MOON 11 (Silver Box Segment)
<< FIRST | < PREVIOUS |
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ASK. Welcome to the Silver Box mechanic!
For those who have experienced this segment before - welcome back! For those who are new readers, or this is your first Silver Box Segment, this is a way for ForestClan to include the audience into the narrative. Rootgrove possibly holds answers that you do not have. Pry information from the beast, and give Shiverpaw the knowledge she needs to protect her Clan. A refresher on the ground rules:
You don’t need to use my ask box; replies will work too! The ask box just allows you to be anonymous. Keep in mind that if you use replies and your question is answered, you will be pinged on the response post!
Question segment SHOULD end in about a week, but with the influx of new readers since my first segment + upcomming Easter/Passover next week, I MAY have to extend it. Beware, however! Not all answers may be honest. Prior interactions revealed that the Silver Box answers with two voices - only one of them is Rootgrove, the other are the Deep Roots bound to him.
The questions you ask will determine the amount of knowledge Shiverpaw has in the narrative of ForestClan’s story. This might affect what decisions she can make in the future. Consider Shiverpaw a party member you’re trying to guide!
ADDITIONAL NOTE: I cannot promise every question will be answered, since I'm just one person managing everything. The last time I had the Silver Box segment, I was working from home and drew answers on my breaks, now I am in office and cannot, lol. Shiverpaw will try to give Rootgrove the most pertinent messages she can!

I find it so interesting you mentioned you'd frame a hypothetical Trojan War adaptation from the pov of Sarpedon. Why him specifically?
so i've thought an embarrassing amount about how i'd construct a trojan war movie. it'd be divided into several segments with a different main character for each segment, so that the story of the trojan war is told non-linearly, with homer acting as a narrator to help the audience along.
i'd want sarpedon to be the star of that first segment (and the audiences' first introduction to the war and the rules of this universe) because i think he's perfect for establishing a lot of key ideas: the gods' investment in the war; the concept of demigods; how all these men have a life at home (sarpedon misses his wife and infant son); that anyone mortal can die, even those beloved by gods; and most importantly (because i've yet to see this in any adaptation and i want to prioritize it!) the very real and horrifying metaphysical consequences of not receiving proper funeral rites. i want the audience to fully understand that these men do not fear death as much as they fear what comes after (for their souls/psuche/that part that IS them) if their bodies should be hacked apart or left as carrion. i want sarpedon's death, the destruction his body, and the nightmarish fate of his being that can never enter the underworld, to resonate sooo hard through the rest of the movie. i want every viewer to understand later why patroclus' compatriots would risk their own lives to retrieve his corpse, and just how horrifying it is that achilles refuses hector to his face to return his corpse unharmed to his family.
sarpedon would be the narrative key to how death works in my epic movie, pretty much.

I also find it interesting that neither Dot nor Roy had anything in their intros suggesting they were looking for Friede. Dot is looking for abnormalities within pokémon around the world (which could have started as a way to keep her streaming career going, since she's not able to get out there and experiencing things herself anymore), and Roy is literally just doing what Friede brought the Rising Volt Tacklers together to do. That can be seen as an attempt to carry on Friede's legacy, but it really does make me wonder if they earnestly do believe that he is dead, and thus there is no reason to look for him. It would make sense, given that it has been a year with no contact, but it also feels strange to think about Dot and Roy (and now Liko that she's back on the road) have given up entirely.
(I didn't mention Liko at first, since my guess about her wanting to avoid thinking about the RVT at all due to the trauma of it all ended up being correct. But she and Roy are traveling together now, and are just searching for more traces of Rakurium thanks to the burden Lucius put on them. Which is a good and noble goal, but it still seems odd that they've given up unless they truly do believe Friede died after that fall.)

I have no patience for “but don’t worry I don’t hate dean” blogging
like even if you’re in the minority who do hate dean who gives a fuck outside of you could be playing touys with me even better if you managed to cut thru all the perfectly valid reasons for your disinterest in/disgust towards him. like is hating dean a crime lmfao. to this fandom it is!
hating sam is the real problem lol it changed the course of the canon at several significant junctures.

idk if it's because my mum worked in a tv magazine or what but all the media wars and backstabbing and stuff happening behind the cameras is so so interesting to me
#just saw what happened yesterday in la revuelta ojalá se muera el enano pelirrojo#so for non-spaniards here's a crash course on the situation (i could do a post about media groups in spain cause it's a lot)#there's this one late night show that's been on air for about 15 years called el hormiguero#it started fine (i used to watch it with my family when it started)#but soon there were some issues that people were seeing#especially concerning the presenter (who's also the head ofthe show) pablo motos#and his attitude with female guests he'd interview#basically being very weird and gross around them#apart from that in the last year he started to get very political in the show#he invited right and far right leaders while refusing to do so with the left wing#started making monologues at the beginning of each show critizising stuff the left had done or said#and finally included a debate segment in the show in which he invited liked-minded people to discuss politics#this has directly affected his audience. my dad is a fan of el hormoguero and i've seen him turn more right wing every year#so. last summer RTVE (national broadcast company) announced they were gonna do a late night show presented by david broncano#it's hard to describe everything here but basically broncano already had a late show called la resistencia in a streaming platform#it has always been very popular with young people and it is quite left wing#the new program made by RTVE was called la revuelta. it is exactly the same as la resistencia#before it started airing people were sceptic that broncano would be able to defeat motos' hegemony#BUT. ever since it started aiting in september it has consistently been getting more audience than el hormiguero#who would've known people were tired of the redhead bastard#anyways. apart from this. different celebrities on ppdcasts have been saying that in order to promote their product they are forced to go#to el hormiguero even of they didn't want to#there's also rumours of pablo motos blackmailing people (mostly comedians) who make fun of him#and now to what happened last night. i don't watch tv so i just saw it on twitter#broncano opened the show saying that they were sorty but they had no guest tonight#they had this one person but 30 minutes before shooting the people from el hormiguero had called him#he was originally going to go both to la revuelta and el hormiguero#but the guys from el hormiguero called him to tell him that if he went to la revuelta he couldn't go to el hormiguero#el hormiguero is bigger than la revuelta so. he had to cancel#broncano went on to say this had happened before and that's why he was talking about it

yall mfers need to stop
#gay characters written with a straight audience in mind are a thing im not denying that#like 95% of one-off queer storylines in the early 2000s were just#''hello i am a gay. i have just enough personality to pass as human in the eyes of the audience.#now let me explain why you should treat me like a person''#but my god have people taken this phrase and run all the way into hell with it#if i see one more person saying heartstopper is for straight people im gonna start biting throats out#it was created by a queer person first of all#and second of all they did not write an entire subplot about there being no age limit on discovering who you are#for STRAIGHT PEOPLE#that wasn't for them!! it was for all the people in their 30s who watched the first season#and cried their eyes out because they were seeing all the things they never got to have#im so tired yall#i stg any queer media that's even remotely lighthearted or optimistic#is immediately called ''sanitized'' or rejected as some fantasy aimed at straight ppl who dont want to deal with harsh realities#when that just isnt fair at all#also side note the post i saw that prompted me to make this also put ''pretty much all queer media made in asia'' on the list#of queer media for straights#which. feels racist.#i really dont have much of a frame of reference for queer anime/kdramas/cdramas etc. but the generalization feels sketchy#idk man i feel like there's a certain segment of the community who will just say anything they dont like is not For Us#like just because it isn't for YOU doesnt meant no one in the community can relate to/enjoy it ffs

I. Hurt.
And I was hurting anyway, I'm pretty down this morning, but this hurt came from an outside source, and affected me in a way I'd honestly not have expected.
See, we bought Nimona last week. After seeing the movie, my kids wanted to read it. And I ended up reading ahead, and I just finished it.
Bonus content at the end, it said, and I was like, oh, an epilogue to the epilogue maybe? That'd be nice. I don't love bittersweet endings, I'd rather...
...no, it's not the conclusion.
It's CHRISTMAS.
In a book that'd had no religion that I noticed up to that point, BOTH bonus extras...were Christmas.
Ya know, usually it doesn't bother me. Usually I just suck it up. I think it helps that I was raised around mostly Jews and people who, if Christian, it didn't matter much to them. I'm from the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the descendent of Lower East Side immigrants, and while the world outside was brutal - my grandfather was a World War 2 veteran and among the soldiers who liberated Dachau, I can't remember a time when I didn't know that most people would look the other way if people like me were slaughtered wholesale - my bubble was safe, we were accepted, we were insiders.
I honestly can't think of another time I've interacted with a piece of media and felt so immediately, instantly knocked across the face by OUTSIDER as I just did when I excitedly turned the page to see what these fun extra bonuses were...and it was fucking Christmas.
I didn't even read them.
I'm honestly. So disappointed.
I don't have a thick armor for this kind of hurt. I'm Jewish, and as an adult living outside my old UWS bubble, that's often meant I've felt like an outlier, but I've hardly ever had this feeling where I was welcome to something only to be suddenly, violently shoved out the door.
And I've heard nothing, n.o.t.h.i.n.g. but praise for this book. And on another day, it might not have bothered me. I've never really felt like I had to fight to be seen, especially since I'm tremendously secular. I mean, I've celebrated Christmas my entire life, for starters.
But why. Why was this fantasy setting suddenly Christian? Why was this the touted extra content? Why is THIS special, when the areligious world established to that point was apparently not special enough?
I can't say yet if this ruined the story for me. It's far too soon. But I'm *intensely*, viscerally let down, and...I hurt.
Christians...maybe stop doing this shit.

Uh oh. When were the woods last fed? Is the beast hungry?
Or maybe, Endless signals the beginning of something big? Something it needs to save energy for?

[KNOWLEDGE UNLOCKED]
It is just an animal, driven by hunger. It cannot be reasoned with.
[SHIVERPAW'S ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SUMMARY+RELATIONSHIP CHANGES BELOW CUT]
[KEY KNOWLEDGE UNLOCKED]
ENDLESS WAS ATTACKED BY ROOTGROVE, BUT SOMEHOW ESCAPED.
ONLY YOU CAN COMMUNICATE WITH ROOTGROVE. NOTHING ELSE CAN HEAR HIM - AS FAR AS HE KNOWS.
ROOTGROVE CAN HEAR THE SOUNDS OF THE WOODCRAWLER TUNNELS, THEIR PASSIVE DESIRES, AND SENSE WHEN THEIR TUNNELS SHIFT DIRECTIONS.
[ROOTED SUBJECT]
THE MONSTER PREVENTED DISCUSSION ABOUT AN INFECTION OR DISEASE IMPACTING ROOTGROVE. SHIVERPAW KNOWS THE MONSTER IS AFRAID OF FIRE, AND THUNDER. SHE WILL NEED TO CORNER THE MONSTER IN THE FUTURE TO CONTINUE THIS LINE OF INQUIRY.
[GENERAL KNOWLEDGE SUMMARY]
Like all Deep Root entities, the monster is averse to fire and thunderstorms.
Rootgrove was comforted by simple questions that reminded him of being a cat. However, delving into positive memories of his life was more straining on his psyche.
The aggressive voice from the box is, indeed, the monster itself.
Rootgrove holds no affection for Chicoryglint, the former ForestClan medicine cat and Windfur's mentor. Neither does he know where she is.
Rootgrove still holds bitterness and anger towards Lakestar. He sees her as responsible for the way he is. He believes himself absolved of any possible crimes he tried to commit.
Both himself and the monster seem to prefer the name "Rootgrove" as opposed to anything else, but Shiverpaw has no intent on calling the monster anything but a monster.
The monster considers other Woodcrawlers its kin, and claims they "grow".
The nests of all Deep Root entities are called "Gardens", and they're described in a life-like manner.
The Woodcrawler either refuses to answer, or doesn't know, why Rootgrove is connected to it.
The monster's only motivation, is to satiate its hunger. Nothing more, nothing less. It cannot be reasoned with.
It seems to make attempts to conserve energy when starving - either making minimal effort to answer, or its mimicked words breaking down.
The excitement of the hunt seems to remove its energy conservation.
It has an eye. At least...you think it's an eye.
[FINAL INTERACTION RESULTS]

Watching the live concerts again and god, RADIANT FORCE is still such a miraculous moment. If I get fired up everytime I watch it I can only imagine the energy that must have been running through anyone who was in the audience.
Symphogear truly embodies the message of uniting people in song, and it shows not only in the show but also in the concerts. And I sincerely love that.

Finished half life 2 episode 1 and, it was alright.
I didn't feel as engaged with it as the base game. Idk why.
My biggest gripe is fucking Alyx, please girl shut the fuck up...
I liked the base game because so much of it just felt really isolating and the moments you weren't were usually short lived.
Tldr, Alyx is fine in short bursts but for three hours of gameplay it makes me want to beat her with my crowbar

i think my main issue with barbie (2023) is that a lot of it's feminist messaging feels very confused or just doesnt translate well. and i think it has a big "tells and doesnt show" issue in terms of what its saying about womanhood. that being said i've seen it twice now and both times have been the most fun moviegoing experiences i've had.
