I love how you draw galacta knight so elegant. He's graceful, angelic, but overpowering. The duality of the justice he was meant to serve and uninhibited, raw violence i love it sm

i think it's specifically important that he is so insanely elegant and pretty and also deadly haha. there's a line in one of my fics where bandee identifies some jungle plants as "far too beautiful to be anything but carnivores", and i think that really sums it up

maybe a little bit generic of me, but i adore the dream land four!

magolor and bandee are tied for tippy top favourite, but this whole group just mean everything to me and i am extremely normal about them. after these guys it's probably a very close galacta knight and marx!

king dedede was actually my first ever played exposure to the franchise (through smash multiplayer at a party where i picked him due to Bird) and marx was my first 'character i recognised + played + was obsessed with outside the mains' in star allies so i still consider him my original Little Freak (affectionate)

it isn't there anymore.

the mainline game events from rtdl onwards tend to form the foundations for significant turning points in the whole awtdy timeline. galacta knight made his wish during robobot, but was actually placed into the timeline much earlier. as a result he already has clear knowledge of how these events played out for meta knight, and can therefore adjust them to his liking

for the most part, he's interested in dealing with threats as quickly and efficiently as possible, and keeping total control of the people in his orbit. his overall goals are to destroy the life he stole from meta knight, and to corrupt his loved ones in whichever way will hurt him the most

in the case of triple deluxe, galacta knight goes to floralia in kirby's stead to "rescue dedede" and "prevent the spread of dark matter" caused by Sectonia's parasitic rule. kirby slept through the event and blames himself for not waking up in time to help rescue the people of the sky from their queen's corruption

at this point he still believes you can sometimes purify those who have come into contact with dark matter, and feels that if he'd been there, he could have at least tried.

it wasn't Galacta Knight that Bandee noticed was wrong.

for a slightly more in-depth answer to some of these:

"why not Kirby?" because Galacta Knight knows that Kirby is basically the sole risk to him happily living in this timeline, and is keeping an extremely close eye on him and controlling everything he sees and hears. in contrast he doesn't pay too much attention to Bandee, and as a result Bandee actually encounters Meta Knight very briefly during the Robobot arc (which happens shortly before this comic). Galacta Knight's also mentoring Kirby to be far more ruthless and less forgiving, and has successfully isolated him from most of his friends. by the time Star Allies rolls around in this AU, Kirby and Bandee go entirely alone.

"how close were Bandee and Meta Knight?" about as close as Kirby and Meta Knight; in my hc's they frequently train together and Meta Knight has a stern but kind mentorship role to Bandee. Bandee knows that his mentor used to love him, but Galacta Knight's comparative disregard of him isn't the catalyst for him realising that things are messed up; it's that Kirby is so miserable. Bandee knows, in his heart, it's not meant to be like that. he knows that no good or correct timeline could exist where Kirby is sad and lonely.

nobody else can put together that the timeline is messed up because what they could notice is Meta Knight missing, and that realisation is shielded by the process of the wish. it had to be Bandee, because unlike everybody else, it was never Meta Knight that he truly looked up to.

where Galacta Knight uses the word Vaýtita. it's not a name, it's a... actually you know what, it's so much more embarrassing! it's a term of endearment/a relationship designator from my unnecessarily complex whole entire sci-fi language i built for them, lmao 💦

here's the note at the beginning of my personal dictionary as a quick crash course:

Ei Vaýtita in particular means "my gravity". it's akin to words like beloved, my heart, or soulmate- an irresistible force in one's own life. it's usually used romantically, but it doesn't have to be. Galacta Knight says it here to be cruel, though i do think he means it quite wholly

when I go in for making languages, especially sci-fi or high-fantasy ones, i like to consider the alien culture that the language is formed in. for these guys, everything was star and space coded; they had no reason to care about "hearts" or "souls". they considered themselves star-like, and so gravity as a term was most important; it's the only thing that can really move them.

praise is about being bright or shiny or having strong gravitational pull; and insults, accordingly, tend to revolve around being dim/lightless or stuck in orbit around someone greater

hahahahaaaaa ohhhhh this was The One i was most embarrassed about someone finding so great job!!! it's the cheesiest possible song i have for them but it is unfortunately so so perfect and it's one of my favourites. the final bridge regularly makes my eyes water

this song, with its narrative of escaping together and hiding away from things that hurt you both ("there are places up here we can hide//we'll be safe way up high") and that escape being in the sky/space in particular has an extremely strong link to awtdy au, where as things get worse and worse they wear the dream of running away to the stars together so thin it is practically transparent. additionally the 'create our own star' line is sooooo specific and yet!? honestly i did a double take when i found this track!

so yes. extremely cheesy but... if you like some poppy tooth-rotters in your ship, this is a great great song for it!

and regarding the picture itself: despite everything, they are happy in the end, i promise.

i do think whether it's more canon compliant or in an au, bandee is determined to reignite magolor's sense of wonder. he is, imo, just as smart and driven as magolor, if a little less ambitious. in awtdy au in particular bandee learns everything from astronautics to blacksmithing to microelectronics to astrogeology with great enthusiasm!

however unlike magolor, bandee knows how to turn these off in order to just relax or delight in things- like planetary rings- and he's going to make magolor remember how to do this too; even if it takes several dozen years 🍎

it is a swallow-like tail! when you have big ol' wings i figure that having a rudder helps significantly with manoeuvrability. here's some sketches where you can see it a little more clearly.

and an extra bonus; with all those feathers he's obviously gotta have a way to preen them...

wait, since kirby has been manipulated mentored by galacta to be more cold- hearted, how does he react to affection in this state? (hugs, sharing, etc.)

cw for abusive manipulation tactics. like.. mind games. just in case. this response is a little dark just by merit of it being about psychological manipulation through lying, so take care.

kirby is as affectionate and loving as ever! he actually adores galacta knight, who stole the existing trust and familial affection kirby already felt for meta knight when they switched places.

there's a line in the another dimension fight comic, where galacta knight says "he's my family now, as he could have been yours.", and he means this truly. where meta knight was always a little stoic and guarded with his feelings, galacta knight is quick and easy with affection when it suits him, and reaps the rewards instantly

but what he does is targeted. if he were going after someone else (like bandee or dedede) he'd use a different tactic. kindness only works this well because kirby is so isolated and lonely, and craves it so desperately

this is super important i think; his core traits are the same as always. kirby is a good little guy!

he wants to be a hero. he wants to have friends and have a fun time and keep the people he loves safe. he wants to be good and to do the right thing with all his heart, it's just that what is "good" and "the right thing" is being purposefully warped around him

maybe it's good to act pre-emptively to prevent a war with the nation in the clouds, especially when they acted aggressively first.

maybe it's good to seek out and squash any trace of dark matter before it can infect anyone else, even if it's currently harmless.

maybe it's good to put that clearly possessed person out of their misery on sight, so they don't have to suffer anymore, because you couldn't save them anyway, right?

for bandee, who becomes aware this is happening, it's heart-breaking to watch. but he can't confide in kirby, because galacta knight's claws are too deep in him. also he will not put the pressure on kirby to keep a secret that could get them all killed

all he can do is try to be there to keep kirby safe, and hope he can reverse the wish before kirby crosses a threshold of misery or ruthlessness they cannot get him back from

putting this at the top because it's extremely important but i received a message implying that some folks headcanon these two as drastically different ages. you may headcanon whatever you like of course, but in my work i firmly think that they're both full adults who are at least 25+. this is abundantly clear in my work. i'm not interested in headcanoning any of them as literal children and i would never touch that shit. dni if you think that sort of ship would actually be okay. don't be a freak. thanks.

very typical to take your favs and then also shove them together but isn't that the point. anyway i have literally never seen anybody else ship them (if you're out there... hello... 😭) despite them both being very main characters and i don't know why?? they could be so cute i think...

they are both industrious adventurers, prolific hard-workers (team task doers), and a little cheekily competitive!

i think that bandee is no stranger to a wide variety of close and intense relationships; he's beloved by many and loves them all equally but distinctly in turn. magolor on the other hand has been sooo isolated and lonely for such a long-ass time, he barely knows how to be friends let alone really care for someone. bandee is smart enough to be suitably wary but kind enough to give him a chance despite that, which i think would knock him off his non-existent feet instantly. in reply, magolor could give him something unique by loving and prioritising him utterly singularly, in a way bandee wouldn't even have realised he was missing

in awtdy (pictured in the sketch page; if you see a tattered looking magolor in my art it's probably this au) in particular they are both thrown into the angst soup together and come out insanely trauma bonded at the hip. their friendship/relationship is central to the plotline; together they're working on a solution to the timeline anomaly, while also hiding that they even really know each other the whole time
