The recent Electron 8.0, 8.1, and 8.2 releases make significant improvements to their framework for building cross-platform desktop apps with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Highlights in these releases include a performance boost in communication between main and renderer processes, better control over call stack, the addition of an HTTP parsing NODE_OPTION in a packaged Electron app, and a new useSessionCookies flag for secure use of the session cookie store.
The Electron 8.0 release modifies interprocess communication between package.json's main script and each web page in Electron. V8's structured clone algorithm for serialization  reduces the time needed for interprocess communication without affecting the latency for small messages between the two processes.
Electron 8.0 also adds the ' --enable-api-filtering-logging' command-line switch for better control over the call stack. This command enables caller stack logging for the desktopCapturer and remote APIs.
The Electron 8.0 release adds a timeoutType property allowing developers to control the duration of Linux and Windows notifications. A new API session.downloadURL() replaces webContents.downloadURL(), which avoids performing any security checks that relate to a download page's origin to trigger downloads.
Previously, developers could set a custom traffic light positioning for browser window title bars on macOS. In Electron 8.1, developers can now set this property on the fly with a pair of APIs.
Tumblr media
Electron uses Node.js internally, and as of Node.js 11.5, the default HTTP parser was replaced, which broke several use cases and took a stricter approach to HTTP header parsing and validity. Electron 8.1 introduces the '--http-parser=parser' NODE_OPTION, allowing developers to switch to alternative HTTP parsers.
In previous versions of Electron, the audioMuted property was not working for WebViews. The webview.audioMuted = true was supposed to mute the WebViews but instead triggered the following warning. The Electron 8.1 release fixed this issue.
Tumblr media
In recent releases of Electron, the net module which issues HTTP/HTTPS requests was designed to send a fetch-like request from the main process. But this net module lacked secure support for using cookies in the same manner as fetch requests. This limitation encourages hacks and insecure direct usage of the Cookies header.
Electron 8.2 introduces a new useSessionCookies flag for network requests to securely use the session cookie store similar to a fetch request. This new flag leverages Chromium's internal cookie store logic for all network requests.
The Electron 8.2 release also introduces a disableDialog option to Webpreferences. The option allows disabling dialogs similar to the safeDialogs option with the ability to override safeDialogs behavior completely.
Tumblr media
Electron 8.2 fixes a crash that could occur when sending arrays over interprocess communication. The release also fixes an issue where mutating the global Object prototype could cause internal Electron logic to throw errors.
Developers have shown generally positive responses towards caller stack logging and HTTP parsing alternatives, but there are still a few concerns. The setBackground property is not working in Electron 8.x.x, and page rendering performance drops significantly after updating Electron to the latest version. Developers want the remote module disabled by default due to its security liability. In the future, Electron plans to remove process model patches for better performance, security, and maintainability.
Electron is an open-source framework used to build cross-platform desktop apps with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS that leverages Node.js and Chromium. Electron is available under the MIT License. Contributions are welcome via the Electron GitHub repository and should follow the Electron's contribution guidelines and code of conduct.

The BRIT Awards 2017 Review
The BRIT Awards is my favourite music award show of the year! I always look forward to watching and seeing who won which award, here is my review!
The show started off with quite the entrance from Little Mix who performed their hit 'Shoutout To My Ex'!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGvj0D42zjs
David Tennant kicked off the awards by announcing the winner of British Female Solo Artist was Emeli Sande! (My winner prediction for this award was Emeli Sande)
Bruno Mars was next to perform his song 'That's What I Like' and as usual put on an effortless routine, that guy is UNBELIEVEABLY COOL.
Maisie Williams and Romesh Ranganathan presented the next award to The 1975! (I was extremely happy about this! I predicted they would win too!) DON'T STAY IN YOUR LANE.
The late, great David Bowie won the award for British Male Solo Artist presented by Zane Lowe and accepted by Michael C. Hall (My winner prediction for this award was David Bowie)
A stunning performance of 'Hurts' by Emeli Sande was next!
Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw gave the next award to Rag 'N' Bone Man for Best British Breakthrough Act! (I correctly predicted he would win this award).
'The Sound' was performed by The 1975 next and it was brilliant! I absolutely love this band!
Then there was very touching tribute to all those we lost in 2016. It really was an awful year for loss to the industry. A special tribute to George Michael was given by Andrew Ridgeley, Pepsi and Shirlie, giving a brief history of the band and how his music will allow him to live on forever. Chris Martin then performed a rendition of George Michael's song 'A Different Corner'. RIP George Michael
The award for Best British Single, presented by Holly Willoughby and Fearne Cotton went to Little Mix for 'Shoutout To My Ex'! (As I predicted, I thought it would be between Little Mix and Zayn) It is their first BRIT award, and well deserved! Congratulations girls!
Katy Perry and Skip Marley did a performance of her brand new song 'Chained To The Rhythm'. I really loved the production of this song, (I aslo really like the music video for this song! Check it out here if you haven't already!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Um7pMggPnug
Jonathan Ross and Naomi Campbell presented the Global Success Award to the fantastic Adele after the incredible success of her third album '25'.
Skepta was next to the stage to perform his song 'Shutdown' #AudioMuted.
The award for International Male Solo Artist, given by Radio 1 presenters Clara Amfo, Alice Levine and Laura Jackson went to Drake. (I thought Bruno would win this but am very happy for Drake!) And for the International Female Solo Artist, it was Beyonce. (My winner prediction was Beyonce) For International Group, it was A Tribe Called Quest. (I predicted Kings of Leon or Twenty One Pilots for this award and I was a bit shocked that one of them didn't win and I must admit, I've not heard of this band but I will be listening to them for sure!)
It was revealed that the collaboration we all didn't know we needed until it happened was between The Chainsmokers and Coldplay! What a team!! What a song!!
British Artist Video of the Year presented by Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger went to One Direction for 'History' and was accepted by Liam Payne on behalf of the rest of the boys.
Next up was the one and only Ed Sheeran doing what he does best, gracing us with another exquisite medley of his hit songs 'Castle On The Hill' and 'Shape Of You' with a twist which included a rap from Stormzy!
Time for the big award, Mastercard British Album of the Year presented by Noel Gallagher went to David Bowie for 'Blackstar' and was accepted by his son.
To end this year's BRIT awards, Robbie Williams put on a brilliant performance (as always - he is quite the entertainer isn't he?!)
Thank you for reading! Let me know your favourite performances and what you think about the winners!

The Brit Awards 2017 As Told Through GIFs
These were the Brits 2017, ICYMI…
But, if it's the Brits 2017 red carpet photos you're after, head this way. Little Mix's big opener
Opening the show, were Little Mix, carried on mirrored futuristic thrones through the celeb-packed audience. They gave a sass-tastic performance of Shout Out To My Ex, surrounded by pumping, hunky, shimmering silver men. The pit at the front, though, could barely muster up a cheer, let alone a side shuffle. A lacklustre reception for the biggest girl group in the world.
Emma Willis’s arms…
Seriously, they deserve their own Instagram account and we’re hunting down her PT as we type. RELATED: Emma Willis' pregnancy tips for staying sassy when you're expecting
Bruno Mars, you're giving us…
Shirt envy. Is it wrong? We don’t care, we dig the colour-blocking. It certainly detracted from his underwhelming performance.
If three makes a trend, then polo necks are IN…
‘Men must wear black polo necks,’ read the Brit Awards dress code. We presume. Ed Sheeran, the boys from Clean Bandit, Mark Wright off of TOWIE and one of Bastille all rocked a simple black polo underneath their suit jackets.
Chris Martin’s X George Michael Hearing Chris Martin sing along with the angelic tones of George Michael made us realise, all over again, how much we’re going to miss him. As his former Wham member, Andrew Ridgeley, said during a moving on-stage tribute: “His is a legacy of unquestionable brilliance."
Little Mix’s classy acceptance speech
On winning Best British Single for Shout Out To My Ex, one of them said: “Cheers to our exes! This one’s for you lads.” Brilliant.
Katy Perry was the main Twitter-Bait of the night…
It didn’t take Twitter long to figure out the deeper meaning behind Katy's performance…
Is this a secret message @katyperry #BRITs2017 @BRITs pic.twitter.com/KkFWrF9xyf
— Harry Plester (@harryplester) February 22, 2017
Get you Katy Perry… #brits pic.twitter.com/yA8XTnfpz0
— Ben Kelly (@BenKellyMusic) February 22, 2017
Then there was the discovery of 2017's 'left shark'… so many LOLs. Actual slap-your-thigh LOLs.
Found the "left shark" houses!!!!! #KatyPerryBRITS pic.twitter.com/YZFIARwCIn
— Enola Cochrane (@Enola_Cochrane1) February 22, 2017
Then one of her backing dancers stacked it off the stage! We're hope you're ok, Mr/Mrs House.
I'm crying the House fell off the stage #BRITs2017 #KatyPerryBRITS pic.twitter.com/LlknbQIbsi
— Ali (@ChocMilkSheikh1) February 22, 2017
Beyonce won Best International Female Solo Artist…
…But couldn’t be bothered to send an acceptance video. Bey, you’ve changed.
And the winner for best performance goes to… Skepta
Even though large chunks of it were censored, causing #audiomuted to trend on Twitter. And some people, understandably, called for Robbie Williams' closing performance to be #audiomuted instead.
Continued below…

Front speakers on permanent 🔇 . . . . Got the new headunit in and guess what...no sound in the front speakers...safe to say they are pretty much burnt toast. Had an adventurous time popping off the door panels...So the oem setup is 8" lower and 1" upper tweeter. But I may get adventurous and custom upgrade myself to the Oem premium speaker setup with a 4" in the upper door panel. 🤔 ╔════════⁣⁣⁣═══🏁🚗🏁══════════╗ #Toyota #ToyotaCelica #ToyotaCelicas #ToyotaCelicasOfAmerica #Celica #6GCelica #6GCelicas #3SGEBeams #3SGERedtop #BeamsRedTop #JDM #Celicaclub #CelicaLife #Celicafamily #Celicalove #DropTopCelica #DropTop #RHD #T200 #ST202 #CelicaNation #BlownSpeakers #NoSound #AudioMuted #🔇 ╚═══════════⁣⁣⁣🏁🚗🏁══════════╝ https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn7Rxq6p5lD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
