Avicii’s Family Releases Statement Following DJ’s Death at 28

Following Avicii’s shocking death at age 28 on Friday, the family of the Swedish DJ has released a statement thanking friends and fans for the outpouring of love and tributes in the following days.

“We would like to thank you for the support and the loving words about our son and brother,” said the family of the artist, born Tim Bergling, in a statement to ET. “We are so grateful for everyone who loved Tim’s music and have precious memories of his songs.”

Many of the DJ's fans and famous friends paid tribute over the weekend, with Nick Jonas performing the artist’s 2013 breakout hit, “Wake Me Up,” at his show in Akron, Ohio, and Avicii’s friend and fellow DJ, Kygo, closing out his Coachella set with a memorial to the electronic pioneer.

“Coachella, I think most of you guys have heard, but today is a very sad day for music," he told the crowd. "Earlier today I got the news that Avicii passed away [at] only 28 years old. Avicii was my biggest musical inspiration and he was the reason I started making electronic music, so I don’t think I would’ve been on this stage tonight if it wasn’t for him."

"I know he’s inspired millions of other producers out there. So I want to end my set tonight with my favorite Avicii song,” Kygo concluded, before playing Avicii’s 2017 single, “Without You,” with a photo tribute to the performer at the end.

“Thank you for all the initiatives taken to honor Tim, with public gatherings, church bells ringing out his music, tributes at Coachella and moments of silence around the world," Avicii’s family’s statement continued. “We are grateful for the privacy during this difficult time. Our wish is that it continues that way. With love, The Tim Bergling Family.”

Avicii was found dead on Friday in Muscat, Oman, where he was vacationing. Swedish public broadcaster SVT, citing information from an anonymous police official in Oman, reportedly said Sunday that two autopsies performed by local officials revealed nothing suspicious and foul play has been ruled out in the performer's death. ET has learned that the performer’s body will be flown home to Sweden this week.

Muscat Hills Resort, where Avicii was staying in Oman, released a statement on Instagram on Saturday, writing that while they couldn't provide details about the DJ's stay due to privacy reasons, "he was extremely kind to all our staff and acted like any of our regular guests."

As Muscat Hills Resort, we have been receiving excessive amount of calls and messages with regards to the unfortunate death of Mr. Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. Due to privacy reasons, we are unable to provide details with regards to any of our guests’ visit or stay, however, all we can confirm is that Avicii did visit Muscat Hills Resort and throughout his visit he was extremely kind to all our staff and acted like any of our regular guests. Avicii definitely did seem to be in good spirits while enjoying his time and he was also very friendly with everyone. As much as we enjoyed his company here at Muscat Hills Resort, we are extremely sad to hear and read all the recent news and therefore we would like to express our sincere condolences to his family, friends and all his fans. We will be dedicating our coming Beats by the Beach party on 27th April 2018 in memory of Avicii and have our Bay Lights on throughout the night to keep his spirit.
