Your name was being called. First, it felt far away, slowly coming closer and closer, lifting you to the surface as if you were being pulled. The sound was muffled until you broke through the barrier, a female voice clearly called your name, prompting your eyes to fly open, and there you were, sitting up on Penelope’s velvet couch, cocooned in a crocheted blanket with what was sure to be a remarkable bedhead.
Lifting your hand and placing it over your racing heart, you looked up at Penelope, the blue streak that you had redone for her last night prominent against her blonde hair. “Hey,” you said, widening your eyes and letting the blanket fall from your shoulders.
She crooked a brow at you suspiciously. For someone who wasn’t a profiler, she did have a knack for reading people, but you supposed it came with the territory. “My darling girl, you are always more than welcome to sleep on my couch, it’s a wonderful couch, I have spent my fair share of nights sleeping on it,” she rambled, sitting down next to you and taking your hands in hers. “You’re hiding,” she told you softly, “What are you hiding from?”
Penelope reached out to you, sweeping a messy strand of hair behind your ear as her big, brown eyes looked at you sympathetically. The gesture and the way she was speaking to you nearly approached being sisterly. At the idea of developing a supplemental sororal relationship with the technical analyst, you pulled away from her. You shook your head, “I’m not hiding,” you told her simply, leaving her with a half-truth as you stood up and began folding the blanket that had kept you warm overnight.
Nodding incredulously, she looked up at you, “If your Luddite boyfriend is blowing up my phone, then something has to be going on.” Her tone was urgent, but she stayed seated, giving you an advantage.
“Nothing’s wrong, Pen,” you reassured her, shaking your head and shrugging simultaneously.
Her face filled with doubt, glancing over at your cellphone as it buzzed on the coffee table, Spencer’s contact flashing on the touchscreen as you ignored the call. “Why didn’t you tell him you were staying with me last night?”
Pressing your lips in a thin white line, you briefly considered coming clean. You envisioned the truth coming out of you in puddles, everything you had been holding close to your chest for the last month pouring out like alphabet soup, but Penelope didn’t deserve that burden. “I just forgot,” you told her, watching the screen go dark.
Spencer was a worrier by the influence of his environment. Adamantly against getting a new phone, he couldn’t see your location at any given moment. His first course of action was usually calling your sister before resorting to Penelope, who not only has your location on her phone but also has access to your location in the bureau database. It wasn’t a fault of his, members of the BAU did have a tendency to disappear in the dead of the night.
She urged you to call him back as her phone started going off, her shoulders slumping forward, a tell-tale sign that the BAU was being pulled in on a case. If you were lucky, you would be able to slip through the cracks, claiming to put all of your focus into the case so that you didn’t need to have an in-depth conversation with your boyfriend. Or your sister, for that matter.
“Where are we headed?” You asked, rolling up your sleeves and crossing your arms in front of your stomach.
Penelope frowned at the tiny screen in front of her, “Baltimore,” she said hesitantly, “Uh, we gotta go. I’ll drive? You can call Spencer on the way,” she suggested before bolting into the bathroom.
You ended up avoiding the call to Spencer yet again, claiming you’d see him at the office anyway, and instead opening yourself up to a barrage of questions.
Was there cheating? Are you pregnant? Were you pregnant? Did he propose? Did you say no? Did you say yes?
The two of you parted as she went to prepare files and you waltzed into the bullpen, clocking the vase of flowers on your desk immediately. They, of course, weren’t just flowers, but a carefully calculated decision made to try and get into your good graces. This was the fifth vase that had been delivered in the last month.
First, there were honeysuckles, a symbol of devoted affection. Red carnations told you that his heart ached for you. A bouquet of daisies because he truly loved you. Last week, white lilies were left on your desk, a symbol of pure love.
Now, a bunch of apple blossoms sat on your desk, telling you that he preferred you before anyone else. How poignant.
Your eyes burned as you looked around the bullpen, hoping he was around so you could return the flowers to him, but the only people you saw were Emily and Rossi, sequestered in her office in the middle of what seemed to be a tense discussion. Choosing to ignore the flowers, you walked over to your desk, tucking your go-bag underneath and starting to power up your computer.
“Hey, Y/N?” Emily called from her office, “Can you head to the file room and pull everything from the Lynch case?” She didn’t even wait for an answer before closing the door again.
Concerned, you turned around and started making your way to the file room. If Everett Lynch was back, that would explain the worried look on Penelope’s face when the case came in. Even more, that would explain why Emily and Rossi were hidden in her office. Every member of the team wanted to see Lynch locked up for what he’s done, but for Dave it was personal.
Opening the file room, you pulled open the drawer of active cases from the past three months, starting to strip the drawer of anything even remotely related to Everett Lynch. The revelation that Grace was his daughter took everyone by surprise, but Spencer still felt responsible for Luke getting knifed. You should talk to him about it, you thought to yourself, if he didn’t talk about it, he’d just continue to internalize it.
“I need to talk to you,” a voice said suddenly from behind you, jolting you away from your train of thought. Spinning on your heel, you looked at Spencer.
Alarmed, you huffed, “You scared me,” you informed him, clutching the files close to your chest as you studied his stature. He looked fine, his hair was a bit of a mess, but he was wearing the red cardigan that you had gotten him for Christmas last year. You didn’t even want to begin to consider the implications of his outfit choice.
He furrowed his brows at you, “I scared you? You disappeared last night without a word, and I scared you?” There wasn’t even a hint of anger in his voice, instead, his words dripped in sweet melancholy, and you couldn’t look away from him.
You thought about your sister, snatched from the nation’s capital in the middle of the night as vengeance for her work with the CIA. Spencer and Penelope, both taken from what should have been a secure FBI building by a cult that bore a decade-long grudge against the BAU. You had frightened him, probably tripping his overactive mind into believing you were destined to meet a similar fate – dying in a warehouse somewhere. Blinking absently, you shook your head at him, “I’m sorry,” you told him, and you meant it.
“You’re punishing me,” he accused, crossing his arms in front of his chest before quickly dropping them, being hypervigilant about his body language.
Skimming your tongue over the backs of your teeth nervously, you hesitantly met his gaze. He seemed to be convinced that you were punishing him for the events that had taken place last month, but you were inclined to believe that you were punishing yourself, he was caught in your crossfire. “It’s not a punishment, Spence,” you whispered, watching how his brown eyes shone under the fluorescent lights.
His shoulders dropped, disappointment plain on his face, “I missed you at the baby shower,” he confessed.
“Sprinkle,” you corrected.
“Semantics,” he retorted, and it almost brought a smile to your face.
You looked down at the files in your arms, not even realizing that you had been white-knuckling the classified information, “I was there,” you disputed. “I saw you. I brought the gift and put both of our names on it. What more could I have done?”
Rolling his eyes, he gave you a tilted look, “Standing together in the group photo would’ve been nice.”
In response, you straightened up your back, “Ah, you were too busy standing with my sister,” you quipped, bringing the conversation back to the root of the conflict.
“Will you come home tonight? Stay with me?” Your heart clenched at his question.
Hesitantly, you nodded, “I’ll be there,” you assured him, securing the last of the files before sneaking around him, skillfully avoiding the remainder of your team as you made your way to the roundtable room.

“I’m worried about Dave,” you whispered, looking at the other end of the couch at your boyfriend, the two of you dressed in pajamas, your old Georgetown sweatshirt frayed at the cuffs, but it remained your favorite.
The orange print of his Caltech t-shirt was peeling up on the edges, sometimes, at night, you’d pick at the emblem – it drove Spencer crazy, especially when he woke up in a pile of picked vinyl. His mug was carefully resting in his hands as the two of you had a nighttime cup of tea, something you used to do when you had just started dating, and that you decided to try to bring back – chamomile for you, lavender for him. “I talked to him tonight,” he told you, turning to face you, “He’s.. he’ll be fine. He has Krystall.”
And I have you, you thought to yourself, lifting your mug to your lips and taking a sip. Sometimes you felt special for getting this side of Spencer, the ratty college t-shirt and flannel pajama pants that he wore while lounging on the worn leather couch.
“Do you want to go to sleep?” He asked when you didn’t respond, leaning forward and setting his mug on the coffee table.
Shaking your head, you followed suit, setting your mug on a coaster next to his before crawling closer to him on the couch, taking him by surprise. “Not yet,” you whispered, sitting down next to him, relieved when he responded by putting an arm around you. “I’m not mad at you,” you told him, “I just needed time.”
His arm was warm and familiar over your shoulders, having the same effect as a weighted blanket, calming you down with a simple touch. “To think,” he said, “you keep saying that. Are you… do you need more time?”
You closed your eyes, leaning into him, “I don’t think so, but I’m,” you faltered, frowning, “I’m having a hard time talking to my sister.” It wasn’t a secret that there had been some sort of falling out between the Jareau sisters, but the reasoning behind the rift remained a mystery to most people.
“I am too,” he admitted, skimming his fingertips up and down your arm. “I keep recalling everything that happened, and I don’t fully understand how everything got so messed up.
Raising your eyebrows, you remained in the crook of his arm, “People say a lot of things with a gun to their head.”
What you hadn’t considered was that following her admission, your sister would avoid Spencer. When you decided to avoid both of them, you had no idea what you were taking from him. “What would your truth have been?”
“I’m afraid that everything surrounding me is destined to fall apart,” you admitted. “I was brought into my family in an attempt to rescue my parents’ marriage, but it didn’t work.” Your sister slit her wrists open when you were only four years old, but somehow your father had put her death on your shoulders. JJ left home as soon as she could, leaving you at twelve years old with your grief-stricken mother, who had spent the last several decades waiting for the day her daughters would all be reunited.
Spencer was quiet for a while before responding to you, “We should go to bed.”
He was probably right, the team was expected to be in early tomorrow morning. After leaving well past dark, the last thing you wanted to think about was going back in before the sun had a chance to rise. “Wait,” you said, “What’s your truth?”
Briefly, his eyes flickered, looking down the length of your body, “My truth is that I’m tired, we should go to sleep,” he told you, herding you toward your shared bedroom.
“Same time tomorrow?” You asked, walking through the bedroom and into the ensuite, grabbing your toothbrush off the counter.
Nodding, he leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to your temple, “I’ll be there.”

Maybe you should’ve taken it as a sign that you were unphased by the revelation of a crazy doctor with a fetish for skinning people. The world had strange ways of telling you that you needed to take a step back, for every sign you had been given, you took a step forward. That was how you ended up in the backseat of an SUV with your sister at the wheel and Spencer in the passenger seat.
Everett Lynch had invaded the BAU’s territory, coming in like an infestation in the district, and he was trying to break his daughter Grace out of jail. You heard through the phone that they were scrambling tactics, using the walkie-talkies in the U.S. Attorney building to prevent their own capture.
The car came to a screeching halt, and the three of you piled out, “There’s no time,” your sister said, looking around, “We’ll cover this one,” she informed Spencer, looking back at you as you adjusted the strap of your Kevlar.
“I’ll take the garage on Piedmont and 10th,” Spencer responded dutifully, nodding at the both of you before turning around and running to the parking garage two blocks over.
You and your sister started to make your way into the larger of the two parking garages, both of you pulling your firearms and pointing them down, keeping yourselves aware of your surroundings. There was movement in front of you, two bodies moving toward a white van with federal plates – the Lynch’s. “Everett Lynch,” you called out, “Drop your weapon and put your hands up, now!”
The man in front of you – the so-called Chameleon – scoffed in disbelief, “Take it easy. There’s no reason to gun down a daddy in front of his little girl, right?” You kept your Glock aimed at him, watching intently as he carefully set his gun on the ground. Sirens started going off in your head, a premonition of things to come.
“Alright,” JJ shouted, “Kick it over. Grace, you too. Drop your backpack and let me see your hands. Come on, now!”
Putting her hands up, Grace let her backpack fall to the ground in a heap of fabric, you kept your gun trained on them as JJ lunged to the side, reaching over to pick up Everett’s gun from the ground. “Grace!” You shouted, watching the girl bring her hands down as she reached for something, “Put your hands back up!”
It was a split-second decision, but you watched as Grace lifted that gun in her hands, and you jumped. You knocked your sister over as three shots rang through the air, the first one grazed her arm. The next two lodged themselves in your side as the two of you fell to the ground, your body rolling along the ground as the father-daughter duo loaded themselves in the van before driving off.
JJ grabbed her weapon and shot after them, hoping to blow out one of their tires or at the very least slow them down, but with only one good arm, her aim was off. She scrambled to her feet, “Come on, Y/N,” she huffed, not checking behind her before running out of the parking garage.
You wanted nothing more than to follow her. Being angry wasn’t worth it anymore, you couldn’t freeze out your older sister anymore. You tried to breathe, you tried to call after her, but when you opened your mouth, the only thing that came out was blood.
For your entire life, you had followed her. When asked what you wanted to be when you grew up, you’d tell them you wanted to be like your big sister. You wanted to follow her, but you couldn’t move.
You followed her from East Allegheny to Washington D.C. You had followed her into this very parking garage. Now, all you could think about was following Roslyn, bleeding out on the cold hard floor, alone.
“Y/N, what’s your location?” Spencer’s voice rang through your radio.
You had never been shot before. You had always thought it would be cold to be shot, but instead, your whole body felt like it had been set on fire.
“Y/N, do you copy?”
The wetness of the blood should have made it cold.
“Y/N?”
Your fire was slowly fading, the blaze that had gone up so quickly began to ebb as you stopped feeling anything at all. The tapping of shoes echoed through the parking garage as you lay on the cement.
“No,” that all too familiar voice said, “Y/N is down, she’s been hit. We need an ambulance now,” Spencer called into the radio, he was out of breath as he looked down at you.
He studied your appearance, clocking the entry wounds on your side and moving his fingers in an attempt to staunch the bleeding. An odd, choked noise escaped your throat as the pressure on your side stoked the fire.
Spencer’s fingers trembled even as he maintained pressure on your side, “I know, I’m sorry, I know it hurts.” He took a deep breath, “here, turn- turn your head,” he instructed gently, using his free hand to coax your face to the side. You choked and came to the horrifying realization that he was trying to stop you from aspirating on your own blood. “Get it all out, baby,” he cajoled as blood spurted from your mouth, “It’s okay. I’ve got you.”
That would have to be enough. It wasn’t enough for you to hope anymore. You had spent so long with the Anger and Resentment from your Pandora’s Box that you completely failed to notice how Hope had slipped through the cracks, lost in a sea of emotions.
“Do you hear that? That’s the ambulance,” he told you, an unspoken plea in his voice.
But you couldn’t hear the sirens, pretty soon, you couldn’t hear anything at all.

The EMTs had all kinds of things to say, none of them were even remotely comforting. The bullets had entered through the thin opening of your Kevlar, a sort of Achilles heel where you couldn’t be protected. He should have double-checked, he should have paused to adjust the straps before running to the other parking garage.
He watched the doctors shock you in the emergency room, looking on in horror as your heart stopped beating. “Are you her husband?” One of the nurses had asked.
Spencer’s mouth had gone completely dry, “I’m- almost,” he answered, earning a sympathetic look from the nurse as she proceeded to ask him questions about next of kin and extraordinary measures. One of the bullets had pierced your lungs, causing catastrophic bleeding.
The nurse guided him to a surgical waiting room, but no one came out to him with updates, leaving him to sit. Someone brought his go-bag by, letting him change into clothes that weren’t blood-soaked.
He sat in a pile of limbs on the hospital’s couch, picking at the crusted blood that he hadn’t quite managed to wash off, and he wondered if he could ask one of the nurses for a surgical scrub brush, wondering if that would get the last flecks of blood from the ridges of his fingernails.
“Spencer,” JJ called out, rushing through the hallway, Will trailing close behind her.
Her arm was wrapped with gauze, probably stitched up before someone told her what had happened to her little sister. “Hey,” Spencer said, standing up as they approached, wiping his clammy hands on his slacks.
JJ held her hands out, “What have you heard? Anything?”
“It’s gonna be a while,” he said, repeating the only words that he had been told. They had taken you to the OR an hour ago, and all they had to do was wait it out.
The clinical white walls of the hospital were enough to make Spencer stir crazy, when Will offered to get him a cup of coffee, he was almost aggressive in his rejection. The sunlight reflected off the drywall as your surgery continued to test his patience.
Eventually, your mother called JJ back, and your sister walked away in order to explain the situation under the guise of privacy, leaving Spencer alone. “Dr. Reid?” Someone said, maintaining the reverent tones of the hospital that were beginning to make him want to pull his hair out.
“Yes,” he said, standing up in front of the nurse.
The nurse gave him a gentle smile, and he braced himself for the worst. “Ms. Jareau is out of surgery,” she informed him.
You had been in there for nearly six hours. “She…” he faltered, “Can I see her?” He asked, looking past the nurse as if he could see all the way into your recovery room from where he stood.
Nodding, the nurse continued to smile at him, “I can take you to her now if you’d like. She’s still under sedation,” she advised, gesturing for Spencer to follow her through the winding hallways of the hospital.
“Is she going to be okay?” He asked, checking to make sure he had his phone in his pocket so he could text JJ if he needed to.
The nurse’s smile tightened, “We won’t be able to know if she’s sustained any neurological damage until she wakes up.”
He frowned slightly, bracing himself for an answer that he wouldn’t like, “Could she hear me if I talk to her?” He asked, stopping in his tracks as the nurse stopped outside of a room – your room.
“It’s unlikely,” the nurse answered.
That made sense to him, there weren’t any studies that could prove that people could hear external stimuli while comatose. At least, there wasn’t enough for the medical community to reach a consensus. “Thank you,” Spencer said, nodding at the nurse as she turned away, letting him know that the doctor would be by to talk to him soon.
Your skin was pallid, a sickly sheen covering your skin as tubes and wires worked together to monitor you and keep your body going. Spencer set your patient bag in the corner of the room before dragging a chair over to your bedside, cringing at the sound the chair made against the linoleum before taking a seat next to you.
The steady beeping of your heart monitor quickly became the only thing preventing him from falling apart entirely. “I’m so sorry,” he whispered, keeping his voice down so that no one else would hear him. “I keep going over it in my head and I don’t know how I didn’t realize you were missing sooner,” he spoke to your silent body, chest rising and falling with even breaths. “I’m so sorry,” he echoed, “You should’ve… you should’ve been my priority. Before Grace. Before Lynch. Before any of it.”
He inhaled shakily, glancing over at your vital monitor, taking comfort in the consistency of the numbers, “I should’ve put you first and now I- I can’t take it back,” he said, eyes burning with emotion. “I know things between the two of us have been kind of weird lately… ever since the pawn shop, I mean. I just,” he paused for a moment, giving himself grace, “I don’t know what to do with it. I don’t know if she meant it and if she did, what does that mean? When you didn’t bring it up after the wedding I didn’t either because I just didn’t know how to talk to you about it.”
Somewhere along the way, the two of you had gotten lost. In the midst of not talking about the pawn shop, you had stopped talking altogether. “Now, all of a sudden, none of it even matters. All that matters is that I need you to wake up because I need to have more time with you,” he sniffled, the first hot tears rolling down his cheeks. “I can’t imagine my life without you in it,” he whispered.
“Please don’t leave me,” he begged, thinking of all of those nights the two of you had stayed up talking about the future. Your dream wedding. Your children’s names. He needed it. More of it. More of you.
Mindful of you, he laid his arms on the armrest of your hospital bed, lowering his head and watching the consistent rise and fall of your chest, listening to the whistling of your nostrils as he waited for the doctor to come.
The doctor seemed confident that you would wake up, it was just a question of when. He sent JJ, who had gone home to change into fresh clothing, an update once the doctor left.
Every once in a while, your nose would twitch or your finger would tap on the hospital bedding, and he would allow himself to get his hopes up. It never lasted long, once the fluke ended, he went back to thinking about the situation realistically. You were still having blood transfused, there was a tube in your chest depositing fluids into a bag at your bedside, and even if you did wake up, there was a long road to recovery with an injury like this.
He was terrified that you’d wake up alone and in excruciating pain, so he refused to move, having any paperwork brought directly to him in your room. Nearly every fifteen minutes, he smoothed out the blanket that rested on top of you, careful when putting his hands near your body, even though you couldn’t tell whether or not your blanket was wrinkled. Spencer thought of it as tucking you in, keeping you safe, but he couldn’t help but wonder if it was too little too late.

You didn’t make it to the beach as often as you’d like. Spencer hated the beach, and you weren’t interested in swimming in the ocean so much as you wanted to go and people-watch. Families on vacation. Marriage proposals.
The first time you had ever gone to the ocean, you were three years old. JJ and Roslyn hadn’t been in years, but it was all new to you. JJ wanted to bring you to the water, and Roslyn hadn’t even wanted to go on the trip. The water hadn’t scared you then, the endless abyss of blue had seemed more inviting than anything you had ever seen before.
Now, you lay on the sand, all of it cold beneath your skin, the rest of the beach seemingly abandoned. Try as you might, you couldn’t move anything. You wanted to lift your arm to brush hair out of your face. You wanted to sit up. You wanted to go home.
You couldn’t even see the water from where you lay, you opened your mouth, hoping to call for help, but were surprised when the only thing that came out of your mouth was a dark, black sludge. It spurted from your mouth as it ran down your cheeks, staining the white sand of the beach beneath you. You were drowning on dry land, and there was nothing you could do.
Nothing but open your eyes.
The ominous white sky of the beach turned into white walls, as you fluttered your eyes open, the ocean made way for you, parting so that you could return to yourself. Laid in a hospital bed, trying to remember how to breathe, and meeting Spencer’s stare.
“Hi love,” he whispered, gently placing one hand on top of yours, drawing circles on the back of your hand with the pad of his thumb, careful not to knock your pulse oximeter off.
Your brows pinched together as you looked over at him, he looked tired, waiting for you to say something. Your chest felt tight as you looked at him, hundreds of thoughts bubbling to the surface, but only one bubble popped, “I had a nightmare.”
Spencer nodded slowly, messy curls falling over his forehead, “It’s okay, angel. You’re awake now. It can’t hurt you.”
It can’t hurt you. It can’t hurt you. It can’t hurt you.
You watched as Spencer reached over and pushed the call button on your bed. Each moment you spent awake became increasingly painful, signified by the slow rise of your heart rate, the pain only exacerbated when your breathing quickened. Alarm grew, “Shh, hey,” Spencer consoled you, reaching his hand out and smoothing your hair back, looking to the door and hoping someone would come in and help you.
They did, pushing pain medications through your IV and watching your heart rate stabilize before giving you something to help you calm down. Spencer probably knew what they all were, making mental notes to keep track of everything as he kept his hand in yours. Your pain level dwindled from a nine to a six, leveling out in the middle ground.
You settled back into the pillows, cringing as a nurse moved your bed so that you were sitting up slightly, nodding softly at the things that she told you about rest. She checked your vitals, before leaving the two of you alone, silence swirling around the two of you as you constructed a bubble to keep yourselves warm.
“I should’ve found you sooner,” he whispered, looking over at you, a distressed look in his eyes.
Moving at a turtle’s pace, you shook your head, “You saved my life.”
It’s okay. I’ve got you, he had told you in the parking garage, and he did. He still had you, even now. If they had let him, Spencer might’ve waited for you outside the operating room, just to be in the vicinity of you.
“Don’t go anywhere,” you murmured, eyes opening and closing slowly. Your eyelids felt sticky like there was still tape residue on them from your operation, but you didn’t dare move. You didn’t dare agitate any wound on your body. “Is JJ okay?” You asked, your voice tight. Checking in on your sister took all of your strength.
Spencer kept his hand in yours, moving his free hand to wipe at tears that had spilled over your lower lashline. “She’s fine, just a graze,” he reassured you, “I’ll call her when you go back to sleep.”
You swallowed thickly, wondering if you were allowed to have any water, “I missed you,” you breathed, fighting to keep your eyes open. “I wanna talk to you,” you sniffled.
“You should sleep, my sweet girl,” he answered, not wanting you to get into a hefty conversation in your condition. “We have all the time in the world to talk when you wake up.”
Except you didn’t. You had thought there was time for you to be angry, but then you had been shot. As much as you hated the idea of being someone who had a near-death experience and suddenly let bygones be bygones, alienating those close to you seemed exhausting. You took a deep breath, thankful for the nasal cannula on your face, “I’ve been so distant,” you admitted.
Spencer hesitated, not sure if you needed to get into this while so vulnerable, “I don’t know if she meant it,” he breathed.
“I don’t need to know,” you told him, surprising yourself as much as him with your admission. “JJ is… She’s one of the most important people in my life, but so are you. Maybe even more so.”
He frowned, “You can’t possibly mean that.”
You closed your eyes for a few seconds before opening them again, “JJ’s my sister, we share the same family, but I chose you, Spence. I will continue to do so,” you told him, deciding against adding until the day that I die. Watching him as he looked at you with tear-filled eyes, “Oh,” you sighed, “please don’t cry. I never meant to hurt you.”
Waving off your concern, he wiped at his eyes before taking one of your hands in both of his, “I love you so much, but I don’t want you to forget your anger.”
“Huh?” You hummed groggily.
“You’ve been mad for months,” he whispered, the strokes of his thumb on the back of your hand putting you to sleep. “It doesn’t need to fade away in the blink of an eye.”
You let your eyes slip shut once again, “I’ll still give you a hard time.”
He laughed slightly at that, “Good.”
“Spence?” You breathed.
“Yeah, baby?”
Humming, you settled back into the bed, “I don’t think I’ll be able to make our tea date tonight.”

When you woke up again, a familiar blonde was sitting at the foot of your bed, hunched in a plastic hospital chair while Spencer remained at your bedside, hands still intertwined, but sweaty now. “Jennifer,” he said, getting the attention of your sister.
She jumped up from the chair and sat on the edge of your bed, in your periphery, you saw Spencer retreat, ambling into the hallway to talk to Emily. Letting him go, you turned your attention to your sister, “Hey, Jayg,” you greeted, words coming easier now than they did before, the swelling of your throat had gone down.
Her finely chiseled eyebrows pinched together on her face, “I thought you were right behind me,” she admitted miserably, looking at your torso.
“It’s alright now, though,” you tried to reassure her. You had lost half of your blood volume, much of it on the parking garage floor, but you were here now, that had to mean something.
She shook her head in abject self-disappointment, “I should have protected you,” she insisted, scrunching up her nose as she fought back tears.
You were too tired to fight emotions, water falling from your tear ducts as the two of you tried to mend what had previously been torn apart. “You don’t need to protect me,” you insisted. The decision to take the hit had been entirely your own, driven by a need to protect her.
“I always have though,” she reminded you, “When Roz died, dad left, and mom checked out, I took care of you.”
When you were a child, you thought that having your pre-teen sister do everything for you was the way things worked. It didn’t last long, things unraveled from there, but you always had JJ. “I’m all grown up now,” you reminded her. You didn’t need her protection in your early thirties in the same way you needed them as a child.
JJ took a shaky breath, cupping your cheek with her hand affectionately, the way a mother would to their child, “You’re always going to be my little sister.”
You looked at her, seven years your senior, and you sighed, “Do you know why I did it?” You asked her, studying the sad look in her eyes.
She smoothed your hair back, grabbed a cup of water from your bedside, and brought the straw to your lips, “Why, Ducky?”
The childhood nickname chimed in your ears, one of the only things that you retained from your eldest sister. You smiled at her, “Your boys.” The answer came easily to you, “You have Will and your tiny people, and I just thought… I couldn’t let you leave them.”
“But I almost lost you,” she countered, it wasn’t aggressive, it was almost like she was trying to make you see the value in your own life. The people in your life didn’t make you valuable, you had value as an individual.
Shrugging, you looked at her sympathetically, “Nope,” you said, popping the ‘p’, “You’re stuck with me.”
She gave you a sisterly, knowing look, “Your heart stopped. Twice.”
You concurred, “Yeah, because you’re just that stuck with me.” You insisted, watching as Spencer answered a phone call in the hallway. “Did you call them?” You asked her, giving her a quick glance as you craned your neck to keep an eye on your boyfriend.
“Mom’s on a flight in tomorrow morning, but dad hasn’t responded to my voicemail,” she informed you, she didn’t look surprised, and you didn’t feel it.
Where your father was concerned, some things were better left unsaid, but you wouldn’t necessarily mind if he never responded to your sister’s calls. There was no reason to drag him and his new wife from their cushy life in Florida. Spencer reentered the room as JJ’s phone started ringing – Will – and the two of them traded off, amicably splitting time with you.
Greeting him with a content smile on your face, he leaned forward and pressed a kiss to your hairline, “I have to go,” he told you reluctantly.
You tried not to let any disappointment show on your face, “Why? What’s wrong?” You asked, studying his face for any sign of what his phone call had been about.
“That was Brookfield on the phone,” Spencer said, checking all of the monitors that surrounded you.
The grim look on his face made sense to you. Moving his mother into Brookfield had been the right choice for everyone, but her condition was never going to get better. Last time he had gone to visit, Diana hadn’t even recognized him, and you spent the rest of the day holding him, letting him know it was alright. “You have to go,” you echoed his earlier sentiment, nodding reassuringly.
He hesitated to leave you, sitting on the edge of your bed that had been previously occupied by your sister, “But you- you’re…”
You shook your head in dismissal, “Sometimes everything happens all at once, but you have to go.” If Brookfield was telling him to get down there, then he needed to go.
The next several hours passed slowly, Emily gave you an update on the case – the reader’s digest version, avoiding any gnarly details in an attempt to protect you. Will brought you and JJ dinner, eating the meal with them and your nephews, you were grateful to not have to eat the hospital cafeteria food. Slowly, the day came to an end, you sent JJ home when visiting hours ended, letting her know that you didn’t need to be protected while you were in a hospital.
You fell asleep not long after one of your nurses lowered the volume on your vital monitor, the dark peace of the hospital lulling you into a sense of safety. There hadn’t been word from Spencer, and you worried about him and his mother.
A tapping sound dragged you from what was thankfully a dreamless sleep, you recognized the sound of the footsteps, those shoes made a similar sound on the hardwood floor of your apartment, “You’re noisy when you wear your fancy shoes,” you mumbled drowsily, opening your tired eyes and tilting your head in the direction of the sound.
“Hey,” Spencer whispered, “Go back to sleep,” he told you gently, slowly making his way around your hospital bed and to the fold-out chair next to your bed.
You hummed, following him with your eyes as they adjusted in the dark, “No, you woke me up. Now you have to talk to me,” you told him, reaching over to switch on a lamp, cringing at the way the light burned your eyes.
Unprompted, he inspected your vital monitor before reaching out to adjust your nasal cannula, “Where’s JJ?” He asked, cupping your cheek affectionately before taking his seat.
Reaching out for your cup of water, you smiled to yourself when Spencer moved it closer to you, “I made her go home. Our mom will be here in the morning, and she’ll need all the rest she can get.” There was also the fact that Michael had been freaked out by seeing you in a hospital, so he needed some extra love from his parents tonight. “Wait,” you said, “How did you get in here? Visiting hours are over.”
“I might have told a small lie about you needing security,” he admitted sheepishly, but beneath it, he was smug. You didn’t fault him on it, you probably wanted him here just as much as he wanted to be here, if not more.
Smiling in the dim lamplight, you inclined your head toward him, “Did you misrepresent the bureau?”
He rolled his eyes, “I’d do it again if it meant I get to spend the night with you.” Helping you put your water cup back on your tray, Spencer took your hand in his, “How are you doing?”
You were exhausted, not in the sense that you wanted to sleep, although that probably couldn’t hurt, but in the sense that your entire body ached. There was a pinch in your side that wouldn’t ease up, and you didn’t feel comfortable with asking for more pain medication. Part of you was afraid that in the process of being shot, you developed a fear of drowning. You almost died today. Huge strides had been made in an attempt to repair your relationship with Spencer and with your sister. None of these thoughts escaped your lips, you just looked at him sympathetically, “How’s your mom?”
All he gave you was a tight smile, squeezing your hand tightly, “She’s ah… she’s alright,” he told you, your chest tightening at the emotion in his voice. “They’re calling it an awakening,” he continued, sounding unsure of himself.
“Terminal lucidity,” you breathed, a term you had only read about briefly when Diana was first diagnosed. The two of you had made many cross-country calls, trading information while Spencer stayed with her in Las Vegas.
He nodded, “Yeah… they don’t know how long it…”
How long she had left. How long she would remain lucid. “Are you okay?”
“No,” he answered quickly, too quickly for your liking.
You wiggled your fingers in his hand, getting his attention, “I want you to go back tomorrow,” you ordered him. It wasn’t something you were willing to budge on, insisting that he go back to Brookfield tomorrow to spend more time with his mother.
“She asked about you,” he admitted, leaning back in the chair, keeping your hands intertwined, “She wondered why we never got married. I told her it was never the right time. Do you know what she said to that?”
Watching intently as he shared the story with you, you shook your head, “What did she say?”
He chuckled lightly, “She said that might’ve been the most ridiculous thing she’s ever heard me say.”
You smiled as he recounted the story for you, mimicking the hand gestures that you were sure his mother had used. “Obviously she’s never seen your Dirty Harry impression,” you reminded him, trying not to giggle at the memory.
“The right time will never come if we keep waiting around for it,” he told you, reciting the words of wisdom that his mother had imparted upon him.
Your breathing hitched in the dark of the night, “Spence?”
He nodded, “Yeah, baby?”
“Are you going to ask me to marry you?” You asked him hesitantly, wondering if that was what he was getting at.
Spencer shook his head, “Not tonight, angel.” He looked around the hospital room, cards and balloons and flowers had made their way in through the afternoon and evening. Penelope had even brought your apple blossoms from your desk. His flower language seemed so inconsequential now. “Go to sleep,” he whispered, “I’m sorry for waking you.”
“Will you tell me a story?” You whispered, settling yourself back into the flat hospital pillows, resigning yourself to the end of the marriage conversation.
He hummed, dimming the lamplight, “Which one?” There were a few stories that he had memorized specifically for you. When work or life or nightmares got to be too much, he would recall them for you.
“Can we do Portrait of a Lady again?” You raised your eyebrows, smiling impishly.
He rolled his eyes sardonically, “Your love for Henry James should be studied in a lab.”
You waved him off, “Okay, and? It’s story time.”

Actually, wait, my SH hyperfixation has awakened once more. Let me ramble for a bit.
Another thing that the new games need to tackle is where the impact of Silent Hill's monsters stems from. Many designers will assume that the horror in a horror game stems from being chased by spooky monsters, and that's about where they'll pack things up.
Those types of games can be scary, but the fear we feel while playing them tends to last only as long as, well, we're playing them. You shut off the game and you return to the real world, where Jason Vorhees can't catch and impale you on a hook.
This is not so in Silent Hill, because Silent Hill's fear taps into the human psyche.
For me, it was never the monsters that frightened me; it was what they represented. This becomes especially true in SH2 and SH3, where we see a more diverse array of monsters.
Pyramid Head isn't just a dangerous big bad. He is the physical manifestation of James' guilt. The Abstract Daddy isn't just a creepy design. It's the representation of Angela's abuse at the hands of her father. The Closer isn't just there to block hallways. It's a mother figure, humming an eerie lullaby to Heather as it stalks ever closer.
These are real, potent fears. The fear of guilt. The fear of being hurt. The fear of being hurt by those closest to you. They're fears we can all, on some level, understand and apply to the world around us.
That's why the monsters in, for example, Downpour are so forgettable. They fail to tap into the human psyche. It's a big bat. It's a screaming lady. The only one I might say comes close to achieving the same effect are the Dolls. They might, at the very least, fall into the realm of the uncanny valley. They didn't scare me personally, but I can see why some might find them unsettling.
(The mannequin room in SH3 scares me far more than the Dolls.)
Speaking of the uncanny, liminal space has always been a HUGE part of the original three's appeal. Each game makes use of impossible spaces and spaces that are not quite right. The familiar becomes unfamiliar.
An empty town. An empty shopping mall. An empty prison.
Emptiness and loneliness are key components of a liminal space, and these are made all the more chilling when there are signs of previous habitation. I return again to, "There was a hole here, it's gone now". We know that someone had to be here to scrawl this message, but they and everyone else are long gone by the time we arrive in Silent Hill.
We know that this, that emptiness, is not the natural state of this space. We have entered into this space at a time when it is in an altered state, when it is not as it should be.
The familiar turned unfamiliar.
Accompanying all of this is Akira Yamaoka's phenomenal musical scoring. The soundtracks of the original three games remind of James Leyland Kirby's concept of "empty bliss". Mr. Kirby may be better know to some of you by his moniker The Caretaker, under which he produced and released his six-album series Everywhere at the End of Time, a musical exploration of dementia. If you are familiar with his work, you'll understand what I mean. If you aren't, I cannot recommend it enough.
Empty bliss, to me, is the end of a long struggle. It is the bittersweet goodbye at the end of an Alzheimer's patient's life. It is having imagined death so many times that you welcome it when it comes for you. It is the peaceful dark behind a corpse's eyelids.
It is heavy, and melancholy, and it echoes in what is left of your mind as you, at last, succumb.
Akira Yamaoka's music isn't something you dance to. There are some tracks, such as Theme of Laura, that are more thrilling, that might get your blood pumping, but most of Mr. Yamaoka's work on the SH franchise is subdued. Rather than using his music to keep the player's adrenaline high, he lulls us into a false sense of security with tracks like Forest, Promise, and Heaven's Night, before easing us into the ache of Ordinary Vanity and Magdalene.
Then, when it matters most, he gives us our well-earned Black Fairy.
I'm uncertain if he's returning to the franchise for its newest installments, but I certainly hope he is. If he is not, they'll be hard pressed to find another composer who understands empty bliss as well as him.
All of these concepts are difficult to pull off in any piece of media, let alone a franchise as long-running and beloved as Silent Hill. The team has big shoes to fill. Rather than being able to make their own game, they must make something that fits into a preexisting series. They have to understand what made the original three popular if they want to succeed in adding to their legacy.
That's not easy, and I don't envy them.
However, looking at the trailer for Silent Hill f, I can see that the creative team has a very strong sense of style. That will certainly work in their favor.
What isn't going to work in their favor, I feel, is the change of setting. This is not Silent Hill. This appears to be a small Japanese village being consumed by fungus, and Silent Hill is an American town that is home to a homicidal cult and an army of horrific monsters that may or may not be real.
The setting may be good, the game may be good, but already, it doesn't feel like a Silent Hill game. It feels like a completely unrelated horror game that they slapped the Silent Hill name on for clout.
Later installments in the franchise also left Silent Hill and tended to suffer for it, but they at least took place in nearby towns. Silent Hill f takes place on the other side of the world. There is no way, that I can think of, for it to connect back to the lore and story of the franchise; at least, not in any meaningful way.
If the team keeps the monster design, liminality, and empty bliss of the original three, I feel that it will be a good game.
Will it be a Silent Hill game? Probably not.

How Magic Mushroom Substances Work To Improve Your Health
Magic mushrooms are a class of fungi with pungent organic compounds produced by a species of Clostridium mold. The pungency of these chemicals result from their alkaloids and acids. These fungi are most common in North America and Europe but now, they are starting to be found in parts of Asia and even Africa. They are found growing in decayed stems and leaves of the Convolvulus pluricaulis plant.
DescriptionPsilocybin-containing mushrooms, also called magic mushrooms or magic mushrooms, are an informal, polyphyllic group of fungi with pungent psilocin that produces psilocin, a highly toxic substance. Biologically generic mushrooms containing psilocin include Gymnopilus, Copelandia, Inocybe, Panaeolus and Psilocybe. Some other common and very toxic mushrooms are Agaricus, Anubias, Asparagus, Bells, Bachelor's Button, Botania, Candida, Chamomile, Chlorophyllum, Collodia, Cyperus, Fennel, Garlic, Horseradish, Licorice, Marjoram, Massage, Nettles, Parsley, Phenol, Rosemary, Sage, Shrub, Sunflower, Tangerine, Watercress, and Watermelon. Most fungi in this fungi family grow on trees. Magic mushrooms contain pungent compounds which act as powerful toxins.
Research suggests that fungi produce pungent compounds which activate a person's natural anxiety and sensory system, resulting in a "trip" (awakening) of his brain and nervous system. Some of the most popular psychoactive substances found in mushrooms are alkaloids, which contain tryptamines and dopamine; flavonoids, which are powerful antioxidants; and indole-3-carbinol, which are a powerful phytoalexenoid. Some research indicates that pungent substances found in mushrooms may have a beneficial effect on people suffering from Parkinson's disease, dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
However, many people are unaware that Psilocybe is not the only mushroom containing this substance. mushroom grow bags with pungent substances also exist. Mycoides is the main article mentioned in this article. It is a pungent substance produced by Mycoplasma pachyderma, the only species of molds that produce this chemical.
Some substances act as powerful antioxidants and protect cells from oxidative damage. The most famous one is beta carotene, a component of carrots. Magnesium, selenium and niacin are other substances that help protect cells against the damages caused by free radicals. All these substances act like antioxidants and can prevent the build up of AGEs or advanced glycation end-products. They also prevent DNA and protein damage. This is why they have been found to protect against cellular aging.
Tumblr media
Some studies have shown that ingestion of magic mushroom can increase your chances of living a longer and healthier life span. This is because the active ingredient of most mixtures of magic mushroom is psiloform. This substance is believed to be the main active ingredient of the "Psilocin" found in most mixtures of psilosans. This substance has been found to inhibit the formation of the free radicals that cause cellular aging. Moreover, it may also slow down the process of cell deterioration triggered by harmful toxins. This substance may help fight cancer, as well.
There is some evidence suggesting that psilocybine mushroom is beneficial in lowering the risk of cancers and other life threatening diseases. This is the main article of this series. In this series we will continue to talk about the benefits of mushroom extracts. Magic mushrooms are not only good for our bodies, but they are also highly beneficial for our consciousness. Magic mushrooms can give you the "Makes You Feel High" experience which is truly amazing.
In conclusion, the main article of this series explained what is Aztec magic mushroom. We discussed some basic information about mushrooms and about psilosans. We looked at the role of Aztec mushrooms in our health and in how to get "high". Lastly, we looked at some information about psiloform and mushrooms.
Today we will continue our exploration into the world of magic mushrooms. I have personally taken several ayahuasca analogs (psilocybin-containing mushrooms). Ayahuasca is the main "stage" of a spiritual journey. I believe that you can heal your relationship with life when you eat the right kinds of mushrooms. These mushrooms can provide a deep, chemical "trip" that will open your eyes to the true power of life.
Today I will conclude this series with a quick side note on psilocybin mushrooms. The main article talked about the "good medicine" qualities of psilocybin. What I am going to add now is a little bit more information about how these mushrooms work and why they are good medicine.
The primary, central question of how magic mushroom substances work has already been answered in this main article. I would like to add a side note about how mushrooms help alleviate or treat certain mental disorders. Magic mushroom substances act as great, natural trainers for new and existing mental disorders. Whether it is ADHD, alcoholism, depression, etc; mushrooms can help alleviate the symptoms.

Swamp Thing 1x06/1x07 Thoughts
Tumblr media
My goodness, the last two episodes have definitely been something else. Other posters have already offered their excellent perspectives, I just have so many thoughts that I needed to express. As such, this is very long because brevity is not my strong suit. As always, cutting due to spoilers for the current episode and possible future episodes.
Matt:
I love how this show explores its characters. One of my previous complaints was that Matt had very little depth beyond being a seemingly-nice police officer with a torch for Abby. But with the last two episodes, we were given a deeper look into his actions and frustrations and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Him being the one to kill Alec disappointed me-mostly because I didn’t want him to be a “bad” guy-but the reasoning for him doing so was at least understandable. Not excusable, of course, but basically continuing the appalling cycle of corruption that was started by his mother and Avery.
When it comes to the people we love, for some people, what’s “right” takes a backseat. I have no doubt that the only way Avery was able to force Matt’s hand was due to his blackmail material, in a direct contrast to him pulling Lucilia’s strings without much effort. Him being willing to murder Avery in episode seven basically showed how unwilling he was to remain someone for Avery to manipulate, but even that was completely turned on its head when Avery dropped the paternity bomb.
I wasn’t really shocked about Avery being his father, it was something that I had wondered about as we never really received any information pertaining to Lucilia’s husband and given her rather messy behavior, it certainly made sense. But poor Matt, I feel that the next episodes are going to have him spiraling really badly.
He “killed” an innocent person who later came back as a plant monster that might decide some revenge is in order once his memory returns. The man who manipulated him and his mother is actually his father…whom he also helped to murder. His whole identity is now in question, his relationship with his mother is in shambles and one of the people he cares about just up and left just like he was told she would.
I hope that we have more scenes with him and Liz. Marais has felt very tiny in the most recent episodes and it’s nice to another friendship depicted.
Lucilia:
Oh, Lucilia. I’d feel badly for her if most of the disasters in her life weren’t due to her own bad decisions. The fact that she never expected Avery to have blackmail fodder going back for years was unrealistic to me until I gave it a bit more thought. She isn’t a good person and neither is Avery, but she somehow assumed that his feelings for her made her immune to his perpetual need to control and manipulate everyone in his life.
It reminded me a lot of a scene from the end of Kill Bill: Volume 2 between Bill and Beatrix when she mentions how shocked she was at what he did. She was well aware of-and even comfortable with-the terrible things he was capable of, but the possibility that he would do any of those terrible things to her never entered her mind. Lucilia was exactly the same and it seems like an incredibly naive mindset until you consider how some people are.
She did awful things for Avery for money while deluding herself that it was to protect Matt. I’d bet that if Matt had expressed interest in transferring to other locations prior to episode six, she probably guilt tripped him about leaving her and all she did for him until he dropped it. Her keeping his paternity to herself may have been about “protecting” him from Avery’s influence, but it was also about keeping him to herself-as is sole influence-as well. It’s not that she doesn’t love her son, but she’s so possessive of him to an unhealthy level. I wasn’t all of the nefarious things she did for Avery that pushed her to kill him, but the fact that he involved Matt in a murder and completely shattered his perception of her as his mother. And as Avery said, she doesn’t forgive or forget.
Maria:
She was definitely one of the highlights of episode seven for me. Seeing her in control and getting things done was wonderful and while I’m assuming helping with the Avery murder plot is going to come back to bite her, I’m glad that she was able to deal with Lucilia despite their obvious issues in order to achieve her goals.
While I still believe “Shawna” is inside her somewhere, I’d also like to think the experience in the swamp and finally receiving medication might have snapped her out of her fog of despair. There is nothing wrong with receiving help when you need it and while Maria is terrible to Abby, I genuinely believe she would feel badly about possibly putting Susie in danger with her shenanigans.
Thankfully Avery won’t be around for a little while with his patented “Abby is stirring up all these bad feelings,” gaslighting speeches.
Avery:
He is really going all out to win the title as the most monstrous person in the series. The scene with him and Abby in episode six made me so tense and uncomfortable because it was such classic emotionally abusive behavior. How dare she accuse him of things he (most likely) did! She had nothing before him, she owes him! As though he isn’t a murderous scumbag. As though he doesn’t talk out both sides of his mouth playing on Maria’s grief and Abby’s affections.
It’s mostly my headcanon, but I think he was probably closer to Abby than Shawna growing up, as they had the deaths of their parents to bond over. Shawna was born into money and Abby wasn’t, so anything he did for her she was immensely appreciative of. She was also probably so afraid of being abandoned that she did everything possible to be the “good” daughter, in contrast to Shawna’s more rebellious personality.
She loved and respected Avery until Shawna’s death, which is probably when his mask briefly slipped and she saw the rotten person he truly was. But because she was just a teenager, she rationalized it as being the effects of Shawna’s death and all her fault. But after returning to Marais, Abby is able to see more and more of the despicable person Avery truly is and that infuriated him. He has nothing to hold over her aside from Shawna’s death, nothing to control her with and while I’d like to think he wouldn’t hurt her…his behavior towards Lucilia in the swamp-a woman’s he’s been with for thirty odd years-shows that doesn’t really value anyone.
Everyone is disposable in his eyes.
I wonder what led him to become such an atrocious person. We constantly hear about the “swamp taking his father,” but the flashback we were shown doesn’t really depict a sadistic child that would become a villain. It could simply be the typical story of a man desperate to rise about his station became consumed by his greed and corrupted by his ambitions, but I hope there is a little more to it than that.
I’m both curious and afraid of what’s going to happen next with him. I enjoyed how his rise from the swamp was a mirror of Alec’s, but with more violence. If he is an Avatar of the Rot, it’s going to make things very interesting in the remaining episodes.
Woodrue:
I’ll just state the obvious that what he did to Cassidy was beyond unethical and potentially remarkably insipid. Alec faked scientific results, and he’s a scientist by loose definition in his eyes, yet he engages in unsanctioned human testing and that’s completely acceptable. Avery really does poison all the people he touches, though his own ambition and his desire to help Caroline probably would have led him down the same road.
I loved that Caroline called him out on his behavior and just how amoral his actions were and how her quick thinking kept Cassidy from being shot. It was painful to witness the change in her towards the end of this episode and sadly I’m sure her situation is only going to get worse. Either Woodrue will inject her with the formula to prevent her Alzheimers from progressing or he’ll inject himself as another test subject and things will fall apart from there.
Abby:
As I stated in one of my notes, I love her but her lack of self-preservation is crazy. She has this incredible need to fix situations and yet makes choices that are incredibly impetuous and could make them worse. I truly wish that we knew more of her background, but one could assume her mother dying and then Shawna dying both contributed to her unhealthy fixation with trying to save everyone and control the situation. She couldn’t help her mother, she caused Shawna to die-but in actuality was just unable to save her from an unseen force-and now she has Alec to focus on and feels as though she’s failing him as well.
With some people, I would say it’s based on a desire for praise or to be a martyr, but with her I think it’s just an effect of having so many unresolved issues and so much guilt. As though saving as many people possible will somehow help her “atone” for those she couldn’t. She wants to save Alec because she cares about him, but also because the situation he’s in could be incredibly dangerous. Two hunters came for him, the next time it could be a team to capture him for study or dissection.
It’s thoughtful of her, but then she has this remarkable reckless streak that almost got her killed several times. Lucilia could have shot her, she could have died from the darkness, she could have died from the Rot. She was incredibly lucky in the first instance and fortunate that Alec was present in the last two. While the end of episode seven was heartbreaking, it was completely reasonable for Alec to tell her to leave. While her intentions have been good, her behavior has been irrational and eventually her luck will run out.
I’m curious as to whether or not the show is involving Abby’s New 52 origin and if the tendril from the Rot will awaken something within her. We’ve already seen (the person I assume) is Anton Arcane, so it might not be such a far stretch.
Abby’s scenes with Alec were just so perfect and it made me so happy as a shipper. All of the touches and her kissing him were lovely. But her crying as she drove away from him in her boat broke my heart. Hopefully her time in Atlanta will give her some time to reflect on things. And with luck we’ll see Harlan again and find out what-if any-consequences have arisen due to her absence.
Alec:
Although I’m almost one hundred percent certain that they’re going with Alan Moore’s interpretation of Swamp Thing, I’ll still refer to him as Alec for now.
Episode six was a particularly painful one for him, as he got to experience the joys of being trapped, shot and hunted like an animal. His anger was justified and while his response was a bit much-I winced at the bark spikes to the face-he doesn’t quite have full control or knowledge of his capabilities yet. He was also completely aware of the danger that people poking around the swamp would pose for him. He is a scientific find of the century and there would be no shortage of people wanting a piece of him. There was also the Matt aspect later in the episode as well. What he did to him was inexcusable, but I really hope Alec doesn’t kill him in recompense.
The near-end of the episode was lovely and definitely understandable. It’s frightening, but sometimes you need to move away from the person you were in order to grow and gain a better comprehension of yourself.
Then the last scene occurred and I may have freaked out a tiny bit.
It was wonderful having Andy Bean back as Alec Holland for episode seven. I love the way that Derek Mears portrays Swamp Thing, he’s so incredible emotive despite the costume and the makeup, but I also love how Andy Bean portrays Alec as well. They have distinct personalities, Alec being affable and charming, while Swamp Thing is more solemn and otherworldly-for obvious reasons. Having Human!Alec back was bittersweet and it was nice that they were able to find a plot-relevant reason to do so. I still really hope we get some more flashbacks to his life prior to Marais, but that may sadly be just a pipe dream.
This episode was definitely a turning point for Alec and his growing acceptance for his role as Avatar of the Green. As wonderful as it was to be the “charming man” he used to be, without his abilities, Abby would have died. Technically, he should have stopped her from getting too close to the Rot, but that might have broken the immersion of the hallucination. But the scene before they encountered the Rot was so beautiful and I’m glad the lighting wasn’t terrible for once. While parts of his new life are undoubtedly strange and a bit traumatizing, it was good to see Alec extolling the wonderous aspects as well.
The way the Green is portrayed is also interesting. We’ve seen the darker aspects with it lashing out in the first episode and it briefly forcing Alec to see those who perished in episode five, but it consciously trying to help him connect with Abby and to save her life was wonderful as well. It was also teaching him something of a lesson. If he even could go back to being human, he would be unable to do anything against the Rot or help anyone except in the traditional sense. Perhaps Abby is able to synthesize a formula to combat the Rot, but then it would have to be tested, approved, mass produced, distributed and analyzed.
Which would be remarkably useful, but would take valuable time that they don’t have. What Abby viewed as him giving up hope was more him coming to terms with his destiny and what that entails. Him asking Abby to leave was so painful to watch, but with something so powerful and ancient intent upon destroying everything, allowing her to remain in harm’s way would have been selfish on his part.
But all the longing looks and the touches throughout the episode nearly killed me. As Swamp Thing he’s been so reluctant to be close to Abby unless it was necessary and the fact that she kissed him-while seeing his human form-may have inadvertently made things a little worse. He can’t be that person again, despite Abby’s belief that he can be cured and despite his talk of accepting his destiny, he doesn’t view a relationship with her as a part of that.
He’s referred to himself as a “monster” and a “thing.” Despite the beauty in his existence and the knowledge of having a special purpose, he still is obviously bothered by his “transformation.” While Abby mentions a cure as something that will help him, which she undoubtedly believes, he probably interprets it as her being bothered by “what” he is and feels insecure about it. In terms of a future, he also can’t offer her much in way of traditional things. Which begs the question of Abby wanting a more normal relationship and him feeling as though she would be settling.
It’s such a delightful tangle of emotions that we’ll have only three episodes to figure out.

You started the car engine just as Steve closed the door. Both of you secured yourselves with the seatbelt simultaneously and then you locked eyes just as you were looking up from where the seatbelt’s buckles were. You cleared your throat and then turned to the steering wheel and focused on the road. It was silent for about five minutes when Steve finally spoke up first.
“Where are you taking me?” He asked.
“To see (Y/N) (Y/L/N),” you said, saying your complete name as if it belonged to someone else––of course you had no choice but to pretend like it did belong to someone else.
“You mean she’s here in New York?” Steve asked again, angling his body towards you a little bit.
“Mhm,” you simply nodded. “Brooklyn, to be exact,” she said.
Steve let out a small sigh and a look of a mixture of feelings that were not positive and you glanced to him a little bit before focusing back on the road. “Everything okay?” You asked.
“Yeah...I just...I haven’t been back there,” he admitted as he looked out the window to the view of Manhattan.
“Oh...” you murmured quietly. “It’s okay that we’re going there, right?” You asked.
“Yeah, of course!” He said to you with a nod before turning back to the window to enjoy the view and maybe try to comprehend how so many things have changed so quickly––well, for him, anyway.
Steve was startled by the sound of a familiar music that played suddenly in the car, turning to you as he spotted you with one hand on the steering wheel and the other adjusting the volume to the car’s stereo.
“I thought you might like something from your time while you...reminisce,” you said as you gestured to what he was doing. You were only halfway to Brooklyn and everything was already very awkward on the road that you dreaded this impulsive little road trip back to your hometown. If you were being completely honest, this was the only music you would listen to in your car––a small piece to remind you of the time when you were most happy.
Although you are happy now, you had to admit that it gets a little bit lonely. You had to move all the time and it meant that you would never be able to have long-term friendships, and you only had a younger brother who was in the retirement home suffering from Alzheimer’s; of course, you admitted to be his granddaughter and people assumed that because of his Alzheimer’s, he often mistook you for his sister, when in reality you were probably his most vivid memory.
Steve smiled, trying to be polite about the gesture. “Thanks,” he said.
You were arriving in Brooklyn, Steve became a little bit more tense in his seat as he looked at the streets and disappointedly not recognize anything. You, on the other hand, had gotten used to the changes in the borough––but of course you also had a hard time accepting that the Brooklyn you knew was now gone.
Instead of heading towards a lovely neighborhood or a retirement home like Steve had expected, you turned at an intersection and from where your car was, the high gates of the cemetery was already visible. Steve sucked in a breath and you gripped your steering wheel tighter.
This was a lie you had hoped to never use again, but Steve was coming on to you and you had no other choice but to use the final hand in your card to throw him off the scent.
Steve looked at you and you could feel your jaw tighten as you dared yourself to look at him. You expected him to be angry or something for not letting him know sooner and for having put his hopes up about actually meeting you in person.
“Let’s stop to buy some flowers,” he just said.
“Sure,” you responded as you pulled over to the flower shop nearby. Steve got out of the car and went into the flower shop as you waited.
When Steve stepped back into the car, he was carrying with him a bouquet of sunflowers, and your breath was caught in your throat. He remembered. Of course he did.
You had always been a clumsy girl; everybody knew that. Somehow you would always manage to get a bruise somewhere. But this time, instead of a bruise you had sprained your ankle as you got out of the ice cream parlor with Bucky and Steve. You were laughing at one of Bucky’s jokes, not seeing that you were supposed to step down a small step and instead you stumbled down before any of the boys could catch you.
Bucky, being the one with the strongest physique out of the three of you, offered to immediately piggy-back you all the way home while Steve carried your belongings for you. He crouched down and put both hands on the underside of your thighs. The mischievous teenager made a grunting and groaning sound as he lifted you up.
“You sure weigh way more than you look,” he said, pretending to be overwhelmed by your weight even though it was actually nothing to him.
“Bucky!” You exclaimed, slapping your wrist on his shoulder and causing both Bucky and Steve to laugh.
Bucky started to walk and you wrapped your arms around his neck, and the whole way home both boys joked about how clumsy you were; well, it was more like Bucky teasing and Steve just laughing along while you kept on pouting and scolding them.
“Heavy, angry, and clumsy. You sure are a handful, doll,” Bucky teased you again, rounding the corner and approaching your house just four houses away.
Steve was about to laugh again when you pointed a stern finger at him. “Steven Grant Rogers, don’t you dare laugh,” The blonde man instantly went quiet and you put a hand over Bucky’s mouth. “James Buchanan Barnes, you are hereby banned from ever speaking or teasing me again.”
“Is that how you thank the man who carried you three blocks home?” Bucky asked, his voice muffled by your hand.
“It is when he also makes fun of you the entire way,” you jutted your tongue out, and this time it was his turn to be laughed at by Steve.
Your mother, who was preparing for dinner, was incredibly thankful for both Steve and Bucky’s help to carry you home that she invited both of them over for dinner and kept on adding more to their plate.
Both Bucky and Steve promised to keep you company until your ankle healed. But of course, only Steve truly followed through because the next day Bucky wanted to go watch the theater with a girl he liked, the same one he had been pursuing for a while.
“How did you know I like sunflowers?” You asked as Steve offered you a stem of a bright yellow sunflower in bloom.
“It’s not that hard to guess,” he shrugged and you raised an eyebrow, demanding an explanation. “You have many dresses with sunflowers on them. And you have one of those hairpins with sunflowers on it too. And remember that time when you went to the school dance with a sunflower in your ponytail?” Steve pointed out and laughed, which prompted you to laugh too.
“I guess I haven’t been too subtle about that,” you said.
“Why sunflowers?” You pretended to ask.
“It’s her favorite,” Steve answered. “She used to wear sunflower-anything everywhere,” he added.
You nodded along, wanting to interject that you did not wear sunflower decorated items everywhere and he was exaggerating, but of course you did not.
You drove into the cemetery and parked your car right in the area where your fake grave was; and you walked with him past a few graves to reach it. You stopped in front of the grave that had your name on it.
In loving memory of (Y/N) (Y/L/N) 1 January 1920 - 25 October 1990 beloved daughter, sister, friend, and a sunflower who always blooms even without the sun.
Seeing it gave you chills every time, but you knew it had to be done. This grave was your younger brother’s idea just as you were about to leave for Europe. You had been moving from city to city and state to state that when you were about to leave to Europe for good, your brother decided that this was best to keep people from asking questions. Only your core family knew about your condition, and the rest of your friends and distant family were led to believe that you passed away in San Francisco, the last city you resided in. There was no open casket ceremony to prove that there was no body inside the casket.
Steve crouched next to your headstone and placed the sunflower bouquet right on the center of the grave just below the headstone. He stayed like that but you could hear him stifle a sob and just as he stood up he kissed his two fingers and then pressed them on the headstone. He stood up and wiped his eyes a little bit, but the gesture seemed like something just got in his eye.
“Should we go?” You asked and he nodded and the two of you turned around and retreated back to your car. Just as you were walking further on the grass, you stepped on a rock and slipped a little bit, but Steve was quick to catch you by the waist, holding you close to his side.
“Careful,” he said.
You looked into his mesmerizing eyes once more after avoiding it the whole trip to Brooklyn and chuckled a little bit as you straightened yourself up and tucked your hair behind your ear. “Thank you,” you managed to let out; then he let go of you and continued to walk, him keeping a closer eye on you until you reached your car.
You were about to drive heading back to Manhattan when Steve stood up straight and pointed at a building. “Hey, that’s Tom’s Restaurant,” he pointed out. “That has been here since like the 30s,” he smirked.
You chuckled, knowing that diner all too well. You had your twelfth birthday there, of course you invited Steve and Bucky there too.
“How about a nostalgic dinner then?” You offered, pulling over to park the car, noting that it was almost dinner time anyway and you suspected that Steve was going to ask you a lot of questions.
Steve smiled, you could see that his sadness evaporate as the two of you stepped out of the car towards the diner.

Slight sympathy for Alexander Burgess
Before I begin, let us make one thing perfectly clear.  Alexander Burgess was an asshole-character.  I won’t pretend that he wasn’t.  He did some terrible things and I won’t try to justify them.  I can’t justify them.  But for a little while there’s been a nagging sense of pity for him in the back of my mind and I’m going to try to explain it.
Tumblr media
First, Alexander inherited the world’s worst house pet...
Anyone familiar with Neil Gaiman’s Sandman knows that Alexander was little more than a boy when his father, Roderick Burgess, and his coven of occultists (the Order of Ancient Mysteries) summoned and captured Morpheus.  They kept the captive dream lord in a crystalline (likely clear quartz for it’s mystical properties along with the symbolism of sand being burned = glass) prison surrounded by a binding circle.
When Roderick passed away, The Order of Ancient Mysteries, and Roderick’s prisoner, both passed into the hands of his son, Alexander.
Alexander Burgess inherited Morpheus from his father.   And here he makes something of a sort of (though arguable) valid point when discussing the matter with his lover, Paul.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This panel made me wonder who the Hell was he going to leave Morpheus with in the end?  He obviously didn’t plan to free him.  Who would he leave his prisoner to?  Paul?  Would he have subjected his own lover to this burden?  Alexander had no children that I know of.  Would he have sold Morpheus on the magical equivalent of Ebay? “For sale: One slightly used Sandman.  Crystal display case included.”
Now the right thing to do- the honorable thing, would have been to release the prisoner as soon as he was able to do so, but I do understand that Alex was scared of what Morpheus might do in retaliation for his years of captivity.  Morpheus was not exactly the kindest of souls at this point in his character development and he might have sought revenge even if he was released.  But, again, it would have been the right thing to do.
Morpheus was not only summoned and captured but he was stripped of his property and dignity.  He was dehumanized.  They didn’t even allow him clothes, blanket, or even consider that he might want food.  You see a similar dehumanization with the capture and imprisonment of Calliope later in the series by different characters.
Despite the potential consequences that come with freeing Morpheus, the degradation and dehumanization perpetuated by Alexander could not be justified.  But his fear of what Morpheus would do IS understandable.
Speculatively, if Alex had shown a little human compassion, who knows how differently things could have turned out.   Yes, he might have still suffered, might still have been cruelly punished by Morpheus in revenge, but it might not have been for as long.
Perhaps it could have helped instigate Morpheus’ own character growth a little faster if he was somehow provoked into showing mercy.  It’s an entire scenario of unexplored “what might have been” that has never been touched upon really.
Alexander Burgess spent his entire life living in his father’s shadow.  Through his childhood and early adulthood, Alexander always tried to please the man who was very obviously not much of a father to begin with.
Tumblr media
Everything he did was in an effort to please him.
Tumblr media
There was also the problem with Alex’s offer to Morpheus...
Tumblr media
Alexander tried to make the same offer his father did.  Poor bastard was still living in his father’s shadow even long after his death.  If he had left power and immortality off the table he might have stood a chance.  It’s not a likely chance considering Morpheus’ state of mind at that point but it would have been a better chance than what he gave himself.
Alex even started to resemble Roderick, which probably didn’t help matters when Morpheus decided to take his revenge.
Tumblr media
Note the resemblance.
Tumblr media
Paul,- who, let’s face it- doesn’t seem very bright (A bit of a bimbo), and was far too complacent in all of this, laments “the sins of the father” as if his lover is guiltless though Alexander did carry on with the imprisonment and cruelty that his father started, and Paul, himself, had been compalcement in all of it.  It’s actually amazing that Paul was spared punishment as the significant other of Morpheus’ captor, who knew about it, and made no move to change it.   But then again, perhaps seeing his lover like that- trapped in a dream from which he could not awaken- was punishment enough for poor Paul.
But Alexander definitely had father issues where he both resented and loved his father, wanted to emulate and yet defy him all at once. He resented the burden his father left him yet he also felt honor bound to defend his reputation even though deep down inside he knew what kind of man his father truly was.  Some part of him, the little boy within him, still wanting to win an aloof father’s approval yet he knew he was trapped in his father’s shadow and his life’s course probably did not feel like his own choosing.
Tumblr media
This one is more theory than solid fact but I think Alexander Burgess might have been phyiscally ill.  And not just old.  I think his desperation in the face of mortality was more than age creeping in.   Here are the clues.
First we see him showing fatigue, a tiredness when his younger lover, Paul, asks him if he fancies a game of tennis.
Tumblr media
Later we learn that his tiredness is apparently tied to a chronic case of insomnia he has had for years.
Tumblr media
The second clue that something may be wrong with Alexander is that as he ages his mobility becomes more and more limited.  There are a number of conditions that can cause this, mind you.   But first fatigue, followed by needing a cane...
Tumblr media
And then ultimately needing a wheelchair.
Tumblr media
Now, here it looks like senility is setting in but...  there’s more.
When he’s in The dreaming he has full cognition.
Tumblr media
Granted, that could easily be because he is in his soul-self (separate from the deteriorating tissue of his own brain) but there could be another reason.
Tiredness, fatigue, eyesight deterioration (note the glasses), the slow loss of muscular control, and cognition problems.  I think Alexander Burgess might have had a degenerative neurological condition, not necessarily related to age.   I’m not a doctor and Alexander isn’t real so diagnosis is pure guess but it could be anything from Parkinson’s Disease, to Multiple sclerosis.
The reason I don’t think it’s textbook age combined with senility is the fact that he seemed to be deteriorating for so long.  That and if it was Alzheimer's he suffered from than his brain and body would have deteriorated to the point of death during the long coma in which he was cursed to eternal waking.  There would not have been the happy wake up and reunion with Paul.
Now, I had figured “Eternal Waking” might mean his soul would remain trapped in that dream even when his body would eventually die.  But, as we learn in The Kindly Ones and The Wake, Alex’s body did not eventually die during the coma in those years (despite misinformation about that on the DC Wikia about Fawny Rig- Alexander’s house).
Had Morpheus’ curse also entailed eternal life for Alex’s body?   That seems pointless, if you ask me.  Morpheus already has his mind / soul trapped in The Dreaming.  Condemning the flesh is unnecessary.  The part he wants to torment is already in The Dreaming and can be kept there after death.
Not only did Alex not die, but his cognition actually seemed improved after he was freed from his curse.  So that makes Alzheimer’s even less likely as the condition would have gotten worse over time as he slept (Unless Daniel was kind enough to take care of that for him out of pity?)
Tumblr media
Though still needing his wheelchair, Alexander seems mentally improved when compared to the final night of Morpheus’ captivity.  During The Wake, you also see the first glimmer of remorse from Alexander for the things he has done.   He cared about being forgiven- he liked feeling forgiven.  That means he did not believe he was in the right or why would it matter to him?
I think part of the reason Alexander continued to use the same threats and bargaining tactics his father used on Morpheus might not have been pure greed but desperation if he knew he had a degenerative long-term condition.  And as it got worse so might have his desperation as age combined with worsening symptoms made him more and more aware of his own mortality.
As I said, I can’t justify Alexander Burgess’ behavior in Sandman but there are times when I do pity him.

How To Practice Mindfulness Meditation

How To Practice Mindfulness Meditation
Tumblr media
Dont Be Too Hard On Yourself When Your Mind Wanders Off During Practice Gently Bring Your Attention Back To The Present
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everyone’s mind is going to wander now and then while they are practicing mindfulness meditation. It is ok to recognize your passing thought and let it go. Once it is gone, take some deep breaths and reset your focus to be in your mindfulness practice.
This is just one mindfulness blueprint. As I said before, there are countless ways to practice mindfulness. For instance, you can add a bit of meditation, which we’ll cover next.
Putting It All Together: The Methods I Use To Practice Mindfulness In Everyday Life
Untill now I’ve basically repeated the same simple message in multiple ways: try to be mindful in every moment. Because of the hard-to-grasp nature of spiritual teachings, I hoped that by sourcing different teachers and examples there would be a higher likelihood that the information would connect with you.
But as is often the case with spiritual advice, we may think that by accumulating more of it, we will progress further. But insight is actually not something that is accumulated from the outside world. Wisdom comes from the seeing, with awakened knowing, of mind, impermanence, suffering, self.
If we take the advice in this article seriously, we could potentially attain enlightenment, or at the very least experience life-changing benefits. But, unfortunately, most of us will not, mainly because we confuse information with insight. If, after reading this article, you switch to the next spirituality blog post or book to accumulate more information on spirituality, you are missing the point of the Buddha’s teaching.
The lesson is simple: “Whether walking, standing, or sitting; whether resting or awake; whether talking or silent, he or she acts with full attention.” You need nothing other than an internal commitment and discipline to practice this teaching, and that also includes the discipline to stick with the same thing — the practice of paying attention and waking up from distraction in an endless series of beginnings — over and over again for the rest of your life.
How To Practice Mindfulness Of Breathing: The Salt And Pepper Of Daily Life
Student of the Dalai Lama and renowned meditation practitioner B. Alan Wallace, Ph.D., wrote in his masterpiece :
Cognitive imbalances of both types can be remedied by applying to daily life the attention skills we cultivate during meditation. In fact, if we casually let our minds succumb to excitation and laxity throughout the day, there’s little change that our formal training during…is going to have much effect. This would be like eating a wholesome breakfast, then snacking on junk food for the rest of the day.
However busy we may be, or think we are, no one is paying us enough to have demands on our minds every single moment of the day. Even in the midst of work, we can take off fifteen-seconds here and sixty-seconds there to balance the attention by quietly focusing on the breath. Our eyes can be open, and we can sit quietly for a few moments, without calling attention to ourselves. We can do this in the workplace, while standing in line at the grocery store, or while waiting at a stoplight. There are many brief occasions from the time we get up in the morning until we fall asleep at night when we can “season our day” with a sprinkling of mindfulness of breathing. And each time we do it, we may immediately feel the soothing effect on our bodies and minds. In this way, we can begin to integrate the quality of awareness that we cultivate during meditation with the awareness that we bring to our activities in the world throughout the day.
Mindfulness Enhances The Ability To Deal With And Recover From Illness
When you think of mindfulness or meditation, you probably think of a quiet, private time of peace. On the other hand, when you think of hospitals or doctors’ offices, you probably think about the anxiety, pain, and chaos going on around you. So, how can mindfulness have a place in health care?
The eCALM trial is a therapy program for cancer patients. It found that mindfulness can reduce the physical symptoms of stress, decrease one’s emotional reactivity to negative experiences, and facilitate post-traumatic growth while enhancing energy and relieving fatigue.
Additionally, found that mindfulness meditation has also been found to decrease anxiety and foster post-traumatic mental and emotional growth in breast cancer survivors, as well as increasing energy and spirituality.
Mindfulness Helps Lower The Incidence Of Burnout And Turnover At Work
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Early reports of job burnout came to light in the 1970s and were mostly focused on people who were working in health care or human services. While there is a growing body of research on job burnout, there is no widely agreed-upon definition. However, job burnout is essentially one’s inability to properly respond to chronic occupational stress, with the experience of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a low rate of personal achievement.
Job burnout can manifest as depression, aggression, decreased commitment, decreased cognitive performance, and decreased motivation. This phenomenon has been associated with an increased risk of physical and mental health problems such as increased blood pressure, heart disease, anxiety, and depression.
found that there is an inverse relationship between mindfulness and job turnover intention, suggesting that employees who are trained in mindfulness are less likely to leave their jobs for any reason.
So those are the 20 benefits of mindfulness. Did any stand out as positives that you want to experience?
Now let’s move on to the history of mindfulness, and then we’ll dive into how to practice mindfulness throughout the day.
Mindfulness Slows Down The Progression Of Neurodegenerative Diseases
Researchers have found that positive brain changes that are associated with mindfulness meditation may work to slow the progression of age-related cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
Patients suffering from Alzheimer’s who participated in the study showed a lower rate of cognitive decline after the eight-week mindfulness-based stress reduction program than a control group who did not participate in the program.
Dont Think About The Past Dont Plan The Future Dont Look At The Time
You know you can’t change the past. So why can’t you let it go? Stop thinking about things that have already happened. Additionally, the future is not here yet, so there is no need to focus too intently on that either. The future will come to you soon enough. Focus instead on the present moment without worrying about what time it is, or when you have to be somewhere next. Don’t worry about how much time you allow to pass before getting up.
There Are Plenty Of Ways To Practice Mindfulness Here Are 13 Of Them
Mindfulness can be tricky at first. Our minds are used to wandering, and we will often be tempted to fix on a thought or a feeling, judge it as good or bad, or work hard to analyse or change it. Sometimes this will be useful, but we also need to be able to sit with our experience and be fully in the moment, without being dragged away by thoughts or feelings that might do damage if they hold on for too long. The truth is, the only place we can fully be is here and now. Of course, it is important to plan for the future or reflect on the past, but it’s about balance.
If you haven’t practised mindfulness before, try to replace any judgement you might have about whether or not you’re doing it properly, with acknowledgement that you are doing the very best you can in the moment. What’s important is that you are doing it. The rest will come with practice. The more you practice mindfulness, the easier it will become to stay present and focus your attention on where you want it, rather than on wherever your mind might take you.
Remember also that mindfulness is dose-related. The more you do it, the more you will benefit from it. The most important thing is to start, and to work towards a regular practice of at least twenty minutes each day. If twenty minutes is difficult to find, and sometimes it can be, try for two ten minute sessions. Here are some different ways to practice mindfulness:
Mindful eating.
Learning To Stay In The Present Moment Will Be A Lifelong Intention
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Are you ready to try the practice of mindfulness for yourself? It’s easier to begin than you think.
For starters, remember that everyone has the capacity to change, learn, and grow — no matter what your goals are. Whether you start tomorrow, next week, or right now, the only thing potentially holding you back is yourself and the limitations you create.
Also remember, that if you start a mindfulness practice and you don’t feel anything right away, that’s normal. Mindfulness practice is not like taking a pill. It’s not black and white, and you won’t suddenly become a brand-new person when you start to live more in the present. Instead, you must be patient, trust the process, and keep returning to the practice. Over time, you’ll begin to see small changes at first,  then bigger and bigger ones in your life as a whole. The good news is that these changes will only be positive. There are no downsides to mindfulness practice.
In addition,  there’s no mindfulness. It’s not something like graduating from college or buying a house. You can’t finish or win mindfulness. However, you can give away mindful gifts to those you feel need some mindfulness in their life.
Wherever you go, there you are? Jon Kabat-Zinn
Fun Mindfulness Interventions Techniques And Worksheets For Adults
There are several ways to engage in mindfulness on an individual level, including worksheets, techniques, and different exercises.
If the idea of participating in group mindfulness exercises is anxiety-provoking or stressful for yourself or your clients, then diving into mindfulness practice alone can be the best way to proceed.
Here are six exercises that can help to build mindfulness in different ways.
Integrating Mindfulness Into Daily Life: Its Easier Than You Think
If you are interested in integrating mindfulness into your everyday life and becoming more mindful in every aspect of your life, the good news is that it’s easier than you think!
In fact, you can teach yourself to be mindful all day, every day if you like. Mindfulness is the practice in Buddhist teaching — essentially everything is mindfulness. The simple goal is to focus on the task at hand with mindful awareness. No matter the task, you stay fully aware and focused. Your attention is entirely on whatever you are doing — whether it’s folding laundry, cooking, playing with your children, working on a report for school, or just taking a walk.
Items you can introduce into your daily life to improve mindfulness includes:
Wijdverbreide Fouten Gemaakt In Een Meditatie Zijn Van Toepassing

How Long And How Often Should You Practice Mindfulness Meditation
You can practice mindfulness meditation for as long or as often as you like. However, 15 minutes a day, a few times per week, is a good start for a beginner. Then you can work your way up to an hour each time, which is when you can reap the most benefits, says Britt Gustafson, a mindful life coach who teaches mindfulness meditation through .
You can practice mindfulness meditation at any point in the day, but it might be helpful to do it at the same time each day to build a routine. For example, Gustafson says she likes to practice every morning before she gets out of bed.
“You’re kind of checking in with yourself and getting yourself aligned. I feel personally that that sets the tone of your day,” Gustafson says.
Some people like to meditate in the evening, in the transition between work and home, Dingle says. You can also reach for mindfulness meditation when you need it, such as before an important event, or when something goes wrong and you want to ground yourself, she says.
Frequently Asked Questions About Mindfulness Meditation Answered
When you’re new to meditation, it’s natural for questions to pop up often. These answers may ease your mind.
1) If I have an itch, can I scratch it? Yes—however, first try scratching it with your mind before using your fingers.
2) Should I breathe fast or slow or in between? Only worry if you’ve stopped breathing. Otherwise, you’re doing fine. Breath in whatever way feels comfortable to you.
3) Should my eyes be open or closed? No hard-and-fast rules. Try both. If open, not too wide, and with a soft, slightly downward gaze, not focusing on anything in particular. If closed, not too hard, and not imagining anything in particular in your mind’s eye.
4) Is it possible I’m someone who just CANNOT meditate? When you find yourself asking that question, your meditation has officially begun. Everyone wonders that. Notice it. Escort your attention back to your object of focus . When you’re lost and questioning again, come back to the breathe again. That’s the practice. There’s no limit to the number of times you can be distracted and come back to the breath. Meditating is not a race to perfection—It’s returning again and again to the breath.
5) Is it better to practice in a group or by myself? Both are great! It’s enormously supportive to meditate with others. And, practicing on your own builds discipline.
7) What if I get sexually . Repeat.
How To Practice Mindfulness In The Age Of Distraction: The Five
1) Timed reminders
Mindfulness reminders that are set up ahead of time on digital devices.
Phone alarms
According to B. Alan Wallace, seasoning the day with a few mindful breaths and body scans will go a long way to strengthening our flow of undistracted non-meditation. When I first read Wallace’s advice I tried it out, but would often forget to follow it. The paradox of practicing mindfulness is that we have to be mindful in the first place to practice it: the moment we realize we are distracted, we are not distracted.
I got around this dilemma by setting up mindfulness alarms on my phone. I downloaded an app called and set 20 alarms, 35 minutes apart.
I set the text to the following instruction:
Whenever I received this timed reminder on my phone, I would open the Calm app and do 1-2 minutes of breath meditation. You can experiment with different apps and use different meditation intervals and lengths. The most important thing is that you take the reminders seriously and follow them no matter where you are or what you’re doing. If you happen to be caught up with something quite engaging, you can at the very least take three deep breaths.
Pomodoro technique
2) Location-based reminders
Mindfulness reminders that are triggered by cues in your environment.
Here you want to link certain locations or landmarks with the act of waking up and paying attention. For example, every time you come to a red stop light while driving, you can take three conscious breaths .
Whats Different About Buddhist Mindfulness Meditation Anything
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The basis of mindfulness meditation, “Buddhist” or not, is non-judgmental awareness of what we are experiencing in the moment. Sitting and following the breath to keep the mind focused and aware is a very well-known mindfulness method.
What sets  mindfulness meditation apart is the importance of motivation and the development of insight or vipassana meditation. Buddhist motivation focuses on liberation from suffering and confusion, and the attainment of freedom. Buddhists generally take a moment before beginning their practice to recall their motivation and express their confidence in the sanity of their journey. After their session has ended, they reiterate their motivation and confidence. In their opening and closing prayers, many Buddhists give voice to their wish that meditation will give them tools to be better able to help others. For Buddhists, the qualities of compassion and discernment are very important and are usually included in these prayers, such as the Four Immeasurables or boundless thoughts. Naturally, you don’t have to be a Buddhist to appreciate the importance of these qualities.
Pay Attention To Your Thoughts Words Actions And Motivations
When you are thinking, saying, or doing something, what is the reason behind it? Are you telling someone a story to benefit them in some way, or is it just benefiting you or your ego? Think about the motivations behind everything you do before you do it to see if it is really necessary. Make sure that you are always coming from a good place when you choose to speak or act in any way.
Mindfulness Improves Memory Concentration And Performance
Paying attention and concentrating on the task at hand may be one of the most important cognitive abilities people have. Mindfulness is one of a very few methods that works as an antidote for mind-wandering and the negative effects that losing concentration may have on you. In fact, research on students has shown that there is a connection between mindfulness and paying attention both in and out of the classroom.
Studies have shown that meditating on a regular basis causes the brain’s cerebral cortex to thicken.
Mindfulness Meditation Reduces Implicit Age And Race Bias
has suggested that mindfulness can positively change the negative thoughts or associations that people once had. The impact of mindfulness has been studied in regards to several biases through measurements of implicit association tests. These tests found that people who listened to mindfulness meditation had an increased state of mindfulness and a decrease in their implicit biases.

Simple Ways To Practice Mindfulness In Our Daily Life MindfulnessPositive PsychologySelf-ConfidenceMonique Tallon
“Look past your thoughts, so you may drink the pure nectar of This Moment.”– Rumi
These days as we are all learning to adapt to a new normal of staying indoors, I’ve been personally finding it difficult to focus on what is going right with the world instead of what is going wrong. I find myself sometimes getting sucked into hours of scrolling through my social media feed to read the latest news or to feel more connected to friends and family. With all the unknowns of what the future holds, it’s easy to get stuck in negative feedback loops which ultimately breed stress in the body. And right now stress is the last thing we need if we want to boost our immune systems and keep a healthy mental state.
So in this blog post, I want to talk about how to train your brain through mindfulness practices to stay focused on the positive, lower stress, and keep yourself mentally healthy during this uncertain time we’re going through.
Dedicate Time And Space For Your Mindfulness Practice
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You want the space you choose for mindfulness practice to be quiet, calm, and soothing. You will also want to pick a time during which you are unlikely to be interrupted. Create a space in your house that is peaceful and allows you to just relax while practicing mindfulness. Don’t use this space for anything aside from meditating. This way, when you sit down, your body will be notified that it is time to calm down and practice mindfulness.
Final Note: Only Practicing Mindfulness Is Not Enough
Throughout this article, I have stressed the importance of not over-valuing the time spent during meditation and under-valuing the time spent in daily life. To be clear, this does not mean that meditation should not be practiced. Meditation is an incredibly powerful tool for cultivating wisdom and tranquility, in fact one of the most powerful tools we have.
If you remember earlier, I mentioned the three components of mind training . All three are of equal importance. In my mind, I compare the three components of mind training to living a healthy lifestyle: the approach would be to cut down on damaging lifestyle factors such as smoking and drinking, the practice would be going to the gym and exercising each day, and the integration would be eating a nutritious diet. To live the longest, healthiest life we can, all three components must be taken seriously.
Andy Puddicombe writes:
“Meditation is undoubtedly a vital cornerstone to the practice of mindfulness. To practice mindfulness in everyday life without doing even ten minutes of meditation a day is a bit like trying to build the foundations of a house on loose gravel. It will work, but it will not be anywhere near as stable as if you built it on solid ground.”
What You Need To Know Before Practicing Mindfulness:
You don’t need to buy anything. You can practice anywhere, there’s no need to go out and buy a special cushion or bench—all you need is to devote a little time and space to accessing your mindfulness skills every day.
There’s no way to quiet your mind. That’s not the goal here. There’s no bliss state or otherworldly communion. All you’re trying to do is pay attention to the present moment, without judgment. Sounds easy, right?
Your mind will wander. As you practice paying attention to what’s going on in your body and mind at the present moment, you’ll find that many thoughts arise. Your mind might drift to something that happened yesterday, meander to your to-do list—your mind will try to be anywhere but where you are. But the wandering mind isn’t something to fear, it’s part of human nature and it provides the magic moment for the essential piece of mindfulness practice—the piece that researchers believe leads to healthier, more agile brains: the moment when you recognize that your mind has wandered. Because if you can notice that your mind has wandered, then you can consciously bring it back to the present moment. The more you do this, the more likely you are to be able to do it again and again. And that beats walking around on autopilot any day .
How Meditation Protects The Aging Brain From Decline
A string of recent research suggests regular meditation practice may boost mental flexibility and focus, offering powerful protection against cognitive decline.
Most of us begin to misplace our keys, forget people’s names, or solve math problems less readily as we approach middle age. This is often referred to as age-related cognitive decline. Years ago, scientists believed that this decline was inevitable, but extraordinary research in the past two decades has shown that the adult brain changes with experience and training throughout the lifespan—a phenomenon known as neuroplasticity.
Neuroplasticity isn’t a given. Epidemiological research finds that how a brain ages depends on a number of factors including diet, physical exercise, lifestyle choices, and education. The healthier and more active one’s lifestyle, the more likely he or she will maintain cognitive performance over time. And meditation may be a key ingredient for ensuring brain health and maintaining good mental performance. Here’s what recent suggests about how mindfulness meditation practice may help keep aging brains fit and functional.
The Effectiveness Of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In one study, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy-Mindfulness .
What are the “What” skills?
This first set of skills is meant to help the client learn how to:
Simply observe their experience.
Describe their experience using a verbal label.
Be fully present in the moment and in their actions without feeling self-conscious.
These skills allow the client to be aware of what is happening to them and of their part in their own experience. Becoming aware of their own thoughts and grounded in the present forms the foundation for the next set of “how” skills.
How Do the “How” Skills Work?
The “how” skills relate to the goal of teaching clients how to observe, describe, and participate in their own experience. This set of skills is intended to help clients:
Learn to have experiences in a non-evaluative and non-judgmental manner.
Focus on one thing at a time and learn to bring their attention back to the target when they go off course.
Be effective, or keep their focus on their goals regardless of their current mood .
The clients were also taken through a series of other mindfulness interventions including mindful breathing, the body scan, and other simple awareness practices.
Individuals in this study who received DBTM training, in addition to the usual treatment, had enhanced benefits compared to the group who received only the usual psychiatric treatment: the more minutes an individual spent practicing mindfulness, the greater the improvements in psychiatric symptoms .
Practices For Improving Emotional And Physical Well
It’s a busy world. You fold the laundry while keeping one eye on the kids and another on the television. You plan your day while listening to the radio and commuting to work, and then plan your weekend. But in the rush to accomplish necessary tasks, you may find yourself losing your connection with the present moment—missing out on what you’re doing and how you’re feeling. Did you notice whether you felt well-rested this morning or that forsythia is in bloom along your route to work?
Mindfulness is the practice of purposely focusing your attention on the present moment—and accepting it without judgment. Mindfulness is now being examined scientifically and has been found to be a key element in stress reduction and overall happiness.
Mindfulness Activities For Groups And Group Therapy
Group therapy that incorporates mindfulness has shown some promising results. It is as effective as cognitive-behavioral therapy .
There is also evidence that group mindfulness meditation therapy is as effective as individual CBT . In a global climate with few clinical psychologists in relation to the need for them, and in a time when individual therapy time is limited and expensive, the proven efficacy of group-based therapy is great news.
Even if you do not feel a need to visit a therapist, there are mindfulness-focused groups that share and deepen meditation practice . Here are four exercises from such groups.
Mindfulness Helps Students Achieve Academic Success
Everyone knows that, in addition to academic success, people want our youth to be happy and physically well. All of these goals are connected, and we now realize the role that social and emotional well-being has in achieving academic success. Learning how to focus one’s attention on productive tasks, become more self-aware, stay motivated to keep going when work becomes difficult, and deal with the frustrations of learning and communicating with peers are vital skills that depend on a student’s ability to comprehend and manage their emotions.
Researchers have found that college students who learned the craft of mindfulness were able to perform better on the verbal reasoning section of the GRE, and experienced improvements in their working memory. While the emphasis on academic achievement is typically what is highlighted in debates on school reform, important movements are being made by people who take a more complete and holistic approach to education.
The Buddha And The Four Foundations Of Mindfulness
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Buddha — Siddhartha Gautama — called mindfulness “the path to enlightenment.” In order to spread the word of enlightenment, he asked that his senior monks teach a doctrine called The Four Foundations of Mindfulness. When the bhikkhus asked the Buddha which four foundations they were to teach, the Buddha responded4:
Dwell contemplating the body in the body, ardent, clearly comprehending, unified, with concentrated one-pointed mind, in order to know the body as it really is.
Dwell contemplating feeling in feelings … in order to know feelings as they really are.
Dwell contemplating mind in mind … in order to know mind as it really is.
Dwell contemplating dhamma* in dhammas … in order to know dhammas as they really are.
*By , the Buddha is referring to phenomena, or the total of one’s experience, including all mental events that arise within us from moment to moment.
Each of the Four Foundations of Mindfulness is generally to be seen as a of learning to be completely mindful in each and every moment. That is, the first stage is to focus on being mindful of the body. This is often done by simply focusing one’s attention on the breath. From there, the rest of the body is considered, including all sensations.
Notice Sights Sounds And Smells Without Judgement
Do you have a specific taste in your mouth or scent in your nose?  Where is the smell coming from? What do you hear? Is it the sound of a truck passing by? The wind wafting through tree branches? Are you talking to someone? Listen to what they are saying, but also think about the timbre of their voice. Look at their face, and notice their skin, the softness of their hair, and how their lips move when they speak. Notice each of these sensations without judgment.
Using The Body And Breath To Get Out Of Your Head
We often practice mindfulness in stillness. Here, Cara Bradley shares how mindful movement and breath awareness can help us shift away from stress.
Mental Health
Welcome to the first article in a new series from Cara Bradley where she will explore how we can use our breath and body to cultivate “mental fitness,” clarity, and calm.
Do you ever feel like a brain on a stick? You know that sensation of being stuck in your head, disconnected from what is happening below the neck? It’s not a comfortable or productive way to live, yet, it’s all too common. In this new series, we are going to take a journey below the neck and explore how paying attention to our body state can help us change our mental state. By refining our awareness of inner body signals, we’ll become more skilled at adjusting how we feel emotionally and mentally—sometimes in a matter of minutes.
Over the course of this series, we will cover body-based practices and protocols to:
1. Make quick mental-state shifts for when we need an on-the-spot solution.
2. Train our body and mind to feel stronger, calmer, and clearer for longer.
We’ll do this with  tools and practices for well-being that I call Mini-Wins and Cross-Training. This will help us get mentally fit.
How To Meditate: Simple Meditation For Beginners
This meditation exercise is an excellent introduction to meditation techniques.
Sit or lie comfortably. You may even want to invest in a meditation chair or .
Close your eyes. We recommend using one of our Cooling Eye Masks or Restorative Eye Pillows if lying down.
Make no effort to control the breath; simply breathe naturally.
Focus your attention on the breath and on how the body moves with each inhalation and exhalation. Notice the movement of your body as you breathe. Observe your chest, shoulders, rib cage, and belly. Simply focus your attention on your breath without controlling its pace or intensity. If your mind wanders, return your focus back to your breath.
Maintain this meditation practice for two to three minutes to start, and then try it for longer periods.

Mindfulness Reduces Rumination And Overthinking
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the most common symptoms that comes along with anxiety is rumination or overthinking. After you begin to worry about something, your brain will hold onto that tightly and make it difficult to let go. It is easy to get into a thought loop where you continue to replay each and every bad outcome imaginable. We all know this is not useful because worrying about something does not prevent it from happening.
actually showed that people who were new to mindfulness and began to practice it during a retreat were able to show fewer signs of rumination and anxiety than the control group.
More Ways To Be More Mindful In Your Daily Life
1. Learn to watch your mind wander.
Most people see their mind wandering as a bad thing. Daydreamers are considered foolish and unsuccessful. But the truth is that minds do wander, and it’s okay to let them. The key is to rein in your thoughts and teach your mind to notice when it wanders, before returning to the present moment. It’s a freeing experience.
2. Learn to be boring.
People often make the mistake of assuming that their lives need to be eternally and consistently exciting. This feeling is exacerbated by social media, in which we see all of our friends, family members, celebrities, and random other people enjoying exciting activities seemingly every day. FOMO or the fear of missing out is a phrase that refers to the sensation that if you’re not hang gliding, windsurfing, jetting off to Europe, or getting married, you’re not really living life.
This couldn’t be further from the truth. By learning to be boring, you are not accepting a boring lifestyle. You are not telling yourself not to enjoy a fulfilling life. Rather, you are seeing excitement and thrill in the brilliant moments of life. This is a wonderful way to exist.
3. Slow down.
This is a great reminder to write on Post-it notes and keep at your desk, on your refrigerator, or on your bathroom mirror. The two simple words, , help us to remember to take life one moment at a time. Everyone’s life is a journey. You cannot life. Simply take it moment by moment and learn to enjoy the ride.
Ways To Practice Mindfulness Without Meditating
Phrases like “this month flew by” or “where is the time going?” are becoming all too common these days, and they are absolutely linked to the lack of time we take to slow down and be mindful. Mindfulness is essentially the practice of paying attention, on purpose, to the present moment, without judgment. A simple definition for a simple practice; but don’t get the wrong idea, regular mindfulness practice can have some serious positive effects such as improved concentration, energy and sleep as well as increased overall life satisfaction and reduced anxiety.
Mindfulness is most commonly practiced through some form of meditation such as breathing focused activities, focusing on a mantra or guided imagery. However, mindfulness can also be practiced in a more casual way and yield the same benefits. Below are 8 ways to practice mindfulness without meditating.
1. Mindful walking- Mindful walking is an opportunity to focus on the present moment-your feet on the ground, the wind on your face, or the sounds you are hearing- without any judgment. When your mind wanders, simply notice that your mind has wandered and gently return your attention back to your walk.
2. Mindfulness in the shower- Being in the shower provides a strong opportunity to connect with your senses. Try focusing your attention on the smell of your shampoo, the lather of your body wash, or the temperature of the water. Connecting with our senses is a wonderful way to practice being mindful.
How To Practice Buddhist Mindfulness Meditation
To practice mindfulness meditation with a Buddhist slant, begin your session by taking a moment to recall why you’re meditating. What is your motivation? Think about what your goal is and how meditation can help you reach it. Connect with your compassionate, caring heart. Then sit in a posture that supports your practice and settle your mind on the rhythm and feel of your breath.
As you practice, your mind will be distracted by all sorts of ideas – what’s been done, what needs doing, and how you feel about all that. Great! Notice these thoughts and how they vie for your attention, then gently but firmly bring your mind back to the breath.
When you start meditating it often seems like you’re having more thoughts than ever. Don’t panic, and don’t try to stop these wandering thoughts. Just acknowledge their presence and let them come and go without pursuing them further. The goal is to become aware of whatever arises in the mind – whether “desirable” or not. Thoughts are always there, we’re just usually too busy to notice. Thanks to mindfulness, we learn that there’s a powerful alternative to distractedness: awareness. To develop awareness, we train in being present, a few minutes at a time.

Notice Thoughts And Emotions Without Judgement
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See your thoughts and emotions come and go without judging them. Remember that the goal of mindfulness is not to avoid thinking or feeling anything. You are not trying to cultivate an empty mind or complete clarity here. Your mind will wander, and you should expect that. Simply notice when it does, and tell yourself that it’s happening.
For example, if you find yourself ruminating about yesterday’s meeting with a client, you might say silently to yourself, “thinking about meeting” or “worrying about meeting.” Or, if you all of a sudden, become sad when you remember a fond memory, you might say silently to yourself, “feeling sad about X memory.” If you feel excited about a date you have in the evening, tell yourself, “feeling excited about tonight’s date.” After each of these nonjudgmental statements, return your focus to the breath and the current moment.
A Simple Mindfulness Practice For The Beginner
1. Do only one thing at a time.
2. Be deliberate and slow with your actions.
Don’t rush to get everything folded quickly. This activity is all that you’re doing right now, and it deserves your full attention. Take care with each motion and action. Line up the corners on the towels nicely. Organize your folding into neat stacks of like kinds of towels. Pick off lint and put it into a pile.
3. Enjoy the experience.
Take pleasure in what you’re doing. Are the towels warm and cozy from recently being in the dryer? Feel the warm fibers on your fingertips.  Hold them against your cheek. Smell the fresh scent of your laundry detergent. Enjoy stacking all of the towels in a neat and organized pile, all ready for your linen closet.
4. When your mind wanders , simply notice it without judgment, and bring it back to the task at hand.
You will inevitably begin to think about what you’re going to do later that evening, how you should probably buy new towels because they are getting old, or what you’d rather be doing other than folding towels. That’s okay! The goal here is, once again, to simply notice your mind wandering, tell yourself where your mind is wandering to , and bring your focus back to the current moment and what you’re doing: folding laundry.
Mindfulness Is Important How Do We Develop It
Find a mindfulness-based therapist
Cultivating mindfulness is the key to overcoming suffering and recognizing natural : both our own and others’. How do we go about it?
In the Buddhist tradition and in Contemplative Psychotherapy training, we nurture mindfulness through the practice of sitting meditation. There are many different kinds of meditation. For example, some are designed to help us relax; others are meant to produce altered states of consciousness.
Mindfulness meditation is unique in that it is not directed toward getting us to be different from how we already are. Instead, it helps us become aware of what is already true moment by moment. We could say that it teaches us how to be unconditionally present; that is, it helps us be present with whatever is happening, no matter what it is.
You may wonder what good that is. After all, don’t we want to suffer less? Aren’t we interested in tuning in to this natural wisdom, this brilliant sanity, that we’ve heard about? Aren’t those changes from how we already are?
Well, yes and no. On the one hand, suffering less and being more aware of our inherent wakefulness would be changes from how we experience ourselves right now, or at least most of the time. On the other hand, though, the way to uncover brilliant sanity and to alleviate suffering is by going more deeply into the present moment and into ourselves as we already are, not by trying to change what is already going on.

Common Mistakes Made In A Meditation Practice
Want to know the biggest mistake you’re making with your meditation practice? It’s how you’re about it. It’s likely your beliefs around meditation that are getting in the way, not the practice itself.
Think You’re Doing it Wrong?
You think you can’t do it.
You think it takes years of practice to receive any benefits from mindful meditation, or on the flip side, you meditated once and are frustrated you don’t see the benefits already. You think a successful meditation means you’re not having any thoughts. You think it’s just for yogis, airy fairy folks, and ancient philosophers. You think you don’t have enough time.
Here’s what I want you to know:
First and foremost, you do it wrong because there’s really no one way. In fact, as we mentioned earlier, there are hundreds of meditation practices and techniques. It’s about finding what works for you.
You don’t have to meditate every morning for 30 minutes. You can start with and work your way up. In fact, you could start with five mindful breaths. There, you just practiced mindful mediation! See? You can do it.
You will most likely have a multitude of thoughts while you’re meditating, and that doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.
You don’t have to dress up in flowy clothes, burn incense, and chant ‘OM’ if you don’t want to. But feel free to if that’s what you connect with. You can mediate at your desk, in your car — not while driving please — or on your hike.

Mindfulness Helps With Emotional Reactivity
Of all the reasons that people usually have for learning meditation, being less emotionally reactive is typically high on the list. Being mindful or “Zen” equates to rolling with the punches in life and being non-reactive to things that might come your way.
And there’s definitely something to this. Mindfulness meditation has allowed study participants to distance their emotions from upsetting pictures and focus more on a cognitive task, as compared with a control group.
Paso 2: Establecer Una Restriccin De Tiempo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tips To Practice Mindfulness In Daily Life
As you practice mindfulness meditation, it helps to find ways to bring mindfulness into your everyday life—especially on those days when life is too busy to carve out a minute alone. Mindfulness meditation is one technique, but everyday activities and tasks provide plenty of opportunities for mindfulness practice.
Brushing your teeth: Feel your feet on the floor, the brush in your hand, and your arm moving up and down.
Doing dishes: Savor the feeling of the warm water on your hands, the look of the bubbles, and the sounds of the pans clunking on the bottom of the sink.
Doing laundry: Pay attention to the smell of the clean clothes and the feel of the fabric. Add a focus element and count your breaths as you fold laundry.
: Turn off the radio—or put on something soothing, like classical music. Imagine your spine growing tall, find the half-way point between relaxing your hands and gripping the wheel too tightly. Whenever you notice your mind wandering, bring your attention back to where you and your car are in space.
Exercising: Instead of watching television while on the treadmill, try focusing on your breathing and where your feet are as you move.
Getting kids ready for bed: Get down to the same level as your kids, look in their eyes, listen more than you talk, and savor any snuggles. When you relax, they will too.
Mindfulness Meditation And Other Practices
Mindfulness can be cultivated through mindfulness meditation, a systematic method of focusing your attention. You can learn to meditate on your own, following instructions in books or on tape. However, you may benefit from the support of an instructor or group to answer questions and help you stay motivated. Look for someone using meditation in a way compatible with your beliefs and goals.
If you have a medical condition, you may prefer a medically oriented program that incorporates meditation. Ask your physician or hospital about local groups. Insurance companies increasingly cover the cost of meditation instruction.
Cultivating Mindfulness In Our Daily Lives
Since breaking our addiction to technology is a much bigger task , we need to build practices in our daily lives to bring ourselves back to what really matters. Although nothing beats a good mindfulness meditation it can sometimes be difficult to squeeze in a 20-30 minute meditation in our busy lives. Instead, we can build micro-practices throughout the day to focus our attention.
Introducing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy that is mainly used to treat individuals with borderline personality disorders.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is characterized by the following steps:
The first priority for DBT treatment is to target the life-threatening behaviors that often manifest in people with severe mental health problems;
Second, therapists aim to eliminate the behaviors that interfere with therapy, such as refusal to strive for the goals of DBT, missing sessions, etc.;
Next, DBT therapists aim to correct the behaviors that interfere with the client’s quality of life, including non-productive relationship behaviors, communication problems, and bad financial decision-making.
Mindfulness is a core skill taught in DBT, as it helps clients gain awareness of their own thoughts and feelings .

In this exercise, you begin by closing your eyes and listening for the cue. When you hear it, your aim is to focus your attention on the sound and continue your concentration until it fades completely. This exercise helps you to keep yourself firmly grounded in the present. You can use the audio below:
Mindfulness Promotes Cognitive Flexibility
One suggests that not only will mindfulness help people become less reactive, it also may give people more cognitive flexibility. People who practice mindfulness appear to be able to also practice self-observation, which automatically disengages the pathways created in the brain from prior learning, and allows information that is happening in the present moment to be understood in a new way.
Meditation also activates the part of the brain that is associated with adaptive responses to stress, which corresponds to a faster recovery to a baseline train of thought after being negatively impacted.
Mindfulness Reduces Feelings Of Loneliness
Being lonely is more than living in a silent house or having a lack of companionship. With time, loneliness can take a toll on the psyche and have a serious impact on one’s physical health as well.
Feelings of loneliness have been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety, depression, and even a shortened lifespan. This means that it is important to develop effective treatments for those who are living in isolation.
looked at 40 adults and found that meditating for half an hour each day for eight weeks reduced their feelings of loneliness.
What Are Other Ways To Develop Mindfulness
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You don’t need to do sitting meditation, there are practices for developing mindfulness in any body posture, such as standing or lying-down. Some people find the body scan meditation a useful way to cultivate embodied attention.
Sometimes you might find moving meditation particularly helpful for settling an active mind. Notice the sensations in your body as you walk—in your legs and feet, arms, chest, and head. As you notice these sensations of walking, you may find it easier to drop the tendency to worry, plan, or ruminate on something that just happened.
Notice Bodily Sensations Without Judgement
Notice how your body feels at the current moment. At what points is your body touching the ground or the chair you’re sitting in? Be aware of the sensation of the material you are sitting or standing on. How do your toes feel in your socks? How do your shoulders feel? Can you notice a rumble in your stomach? Feel the expansion of your abdomen as your lungs inhale. Notice each of these sensations without judgment.
How Meditation Encourages Neuroplasticity
To maintain mental acuity, it’s important to keep what researchers call your neural reserve in good working order. This “reserve” refers to your brain’s mental efficiency, capacity, or flexibility. Emerging evidence suggests that the consistent mental training that occurs in mindfulness meditation may help to keep that “reserve” intact. For example, one review of the evidence linked regular meditation with positive improvements in brain function such as heightened attention, awareness, working memory, and greater mental efficiency.
Studies are showing that daily meditation impacts both brain “states” and brain “networks.” Brain state training involves activating large-scale networks within the brain that affect a broad range of emotional and mental processes. A clever example of this can be found in a recent study published by a group of researchers at UCLA, who reported that experienced meditators have higher concentrations of tissue in brain regions most depleted by aging, suggesting that meditation practice may help to minimize brain age and protect against age-related decline.
Brain network training, on the other hand, is more focal in that it improves specific cognitive abilities by repeatedly activating a network associated with one function, like paying attention. This is equivalent to repetitive mental bicep curls. Both state and network training are believed to be important ingredients for keeping the brain sharp.
Ways To Combine Mindfulness And Gratitude
Mindfulness and gratitude are two tools that work well together. Mindfulness encourages us to focus on the present in a nonjudgmental way, and gratitude encourages us to appreciate things that bring us joy. To foster a habit of experiencing gratitude, we first need to perceive what we are grateful for. To do this, we need to make the time.
One way to combine mindfulness and gratitude is through gratitude journaling. Every day, spend a short period writing down a list of things you are grateful for. This list can include material things, people, thoughts, experiences, or anything else that you can think of.
When writing down the list, spend extra time explaining why you are grateful for that experience and how it made you feel. Do not go overboard – a short sentence will do – but aim to deepen your experience of how you perceived this event.
Another option is to incorporate active gratitude into your mindfulness exercises. For example, mindfulness can help us to perceive negative experiences in a nonjudgmental way.
We can take this experience one step further by incorporating a gratitude element. In a way, we are finding a silver lining in that experience. The intention is not to downplay your feelings of a negative experience; instead where possible, find opportunities for gratitude.

Mindful Walking Down The Street Technique
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One core process that can be influenced bymindfulness practice is our ability to observe our thoughts, emotions, and sensations without reacting to fix them, hide them, or solve them. This awareness creates room for choice between impulses, and action which can help develop coping skills and positive behavioral change.
In the first step of this intervention, the facilitator helps the client visualize a scenario in which they are walking down a familiar street when they look up and see someone they know on the other side of the street. They wave, however, the other person doesn’t respond and continues to walk right past.
In the second step, the facilitator prompts reflection from the client by asking a series of questions:
1. As you were imagining, did you notice any of your thoughts?2. As you were imagining, did you notice any of your emotions?
In the third and final step, the facilitator asks the client to reflect on the series of emotions and thoughts that came up, how this affects their behavior, whether the exercise was helpful, and for any final comments.
Mindfulness Creates Happier Relationships
Researchers are still unsure this works, but emerging brain studies have shown that people who engage in mindfulness on a regular basis show both structural and functional changes in the brain regions that are linked to enhanced empathy, compassion, and kindness.
Another benefit of mindfulness is in its effects on the amygdala, which is the brain’s emotional processing center. Mindfulness is linked to reductions in both the volume of the amygdala and its connection to the prefrontal cortex. This suggests that mindfulness might support emotion regulation and decrease reactivity, which are two important tools for creating and maintaining relationships.

Gabriel Miranda Nava | Depression: From Sorrow To Melancolia
Opinion
Sometimes we have felt so sad and so disappointed for a few hours or days, a situation that leads us to sleep badly, have constant awakenings, decreased appetite, easy crying, tiredness, attention deficit, cranky, even wanting to you “swallow the earth” which is a minor thought to “want to die”; These situations are normal in the mood swings we experience throughout the day or in a few weeks, and that is recovering over time, thanks to the adjustment in your brain experienced by neurotransmitters, which we have already mentioned are substances chemical in the brain that allow to carry out the different phases of thought. This series of symptoms or sensations come to us from a series of external stimuli or characteristic experiences that all, absolutely all of us must cross at some time in our life, as are the love breaks, both the conjugal separation and the diverse breaks of the courtship, the loss of a loved one, an economic bankruptcy, a robbery, a labor dismissal, in short. The big problem lies in the times, that is, when this series of situations are presented at the passage of a month, and that they become incapacitated for their work, for their family, for life in general, this is when it happens to be a moment of sadness at the moment of using the word high-sounding: depression. the highsounding word: depression.
Gabriel Miranda Nava Articles from Lupine Publishers:
And it is that the depression does not respect age, sex, religion, social position or another variant of the human being; It has different presentations since in children we can observe it with attention deficit, irritability, socially unsocial personality or that avoids meetings, or puncher or letting it hit at school; in adolescents with sleep difficulties, whether with lack or excess, sadness, easy crying, loss of daily habits; or in elderly people with severe forgetfulness that simulates Alzheimer’s disease. In Mexico of every 100 people, 12 suffer only depression or its variants, without counting other types of mental illness, and of these 12 one will try to commit suicide in one way or another; These data do not mention the great loss of working days and that apart is the first cause of consultation at the level of the specialty of Psychiatry and the first ten causes of general consultation. That is why we are going to apply the following test, called Beck’s, to know if we have depression or not and make the decision to attend a medical consultation.

Sigyn MCU Headcanon - Part Seven
This is a continuation of my personal canon-compliant Sigyn headcanon which I would like to write into a fan fiction but it would take way to long. So here are the highlights.
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10 | TL;DR
Avengers Assembled Season Three (maybe?) Last Half of Season
So, what I didn’t mention last time--because omg, this head canon is spiraling out of control, it’s getting out of control and we’ll be lucky if we live through it--is Peggy is starting to show the onset of Alzheimer’s. That’s not good. Hydra though, loves this, because if Peggy is out of the way then they can move in because, let’s face it, ain’t nobody going to make a move until Peggy freaking-awesome Carter isn’t there to put the kybosh on them.
And Sigyn, well, she studied molecular bio-chemistry, as mentioned before. She’s like “I can fix this.” She borrows Janet’s lab and resources and whips up a drug that will sorta cure Peggy. What it does is basically clean out the synapses, reconnects the ones that are failing, and resets the gray matter back to peak levels without her losing any of her memories or anything. Literally a remedy with no drawbacks except that she will start the degradation progress all over again, but from the beginning, so she has a lot of non-Alzheimer’s years in front of her.
Peggy refuses to take the drug. She promised Sigyn that she would not ask Sigyn to betray her loyalty to her King and the non-interference clause. Sigyn creating a medicine that is highly advanced, even if it is for one person, and it’s just one step too far than what Peggy has already asked of her.
And why should Peggy receive this miracle drug when no one else could? There is a lot of pride in Peggy right now. She’s literally forgetting things and someone is going to get hurt. And, well, she’s starting to get old, perhaps this is a sign that she should finally step down.
So the season goes on, and shit really hits the fan.
We have the incident with Janet and how she sacrifices herself to stop the ICBM. Maybe someone else dies or gets badly hurt. Maybe this will go all the way into 1991 when Howard is killed by Winter Soldier. This would be in like the last or second to last episode once the main arc is finished.
How ever it all ends up, by the time we get to the final episode, the world is safe, but at what cost? And after learning of Theoric’s death, Sigyn is just, well, she’s in a rough place right now. So she goes to Peggy’s and they sit down, have a cup of tea.
Sigyn: “I’m leaving.” Peggy: “Off on another world tour?” Sigyn: “No, I’m leaving Earth.” Peggy: “Leaving... Earth?” Sigyn: “Yes, I was able to put together a communications devise. I got myself a lift to another planet, Xandar to be specific, but that hardly matters.” Peggy: “So you’re leaving, for good?” Sigyn: “Seems so. It’s becoming harder and harder to be Sara Smith. Not to mention your protégé, Fury, is highly suspect of me and my supposed, terrestrial origins.” Peggy: “Are you sure this is what you want to do? We could use you here.” Sigyn: “So I can watch the rest of my friends die? No, SHIELD is amazing, you’ve done great things with it. The world is in safe hands now because of you.” Peggy: “You’re just going to travel the universe then?” -Peggy is getting a headache, pinches her brow- Sigyn: “Until my banishment is up, yes. I can’t see it all, it is so vast, but, there is so much of it out there. Natural beauties and mysterious places. I could visit the upside down waterfalls of [name]. I could see the celestials of Knowhere.” Peggy: -really not feeling well now but trying to be strong- “If you’re sure this is what you want to do.” Sigyn: “I’m sure, besides, I don’t want to be around for you to yell at me.” -Peggy collapses, Sigyn carries her to a sofa or bed- Peggy: “What did you do?” Sigyn: “I slipped the drug into your tea. You’ll have a nasty headache, sleep for several hours, but then you’ll be good as new.” Peggy: “But… you promised.” Sigyn: “I promised, yes, but loyalty can’t always be measured in absolutes. Sometimes being faithful to one belief means betraying another. And the reason my people are not to interfere with your world, is to protect it. Allow it to evolve naturally, instead of giving it weapons it can use to annihilate itself. I will protect this world, by protecting you. The Earth needs you, Peggy Carter.”
Sigyn leaves Carter to sleep off the drug, then goes and meets her ride. Possible Yondu reference here, maybe, but she just needs to get off planet before Peggy awakens and the last episode ends.
The final part of the episode is Hydra going ‘okay, change of plans, Peggy is back, hide, hide.’ Peggy closes down the Avengers Initiative even though Fury is like ‘this is a bad idea.’
There is a wonderful speech by Peggy about heroes, life, tragedy, and hope. As she speaks, there are scenes of all the Avengers and major players and basically where they are right now. You see the different styles of grief from Hank, Jarvis, and Anna. Things like that.
Sigyn’s part of the voice over speech is about finding oneself after loss. Re-examining one’s priorities and choosing to live rather than succumbing to grief. About sometimes having to put oneself first in order to heal.
The scene is Sigyn walking through a fantastical bazaar somewhere. She stops to look at something. As she glances up, she sees a dark clothed figure. It is her dear friend, Loki. His smile is near conspiratorial. She is so very glad to see him. (editor’s note, this scene would have been shot earlier when they had Tom available)
And thus no word is heard of Sigyn after this moment. Unknown is the fate of the woman known as Sigyn, of Asgard, the Goddess of Fidelity. She is still banished, that has apparently not changed, even with Loki becoming King… twice. So where has she been? Why did she not return? And why did Loki not seek her out?
All questions to be answered in the new Marvel Netflix series Journey into Mystery.
And I’ve hit six thousand words on this head canon… why do I do this to myself? (downs another Kinder Bueno, thank the gods for Euro-Marts)

Juniper publishers-Containment of Dementia Symptoms & Remission: A Case Study
Tumblr media
Abstract
It is imperative that research and discovery continues to alleviate the burden of dementia care and treatment. We present the case of a 75-year old man living with Vascular Dementia (VaD). The diagnosed was made on January 30th, 2003 by a general practitioner. As a result of the diagnosis, he immediately retired after a 15 year career as an associate business professor at a state university. Only a few years earlier, in 1999, he received a triple bypass. After GSHS treatments and herbal medicines, healing of his dementia (remission) was accomplished and all pharmaceuticals were eventually discontinued. In this case, diet, supplements and the GSHS treatments all played a critical role in containing his symptoms and eventually returning his dignity, memory, and optimal health.

Introduction
This is a case study of a 75-year old American veteran who clinically was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia (VaD) on January 30th, 2003, his 13-year history living with his dementia, and his remission of dementia. VaD is the second only to Alzheimer's representing 15% of all cases with no licensed treatments [1]. This paper is the first in a series outlining the possibility of achieving containment and remission of dementia using a newly discovered treatment known as the Good Shepherd Healing System (GSHS). This man's condition had progressed to the point of being silent, unable to respond to commands, and an unable to control his movements. His condition was profound at the time of the intervention with the Good Shepherd Healing System (GSHS), a form of energy medicine. By 2015 he had deteriorated to the point of his participating in only minimal social activities, requiring total care, being unable to open his eyes and keep them opened or focused to people and events him, and experiencing impairment of all executive skills. From 2003 to 2008 a pharmacotherapeutic approach was attempted in this case, without success [2]. Then natural supplements such as coconut oil and antioxidants were used with some with limited success.
He received Reiki and aroma therapy on a regular basis for a number of years beginning in 2010 through 2014 [3-4]. When the GSHS, along with some specific supplements was used, containment of symptoms and remission became noticeable to all care providers. The GSHS appears to hold a key to the possibility of achieving remission of dementia and a promising new therapy for millions of sufferers. Richard Rankin, DC who discovered the GSHS and Ethelle Lord, DM researched some protocols to create physical and mental improvements in patients who demonstrated cognitive, communicative and physical skills such as coordination, alertness and awareness of their environment much like this case study [5-6]. Results were promising early in the study which could be classed as remission of their dementia. Anyone can access this form of treatment either in person or from a distance. All research participants in this study received GSHS treatments for their dementia from a distance performed by Dr. Rankin, a GSHS practitioner in Arkansas, USA. This form of energy treatment for those diagnosed and livings with dementia have large financial implications for families, communities and the world. This is important research in the field of dementia care that deserves further exploration through double-blind studies. However research funds are limited and these researchers is now devoting time and money to achieving remission for one individual at a time. The GSHS appears to be a game changer.

Evidence Of Remission In Dementia
The Good Shepherd Healing System™ (GSHS) may be a game-changer for Alzheimer’s and dementia. In a privately funded small study, all participants achieved remission. The GSHS is a first in its ability to STOP Alzheimer's and dementia in their tracks by offering optimal health to individuals living with either of these conditions. The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017 is developing a Global Dementia Observatory (GDO) to facilitate countries around the world in strengthening their health systems to adequately offer support to millions living with dementia and also offer support to their families [6,7]. The estimate cost of dementia care is estimated at $604 billion annually in US dollars (see goo.gl/VqS1Yx) [8]. Dementia research is certainly important and needs to continue. Much like Jeff Bezos at Amazon.com is recognized as a game changer for his leadership, Ethelle Lord, DM, along with Richard Rankin, DC, discovered the power of remission in dementia in a small study that ended in June 2016.

Background
In the fall of 2015, I received a call from a friend in Canada who was receiving treatment at a distance working with Dr. Rankin. Her words were "I think you should talk to Dr. Rankin. He can help your husband. His work is remarkable." My husband, Major Larry S. Potter, USAF Retired, was diagnosed in 2003 with vascular dementia, and more, following his triple bypass in the fall of 1999. On the same day I picked up the phone and called Dr Rankin to discuss this matter further and perhaps even set him straight about helping with my husband's dementia. I really did not know what he would say when I dialed his number (Figure 1).
"Results of working with GSHS requires that I start to make you aware of this service for you and possibly someone you love. remain in AWE as well as the staff of where my wife is [living based on] the progress she has made in a month! She is the talk of the place."~ Gary Sinclair, mymemorymakeover.com, FACEBOOK post on February 27, 2017.
To my great surprise and awe, after a few hours on the phone I proposed a small study of individuals living with dementia. These patients were invited to participate with very little evidence of success, since no such study had ever been done. The GSHS is a new perspective on healing. Participants who volunteered to be part of this study were from different geographic areas. Their diagnoses varied from Alzheimer's and frontal lobe dementia to vascular dementia. One participant was from France, one from the Caribbean, and the others were from different parts of the United States, East to West Coasts. As serendipity has it, I wanted to discover a way to reduce my husband's symptoms of dementia. After all,in 2010 and 2014 I was able to reverse his symptoms by following recommendations in Awakening from Alzheimer's by S. Sarlin and adding coconut oil. However, each time the reversals did not hold.

Remission Of Vascular Dementia: A Case Study
Larry had been diagnosed with vascular dementia on January 30th, 2003. His father, Buck Potter, one of 12 children born in Brainerd, Minnesota, also lived with vascular dementia [9,10]. When researching a genetic cause for Larry’s dementia, it was discovered that 8 of 12 children in Buck Potter’s family had been diagnosed with dementia. After moving Larry from one care facility to another in August of 2014, only a short 12-mile trip by ambulance, he closed his eyes and stopped moving for almost years [11-13]. He was very much like a person in a coma: little to no eye movement, no clear speech except for moaning and the occasional yelp, and needing total care in his new facility. His neurological impairment was extreme in 2014 (see the list of pre-remission symptoms below the photos) (Table 1), (Figures 2 & 3).
Symptoms prior to remission:
a. Had to be primed to drink and eat
b. Inability to open his eyes and focus
c. Inability to sit comfortably or hold a sitting position in his wheelchair
d. Inability to speak (only moans and yelps)
e. Inability to feed himself or hold a drink
f. Inability to participate in any activity
g. Total care and in a sleeping position 24/7 whether in or out of bed
What Dr. Rankin was telling me on the phone on that late fall evening was nothing short of amazing. I gave him my complete attention and paid him to do the very first GSHS application on my husband that same evening. This was all done from Arkansas where Dr. Rankin lives and works. My husband, Larry, was in Maine, over 1,600 miles away.

About The GSHS
The GSHS is a new form of intuitive healing delivered by a GSHS practitioner. It is delivered by voice command to a specific body system. For those living with dementia it is delivered to the brain and other body systems that are responsible for causing dementia (heart, lungs, kidneys, etc). The GSHS practitioner does not diagnose anyone. The person seeking GSHS applications always comes with their own medical diagnosis.
For the purpose of explaining how energy healing works, energy refers to anything that vibrates. Every vibration has a frequency, and vibrations are quantified by numbers. For example, voice and sound are two types of energy communication. When a dog whistle is used, the high-frequency sound it makes has meaning for a dog; however, humans are not able to react to the dog whistle because they do not hear it and therefore it does not have the same meaning for a human as it has for a dog. Although other research is ongoing in energy healing for dementia (e.g. at Harvard), the GSHS is the first approach to achieve remission in dementia patients [14-21].
The GSHS is designed to quickly identify the problems in the person living with Alzheimer's or dementia, eliminate and neutralize those problems, and achieve optimal health for the individual. Because we believe that it is possible to ACHIEVE REMISSION IN ALZHEIMER’S, return meaningful living to millions of individuals living with dementia, improve their cognitive and physical abilities, and enable them to experience optimal health, the GSHS is now available to those who have a desire to STOP dementia from progressing and regain as much as possible, cognitively and physically (Figure 4).
"Igot involved (in the GSHS study) because this was one that had no preconceptions of the disease. It involved the whole person. Not just the normal tau proteins and tangles... (GSHS) approached Alzheimer and dementia more as an auto immune disease, where the entire person needed to be treated. It covered the chemicals in the brain, blood, organs, emotions, physical being and the spiritual side of the individual. Well I finished my current involvement on 5/6/2016.
The conclusion is that I have a 25% improvement in my overall being. Here is what I can tell you. I have lost about 20 pounds. I am finally, after years, back to walking daily. For the first time, in how long, I actually use power tools. On Monday, I helped my daughter do something that I always enjoyed; we sanded down her oak dining table to get it ready to refinish it... I have more energy and do think a little clear[er], but still get confused and have problems getting things from my head to mouth... My writing is easier. The proof is in the pudding, as they say..." ~ Joe Potency, Author of LIVING WITH ALZHEIMER'S, (goo.gl/ro1vPc).

Remission For Larry Potter
Needless to say, I could barely wait to visit with Larry the day following the first application of the GSHS by Dr. Rankin. I wanted to see for myself if the GSHS application had any effect on him. To my amazement and that of his care providers, his eyes were now wide open. He was able to look all around and focus on sounds, people, and events. With tears in my eyes I said, "Larry! I've been waiting here for you for so long. Welcome back!" He was present and looking straight at me for the first time in about two years [22-24] (Figure 5).
Go to
Significance Of Remission For Larry Potter, A Case Study
Larry gained the ability to:
a) Speak full sentences
b) Move, drink without assistance, and eat finger foods
c) Ask and answer questions requiring left-brain functions
d) Participate in and enjoy activities such as outings
e) Listen to and enjoy recorded books, especially the Harry Potter series
f) Take phone calls and FACETIME or SKYPE calls
g) Attend and participate in his own care-plan meetings
After his remission, Larry has been able to keep his eyes opened during his awakened hours. He also began to speak words, form sentences, ask questions, answer questions, shake hands with others, be coordinated with his hand and arm movements in the wheelchair, and much more. Time was on his side now. "To hear his voice again with the same intonation and feelings he used to have was nothing short of a miracle to me. I continue to be amazed at his daily progress." ~ Ethelle Lord
Go to
Summary
The GSHS is a visionary healing application that is a game changer. No longer is there a mystery in what has been afflicting millions of individuals in every country around the globe. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in a 2012 report, dementia is a public health priority (see goo.gl/jg713). The significance of remission in dementia and Alzheimer is immeasurable. There are cognitive and physical improvements we can measure. However the emotional and spiritual benefits are different for every person and their family. Remission offers families who fear their loved one is "disappearing" before their very eyes due to their dementia an opportunity to "re-appear", live a better quality of life, and experience optimal health.
The high cost of dementia care is bankrupting every nation around the world. By introducing remission the cost of dementia care is greatly reduced since independence is often returned to the person diagnosed with Alzheimer or dementia. They suddenly are able to start a finish a task without being supervised. Families are able to feel the freedom from having to suffer from watching their family member slowly loosing language and physical abilities. The GSHS is a recent discovery (2016) and therefore more study needs to be done to see that improvements continue over time. Larry continues to make progress daily and it is expected that he will walk again in the future. Various care providers and family members have expressed their amazement at the progress he had made so far. The future remains bright knowing remission has changed the course of his dementia.

Essay by Michael Almereyda, Filmmaker
Cinema is a matter of what’s in the frame and what’s out. —Martin Scorsese
We should be blessed if we lived in the present always, and took advantage of every accident that befell us, like the grass which confesses the influence of the slightest dew that falls on it. —Henry David Thoreau, Walden
In Cameraperson (2016), Kirsten Johnson has made a buoyant film about the weight of the world.
She lays out her process in a paragraph presented up front. What we’re about to see, she explains, has been patched together from material she has shot as a cinematographer for films directed by other people, in the course of a career spanning twenty-five years. “I ask you to see it as my memoir,” Johnson insists.
A memoir, yes, but one that is scant on autobiographical facts. You have to turn elsewhere to learn that Johnson studied painting and literature in the late 1980s at Brown University, where she had a political awakening, stirred by the anti-apartheid movement roiling the campus. Upon graduation, making an uncommon move, she transplanted herself to Senegal and interned there on a film written by the great Ousmane Sembène. In 1991, she was the first American to enroll at La Fémis, the French national film school, where she entered the camera department and discovered a vocation. She landed early cinematography jobs in France and Brazil.
Evolving from this global trajectory, Cameraperson is a nonchronological collage of raw and repurposed footage: forty-four distinct episodes (by my count) made up of sounds and images gathered for (but generally not appearing in) twenty-four separate projects. Most of the episodes are bridged by breaks of black frames, during which anticipatory sounds prepare for oncoming images. Locations are identified by title cards, and eleven people are given names and job descriptions, ranging from “Jacques Derrida / French philosopher”—a quick cameo, as the famous man impishly holds forth on a Manhattan street—to “Aisha Bukar / nurse, midwife,” a more substantial, recurring presence, granting us access to a natal unit in a Nigerian hospital, where the film arrives at one of its most harrowing sequences. We get scraps from high-profile documentaries—Laura Poitras’s The Oath and Citizenfour, on which Johnson served as a principal shooter, and Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11, for which she received an “additional camera operator” credit—but most of the movies cannibalized here are not especially well-known, and Johnson accomplishes her most probing portraiture by focusing on people encountered as strangers. Her inclusion, at regular intervals, of her own home-video footage confirms an impression of inspired and intimate rummaging. (This is a memoir that blurs the line between professional and private experience.) Ultimately, like a lavish quilt, or a bird’s nest, the film subsumes its source material on the way to becoming a complete and organic new thing.
More often than not, Johnson’s work takes her to places stamped by violence, death, and destruction, sites of collective grief and dread. Even if the worst of the mayhem has occurred in the past, she’s there to absorb and collect the residue, talking to survivors, bearing witness. Johnson supplies a few grace notes, musical interludes, flashes of scenic splendor, but for a film made by a cinematographer, there are bracingly few images that are merely pretty or picturesque. People are plainly what Johnson cares about most, and in this film she candidly prizes and examines her ability to use her camera to get close to whoever is in the frame. “Gettin’ close to everybody,” she murmurs, disarmingly, to an initially wary man in a Brooklyn boxing gym. The man smiles and relaxes, as if Johnson has cast a spell. She coaxes equivalent looks of complicity and acceptance from a boy in Kabul whose left eye has been blinded in a bomb blast; from an elegantly wizened Muslim woman in Bosnia and Herzegovina who, with a tight, tart smile, denies that the Serbs’ campaign of mass rape ever affected her family; and from her own mother, diminished by Alzheimer’s, regarding Johnson—and Johnson’s camera—with a mix of tenderness and fright.
The film has been crafted with self-reflexive knowingness. Shots that feature fumbling and reframing are integrated the way a confident painter builds a picture around bare canvas, loose brushwork, spattered drips. And there’s a steady pressing of a central nerve, a nagging question implicit in the most searching documentaries as well as the most trivial: At what point does the camera’s scrutiny become exploitative, invasive, voyeuristic, damaging? The question hovers throughout the film, despite Johnson’s evident gift for putting people at ease, respecting the pressure and pain of true confession. In sequence after sequence, she invites and captures intimacy, even or especially when her subjects don’t want their faces shown. (In these cases, Johnson’s camera follows their uneasy hands, and we see Scorsese’s axiom at work; what’s not in the frame adds eloquence to what is.)
As a self-portrait, Cameraperson is intriguingly elliptical, oblique. Early on, we see Johnson’s striding shadow, her camera rising from her shoulder like a jagged branch, an extension of her body, but in the course of the film she appears full-on only briefly, near the end. She doesn’t spell out a credo, or spill any outright confessions of her own. (In an overconfiding age, this may account for a good deal of the film’s power.) But Johnson’s overheard voice—a quick, open, guileless voice, quintessentially American—is there from the start, behind the lens, giggling and almost giddy. When her camera catches lightning slicing down from a wash of blue-gray Missouri clouds, she gasps, then stays steady and silent enough to take in the emptiness—a crash of thunder, its echo, a defiantly serene bird—then Johnson sneezes, twice, jostling the frame, undercutting any self-important claim to authority as the film’s title comes up.
Soon after, in Sarajevo, speaking offhandedly to an unseen collaborator, the cameraperson sketches her MO, talking like a teenager: “I always try to have some kind of relationship with people, like I’ll look them in the eye like ‘You see me shooting you, don’t you?’”
She shows us her twin toddlers in her Manhattan home (without giving a glimpse of a significant other) and spends time with her parents, inevitable augurs of mortality. Johnson’s father, on a casual walk, cheerfully displays a dead bird to the grandkids, while images of Johnson’s mother give way to shots of a container holding her ashes. (For the latter, Johnson keeps rearranging objects in the frame, adjusting the composition, as if trying to come to terms with the unadjustable limit of her mother’s life.)
In interviews, Johnson has expressed guilt and self-reproach about photographing her afflicted mother against her wishes. Yet, as she must know, some of her film’s most poignant moments emerge from this betrayal. How could Johnson resist recording her mother’s stunned face, trying to hold on to an identity slipping away before her eyes? Circling back to Scorsese, we can recognize that Johnson is confronting a larger fact: human presences are always fragile, fleeting, on their way to being out of the frame.

You can entangle across time. You can entangle into the future, into the past. You can entangle through space. That’s what quantum entanglement means. It means that there’s another underlying layer of nature that we haven’t discovered yet. —Dr. Eric W. Davis, in Cameraperson
At some point in the editing process, Johnson seems to have taken her cue from the astrophysicist quoted above, riffing on the notion that we’re all entangled; time and space can’t always be taken literally; recorded reality can be reorganized to comply with memory and imagination. By this logic, less scientific than intuitive, people and places in Johnson’s memoir become entangled in occasional shared chapters, tethered by free-associational edits. The harsh wind in Wyoming, flashing through tall grass on the Johnson family ranch, makes Johnson’s mother stagger, wince, and seem to dwindle into a Giacometti figurine. With the grace of a cut, the same wind sweeps through a yellow hillside in Foča, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the rural village where a Muslim family has returned to their farm while contending with memories of genocide and war.
Similar associative links and leaps flicker throughout the film, but, halfway in, there’s a sequence that’s starkly explicit in its insistence on interconnectedness. Johnson serves up a series of landscapes where historic atrocities have occurred, now mute and tranquil crime scenes, mundane places conjoined by invisible carnage and, for the most part, a shared look of dreary ordinariness. The sequence includes sites of mass execution, torture, and rape, plus forensic shots of the drab interior of a pickup truck identified as the vehicle that dragged James Byrd Jr. to his death in the otherwise unremarkable town of Jasper, Texas. In this stretch, Johnson expresses a sustained note of anguish, like a war correspondent admitting to a case of secondhand PTSD, but she’s stoic about it, and, as her film offers a range of locations and perspectives, she’s irrepressibly alert to the bigger picture—a picture that includes antic dancing in Uganda, a woman embracing a fierce and humiliated young boxer after a lost match in Brooklyn, the flow of life around a roadside market in Liberia. It’s fair to say the “wonderful” God hailed by nine-year-old Kirsten in a preserved handwritten poem—“Your love never ends! / And my love to you will never end!”—has been displaced, in the grown cameraperson’s mind and eye, by a pantheistic understanding of the world, a sense of immanence and mystery that competes with evidence of unrelenting bad news. And so Johnson counterbalances bitter and abject scenes with proofs of compassion, consolation, even joy. And it’s no fluke that many of the film’s brighter moments involve children.

Down with bourgeois fairy-tale scenarios . . . Long live life as it is! —Dziga Vertov
Cameraperson has been showered with sympathetic and insightful reviews, and hailed as a film without precedent. It doesn’t diminish Johnson’s work—its integrity, freshness, and force—to recognize that antecedents do exist. Dziga Vertov, the pioneering Soviet director of newsreels and kaleidoscopic documentary features, would not be spinning in his grave to consider his legacy extended and fulfilled in Johnson’s audacious and self-aware doc/essay/travelogue/memoir. Indeed, Cameraperson would make a provocative double bill with Vertov’s equally unclassifiable Man with a Movie Camera (1929), a dazzling chronicle of urban life channeled dusk to dawn through the lens of an itinerant cameraman, a tale told without intertitles or narration. (Vertov’s spectacular “day” was in fact filmed in four cities over a period of three years.) Man with a Movie Camera’s propulsive editing and hyper-aestheticized photography don’t jibe with Johnson’s levelheaded approach, but her anchoring ambition is aligned with Vertov’s: to record and elevate common experience, to uphold film as a reflection of reality rather than an escape from it, and, further, to create movies that open idealistically outward, providing a means for people to see their lives valued, honored, and in effect returned to them, even as they become part of a larger collective story.
In Chris Marker’s Sans Soleil (1983), we can find another singular, self-defining, soaring hybrid “documentary” experiment, a collage of fragmentary episodes candidly jigsawed together from a cinematographer’s accumulated outtakes. Marker uses magisterial narration to explicate his images, to question them, to expand their reach, constructing a philosophical inquiry into the nature of seeing, memory, time, consciousness; but strip away the voice-over and you can still take in Marker’s generous regard for the people he encounters, respect for their vulnerability, their otherness, their unique place within a vast human family.
All the same, Vertov and Marker, assigning their authentic, unstaged images to fictional cameramen, avoid the level of personal risk embraced by Johnson, who unabashedly (if incompletely) reveals her history, her unmistakable self, as the source of every frame. By the time we catch sight of her in Cameraperson, we can be forgiven for presuming to know her. She aims the camera at herself, standing beside her unsteady mother, sharing the older woman’s worried smile, and her eyes look haunted. The image emerges within a flashback, an editorial surprise, and it suggests that Johnson would agree with a primary Marker aphorism: “Being a photographer means not only to look but to sustain the gaze of others.” The gaze of others, we can see, carries a corresponding weight.

I said to the wanting-creature inside me: What is this river you want to cross? —Kabir
Voyeurism is related to cinema as lust is related to love. You can separate them—you can try to separate them—but to what end? The urge to look, to see and share private experience—whether displays of intimacy, acts of violence, the urgent facts of another person’s pain—is seldom pure and simple. How do we, filmmakers and film viewers, transcend voyeurism? How can a filmmaker’s craft and conscience elevate images from voyeurism to revelation?
Cameraperson reaches a kind of climax back in Foča, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the place Johnson visits most within the braided strands of the film’s structure. She documents her return five years after her initial journey, with music from the resulting 2011 film, an episode of the PBS series Women, War & Peace, brimming over into Cameraperson, the movie we’re watching while the gathered family watches themselves on a laptop screen. Johnson, of course, records this rapt audience, their charged attention, then the rich homemade meal that follows, coffee, a cigarette. The Möbius-strip circuit of giving and taking and giving back—the process of seeing, sharing, and accepting—brings Cameraperson to an ideal summit of reconciliation, peace, hope for the future. “We hope someday she can come back with her son and daughter,” a woman tells Johnson’s translator, “to see how peasants live.” Exactly the response Vertov was hectically hungering for.
One of the film’s most arresting and resonant images, for this viewer, occurs earlier in Foča, when an unnamed Muslim woman lifts a bowl high above her head, confidently spilling berries into another bowl held below her waist. The free-falling fruit makes an ecstatic blur, and the next cut shows the berries as they’ve landed and settled, as if artfully prearranged: a ready-made bouquet of whorled color—red, black, white, yellow—an instant metaphor for plenitude and renewal, raw experience transformed into poetry.
“Wow,” says the woman behind the camera. “It’s like magic.”
Yes—wow—it is.

Sherlock HLV-S4 (aka EMP) vs House M.D.
First of all, it’s worth mentioning that House MD was inspired by ACD stories therefore it wouldn’t be odd for Mofftiss to take inspiration from the series. Also, it’s the only modern Sherlock series except for their own.
Gregory House - Sherlock Holmes, James Wilson - John Watson, Amber (aka Wilson’s dead gf) - Mary (aka Watson’s dead wife).
Ok let’s start with S4E15 ‘’House’s head’’
Summary: House has a short disjointed vision and presumes that "somebody's going to die". Back at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, House is diagnosed with a concussion and post-traumatic retrograde amnesia. Chase performs a medical hypnosis on House to stimulate his memory. While the team investigates several pathologies to fit the bus driver's condition, House overdoses on his Vicodin and starts to hallucinate. In a renewed attempt to retrieve his memory, House has his team reenact the bus crash. House overdoses on physostigmine, a medication against Alzheimer's disease, and his mind flashes back to the bus scene before the accident. "The answer" reminds House that since he values reason above everything else, there must be one for her presence in his mind. She keeps asking House what her necklace is made from, until House realizes that it's made of amber. "The answer" transforms into Amber Volakis, and when Wilson and Cuddy manage to resuscitate House from his overdose-induced cardiac arrest, House immediately informs Wilson that Amber's life is in danger as he now remembers the crash.
This one is going to be pretty messy because this episode parallels HLV, TAB, and T6T. The most important thing is that Sherlock/House overdoses to solve a case in his mind, turns out it has to do with James’/John’s wife.

S4E16  "Wilson's Heart"
Summary/highlights:  In an attempt to remember exactly what he saw that caused his initial concern and help definitively diagnosis her (Amber), House decides to undergo deep brain stimulation with Wilson's urging. The crash caused such extensive anatomical and physiological trauma to Amber that she ended up suffering acute renal failure. This damage to her kidneys made them unable to adequately filter out the amantadine, causing her to overdose, and thus causing all her unexplained symptoms. Wilson suggests dialysis as a treatment, however House tells him during the memory of the moments leading up to the bus crash that when unfiltered, amantadine binds to proteins in the kidneys, and therefore dialysis is unable to clear it from the blood, and ultimately there is no treatment for Amber. House and Wilson begin to cry, and House goes into a seizure while still connected to the Deep Brain Stimulation equipment. The seizure causes the equipment to shift, thus causing House's brain to bleed, leading to him falling into a coma. An unconscious House has a vision of Amber who persuades him not to give up on life and die, telling him that he "can't always get what he wants". Wilson returns home and finds the note Amber left him in their bedroom saying she went to pick up House and would return home soon, causing him to breakdown in tears.

S5E01  "Dying Changes Everything"
Highlights:  House then enters Wilson's office and offers an apology in a final attempt to make him stay. Wilson tells House that he does not blame him for Amber's death, as much as he wanted to, and tried hard to. However, when House starts to assume that everything is fine, Wilson tells House that Amber was never the real reason why he was leaving. Wilson says that he has realized that House is rude and malicious to everybody he knows, including him, and throughout their entire friendship, he's been enabling his behavior. Wilson claims that as long as the two remain friends, he will always continue this negative atmosphere. He then begins to say that he should have been on the bus that crashed, but then pauses and says that House should have been on it alone. "We're not friends any more, House; I'm not sure we ever were," Wilson says as he leaves his office and leaves House in the room alone.

S5E23  "Under My Skin"
Summary: [...] House must solve this daunting puzzle, even while going to extreme measures to rid himself of his continuing hallucinations of Amber.  House confides in Wilson about his problem, and they create a list of potential diagnoses, ranging from MS to schizophrenia. While House tests for and eliminates diagnosis after diagnosis, Wilson consults on House's case, serving as a monitor to make sure House does nothing that goes beyond "House-radical" to "House-out-of-his-head-radical". Meanwhile, House eliminates all possible diagnoses but severe mental illness and Vicodin addiction—both prognoses bleak, as House would be unable to practice medicine if taking anti-psychotics, or if in continuous pain after detox. In desperation, House gives himself insulin shock as an alternative to anti-psych drugs or ECT. After recovering from the insulin-induced coma, House finds himself free of his hallucination and eagerly returns to the diagnosis of his patient. Returning to the case, House finds Penelope's boyfriend's devotion suspicious, and believing it to be guilt-induced, tells his team to test him for gonorrhea. The test returns positive, but it becomes evident that the boyfriend was shocked by this, and that Penelope had been cheating on him, not the other way around. As House realizes that he reached the correct conclusion by accident rather than through accurate observation, he once again starts to have hallucinations of Amber. This leaves House's Vicodin addiction as the final diagnosis for his hallucinations. Rather than go to a clinic or check into the hospital under a pseudonym, House reveals his situation to Cuddy and asks her to personally help him. Cuddy spends the night at House's home, destroying any caches of Vicodin and monitoring him as he detoxes, with Amber eventually disappearing. The episode ends with House and Cuddy kissing passionately and disrobing.

S5E24  "Both Sides Now"
I’d rec reading the summary, i know it’s long but it’ll make you realise how similar to TLD the ep is. And if i’d have to rec you one episode of house to watch from this list, it’d be this one.
Summary:  House wakes up at his apartment after spending the night with Cuddy. He discovers that she has left her lipstick on his bathroom counter, as well as on his cheek. House pockets the lipstick, and goes to work in a cheerful mood and a remarkable lack of pain.  Meanwhile, Cuddy tells House that their relationship must be that of employer and employee. House tells Wilson that he kicked his drug habit and had sex with Cuddy; Wilson advises that he talk to her, advice which House ignores. Instead he begins a campaign to annoy and provoke her, an attempt to break through her composure. In a final attempt to provoke Cuddy into examining her true feelings for him, House announces to everyone in the main lobby of the hospital that he had sexual relations with Cuddy. Cuddy responds by confronting him in a hallway, and then firing him after he suggests that they move in together. Cuddy storms off but before House can do anything else. House then goes to talk to Cuddy in her office, and asks her if she could possibly be overreacting to the previous night. She finally admits that maybe she is, since he's "said plenty of lousy things to [her] before." House seems confused, as he assumed that she was overreacting to her and House having sex and what it could mean to their employer-employee relationship.  But he realizes that Cuddy's reactions all day have been consistent, and in fact it is his own memory of the situation that is faulty. He turns his attention to the lipstick Cuddy let at his apartment, which he has been playing with all day, and is troubled that Cuddy's coffee cup shows no lipstick smears; his memory of the prior evening included smears of lipstick on his face from kissing Cuddy, so he expects her lipstick is the sort that smears. He asks Cuddy whether she has another type of lipstick, one with a "sealing agent", that might explain the discrepancy between his memory of the smeared kiss and the reality that now confronts him of the unsmeared coffee cup. House then has a flashback to the night (from the episode "Under My Skin") before when he thought he told Cuddy that he needed her help with his addiction. He suddenly sees the reality of what has happened: he never told Cuddy he was having hallucinations that night. His final words of the evening were: "you can go suckle the little bastard child if that makes you feel good about yourself." Upset by this remark, she left the office and went home, never accompanying him to his apartment.House snaps back to reality and tries to explain to Cuddy that that's not what actually happened, saying "I told you I needed you, and you helped me." He reaches into his pocket to remove the lipstick, but, to his shock, he discovers that it is actually a bottle of Oxycodone which states 'not to exceed'. He drops the bottle on the floor and gingerly backs away from it. Cuddy, now realizing House is not joking, rushes to him and asks if he is okay. He doesn't respond, but then has another flashback, and realizes what happened. The whole previous night was a complete hallucination, beginning from him telling Cuddy that he needed her to help him detox and her accompanying him home. His memory of Cuddy staying by his side at his apartment was not real, and, in fact, he spent the night popping pills by himself. Hallucinations of Amber and Kutner then appear and tell House that while the story he invented about himself is nice, it's not true. House finally looks at Cuddy and is able to fearfully tell her that he is not okay.

S6E2  "Broken"
Highlights:  House awakens in the Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital after suffering through the painful effects of Vicodin withdrawal. Dr. Nolan tells House he cannot possibly treat someone so uncooperative. As Nolan leaves, however, House softly calls him back and says, "I need help." He begins therapy with Nolan and House says, "I want to get better." House apologizes to Steve, and as he wheels him away, Steve breaks his silence and gives the silent Annie the music box he was holding. For the first time, she speaks to say 'thank you'. Lydia arrives and House takes her in to see the group watching her sister-in-law playing "Bach's Cello Suite No. 1" on the cello.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ah, I’ve forgotten to add this. It’s from the beginning of season six. House finds out that Lisa didn’t break up with her bf. = Sherlock didn’t ‘’break up’’ with the woman. Parallels the 221B scene in TLD.
(House: they didnt break up. Wilson: and youre ok with that? House: it is what it is)
