The Void Rains Upon Her Heart: Guardians

Another monster type: this time the Guardians. As usual, this is the surface level lore aimed at allowing non-players to understand the universe a little in case of multifandom RP or something, not a deep dive, and I'll use [] when I'm citing an in-game source.

Guardians are associated with Red Tetrids, the tetrids of Frustration. From our Tetrid-Memory-based overview, we learn that Guardians are mutated versions of the planet's wildlife. They're always much larger, and every species has at least one. They guard specific areas for unknown reasons, thus the name [Two Red Bonus Gift]. The areas they guard are referred to as Guardian Zones, and they head straight for the nearest zone as soon as they start mutating, overriding their species' "usual habits and instincts" [Three Red Bonus Gift].

They're one of the three monster types that lacks a "Zaranoid" form, and will look the same when conversing with the player as they do in battle, besides that Roundsaw takes her sawblade off [Wrath of Roundsaw Event: My Notes].

This might be approaching deep lore, but just to have one other thing to say in general besides "they are big creatures" I want to bring up the "newborn" Guardian monster, Guardian Soul. Newborn monsters are always some hazy shape in the color of the monster's symbol, which is also their Tetrid-association. The "My Notes" on Guardian Soul indicate she's incorporeal, and is looking for a place to fit in, after having "been born lost and angry". Her Burden says "Where should I go? Why am I asking that? I need to go somewhere? But where do I need to go? And why?" while her Blessing says "This feeling… I need to go protect something. Why does it need to be protected? And why do I have to do it? Because, I am the only one who can." It seems to me like the mutations Guardians undergo may not be random genetics in action, but perhaps a result of fusing together with a spirit that feels a duty to guard somewhere, although I cannot cite anything in game that says this is definitely the case.

I guess while I'm on the subject of unusual Guardian monsters, Ruby, who is actually made of Tetrid motes and is only an honorary Guardian [Ruby: My Notes], has this to say about Frustration and its opposite: Burden: So this is the feeling of frustration? It feels very painful, but it can also be used as a fuel to take action and change the situation. So long as it's kept under control Be very careful with this one. Blessing: So this is the feeling of content? This is a wonderful feeling. It is the feeling of having everything you could ever hope for. At least for a moment. Many others have so much more than you, and yet they still can't feel this. You are very lucky.

For regular representatives of Guardians, I've selected Lila and Roundsaw.

Lila is an "avioc", a species that can be described as eyeballs with bat wings. She's very shy and easily spooked, but likes sweet fruit and can be befriended with some [Lila: My Notes]. She also has bad days where she's even more shy [Shy Lila: My Notes]. If I recall her event properly, Orange Tetrids taste like sweet fruit to her, so they're her favorite.

Roundsaw is a "meerstalk", which is a segmented reptile that lives all throughout The Pit [Saw Bloom Power Gift]. "She uses this rare and dangerous flower as a weapon and has quite the temper", which is why they call her Roundsaw [still the Saw Bloom Power Gift] "A severe lack of affection has caused her to explode into fits of rage" [Roundsaw: My Notes]. Fortunately, as mentioned earlier since she's the only Guardian I'm aware of to change appearance during events, she will put the saw bloom away and can be hugged once loved in the dreamscape.

Other guardians include a couple 4-legged mites, a spiky sandworm, a spiky lavaworm, and a tall plant. Maybe I should've discussed one of the mites considering the green one, Rendy, is basically a mascot for the game. Oh well, let's get some screenshots in here and call it a post.

since adding family members and OCs i re-discovered plus merging a couple other 'verses into it, TRverse has jumped to second place in my OC list when it comes to number of characters per section, and first place for standalone 'verses. i also swapped it back into its own section and moved AIverse into the 'other' section, since it's really pretty tiny. if that ever changes we'll revaluate again lol

anyway, current stats as of 3/21/25

the two 'other' 'verses with the most characters are SERENDIPverse and AIverse with 9 characters each

talking about The List, time to be extra autistic about it: i kinda want to rearrange the sections again, argh. i don't like that fancharacters comes before the dnd sections. maybe also the other section. everyone else is either rescued into a Totally Mine OC or Totally Mine from the start, fancharacters are. well. what's on the tin. it makes sense to me to have them last. but god rearranging sections is such a pain. gotta shuffle them around in the all-characters tab, change the colors in several places so the sections stay in rainbow order, shuffle them around in the stats tab. some formulas gotta get updated but i think there's an easier way than how I've done it previously. i also have to shuffle several things around those in the list on my aviocs blog but i have to do that one anyway since i didn't update it last time i rearranged. need to fix that in general. i think there's more i'd need to fix connected to aviocs, 2 sheets i think? this is all, of course, self-imposed problems, but STILL!!!!

might do that today or this weekend. and also go back through the full list and make any other changes i've been meaning to, like updating names or figuring out stats details on those that've been uncertain

Reina’s just absolutely “thrilled” to be having to deal with R and their BS yet again, after she’s been wanting to be done with them since the end of Year 5. Since I’m not following canon, Peregrine is just some rando they gotta deal with, but claims to be a member of her family. He isn’t.

Reina’s patience with R is non-existent by this point, and she’s made it clear that it’s on sight with those fuckers going forward. She’s 18 and she’s fed up with the shitty little cult of self-righteous fuckheads that rely on vulnerable kids to do their dirty work.

The tablet thing she’s holding is her Mirror Tablet, which is the exact same as a modern iPad but fueled by magic. It’ll make sense later, I promise XD

Since I made a sheet for Reina, figured I’d do the same for Ricardo (Jacob). I’ve been planning on drawing him in heels for the longest time and damn does it look good XD This is his look as of Year 7. He’s pretty fashionable when he wants to be.

The cute little lovebird on his shoulder is his Familiar named Mango.

After some quick thinking over I decided to make adult Reina a bit chubbier since I wanted to realistically depict how her body would change after carrying and giving birth to quadruplets. Still a queen, of course lol. Gotta tweak her top a bit and I think she’ll be good to go.

I’ve considered drawing her in the HPMA style but I wouldn’t even know where to start. ALSO while not shown, she’s gonna be taller than Talbott lol I made the dude himself crazy tall as well (6’5’’), but Reina herself is a full 7ft. I’ll try my hand at giving Tal a more consistent adult look and then I’ll move on to their kiddos since they’ve gone through a few changes themselves as well.

Older Reina, anyone? Being one of those folks that age like fine wine, she's around her late 50s to early 60s here. She's a sweet mom, auntie and granny rolled into one. She's still as sweet and doting, and still very capable of kicking ass if necessary. Still living the best life she can every step of the way.

This is more of a standalone piece rather than her future in the HPHM AU, as I had her as an OC well before the game was even announced. However, this design can still apply to her HPHM self! Key difference is that she'd still have her wedding ring in that AU cuz both her and Talbott would still be happily married after all those years lol

After showing off Reina's staff, I wanted to include Ricardo's as well. His main theme is clouds and rainbows, and yes, those are real clouds on his staff lol I wanted to include some rainbows but thought it'd cause potential eye strain and look trashy, so I went with a nice pastel color scheme instead. The colors on the right are the same colors as his wand. The clouds also represent Ricardo's latent dream-based magic.

Story stuff below for anyone interested!

Story-wise, Ricardo received his own spellbook and crystal wand as a gift after he met Reina for the first time in his 3rd year. He kept it a secret from everyone except Dumbledore, knowing he (Ricardo) had access to new magic that would aid him greatly with the vaults. His talent for spell creation was also a definite plus.

While his wand did transform into a staff after he turned 15, he didn't have a chance to use it much. His 5th year was filled with misfortune starting with Olivia's sudden disappearance on their second week of September, Duncan's death in early November, his own subsequent expulsion the following month, and then his disappearance the following February.

He would create a duplicate of his crystal wand for Reina to find in his private room later on in her 3rd year.

Wanted to doodle Reina again cuz I started missing her a lot during my latest month-long burnout. Drew her in her Year 5 look cuz it’s just my absolute favorite. Clip Studio proved its amazingness once again when I realized that you could edit the proportions of its 3D models, and pose them however you want by simply dragging over the desired pose from Clip Studio’s folder to said model and BAM.

I did mess up quite a few times during the process and I know I still got plenty of learning left to do, but for now I’m so proud of these. While Reina’s 3D model isn’t 100% accurate, the fact you can mess with proportions to help them look closer to my OCs is awesome as hell. Included the sketches in both colors just because i adore them so much. If ya’ll get the chance, I highly recommended Clip Studio Paint.

After the fun I had planning out and drawing poses for Reina, I knew her bro Ricardo just had to be next. After making his model, I got to work figuring out which poses described his character the best LMAO I love this chaotic but good-hearted dumbass. While the previous post showcased Reina in her Year 5 look, for Ricardo I gave him my own personal design on what he wears after being freed from the painting. Reminder that for my AU, he aged while trapped in the Buried Vault, so when released he is 21. Also he went with the group back to Hogwarts instead of running off to chase Rakepick.
