I do not! Sorry for the delay my brain has been kinda foggy lately

👻 What is your wildest headcanon?

Ahaha, I don't really have any that are wild. 😅 Mine are all small things like "Leo sometimes gets words wrong because he doesn't know them and sometimes gets them wrong because it annoys Donnie" or the concept of them all trying to give themselves first aid lessons when they were ten to... very limited success. All tiny things that don't really change much because I generally work with what a show gives me. Though I do tend to bow to popular fanon when I like it, I wouldn't call them wild either because everybody uses those. Etc etc.

🤩 What led to your interest in the fandom?

UHHH well. I was walking past the living room while my uncle was watching 4pm cartoons after school (he was 14, my age) and caught the tail end of one of the classic TMNT eps-- it was literally just a clip of April O'Neil for Channel 6 news walking through a destroyed wall and then doing a news report and it cut to the teetles arguing over who she was (thanking? winking at? Idk). She interrupted her own broadcast while they were arguing and said "Cool it, guys! If you must know, I was winking at Splinter!" So that was ...IDK season 2? They were still getting mystical crystals? Anyway, I love cartoons, I love redheads, and I especially love weird cartoons b/c I grew up on a bunch of dubbed anime, so I sat down to watch it properly the next day and was hooked. April was my actual first fave because I always latch onto redheads. (Represent, I guess?) Over time it switched to Leo. Largely because, hilariously, I decided poor lame 87!Leo needed someone to like him. (He grew on me more unironically later on.)

That's probably as far as it would have gone, except I really liked them and so was recording episodes etc, and then while I was at work one day at K-Mart I saw TMNT comics! Which were... actually the colourised volume 1 of Mirage TMNT in four graphic novels, being sold in the kids reading section (oh dear, K-Mart, you didn't look at those too closely, did you?) and so I bought them expecting MORE ADVENTURES OF -- wait, who the hell are these guys. Why are they all wearing red, holy shit is that blood wow they just gutted Shredder in the first issue ... :D :D :D (Oh look, they threw Leo through a window. bb's first blorbo covered in blood, there we go--)

Anyway, yeah at that point I was hooked. And checked the newsagency and found the Archie TMNT comic series, and then from there trekked into the city one day while I should have been at school to visit bb's first comics shop-- TMNT is actually how I got into comic reading, AMV making, and fanfiction by the by-- and, uh, solididfied hurt/comfort as my jam-- and I just kept going down that rabbit hole.

So. Shout out to K-Mart for deciding to sell bloody, gory TMNT comics in the kid's section I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

See my thing as a collector is that if I’m going to own something I kind of want to own all of it - and I’d honestly rather not bother if that’s not possible somehow. Looking at Sonic home video, that’s nice and easy - I bought one blu-ray and now I own all 104 episodes of Sonic Boom, as an example. My last couple posts are enough evidence that even that can have some complications - fuck knows if SatAM and shit will ever have a good home video release come out again - but by and large I can just buy one thing and have all the things.

Sonic comics make that a lot harder though. I’ll be blunt - I think it’s legitimately unreasonable to collect all of either Archie or Fleetway Sonic comics. Too many issues, too old, not much in the way of collection releases, and Archie in particular has about half a dozen related series that would just complicate collecting it all even further. Is it something I’d like to do one day? Yes! Do I expect to ever actually be able to? Not even a little bit!

Well how about IDW then? Well that’s where my whole “I want to own all of it” thing becomes relevant again. Because I generally also want whatever is the grandest and most convenient way to own all of a thing too. In the case of the home video things, that’s the complete boxsets. So in the case of IDW, that would hypothetically be the IDW Collection releases, right? Those massive hardcover releases with 12 issues a piece? They’re fancy as fuck. Definitely the most practical and least space-intensive way to own the whole thing too. But somehow, they worry me. I think it’s the fact that they feel like they could stop at any time? Like they might not truly be able to collect the entire series? I don’t want to start buying them and then find out they just stopped doing them. IDW also has these little 4 issues to a volume paperback releases? Honestly these aren’t even worth consideration to me. And then that leaves the safest option to be... buying every single issue individually. Honestly this could be hype! And if I like catch up I could just start buying new issues as they come out and actually read physically and keep meaningfully up to date compared to waiting for my shitty piracy site to update. But doing it that way worries me because A) expensive, B) takes up a lot of space, C) they’re not hardback and I’d be super duper worried about tears, and D) I think I’d be legitimately stressed out by choice at how many damn variant covers exist.

I don’t have a conclusion here, it’s just 2am and I want to talk about Sonic. I’ll probably try to start collecting IDW Sonic one day. It’s just annoying because the longer I wait the harder it becomes to do so but also if I’m doing it I probably would do the IDW Collection releases but if those don’t finish I’d cry. We’ll see what happens.

I bought the #Soundpeats Air3 delux off Azon, as a combined xmas/birthday present. The price was dropped b/c the new Air4 have just been released.

I bought them to use at home to listen to music or soundscapes to drown out the neighbors when working.The sound quality is everything I could ask for, crisp, full, rich, airy, and spacious.

The battery life sucks. 25 minutes of listening on half volume on a full charge? *Is that it?* The left earbud cutting out a lot. That's not what I expected for the considerable sum I spent. Now what do I do?

It's past the 5 day return window, and I feel cheated, angry and disappointed.

I included SoundFlower and BlackHole for completeness but the DO NOT WORK. This was specifically created to solve this problem. Proxy Audio Device - creates a virtual device like SoundFlower.BlackHole - similar software to SoundFlower.SoundFlower - creates a virtual device with a software volume control that can route sound to another device (your monitor).MonitorControl - uses actual CEC commands to control the volume (and brightness) on the monitor.At that location the volume controls remain active and they control the internal speaker in the laptop as they should. In another location I use the same cable to plug in to Dell monitors with Displayport but without built in speakers in the monitors. Using a Thunderbolt to Displayport cable, plugging in to a Dell monitor with speakers.

Some additional info: It's a Macbook Pro 13" 2018 version. Is there no way to control the volume of an app when an external speaker is connected even if the app is not using the external speaker? Is Apple assuming that if I have external speakers I am so much better using their own volume control that I have to be forced to do it? That is annoying because the monitor's volume controls are buried in terrible menus accessed by terrible buttons on the back of the monitor.Īlso, if I am inside an app where I can select the audio device and I select the Mac's internal speakers, the volume controls are STILL disabled. All the other usual functions (display presets, image settings, etc) are missing.When I plug my Mac into a DisplayPort monitor that has loudspeakers, the Mac's volume controls become disabled.

LG On Screen Control only has 1 function available: screen split.

LG Screen Manager only has 2 functions: update firmware or reset display.

The only 2 apps I found are severely limited: Adjusting the white point requires choosing a different colour profile (or creating one from scratch).īeing a monitor without any physical button and totally dependent on software, I was expecting better options from LG. With this display I can use MacOS to adjust brightness (and toggle auto brightness), and adjust the sound volume. And on that front it didn’t disappoint, the image quality is gorgeous. I'll miss the greater connectivity and better power efficiency of the 27UP850-W but I really wanted a display that would be as similar as possible to the MPB screen (since I’ll be using both simultaneously). The price difference was only about 100€. Thanks for all the great feedback! After reading all the replies, I ended up buying the LG UltraFine 24MD4KL-B. I now have a free premium thunderbolt cable in case this one breaks. I guess it's because the Air has a smaller battery. Before the new replacement cable was delivered to me, I used the iPad Pro Thunderbolt cable for my MacBook Air, and it worked just as fine. There are 2 Thunderbolt cables included, one for the MacBook Air and Pro, and the other one is for the Pro. Logitech replaced the cable happily, as it happened within the 1-year warranty. I did break one of the included Thunderbolt cables, and it was completely my fault. The internal keyboard or any other Apple keyboard will work perfectly in controlling brightness and volume. Love the 5 USB-C ports (2 of which are thunderbolt 3) and connecting my Mac with one cable that does video, audio, and charging is great. If I do more productive things for school and such, I do use the internal display of my Mac as well. I do use clamshell mode for most of the time. The built-in speakers are good enough for general media consumption.

Alright today’s cocoa report is that J and T don’t have cardamom pods so I skipped cardamom and tried cinnamon with clove because I wanted to try out steeping whole spices. Partially following guidance from [redacted] and partially just fucking around, I tried heating the milk with a tea strainer containing crushed clove and cinnamon till the milk foamed, pouring out most of the milk along with the strainer to steep separately in a glass cup measure while I stirred the cocoa and sugar and salt and a little of the milk together, and then remixing everything. This time I remembered to add vanilla after turning the heat off.

I spilled milk directly on the stove multiple times so that cost a couple minutes and a couple points of psychic damage. Having recovered from that and mostly gotten the cocoa project back on track, my review:

1) Not enough spice. Tasted fine, but unremarkable. Can’t even really evaluate whether I like cinnamon and clove as a combination because there wasn’t enough oomph to assess. I used one clove and a pretty small piece of cinnamon. I also used too much milk, I think, which is part of why it spilled, so maybe A) keeping that down to a strict 1 cup will improve the spice factor or maybe I need to B) increase the spice quantity or C) elongate steep time somehow at some stage. Spices are expensive so I don’t want to add more spice volume if I could be getting more spice just from extra steep time. Don’t know how long you’re supposed to steep spice in milk. It was in there from go until the milk foamed and then a little longer off the heat; to steel it longer I’d have to deliberately slow down the milk heating stage or else simmer it for a while afterward.

2) I’m not too worried about the spilling in the long run because I always fuck up doing unfamiliar activities in the morning; if I nail down a routine and get it into muscle memory I’ll be fine.

3) There was still grit at the bottom of the cup, although not as much as when I used ground spice. I don’t know what to do about this. Maybe use a teabag instead of a strainer (because I presume grit is seeping through the holes) but that seems pointlessly wasteful if I’m making a cup every morning.

4) Still dislike how much of my brain this takes throughout the process, because it requires action from me at three or four steps rather than the 2 steps of “mix Substance, leave on low heat forever while you cook breakfast, then add milk and raise heat to medium.” Makes it harder to synchronize breakfast and cocoa being ready at the same time. Unclear how much this would be mitigated by development of muscle memory.

5) Miss my kitchen. T’s sugar bowl is very pretty but impossible to physically engage with. The stove is a nightmare.

6) I do think the prospect of making slightly different cocoa every morning is doing wonders for the me actually getting out of bed and eating breakfast before I become helplessly dizzy campaign.

7) Bought a new little mug at a garage sale on the street the other day for a dollar and I’m loving it. May or may not post a picture of future cocoa in little mug at some point.

I felt like the plf war was rushed

1.Plf advisors getting hype but no payoff

2.Only miruko, Momo, and Kirishma got time to shine

3.Machia got defeated to easily

4.The war felt more like a raid

I don't know if I feel like it was rushed, per se--it's by far the longest arc in the story so far by number of chapters, and would be even if you cut off the Tartarus jailbreak and the entirety of the hospital aftermath. What it absolutely does feel like to me is unbalanced.

You note that the "war" feels more like a raid, and you're right. As a caveat, it's worth keeping in mind that "Paranormal Liberation War" as a name for the arc in question is entirely an invention of the fanbase. To the best of my knowledge, the reasoning for the name was that big action shonen series like BNHA (Naruto, Bleach, Hunter x Hunter, etc) always have a war arc, so what we were seeing in the lengthy, mass combat confrontation with the PLF had to be HeroAca's equivalent. It's not a term that's in the manga itself, however, not called as such by the characters, not referred to as such by Horikoshi or his editors, not even namedropped in chapter or volume titles. If it feels like a raid, that's probably because that's what it was intended to be.

And that's the problem, really. This arc shouldn't have been about a couple of raids; it should have been about a war.

(Below the cut: a bunch of fired-up complaining. Uses some harsh language, and talks about both injuries and deaths we did see and some we logically should have.)

From the outset, we were told that the resources Shigaraki had amassed were "on par with, or even stronger than" the resources of the hero-saturated society. Yet, we're expected to believe that a force that strong is so easily taken down by a single coordinated set of raids? Yes, the heroes had the benefit of surprise, but there's just so much that doesn't work for me.

First off, and to get this out of the way, it's ridiculous that the heroes even had the benefit of surprise. The MLA had an unknown number of hero double agents. They had people in the government; they had people in the infrastructure. This is an organization that had been living undercover completely unsuspected for multiple generations--how did the HPSC ever manage to carry out a massive, country-wide investigation on such a secretive group and coordinate multiple simultaneous, comprehensive raids without a single person finding out and alerting the higher-ups over a period of only three and a half months?

When exactly did Hawks have time to go and revive Best Jeanist--which he tells us he did personally--such that none of the bugs and micro-cameras he was covered with picked up on it, and both he and BJ could be back in the positions they needed to be in for the raid to begin?

How did Skeptic find out about the raid such that he only discovered it at the last possible second and not minutes, even hours, before it kicked off? How did hundreds of heroes (and even "hundreds" is being conservative, given the fact that they had seventeen thousand people to detain) close in on the villa without anyone from the PLF noticing, either Skeptic with his information network or mundane precautions like people on watch?

Even granting the heroes their surprise advantage--which I don't want to--if the advisors were all supposedly "stronger than the average hero," why didn't we see any of them winning? Okay, yes, Hose Face beat Midnight, but he had every possible advantage in that "fight"; I hardly count it as some big impressive defeat that shows us that the villains were holding their own.

Here's another thing: the MLA styled themselves as an army--they were demonstrably trained in troop tactics. When we saw them in Deika, even their nameless on-the-ground people were capable of coordinating with each other on the fly in response to the movements of the enemy, as we saw come up repeatedly:

Yeah, they were off-guard at first, but as soon as the advisors made the front line (which, you'll note, was immediately), that disadvantage really should have begun eroding. Certainly once Geten--Geten! The number one MLA member most willing to disregard collateral damage! And there he was being a proper leader!--got to the front and started yelling orders, we should have seen the PLF rallying, and I can't imagine any sensible justification for the tides not turning when a) Re-Destro showed up to occupy the highest-ranked hero on the field, b) a bunch of heroes peeled off to try to stop Machia only to get trampled for their efforts, and c) Trumpet got dug out.

You know who don't style themselves as an army, though? Heroes. Oh, they get some basic lessons in cooperation as students, but the extent of such lessons we see is stuff like "why it's important for heroes to have signature moves"--so that on group missions, their reputations will precede them and fellow heroes will already know their shtick. U.A. teaches the odd lesson plan that involves the kids fighting in groups, but there's a huge difference between you and 3 to 6 of your buddies fighting a similarly-sized group in a practice fight, or a handful of heroes teaming up to take down some criminal low-lives, and the mass combat scenario that was the raid. For heaven's sake, look at our closest other equivalent: the raid on the Hassaikai base. At every turn in that encounter, the heroes let themselves get split up and picked off, winnowing down their numbers. It's even explicit in the narrative that hero team-ups were, in the age of All Might, uncommon, and heroes are only just beginning to adjust to fighting in teams. The erstwhile MLA should have had the advantage there.

As to Machia's defeat, I think the big problem with it is not how it happened, per se, but the timescale involved. The plan itself was sound enough, and even with all the kids' efforts, it still took Machia reaching Shigaraki and not getting any new orders to follow to really do him in. Given what we can extrapolate about his movement speed, though, I just don't think the kids should have had time to set all those traps, especially given how much of that equipment would have had to be fabricated by Momo on the fly. I know she's gotten stronger and all, and good for her, but you're telling me that in the four months between Joint Training and the raid, she went from passing out because she created a bag of goodies and one (1) cannon to being totally fine and still able to coordinate her fellow students while cranking out 23 jars of sedative, dozens of feet of rope/cable, multiple fire-resistant coats, explosives they somehow had time to bury, and three cannons?

For fuck's sake, Jirou gave Machia's ETA as under ten seconds. Yeah, Mount Lady slowed him down, but "only a little"--how much time could she possibly have bought them, that the kids were able to to coordinate and enact everything that plan involved?

You guys, go read this post by @codenamesazanka. Machia is so fast. So unbelievably, incredibly fast. "Twice as fast as the fastest train in the world" fast. "Horikoshi clearly did not stop to think about the distances involved here" fast. Three miles in ten seconds fast. It would have been hard enough to square with the needs of the plot that the kids were sufficiently far from the villa to have the kind of time they needed to swing Momo's plan at all, but Horikoshi explicitly letting Machia get right on top of them before the kids even start just makes it completely impossible for me to credit. Machia clearly being slower aboveground than he is when burrowing does not make that much difference to my suspension of disbelief.

My other big complaint? More people should have died, for real. The PLF warriors would not have been holding back. They were ready and willing to kill anyone they came up against. The heroes did have to hold back, because heroes, as we're told over and over again, are not supposed to kill, no matter how dire the circumstances. That difference in ability to exercise force should have been yet another significant advantage for the PLF. I could write an entire list of characters that I think could have reasonably been killed during the raids. That wouldn't be to say that I think any individual, specific character on that list should have died, just that, based on the parameters as they were presented to audience, some number of them should have.

I mean, honestly. How did Horikoshi wanna show us Gang Orca's unmoving claw in the wake of Machia's passage and not have Gang Orca on the list of the dead? How did Fat Gun run right into a mass melee and still have enough fat left over afterward to survive getting trampled by a walking mountain? How did Thirteen survive not getting pulled out of the hospital basement when Shigaraki's Decay hit? How did Trumpet survive getting a staircase dropped on top of him? How did Gran Torino survive a fist through his tiny old man chest cavity?

I could go on and on, but it's not just about the deaths, either. I'm not saying that Kamui Woods necessarily should have died by swinging himself face-first into a blast of blue fire, but I am saying that he should have been out of commission for longer than three goddamn days. You bet your ass I'm saying that after telling us that Hawks' weak point is fire, making us watch him spend at a solid minute or more with his wings wholly enveloped in Dabi's 2000 degree flames, and having Dark Shadow exclaim that his back is completely burned away, Hawks should never have grown his wings back, much less so quickly that they were already visible under his shirt a single day later.

More deaths, more maiming--heck, even more retirements. I'm not saying I love that kind of thing in my fiction--I don't, actually. I think an overreliance on it is a sign of edgelordy nonsense. But the scenario that we had demanded to be treated with the kind of gravity that would have led to such an outcome. To set up a conflict like the raid and have the villains only barely be able to scrape a partial escape, to try to tell us that Shigaraki's victory in Deika granted him such a terrifyingly powerful force only to have them lose every battle they got into, to tell us this was a blow that shook Hero Society to its core, only to be so unwilling to kill or retire any heroes the audience cares about that Midnight is literally the only significant loss… It doesn't work. None of it works.

I don't have much to say on which characters did or didn't get a highlight. I think there were a few more people than you listed that got some good scenes--Tokoyami and Uraraka both got material I liked quite a bit; Dabi famously out-trended the U.S. presidential election on Twitter when he (literally) came clean, and Mr. Compress gave us some wonderfully interesting and characteristically opaque material to chew on. On the whole, though, adding more character moments would only have been dragging out the problem: the scale of the PLF's threat and the HPSC's chosen method of dealing with it are simply incompatible with the feeble "neither side truly won or lost" resolution we got.

NARRATION: You are probably not late, but still your step hurries. There’s a lot of people here and it would be easy to lose sight of each other in this crowd. Luckily, you spot the person you are here to see, right where you agreed to meet.

SPRITE: Fortunato (F), tan lion with black mane. Street clothes. Regular pose.

F: Oh, hello! You’re here early.

NARRATION: You stop to catch your breath.

When you heard there was a book fair this weekend, you figured Shiro would want to go. But he’ll be here later with the others. It was the invitation from Fortunato that made you make up your mind to be here first thing today.

CHOICES:

A. You’re early, too!

B. Thanks for inviting me.

YOU: I know people who would freak out if they heard such a thing…

SPRITE: Smiling.

F: I suppose when you are young, it’s not always a bad thing to believe in school principles. Then, perhaps we should keep this kind of thing a secret between us, yes? At least for a year or so.

NARRATION: Each stall is a fun surprise on its own. From brand-new editions to secondhand used treasures. You find some curiosities to buy, but it’s Fortunato who gets a huge haul. By the midway point his bag is half-full while yours is barely filled.

NARRATION: Other friends and acquaintances prove somewhat pushy as well. Although, buying their chapbooks doesn’t feel quite so heavy.

Finally you both take a seat. You have a soda in your hand, while he opted for a simple water bottle.

F:  Did you enjoy your purchases?
