He put a gentle hand on Mumâs shoulder. âWhatâs wrong? If itâs what I said, Jackie⊠you know I was just taking the mick.â
âNo, no, no⊠nothinâ like that, ya plum.â She patted his cheek and gave him a watery smile. âIâm jusâ disappointed is all.â She excused herself and rushed off in the direction of the powder room.
âWhat was all that about?â
âPromise you wonât tell her I told you?â
âOh, you know I can keep a secret, Rose! Besides, I know better than to cross Jackie Tyler by leaking sensitive information. Câmon, give.â
I explained to him about Mumâs dilemma, how she had knitted ugly Christmas jumpers for everyone (his face blanched, probably imagining what she might have created for him) and now because of Hrau-Ardâs unexpected physical attributes, none of the jumpers she had set aside would ever possibly fit.
âWell, I could help,â he suggested. âSheâs probably not going to like it much, and I canât say Iâm much of a fan of it myself, but I have an idea that just might work⊠if sheâs willing.â
--ooOoo--
Everyone was so busy with canapes and punch and cocktails they never noticed Mum and the Doctor bundling into the TARDIS and the TARDIS dematerializing. The TARDIS was proud to be showing off her new âSilent Modeâ: there was only a little bit of a breeze to indicate she had ever been there. (My little darling.)
They had only been gone for about ten minutes before the TARDIS rematerialized and Mum burst through the doors, beaming and carrying a neatly wrapped parcel: Hrau-Ardâs gift. To my utter amazement, she turned back to stroke the TARDISâ doorframe, planting a soft kiss on the blue wood. âThank-you, sweetheart. Youâre a wonder, you are.â
The TARDIS hummed in response, a wonderfully joyous sound, as Mum practically skipped over to the Christmas tree to tuck the present underneath.
The Doctor stepped up beside me, closing the TARDIS doors behind him. âThey hit it off like a house on fire,â he told me, âthe pair of them, thick as thieves. Turns out when your Mum was ill a few years ago, and I put her in stasis, the TARDIS kept her company in her mind; they became fast friends. Brilliant!â He grinned down at me, wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me against him as we followed Mum to the tree. Then he paused, and I glanced up at him to ask why we had stopped. The grin melted from his face. âAlthough⊠I donât much like the idea of the two of them plotting against me behind my back.â
I just laughed and put my head on his shoulder. âBlimey⊠youâre getting a bit paranoid! How long were you gone in your timestream?â
âFive and a half days, Rose. Five and a half days⊠with Jackie Tyler on my TARDIS! Thatâs enough to make anyone paranoid!â
I admit, Santa, I shamelessly started to laugh harder. âHow did you ever survive?â
âAfter the first day, I learned pretty quick to keep my head down. I made myself scarce.â
âOh, youâll be all right.â I nudged him with my elbow. âThey wonât plot against youâŠâ (âŠmuch, I added silently.)
âI heard that!â He arched an irritable eyebrow at me. âDo you realize sheâs got her own room, Rose? No, not room, suite! The TARDIS gave her an entire suite of rooms with her own telly and a little galley too!â
âAwww, thatâs lovely.â I was warmed through that the TARDIS had welcomed Mum so enthusiastically. My darling husband, however, was another matter. âDonât worry, Doctor, Iâll protect you from any plotting. Câmon, we better hurry. I donât think Mum will be able to contain herself much longer.â
Mum was gathering everyone together, so she could hand out her creations, and getting a bit shirty at people who werenât paying attention, so I dragged the Doctor over by the hand and found a comfortable seat for us.
Content that everyone was present and listening to her, Mum spoke: âIâve decided to start a new Tyler-family tradition: Ugly Christmas Jumpers! Made by yours truly.â She preened and there was a round of groans from the family and a perplexed hoot from Hrau-Ard. âOi! Theyâre not really ugly⊠thatâs jusâ wâat theyâre called, yeah. See Iâm wearinâ one.â She stood up to show off the jumper she was wearing. It was made of soft, silvery yarn and she had sewn tinsel across the front to form the words âDonât get your tinsel in a twist,â in cursive script. Of course, she also had tinsel tied around her up-do. She looked sparkly and lovely. My Mum⊠Sheâs been through so much in her life, experienced so many odd things, and taken it all in stride; things that would make most people go completely loopy. I love her so much. I was positively chuffed to see her so happy, handing out brightly coloured parcels to all our family.
Dad was the first one to get his present, and he was a real sport about it, donning both his new Santa jumper and the Santa hat Mum had included in his parcel. Everyone burst out laughing when he stood up and smoothed his jumper down over his tummy, and said: âDo you think this makes me look fat? Ho-ho-ho!â
âOh, sit down, you!â Mum admonished, but I could tell she was pleased as punch.
After that there was great excitement as we all opened our packages. Abbyâs jumper was the cutest little thing, with an adorable gingerbread man wearing a Santa hat on a bright, red background. There were miniature gingerbread men down the sleeves and a few white strategically-placed snowflakes. I figure itâll be a new favourite piece of clothing for her doting daddies!
Javicâs jumper featured a grumpy Santa reading his list of childrenâs names. The words âIâm at the top of Santaâs naughty list,â were emblazoned underneath. He was ecstatic, claiming it couldnât have been more perfect. My jumper was⊠well, glorious in itâs tackiness! And I loved it! Oh, Santa, it was TARDIS blue, and a string of knitted fairy lights trailed all over it. In the middle, the fairy lights formed the words âMerry and Brightâ and were lit up with little LEDs. Mum had outdone herself.
Hrau-Ard seemed uncertain what to do with his package, but Charlie soon sorted him out, helping him unwrap the gift. He held the jumper up in front of him, looking around at everyone else trying theirs on. He peered at the design on the front, all of his eyes trained on the bright patterns, and gave a long low hoot.
âWell, are ya goinâ to put it on, then?â Charlie prompted. âHere, Iâll help ya!â Together, the two of them made short work of slipping off Hrau-Ardâs tan tunic and replacing it with the jumper.
Hrau-Ard stood up out of his chair to show his jumper off. It was long, like the undertunic he wore, dropping to mid-thigh, and had perfectly aligned spaces for all four of his upper limbs and his wings.
âThe TARDIS helped Jackie with the proper design and style, so it was compatible with his cultural expectations and with his body configuration,â the Doctor murmured in my ear. âShe even provided all the yarn, if you can believe that!â
I took a closer look at the jumper. It featured an green-clad elf body on a scarlet background. Like Dadâs jumper, Hrau-Ardâs head took the place of the elfâs head. The words underneath said: âTake an âelfie with me!â It was hilarious! We were all in stitches, especially Hrau-Ard, who particularly appreciated the pun in the wording, and was honking with joy, and pulling out his mobile to take âelfies with everyone.
I couldnât help but notice Therin was the only one not laughing. He wasnât even smiling. He sat on the other side of the room glowering at Charlie and Hrau-Ard and their easy familiarity. Clearly, he hadnât gotten over Charlie. He still loved her, despite her obvious disinterest in him⊠at least as a romantic partner. My heart absolutely ached for him as he quietly trudged out of the room, wearing his Fair Isle T-rex jumper.
âI should go check on him,â I whispered to the Doctor. Â
âNah, he needs to work this out for himself, love. He canât change whatâs in his heart. He just needs time to come to terms with it.â
âI hate to see him so miserable though⊠I wish I couldââ
âOi!â Mumâs shriek of disapproval cut through my thoughts. âWhereâs your jumper, then, Doctor?â
The Doctor shifted nervously next to me, and I felt his crushing fear in my mind. He picked at the wrapping paper on the package in his lap. Â
âCâmon then, ya big baby! Open it up! I made it special, jusâ for you.â
âThat⊠thatâs what worries me,â he muttered under his breath.
âHere, Iâll help you,â I offered. Honestly, Santa, Mum was right. He was being a big baby about it. Coward every time. âBest get it over with, like ripping a plaster off.â
âI donât like plasters, and I donât like the sound of your mum saying, âspecial just for youâ. That, right there, Rose, sends my entire brain into mauve status!â
âCâmon, how bad can it be?â Even as I said the words, I glanced over at Mum who was watching the Doctor with a piercing, self-satisfied eye, and I braced myself. âNever mind. Just get it over with, yeah.â
By this time, we had the attention of the whole room, and the Doctor in a less-than-convincing act of enthusiasm, tore away the wrapping paper in one fell swoop. He reached into the shredded paper and pulled out the jumper, holding it up gingerly. Santa, I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. I swear the tears were pouring down my face, and the Doctor was scowling at me.
I better explain. The torso and most of the arms of the jumper were mostly brown. Around the cuffs of the arms, and at certain places over the shoulders were knitted green leaves. Some of them also trailed over the torso and back. When we lifted the arms of the jumper, we found dangling from their undersides none other than beautifully crafted, little knit pears! Pears, Santa, which as Iâm sure you know are the fruit the Doctor despises most in the universe⊠for reasons that have never been very clear to me.
The crowning glory was the gigantic bird sewn firmly to the left shoulder: a partridge.
Mum had given the Doctor a Partridge in a Pear Tree-themed jumper!
Strangely, the bird was not knitted but a small-scale but realistic model, complete with feathers⊠and that gave me pause for thought, and trust me when I say the thoughts were not optimistic for the DoctorâŠ
âWell, wâat are you waitinâ for?â Mum barked. âPut it on, then?â
âWhat? You expect me to wear this travesty⊠this⊠this pitiable excuse for clothing? Nope. Nope. Nope. Not happening.â
âOh, just put it on, Dad!â Hope cajoled from across the room. âWeâre all wearing them.â
âYours donât have pears and a great bloody bird attached, do they?â
âThe jumpers are splendid!â Hrau-Ard spoke up with an earnest honk. âThis is the most comfortable piece of clothing I have ever owned. And it is humorous too. Doctor, you really should try yours.â
Mum just about melted on the spot at Hrau-Ardâs compliment. âOh, Howard! Youâre such a love. But, youâre just sayinâ that!â
âNo, I am sincere, Jackie. It is perfect. I think I like Christmas. And Ugly Christmas Jumpers!â
âWell then, sweetheart, Iâll make you another for next year, yeah?
Howard⊠I mean Hrau-Ard hooted happily in response, and Mum turned her attention back to the Doctor, by which I mean, she glared daggers at him.
âOh, all right,â the Doctor conceded, ââŠif it means I donât have to listen to any more of your harping,â he added under his breath. He stalked off to the downstairs loo, crushing the jumper in his clenched fist.
âI better go help him outâŠâ I made my excuses and rushed off after him.
I heard Wilfred snickering to Hope, Gray, and Tianza, as I passed them. âTen quid says theyâre off for a snog⊠or worse.â
Hope just laughed. âNo deal, little brother! Thatâs a sure thing.â
âOi!â (Iâm sorry, I had to protest!) âEnough out of you lot!â
âCâmon, Mum, face it,â Charlie interjected, âyou two are an embarrassment.â
âYeah,â Wilfred agreed, âIâve lost count of the number of times weâve had to spring the two of you from prison for public indecency.â
âOi, whatâs this then?â Mum leaned in for more tidbits of information, and I cleared out of the room as fast as I could.
Exasperated, I knocked on the powder room door. âDoctor, itâs just me.â
He opened the door to let me in.
âBlimey, weâll have to watch ourselves. That lot are making wagers on whether or not we shag in here, and theyâre telling Mum all about our arrestsâŠâ
He groaned, sniffing in disdain. âBloody brilliant! Christmas, an annual excuse for almost completely unfounded gossip and rumour.â
âExactly!â
âAnd then thereâs thisâŠâ He held up the jumper. âI donât know why I have to put on this preposterous get-up?â
âBecause as I recall, a few years back, you mucked about with Mumâs dishwasher. Now itâs payback time,â I reminded him. âCâmon thenâŠâ I helped him pull off the (sexy) red jumper he was currently wearing, and I couldnât resist running my fingers through the sparse hair on his chest. âTell you what, though: if youâre a good boy and put the jumper on, I will make it very much worth your whileâŠâ
âOh, yes!â
I dropped to my knees in front of him.
âWhat? Right now?â
âIâll make it quick⊠I know all your secrets.â
He growled at me, his eyes darkening. âIâll be wanting another round later tonight, Tyler.â
âYou think so, do ya?â
âOf course, Iâll be happy to return the favour. Iâll make you come so hard, your screams will be heard all the way to Gallifrey and back! Think youâre up for that?â
I gazed up at him with what I hoped was a seductive smile and stroked him where he was now straining against the front of his trousers. âYouâre on! But the real question is, can you manage not to scream? We donât really need that lot making any more wagers at our expense.â
--ooOoo--
Sorry Santa, got off on a bit of a tangent there⊠It happens sometimes, as youâre well aware.
So⊠where was I? Oh, yeah, so fifteen minutes later, we came out of the loo. With my help (holding the partridge), we managed to get the jumper over the Doctorâs head. He looked very, very, extremely not happy, despite my recent⊠erm⊠display of affection. âI feel ridiculous!â he gritted out to me.
âItâs just for a few hours, love.â I patted his arm and took his hand for moral support and made bloody sure to conceal my amusement from him.
As we returned to the living room, out the corner of my eye, I was pretty certain I saw some money changing hands, although, to his credit, the Doctor had kept very quiet and I had checked that my hair and make-up were in order. Maybe they were wagering on whether heâd be wearing the jumper⊠Who knows?
Anyway, I had to agree with the Doctorâs assessment: the jumper did look more than a bit silly, but everyone cheered and laughed at it. Â They were having so much fun over it, and the Doctor ended up being a good sport, showing it off, spreading his arms and making silly faces about the âvileâ pears dangling from them.
I admit, I kept to myself the fact that I thought there had to be more to it than just a jumper with pears and a big, daft bird. Mum had waited years to get her revenge. She wasnât about to let him off with something so⊠simple. I could only wonder what she had planned and when it would happen.
As it turned out, I didnât have to wonder very long.
It was only a few minutes later when Mum called us all over for supper. She, of course, had place-cards at every setting. The Doctor was sat between Hrau-Ard and Gray, somewhere in the middle of one long side of the table, and Mum and I were directly across from them. Charlie was on the other side of Hrau-Ard; Noah and Tony were sat on either side of Abby, who was in Tonyâs old high chair at one end of the table; and Dad was at the other end. Everyone else was scattered randomly around.
As the first course was served, everyone began to chatter to one another. The Doctor seemed quite relaxed, but I couldnât help noticing the way Mumâs eyes kept fixing on him as he made cheerful small talk to everyone around him. Her lips pursed reflexively every time he stopped talking. She tried a couple of times to get Dad to tell us about something that had happened at work, but he had insisted he didnât want to talk shop. He was determined to take some time away from it.
âFine,â Mum muttered under her breath, âjust tryinâ to liven up the conversation. Honestly.â
âI thought we were having a lovely time,â I told her. âEveryoneâs relaxed and chatting⊠well except Therin, but you know⊠Whatâs going on? Youâre up to something. I know you. You never ask Dad about Torchwood.â
âPfffft, donât be daft! Course I ask âim. And jusâ wâat do you mean âup to somethinââ? Wâat could I possibly be up to?â With that, she turned deliberately away from me and began speaking to Hope about the progress of the Lunar settlements and asking her how she was finding living on a base. âI donâ know if I could take it, yeah. No fresh air, being cooped up inside all the time. I think Iâd lose my mind, yeah.â
The Doctorâs eyes brightened as he responded to her. I was relieved he didnât end up spewing out something rude about her already having lost her mind years back, which honestly seemed like it would be the natural course of the conversation. Instead, he launched into one of his diatribes about the environmental systems on the bases and how they purify the air.
With a smirk, Mum sat back in her seat to listen.
ââŠand remarkably, the fundamental design never changes from base to base, year after year. Itâll be centuries before someone gets the bright idea that basic human needs arenât quite being met byââł He was cut off when the partridge on his shoulder swung around and flapped its tail across his face. He frowned, spun the bird back around, and began to speak again.
This time the bird nipped his ear.
âFuck!â he shouted in pain, which of course was mimicked loudly by Abby at the other end of the table.
âYou dolt!â Mum snapped. âNow, look what youâve done!â
âOi! Itâs your blasted bird that bit me! Oi! It just did it again!â
âFuck! Fuck! Fuck!â Giggles erupted from the little girl as her daddies tried to shush her, and everyone had a good laugh.
Except Mum (âDonât be so stupid! Itâs not a real bird, ya numpty!â); and the Doctor, who glowered at Mum but (remarkably) held his tongue.
âMum,â I hissed at her, âit bit him. I saw it.â
âBit him? Stuff and nonsense!â
The Doctor shook his head at me, and at his telepathic request, I decided not to pursue it any further.
Abby had calmed down again, her new word forgotten as quickly as it had come, and normal conversation resumed around the table as the main course was served. It wasnât long before the Doctor had dived into a conversation about the most current medical breakthroughs with Gray and with Hrau-Ard, who was apparently training as a physician as well. They bantered back and forth for a short time and then the Doctor launched into a long discourse about the benefits of some sort of medical scanner or other. About a minute in, the bird wheeled around, slapping him in the face with its tail once more, and another few seconds after that, it bit him again.
âRight! Ow! Again, you bloodyâ Ow!â He dug into his trouser pockets for his sonic, threatening the bird with it. âNow, weâll sortâ Blimey! STOP! Ow!â
I glanced over at Mum who was chuckling away to herself, while everyone else was up, getting ready to help the Doctor. Oh, she knew exactly what was going on. And I had no doubt she had orchestrated it.
Hrau-Ard had stood up and was holding the bird still, his tentacled appendages wrapped around it securely. He was doing a great job keeping it from pecking at the Doctorâs ear, which seemed to happen every time he tried to talk.
Mum scoffed next to me. âTalks far too much, anyway, that one. Maybe this will teach âim to keep quiet and not monopolize the conversation.â
âSo, this was you, then? How the hell did you...?â
âOh, sweetheart, it only goes off when âe natters on for too long. It resets again after âeâs given our ears a bit of a break.â
âButâŠâ
âOh, I know a few of the folks down in Tech. They were quite âappy to do me a little favour, especially after âimself barged in there a month or so back and told âem they were sequencinâ somethinâ-or-other all wrong.â
âHe told me about that. It was all wrong!â
âWell, seems they didnât like âis tone⊠all âigh and mighty and âIâm so cleverâ.â
I flopped back in my chair, and just shook my head. I returned my attention to the other side of the table where the Doctor had adjusted the settings on his sonic and was brandishing it at the animatronic bird.
âOi,â Mum yelped, âdonât you damage my bird.â
âPriorities, Jackie! Your bloody bird is trying to damage me. Do you realize how hard I had to concentrate to get these ears⊠not to mention this hair?â
âIt is really great hair,â I agreed.
âOh, shush you!â Mum shot me a scathing look.
âRight then! Allons-y!â Heedless of my mumâs protests, the Doctor activated the screwdriver pointing it at his feathered attacker, and several things happened all at once.
The strangest screeching sound reverberated from Hrau-Ardâs crests in harmonics that mimicked the sonic. He lost his grip on the bird and doubled over, two of his appendages flying to his crests. âThis tickles! This tickles! I think I am about toâŠâ
The bird, freed from itâs confines, resumed its attack on the Doctorâs ear, feathers flying everywhere. The Doctor, fumbled his sonic screwdriver, caught it again, and made a quick adjustment to the frequency, constantly yammering and threatening the bird and Mum, not quite making the connection that if he just shut up, the stupid thing would stop pecking him. Finally finding an opening, he pressed the tip of the sonic to the birdâs breast, activating it with a triumphant âHa!â
Hrau-Ard had resumed his composure once the sonic had stopped but started making that bizarre sound from his crests again once it was reactivated. His facial filaments were absolutely trembling. âIt is happening again. I am going to⊠I am going toâŠâł
The sound seemed to amplify the effects of the sonic. The hapless partridge stopped its attack, but its entire body began to pulse as the wailing hoots from Hrau-Ardâs crest intensified. Everyone was covering their ears, except the Doctor who had turned off the sonic, and was watching in horror, from the corner of his eye, the ominous pulsing of the bird on his left shoulder.
âI am going toââł Hrau-Ard shouted, and his crests shrieked in a final eruption of noise, and the birdâs body suddenly exploded with a massive blast, sending feathers, sparks, and electronic gizmos everywhere.
ââsneeze,â Hrau-Ard hooted into the silence that had fallen over us all.
A long moment later, just as everyone was catching their collective breath, the Doctor yelped, as cinders from the explosion caught in his hair, causing it to smoulder and burn. âOw, ow, ow! Blimey! My face! My hair!â
Abby started howling; everyone started shouting; I leaped across the top of the table to get to my poor husband; and Gray, the only one maintaining his composure, picked up a pitcher of ice water and dumped it over the Doctorâs head.
The Doctor sat there, completely stunned, as water dripped from his fringe into his face.
âOh my God! Doctor!â I pulled his damp body against me, hugging him tight. âAre you all right?â I pulled back from the hug to look him in the face. I took in the angry red welts, the burned hair andâŠ
He must have seen my astonishment. âWhat? What is it?â
âYour⊠your left eyebrow. Itâs⊠itâs goneâŠâ
âWhat? What?â His fingers flew to his brow, where the hair had been singed away. âWHAT?â
âAnd some of your hair⊠just up the left sideâŠâ
âJackie Tyler!â he bellowed. He made to get up from his chair, but Gray shoved him back into it.
âSit still! You have burns. Iâll need to use the dermal regenerator on them.â
âIt wonât bring back my eyebrow, though, will it? My left eyebrow too. Itâs my most expressive one,â he added wistfully.
Mum had come rushing around the table. âOh, sweetheart, Iâm so sorry! That wasnât supposed to happen. Iâll cut your hair for ya, real nice. And your eyebrow will grow back again in no time, I expect.â
âYeah, I suppose it will,â he said relaxing a bit. âAnd more expressive than ever! Makes you think, what would I ever do without eyebrows?â He shuddered at the thought. âAnd, Jackie, I have to admit, you couldnât have known that the sonic would resonate with Hrau-Ardâs crests and make the bird explode like that. Though, I have to say, good riddance!â
âIt is all my fault. I must apologize profusely,â Hrau-Ard hooted, his wings fluttering.
Mum protested, âOh, no, Howard!â
âNah, sheâs right, Hrau-Ard,â the Doctor reassured him, âdonât be silly! But now I know not to use my sonic at that frequency in your presence.â He beamed. âBesides, what fun would Christmas be without a little bit of unexpected excitement?â
âAt least there arenât any blinkinâ killer Christmas trees, yeah?â Mum pointed out, as Gray finished up with the dermal regenerator.
âOh yes! Too true. Looking on the bright side, Jackie. Do it while you can, because you know whatâŠ?â He bounded out of his chair, tore the remnants of the hapless partridge from his shoulder, and plucked the Santa hat from Dadâs head. He shoved it over his wet, scorched hair and with a wicked grin spreading over his face, he sang: âJackie Tyler⊠you better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout. Iâm telling you why: Santa Claus is coming to town.â
Oh, God, Santa, the look on Mumâs face. âOh, you wouldnât dareâŠâ
âAnd Santa isnât happy, Jackie. Really, you better watch outâŠâ He skipped away out of the dining room, heading directly for the kitchen.
Mum took off after him. âYou stay away from my appliances. Youâre a bleedinâ hellion, you are,â she shouted.
Hrau-Ard honked in alarm and pulled Charlie next to him, wrapping his tentacles around her.
âDonât worry, love,â Charlie sounded resigned, âyou get used to it once youâve been around this crowd long enough. Weâre all a bit mental, but we all love one another.â
So, there it is, Santa. A typical Tyler-Noble Christmas!
I spent quite a while trying to intercept the Doctor before he did any damage to Mumâs kitchen... and other things. I actually found him mucking about in her en suite. Not sure if he managed to do anything before I caught up to him and got him back home, but at least I got to him before Mum did. Like I said before, he looks far too pleased with himself, despite the missing eyebrow and the singed hair. He must have left some sort of surprise behind for Mum. No doubt Iâll hear about it soon enough.
And right now, Iâm just waiting for him to âreturn the favourâ he promised me in Mumâs powder room earlier, something about making me scream so loud Iâd be heard all the way to Gallifrey. Heâs just spending an awful long time in the loo... probably trying out my eyebrow pencils, if I know him. Maybe later Iâll take the TARDIS out, go back a few days, and get him some of his own for his stocking before everyone gets up tomorrow morning.
Happy Christmas, Santa. Give my love to all. Sorry for going off on a bit of a tangent earlier. I was just lying here, waiting for the Doctor and thinking⊠Oh, I reckon youâre used to it by now, yeah. Thereâve been a few tangents over the years and I havenât had a lump of coal yet. But, just saying, if you feel the urge to leave a lump of coal in the Doctorâs and my mumâs stockings, by all means, go right ahead! Iâm all for it!

Rate the episode
84% of users rated the episode a 4 or 5 this week, compared to 64% last week. This episode had less action, but was full of key character moments that manga readers were excited to see animated.
So far it's my favourite since it follows the most the manga but with some bearable adjustemements. If the episodes will be like this from now on, I'll be completely satisfied and could get over all the changes in the first two episodes.
The adaptation is doing well, but of course manga readers(me included) about some bits being changed and rearranged. But on the other hand they might come me up with something unexpectedly good. I won't forgive them if they don't give shit machine tho.
Itâs starting to feel more like the arc I love
It was great, I'm having trouble deciding which episode is the best of this season yet. I thought the second one was the best, but then I remember the premiere and now, once again, I am thinking about the 3rd one being the greatest. The quality this season is off the charts.
Compared to episode 2, episode 3 was quite uninteresting
I think it must have been boring and confusing for Anime-only's
This episode was appropriately paced for an episode full of flashbacks, and honestly I think it paid off to get the backstories of Erwin and Historia in one showing to avoid conflicting with the future action episodes. Â I don't have much else to say- I can't really be critical because it was a pretty good episode, adaptation-wise.
Which of the following moments were your favorite?
Hange taking their anger out on the table and Levi walking in on it is the winner here! The closest runner ups were seeing Leviâs wanted poster and getting Erwin and Historiaâs backstories. We all agree it was nice to see many of these things in color animation finally!
Hange's scene where she blames her table destruction on a cockroach? Totally relatable. And I loved that Levi kinda teased her for it.
I have been waiting for Erwin's back story for AGES and was not disappointed! Kidwin was as heartbreakingly adorable as expected (that nose!! The sad bby at the funeral!!)
I liked all the topics they addressed that had been previously skipped (Historia and Erwinâs pasts). Also, while the sequence of events have been changed, Iâm looking forward to how they are going to pan this out.
Erwin has great ass.
Hange's tableflip scene was amazeballs, man I love her!!
Pixis in a suit. Pixis in a suit. Pixis in a suit. Pixis in a suit. Pixis in a suit. Pixis in a suit. Pixis in a suit. Pixis in a suit. Pixis in a suit. Pixis in a suit. Pixis in a suit.
The conversation between Erwin and Pixis gave me thrills. I thought it was going to be boring, but it was very well shown.
My girl Hange's time to shine in this episode! I want her "BAAAKAAAA" as a ringtone asap
Who drew it better: WIT or Isayama?
51% of respondents thought the OG drew it best. Isayama can finally sleep at night. Funnily enough, the anime only respondents preferred WITâs version!
Who has the best reaction to Historiaâs backstory?
Sasha took the lead as she paused licking at her soup bowl to listen to Historiaâs story. Connie was easily the next runner up with his dumbfounded expression. We werenât surprised to see Springles win this one!
How cute was baby Historia?
The vast majority of respondents just wanna pinch those cute little cheeks (and probably take her home, treat her to some hot cocoa and love her properly).
And baby Historia was the cutest omg! That lil nose and her lil blush! I'm crying bittersweet tears here.
How could anyone possibly look down on and abuse such a precious little bean like baby Historia?? Alma's so patheticâŠ
Baby Historia is the cutest thing I have seen in anime. She is so adorable and sweet! I would love to hug her so much! She is just too cute! <3
Child Hisu is ADORKABLE
How cute was little Erwin?
While this is a tiny bit more spread out than Historia, the majority of respondents were also enamored with adorable kidwin and are ready to adopt him at any time (and probably give lots of hugs too!).
BABYWIN!!!!!!!!!
Young Erwin was def my fav bighead-bigbrows!
I love Erwin so muchhhh my precious baby is so cute and handsome at the same timeeeee I just want to hug him and never let anything bad happen to him againnnnn
The episode was dialogue heavy with a lot of character backstories and plot exposition. What type of episodes do you tend to prefer watching?
In general, respondents donât mind if an episode has a lot of action or if itâs a bit slower with some good plot developments. What matters is that we keep moving forward and that itâs entertaining, right?
About episode type: Tense conversation ready to break into action at any second, like when Kenny and Levi were talking in the bar.
It was a nice change of pace after all the fights in the first 2 episodes but I'm looking forward to the action  coming back next episode
Did Flegel really stay in that alleyway the entire night?
We asked this mostly for fun and respondents didnât disappoint. The majority believe that he did stay in the alleyway the entire night, but plenty of you had some fun commentary (and sass) to provide us all with some laughs:
Based on how the events at Erwin's went, I'd guess that Reeves was killed nearing dawn and it hasn't been that long.
During the night, he went to slay all of marley and came back in the morning, Flegel for president!
Oh crap, I didn't even notice that. Part of me wants to say maybe he left and came back, but that really doesn't make much sense if he's trying to not get caught. No doubt the Interior Squad would have surveyed the area a little before getting the body ready for a public reveal to frame Erwin.
He took one long leak
He went to get sour cream and came back
Slept in a trash-can then went for a morning stroll
insert Schroedinger's cat analogy
No clearly Annie came and rescued him
Somehow he knew Commander Handsome will be there, so yeah, he stayed. I would stay too <3
no, he crawled up the wall like a spider and slept on the rooftops dont worry
On a scale of 1-5, how distressed are you about Eren being tied, gagged and drugged?
Most respondents seemed unconcerned or indifferent to Erenâs current situation, but those who are distressed were pretty vocal about it:
PLEASE MAKE SURE THE POOR BOY GETS SOME WATER??? Â The little scene with his in-and-out of consciousness is very distressing to see!
I pray that Eren gets a happy ending; I feel SO stressed for him
Who has the best hat?
Connieâs sunhat took the lead! But we agree that all hats are good and that everyone was looking fab.
HAT HAT HAT I'm really hoping that from this point on, they will follow the manga more closely again, as I am not super impressed by the current shake-up in event order but most importantly HAT HAT HAT JEAN GOT HIS HAT.
The hats!!! The hats are so good!
Love his top hat but lost half his lines for it
JEAANNN'S HAAAT
How many flashbacks within flashbacks is too many?
Half of respondents appreciated the Inception reference and just want to be flashbacked into oblivion. Okay but seriously, there were some who got a bit confused by WITâs use of flashbacks for some of these scenes. We hope youâre holding up okay during current manga chapters!
bit weird to slow it down this much when the first 2 episodes were so action packed, 2 flashbacks in one episode is a bit much if you ask me. the episode didnt give you any break or a few seconds to let the information sink in.
I was confused by flashbacks in flashbacks. I don't lke that type of stuff and I got feeling that they were traveling in time :/
How do you feel about the rearrangement of events after this episode?
45% are still tentative and not ready to judge the situation just yet. However, a good 37% combined are either content or are already finding they like the changes better. It seems the optimism is starting to improve overall!
Dont remember much of the order of events in this arc, as long as it all makes sense its fine. I trust Isayamas judgment
I prefer the mangaâs order, but I am content, BUT Iâm still waiting for more episodes to make a final judgement, BUT Â Iâm still very confused with where they are going with this.
I want to slap the whole WIT Studios and Yams but u know im okay for now.
Same story, different medium. Pretty neutral, happy I donât know word for word whatâs going to happen.
So I was very very nervous about the changes and pacing, but them taking the time to slow down and let the emotional weight of Historia and Erwin's backstories sink in is just what I needed to calm down a bit. I still have some preferences with the manga, but I'm sated to the point of watching and waiting without making too much of a fuss.
Some changes do make the action flow smoother, but im not happy that the studio decided to cut out Reeves-Levi wall bonding and L's squad 2.0's doubts on killing people
Rearrangement? Who cares? Erwin on graveyard was pure sex how was I supposed to thino about rearrangments???
I think the anime is doing a good job restructuring the arc, and is preserving its internal consistency quite well. But I am upset about some of the things that got removed, so I don't quite like the anime's retelling.
The rearrangement was understandable, however until I can look over the whole arc, I wouldn't be able to give a fair opinion on the execution of this season.
How do you feel about Historiaâs absence when the Survey Corps proposed she needs to be queen?
As with the previous question, nearly half of voters are not yet ready to judge how the changes will affect the arc overall. 35% of you guys think it was a bad choice on WITâs part. Itâs probably safe to say weâre all on our toes wondering how WIT is going to handle this plot development as they move forward!
I hope we can still see the Levi smiling moment at the end of this arc despite the absence of these scenes.
I prefer Rod being the one to push the idea of her royalty into her, and I still think we'll get a moment regarding Levi's will to accept a different kind of hell and pushing Historia to make a choice in some other way later.
It didn't have a huge significance to the plot but it gave both Historia and Levi some good characterisation.
I feel a mixture of "I need more episodes" and "It was a poor choice".
Had to be done for an action packed start the season but I'm disappointed as it is an important scene for Levi's development
It was a poor choice that broke an important chain of events, it was Levi who had to force Historia.
Ralph called Hange a devil after they were locked up. Was this good foreshadowing to current manga events?
71% of respondents believed that this was good foreshadowing! We suppose one nice part of the anime being as behind from the manga as it is, is that we can recall these older moments that manage to have thematic relevance to current events.
I think Hange being called a devil was amazing foreshadowing, but also in a sense that, by overthrowing the current system, they are unwittingly putting themselves in the exact same position as the old government and its cronies were in with almost exactly the same problems and solutions available to them, the poor things just don't see it yet.
After this week, do you believe future episodes are now going to be more faithful to the original chapters?
50% of voters are confident that WIT is mostly headed back toward the linear timeline of the manga, with maybe small bits and pieces shuffled or omitted. 28% arenât feeling as optimistic about it, however. But 18% are confident weâre back onto the strict manga timeline.
I'll have to wait and see all the episodes. No point trying to guess, only to be disappointed. Isayama authorised the changes, let's see what his new vision of these chapters!
I believe they will be faithful more than just "a little bit." Â It seems the PV is a good indicator of that. Â The Historia rising up to be queen is definitely going to be handled differently and there is no way around that. Â But I'm ready, Wit!
im still trying to grasp what they trying to do of the pacing and the moments and i still hope the upcoming eps will make sense of all that cuts and flashbacks.
They'll have to do something different with Levi and Historia's 'discussion' about her becoming queen. I wonder if it will happen later, and someone else will do Reeve's line about him being a scary but good man? It would be interesting if someone like Mikasa does it.
Leaked episode titles PROVE they are gonna butcher up the cave scene
Maybe yes, maybe not. It all depends on Isayama and WIT, so let us wait for episode 41, shall we?
Which scene from the PV are you most looking forward to this week?
The largest group are most looking forward to Jean testing whether or not they can trust Marlowe and Hitch (please give us the stick WIT!). The close runner up is Levi interrogating the MP with the nice mustache and a case of foot-in-mouth. Literally.
I'm totally excited to see Marlowe and Hitch!
Central MP HQ next week?!?! Hoping for some new action scenes.
GIVE ME HITCH AND MARLO RIGHT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW
everyone in the PV is hot (yes pulverized erwin is still included)
Which group of characters are you favorite?
âAll of themâ wins as the good neutral vote.
I never know how to answer the which group is your favorite question because my fav is 104th + Annie (sans RB). So I'm always answering sans RBA which is unfair to Annie.
Where you do primarily discuss the series?
Additional thoughts on the episode?
A little bit better, but not enough. But overall I'm satisfied and I enjoyed it.
All in all, a very nicely done episode. I like how the story is coming together, all the different elements in the manga are there, just in a different order. I had high hopes for this season and so far I am not disappointed!
At this point I have absolutely NO clue where they are, or what's going on. The manga was less confusing for me.
Damn cockroaches, always ruining Hange's day.
Earlier I was really salty about Levi having to hold Mikasa back everytime it was mentioned that Eren was kidnapped, but later I noticed that instead of Mikasa being cool with it immediately like she was in her manga, in the anime they are slowing her development down to make it more realistic and believable(Levi had to physically restrain her the first time around, while the second time he just had to talk her down) so I still have faith it wit. I am still a little angry that the "That wasn't how I raised him." scene was cut though. It was an important Mikasa-Armin moment. But oh well! At least we got to see Jean in his glorious fedora!
Felt well-paced, I do like that they are tweeking things to make the anime feel more smooth.
Hanji looked like a snack throughout this episode shes so hot oh my god Iâm so gay
Baby Erwin and Historia are wonderful, and I really like that they put two very different parent/child relationships on display here. Erwin's devotion to his father's theories, and the closeness to their relationship paralleled the neglegence Alma showed towards Historia - and in the end, the parents meet the same fate, offed by the Interior Squad."
Both Historia and Erwin's backstories needed stronger direction. Also, just a nitpick, but the soundtrack they used when Sannes told Hange "good luck" was an extremely weird choice. It was a very grim and ominous scene yet the music in the background didn't reflect that.
Pixis' lack of opposition was annoying. It seemed like he was just there so that Erwin had someone to talk about his backstory to. In the manga his red-line of no blood being spilled and his willingness to stay with the nobility if they had unknown but good reasons for their behaviour increased the stakes a lot.
I love the consistent tension buildup and the music choices that just compliment it. Sawano has been on a roll with the new tunes, and the way old ones have been used has been fantastic. Attack on D for Erwin's flashback is a choice I didn't consider, but I'll be damned if that wasn't a great call.
I just want to protect smol Historia and precious little Kidwin
Loving the development for Erwin. People need to realize that he isn't some cold hearted badass. He has feelings too ya know!
Thank you to everyone who participated! Weâll see you back on Monday!Â
