Eucalyptus macrocarpa interspersed with red and blue quandongs for the lovely Nina on the forearm. Fact time! Eucalyptus macrocarpa is a very distinctive species having a mallee-type habit of growth and spectacular large red blossoms. Quandongs are are small, bright red native Australian fruits that grow on an evergreen found in arid and semi-arid parts of Australia. You can use Quandongs for jams and pies, or stew them in sugar, water and orange juice, and use as a fruit purée. Aboriginals would eat them raw or dry to preserve them, pitting them, and then rolling the fruit in balls. Blue Quandongs are a smaller blue fruit that grows on a rainforest tree. It can be used in jams and pickles and is best eaten when soft and overripe, otherwise the fruit is sour and bitter with no other taste. Female King parrot with Scarlet Blaze, a Cinnamon Wattle on the ribs for Brighid. Acacia 'Scarlet Blaze' is a cultivar of Acacia leprosa (Cinnamon Wattle) originating from Victoria in Australia. It is noted for its unusual red flowers. The Cinnamon Wattle is naturally found scattered down through eastern Australia. It is called the Cinnamon Wattle because the leaves, not flowers, release a beautiful cinnamon-like fragrance especially in hot weather. The original 'Scarlet Blaze' plant was first sighted in 1995 by a group of bushwalkers in the Black Range State Forest, north-east of Melbourne. It was a single red-flowering plant growing among the usual yellow flowered forms of the large phyllode variant of Acacia leprosa (Acacia leprosa var. uninervia). As with all cultivars, 'Scarlet Blaze' must be propagated by cuttings to produce true-to-type plants.
