Fasanenschlösschen The ‘Little Pheasant Castle' known locally as ‘Fasanenschlösschen' is an eighteenth-century hunting lodge on the grounds of the Moritzburg estate, outside Dresden, Germany. The building was designed by the Dresden architect Johann Daniel Schade (1730-1798) and constructed between 1770 and 1776 to be used as a hunting lodge. The interior spaces were decorated with rare and exotic rococo finishes, including painted wood and plaster, stucco lustro (a special plaster finish in imitation of marble), mural paintings on canvas, inlaid wood paneling, and painted and gilded ceiling stucco, as well as unique finishes crafted out of materials like embroidered silk, straw, pearls and feathers. In royal hands until 1945 the building was then used as part of a natural history museum until it was closed for restoration in 1996. From 2010 - 2013 ‘WMF’ assisted with the conservation of the castle’s interior wall coverings together with the ‘Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung' (‘East German Savings Bank Foundation’) and 'Sparkasse Meißen'. The project prioritised the conservation of the rarest finishes, which were in urgent need of attention. In the bedroom the original feather wall decoration was almost entirely intact. Surviving feathers were cleaned and reinstalled. In the Elector’s Bathroom a unique assembly consisting of straw interwoven with rows of pearls and attached to canvas backing with silver wire were also be conserved. Historic embroidered silk from the Chinese Cabinet was carefully replicated with the aid of comparative studies, archival records and oral descriptions, as little original material survived. Where the historical record did not provide adequate information a simple finish matching the original in colour and texture was substituted. The building is an ideal museum of Rococo interior decoration. #neonurchin #neonurchinblog #dedicatedtothethingswelove #suzyurchin #ollyurchin #art #music #photography #fashion #film #words #pictures #neon #urchin #schlossmoritzburg #augustthestrong #friedrichaugustIII #rococopalace #johanndanielschade #johanngottliebhauptmann #ostdeutschesparkassenstiftung #sparkassemeißen #worldmonumentsfund (at Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBKyh-kgca-/?igshid=wqe0tdnfh8pd

The Dresden Hofkirche was build 1739 under the reign of Kurfürst Friedrich August ll von Sachsen. The architect was Gaetano Chiaveri who also build the Russian academy for science. The #church is consecrated to the holy trinity. Well back then Dresden was totally evangelic. So why is there, in the centre of the town such a great and expensive catholic church? 1697 August the strong married the daughter of the #polish king Maria Josepha...and to get the blessing of the father he had to convert. He had the hope to gain the crown of the #holyromanempire through this alliance. But on the other side he feard that the people of #sachsen would revolt so he never tried to build a #catholic church in Dresden. 1712 his son Friedrich August converted too and brought Sachsen close to a religious war. To calm down the evangelists #augustthestrong promoted the construction of the famous #frauenkirche This calmed everyone down and years later the #dresnerhofkirche was build without a revolution Photo made by @xoauraliaxo #history #medievalhistory #medievalworld #medievalrchitecture #architecture #historylovers #medievaltimes #medievalcity #medievaltown #travelling #travelblogger #traveltheworld #travelphotography #travelgram #travel #germany #insta #instagood (hier: Dresden-Altstadt, Sachsen, Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7LLOT2IO-H/?igshid=higczf6ciwef

Fasanenschlösschen Shortly after the remodelling of ‘Moritzburg Castle’ as the country seat of August the Strong a single-story pavilion was built just 2.5 km away by the architect Johann Christoph Knöffel. The pavilion’s foundation was later used for the Chinese-style ‘Little Pheasant Castle’ (‘Fasanenschlösschen’) in 1770. Elector Frederick Augustus III of Saxony had the pavilion built in the middle of the gardens. Johann Daniel Schade who had been the architect in charge of the royal building projects, received the commission for the Rococo design. Construction was completed about 1776. The shell-pink pavilion is located at the end of an alley leading to the main castle. The square building has five bays wide on each side. The high roof has an ogee profile, capped by an open cupola with a pair of Chinese figures under a parasol as a finial. Concealed behind plantings to give the pavilion an isolated ambience where outbuildings used to breed pheasants for use in hunting. The few rooms, including the elector’s study, are furnished with original trappings. The Rococo finishes include murals on canvas, inlaid wood paneling, painted and gilded stucco ceilings, and unique finishes crafted from materials like embroidered silk, straw, pearls and feathers. The interiors were restored between 2009 and 2013 through a collaboration between ‘Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung’, ‘Sparkasse Meißen’ and ‘World Monuments Fund’. The castle comes complete with its own pond, miniature harbour and Saxony’s only lighthouse. #neonurchin #neonurchinblog #dedicatedtothethingswelove #suzyurchin #ollyurchin #art #music #photography #fashion #film #words #pictures #neon #urchin #schlossmoritzburg #augustthestrong #friedrichaugustIII #rococopalace #johanndanielschade #johanngottliebhauptmann #ostdeutschesparkassenstiftung #sparkassemeißen #worldmonumentsfund #fasanenschlösschen #littlepheasantcastle (at Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBKyM0KgPPS/?igshid=1l3vuqlt8n7r6
