To carry on with my portrait brief I continued the process of book making. I was shown by Eoin how these machines work, the first one we used was the electrical paper guillotine in which we put my pieces of paper in and you could input into the guillotine how many mms or cms you wanted to trim off the ends of the paper and the machine would automatically straighten the paper out for you and align it so that the machine cut it perfectly. This was a really cool process to observe as its very convenient to have a machine cut the paper exactly the way you need it.
The next machine we used was a machine used specifically for book binding. You had to start by placing the pages together in order with them clamped with the straight edge up. After the machine heats up you slide a lever back and forth which dispenses hot glue that binds the pages together. After this you place your chosen book cover over the pages so the glue sticks that together too and then the book is flipped so it can be folded or creased in.
The book binding process was extremely fun and enriching as I was unaware of this facility the college had to offer and its now information that will be very useful for the next few years of projects in the college.
