Monte Saint-Michel, Normandy, France

Discover Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy, the protagonist of our image of the day! This French corner combines the tides with mediaeval history in a rock full of mysticism. According to legend, in the eighth century, the Archangel Michael appeared in a vision to the bishop of Avranches, asking him to build a sanctuary in this mystical rock. Thus was born the majestic abbey that still stands on the island, a spiritual lighthouse that has served as a refuge for monks and pilgrims over the centuries. Today, a World Heritage Site, it fascinates with its impressive tidal cycle. When the tide is low, an extensive sandy plain emerges, allowing access on foot; but when it rises, the sea surrounds the mountain, isolating it in its mystery.

Normandy trip : day 4, part 4 !!
Besides what we saw related to Easy Company, here are the highlights of the day !
We started at La Cambe, where we visited a German cemetery, which houses around 21 000 soldiers
Tumblr media
We then went to Angoville-au-Plain, where we visited the church
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The church became a sort of hospital during WWII, where two medics from the 101st, Kenneth J. Moore and Robert E. Wright, took care of 84 people, including a child. Wright is buried in the church cemetery. Some blood is still visible on some benches.
In Utah Beach, we visited the D-Day Museum. It's huge and it's a GREAT museum, organised by army/navy/air force, but since I'm limited in pictures, here's what I liked the most !
Tumblr media
A B-26 is visible. This plane was known to be quite a pain in the ass, it heated up too fast and was difficult to manoeuvre. It was nicknamed the "widowmaker".
Tumblr media
They also reproduced a plane crew briefing room !! With maps, diagrams and all.
We then went to Utah Beach after visiting all the memorials all around the museum.
Tumblr media
We finally stopped at Sainte-Mère-Eglise. We first looked at John Steele, hung up on the church.
Tumblr media
And we went to the Airborne Museum and holy moly. I swear.
The museum was so good, and immersive set ups were created, including this one :
Even the plane was trembling. We all are aware that it must have been so scary but God. And it's so loud 😭😭. The video doesn't do it justice but-
Tumblr media
The museum also houses a C-47, truly a massive plane.
Tumblr media
Statues were everywhere !! Here you have Maxwell D. Taylor, commander of the 101st.
Tumblr media
And this one just made me think of Harry Welsh and Kitty, it's a beautiful silk wedding dress made with a reserve chute!
Tomorrow, we're doing a last stop at the Saint James cemetery, an American cemetery near Avranches.
Thank you for coming on this journey with me ! I had a lot of fun and I hope you found something you liked, or something new to learn ☆

Welcome!
I’m just a liminal creature girl that remembers that she has a blog and post once a blue moon.
I make weirdcore edits (like the one above) and write. This blog is a mixture of shenanigans, aesthetics, and whatever weird little obsessions take over my brain at any given moment.
Stick around if you like overanalyzing fictional characters, and the occasional deep dive into liminal spaces!
Fun fact about the castle in background: The legend of Mont Saint-Michel tells that in 708, the Archangel Michael appeared to Bishop Aubert of Avranches in a dream, ordering him to build a sanctuary on the rocky islet, Mont Tombe, which later became Mont Saint-Michel. - courtesy of Google
