the thing about Light is that he thinks the average person’s reaction to just about anything is to be completely unfazed. He genuinely thinks that having any sort of reaction (shock, joy, sadness, anger) to crazy news is suspicious and that a normal person would never have a reason to be surprised by anything

which is EXACTLY what makes L 10000x more suspicious of him

the thing is that to me kinger IS naturally a very silly person. like light or dark, hes a naturally goofy person- it just gets incorporated into his more erratic behavior in the light. i think theres an assumption that hes naturally calmer and that this comes out in the dark, but imo the only reason hes being so calm and gentle in ep 3 is cus pomnis Freaking The Fuck Out and hes worried about her (...probably worsened bc hes SEEN many times how that ends if left to fester :[ ). i said it before but one of the first things he does after pomnis just been thru smth deeply traumatic is to make a joke about his computer science bg (and when she Doesnt seem to even notice it he stops and changes his approach). and even still, even earlier in the ep like when the thunder takes the lights out (i wonder how the others managed at that part?) hes a little better at remembering things ("i just remembered a really funny joke!") but still a tad jumpy and prone to saying goofy things (but notably doesnt get startled by the angel. like at all. even BEFORE it reminds him of his wife). it makes me wonder if some of them werent genuinely attempts to keep the mood light for pomni or if he genuinely thought the sounds could be from magnets. or a boat

you know, tim is actually the one doing most of the rescuing in this installment (though that doesn’t mean he’s not hurt at various points); here’s a hint of emotional pear wiggler though!

sound is waves in the air, an analog signal, and vinyl records have a groove of varying widths engraved in them, another wave - you went from a wave to a wave, this makes sense

digital though? how did you take an entire songs worth of sounds and lyrics and instruments and express them only in the binary language ones and zeros - and -back again- with essentially a lot of really tiny wiring and resistors and capacitors and whatnot. and out comes music

the only reason the vinyl seems more mysterious than the digital is because you're so used to computers that their wondrous magic feels ordinary

One of my favorite parts of death note that really hammers in how…maybe not stupid but clumsy Light could be at times is when his mom tells him to take the trash out and he goes “ugh, fine” and she immediately clocks in that he’s being weird because he’s a responsible kid who usually never complains about that kind of thing. He put so much effort into fitting the role of a stereotypical teenage boy he forgot that even before becoming a serial killer he was never a normal teenage boy.

I mean this so genuinely, there is no way the people in his life didn’t know something was up. I don’t think they defaulted to “he’s a serial killer” but they absolutely were aware he was acting weird. But he looked down on them so much that the narrative never even introduced them
