A Collection of my Petapixel Articles
by Johnny Martyr I take some shit from other film photography bloggers for writing for Petapixel. The consensus is that we want to keep film photography blogs within our community. And I can respect that but I also like the idea of letting the rest of the photographic world know that film is still alive and well by interjecting topics that aren’t often in the mainstream news. One of the things I…

Fujimi Hotel, Yanaka
Much of Tokyo is a city with startlingly modern aesthetics juxtaposed against traditional details. Then there’s things like the Fujimi Hotel in Yanaka, which from the looks of it, might or might not be an abandoned building. I found a listing for the hotel (also listed as Fujimi House on a site called Bamboo-House.com, and it doesn’t look half bad. The post prices for the room as well as…

Keystone Korner, 1970
Located in San Francisco, Keystone Korner was a great venue for live music, especially jazz and blues. Apparently the venue moved to Baltimore. Also, there is some incorrect info on the web regarding the year the venue opened. One site listed it as opening in 1972. I believe the opening was in the late 60’s and operated until 1983. I was only 18 when this photo was taken so I wasn’t able to…

Trois Caméras de 2022
Trois Caméras de 2022
By Johnny Martyr You might have noticed that all your favorite film bloggers are closing out the year with a list of their top three film cameras of 2022. Though I’m late out of the gate, I didn’t want to be left out! I figured there’s still time to make a contribution to this fun meeting of the minds. Be sure to stick around for the end where I’ll link to everyone else’ Three Favorite Cameras…

Fallen cherry blossoms
I was in Tokyo at the end of March, early April, the first time I had been in Japan in spring in decades. The cherry trees were in full bloom at the Okakura Tenshin memorial park in Yanaka. The main street was crowded, but the parks and temples just a block or two away were mostly empty.

Film Friday - Globe
Pentax K1000 | Arista 200 | DF96 | Epson V600 If my memory doesn’t fool me this interesting stainless statue of a globe is on State St looking due south. The windows in the background belong to the State/Lake “L” station. The statue is located within the boulevard median separating State St, just north of the “L” station. Judging from the shadows, this must have been high noon, with the sun…
