okay but now I'm so happy I know about Elizabeth Bigley/Cassie L. Chadwick, 19th-century American con artist (okay she was Canadian, but she mostly worked in the US)
favorite thing she did: ran a brothel and then, when she set her sights on marrying a wealthy doctor, pretended to believe that it was a boarding-house for respectable women only to be SCANDALIZED when he told her it was a well-known House of Ill Repute. oh she would never have intended such a thing! he must rescue her from here at once! could she possibly impose upon his hospitality to stay at his large elegant home?
the marriage plan worked

Maybe I'm just jaded but seeing the immense influx of obvious bot accounts sending my mutuals asks that are just obvious scam sob story begging and seeing them go 'yep sounds good! Lemme post this!' is just. It's bots y'all.
"oh this account is vetted!" By who? Someone else who is equally an online stranger? I don't trust like that and neither should yall. It is so fucking easy to just claim 'yeah I'm vetted by so and so!' and if the account in question has thousands of posts you're not gonna go through to find the one username. They're betting on that.
Also, are y'all aware that GFM and pay/pal don't operate in most countries? In order for a GFM to go through there has to be an American (or someone else in a country of their banking operations) and then send that money to the person within ga/za. (Censoring it because these bots love targeting ppl that mention it) If a GFM doesn't mention the relationship between the person raising funds and the beneficiary, THATS A MASSIVE RED FLAG.
if you want to help, cool! Here is a list of organizations that are actually helping people with medicine, water, electricity, humanitarian aid, and other resources that a single family unit cannot and should not be responsible for providing. There are also things you can click to help for free. (And additionally; DO RESEARCH ON ORGANIZATIONS!! Find one you like and give them a much needed boost!! That is significantly more helpful than posting spam bot asks!!!)

Please actually check the people you're posting charity links for or don't do it at all. Scammers are out there and they do not have the moral decency to forego charity fraud.

The fact that so many of the Forbes 30 under 30 turned out to be fraudsters should show us that the idea that everything needs to get done in your 20s is bullshit.

Hey guys, not trying to be rude. But most of those gofundme Palestine accounts are scammers. Most people would not go to a platform such as tumblr. Instagram is the main media outlet for the people in Gaza, along with tiktok due to the high volume of shares and views. Let’s put our thinking caps on here. I know we all want to help. But the copy and paste asks and suspicious emojis? It’s best to not fall for the traps. Some may be real, but the majority are scammers. And someone had to say it! Let it be me I guess
This is a classic phishing attempt, and it’s really unfortunate because it only harms the real people of Palestine trying to get their family to safety. It’s best to share resources and links to official .org sites to donate!

Deleted what in hell is bad.
If you follow my other blog, 4theloveofotome, you know I only like free to play otome games or games that you can enjoy free.
Look at what whatinhellisbad did..
This Nightmare Pass B***S***. If I want to see new stories I can't pull the card anymore. Isn't this a gacha game. Prettybusy/erolabs, whatever the f*** seems to have forgotten what that is. Here is a refresher.
You've probably seen one of these machines in grocery stores, toy stores, and other places. You put a coin in and you get a random toy. Usually, there will be a picture of all possible toys. You keep putting in coins to get the one you want.
In a gacha game, you do the same thing with whatever the free in game currency is. If something is rare, you can pay real money to get it but you can still finish the game without it.
Getting that card you have been looking for is half of the excitement. When you take that away, not only does it make the game a glorified book but it's not even a game anymore.
It's just shopping. I don't know about you, but I came to play a game, not to run errands.
And look at thus. You used to be able to get in game currency by selling pancakes.
Now you just get these, which you can't use to play the gacha for cards.
There have been several posts about boycotting this game and not playing it. But nobody is playing this game anymore. They are just running errands and shopping.
I'm quick to delete any game that does this so this is the end of my blog. Please check out my other blog 4theloveofotome where I review real gacha games. Hope to see you there.

Please do not fall for the recent spambots/scammers
They have changed their tactic up-- it used to be "please help my sick pet" and now it's "please help my family in [war-torn area]"
New blogs with only a few posts soliciting others for money via asks is classic tumblr-scammer behavior. They are appealing to the specific social media concept of activism that gets created by the scammers appealing to the reader's sense of morality (ie "oh no a hurt pet" and recently "oh no a hurt person!")
They are not real. Please do not fall for these scams or put them on other peoples' dash.
People who do not engage with these scams are not uncaring. We would just rather our money go to a genuine cause, rather than a scammer.

every time i see discourse about fundraisers go by on here im just fully struck with the realization that not a single one of you people have either taken a cybersecurity fraud prevention course or bothered to take one singular second to consider the website youre on. this is the broke bitches website. none of us can afford to fund our mutuals' grocery bills, much less entire evacuation funds, and CERTAINLY not FAKE evacuation funds taking advantage of genocide victims. all this shit abt how people are deliberately choosing not to fund every post that passes their dash because they hate palestinians literally just does the work of actual scammers for them by laying the high-pressure sales tactics groundwork, and the "do you guys have any idea how hard it is to keep coming up with new attention-grabbing fundraiser posts?" ones just ring EXTREMELY hollow because YEAH! YEAH I DO! and so does everyone i follow! and everyone they follow! because all of us are FUCKING BROKE and surviving on crumbs! i just saw one that said "i make sure to keep $40 in my wallet at all times so i can give $20 to any panhandlers i see, this is the same" and its like!! good for you, thats very nice, but like!!! you need need NEED to take a step back and realize that /being able to do that/ is a position of privilege, not the default setting to be a good person. i wont discount that some people do ignore fundraisers specifically because of racism because Of Course, but like. a) yelling at them isnt gonna make them stop, or more accurately yelling at /everyone else/ isnt gonna make those people stop, and b) trying to apply that as a blanket motivation for everyone just. realistically doesnt work. not donating is a nonaction, it is the literal default status, and while in specific situations you can use CONSISTENT absence of SPECIFIC actions to track a person's motivations SOMETIMES, broadly speaking that just. doesnt work.
there are 8 billion people on this planet. most of them will never know you exist. of the ones that do, most will not be able to help you. of the ones that can, most will not be on the broke bitches website passing the same communal $20 around. consider your audience and stop shitting on fellow poor people for having the gall to need to be careful with their money. and if you are genuinely only posting your fundraiser to tumblr, like. im sorry, but you need to anticipate not reaching your goal and prepare accordingly. theres a reason the last big scam scandal people talk about actually getting the money is like. all-or-nothing era, as a website none of us have the funds to make that kind of thing happen anymore or the security to risk it. a fundraiser not meeting its goal on here is not a personal sleight against whoever made it, its just how life goes sometimes. and it's unfair and it sucks and we should help however we can, but. sometimes you just arent able to help someone else, and continuing to feel responsible serves only to torture yourself. and blaming OTHERS serves only to move that guilt from yourself off onto another person. i imagine that has to be where a lot of the vitriol comes from, is people who cant afford to donate more getting pissed at people they see as having the funds but choosing not to share them, but again, sometimes you just are not able to achieve the goals you set out towards, through no fault of the specific parties involved.
people on tumblr choosing to buy groceries rather than potentially donate to a scam are not your enemy and are not the ones facilitating a genocide. we're all victims of the same horrific system, the question is just how that system manifests its influence on each of us. poverty kills just as thoroughly as a bomb. everyone is just doing their best to survive, and as much as we like to pretend that everyone should be a perfect selfless angel that puts others before themselves no matter what, humans are by default a selfish species, and it is a lot easier to say what youd do in theory than actually do it. and there's a reason you have to put on your own oxygen mask before helping the person beside you, youre of no help to anyone if youre too dead to do anything.

just witnessed my dad get a call from internet scammers, quietly listen to their questions and then tell the scammer he’s currently in Mongolia building Internet connection towers cause he works in cyber security. after a very pregnant silence my dad went “you have the same name as my daughter, so I can’t be very mean to you but I think you should hang up the phone now” AND THEY DID
