J'ai eu très envie d'écrire ces derniers temps. Parce que je ressentais le besoin de me concentrer sur quelque chose qui me procure plaisir et excitation, et parce que lire chez les autres me faisait beaucoup de bien. J'avais envie d'écrire sur la musique sans parvenir à trouver de support. Je n'ai pas d'album à chroniquer, pas d'artiste écouté en boucle dont j'aurais envie de creuser l'histoire. J'écoute juste des mixes toute la journée.

La pratique est simple mais obéit à des exigences. Contrairement à un album, un mix dans mon cas ne s'écoute qu'une seule fois. L'écoute est toujours active, chaque morceau qui interpelle est fouillé, identifié, la vidéo est débusquée et enregistrée sur Youtube. L'existence d'une tracklist est donc impérative (la flemme sa race de shazamer quoique ce soit). Mais l'immense majorité des podcasts sur Soundcloud n'en fournit pas. Ça me rend dingue, me donne envie d'insulter tout le monde mais il faut faire avec. Les accès de qualité n'en sont que plus rares.

Quand le virage vers ce mode d'écoute a eu lieu, il y a presque deux ans, j'ai été assez fascinée par cette question du rapport au format, des usages qu'on en fait. J'avais envie d'interroger plein de gens sur leur utilisation de Youtube, de Soulseek, de Soundcloud, de Spotify... J'en suis resté à observer ma propre pratique et à garder ces conversations dans un cercle proche. L'envie d'écouter des albums resurgit parfois, quand je ressens le besoin d'une écoute plus diluée, moins aux aguets. Mais les playlists restent mon canal privilégié de découvertes et cela n'est pas sans effets. Il y a d'abord celui de ne s'intéresser que rarement aux albums d'où les titres proviennent. Cela suscite moins de recherche et d'intérêt pour l'histoire et la discographie d'un groupe. Le plus souvent, on en reste à l'amour du morceau lui-même. Est-ce que le rapport à la musique s'en trouve désincarné ? Dans les faits, je trouve que cela implique une nouvelle forme d'attachement.

De la même manière que l'on peut devenir fidèle à un DJ ou à un programmateur de radio, on s'attache dès lors aux passeurs. Aux personnes qui assemblent et publient les sélections. Des selectors de chambre qui mettent de la vie dans d'autres salons. C'est rare de découvrir la bonne personne, quelqu'un chez qui on reconnait des points d'accroches, des endroits où les goûts communiquent. Presque autant que dans la vraie vie. Beaucoup de rencontres chez moi, amicales ou amoureuses, sont marquées par la proximité musicale. La façon dont des sensibilités se touchent et se parlent peut porter une charge affective très forte. (Au point que, lorsque ça ne marche pas à tous les coups, on peut être déstabilisé. Découvrir chez quelqu'un une facette qu'on ne partage pas, qui ne renvoie pas la lumière de la même façon, peut provoquer un sentiment de trahison tout à fait disproportionné) (Mais je m'égare.)

J'ai envie de m'arrêter sur ces rencontres virtuelles, à sens unique, et sur l'identité et l'esthétique parfois très marquées qu'on peut percevoir chez quelqu'un qui fait des playlists sur son temps libre. Avec en exergue un exemple de morceau découvert par leur biais et jamais oublié.

Retour en 2016. Les playlists Spotify de Starsky m'ont sortie de la misère. J'ai pu renouer avec tout un pan de la pop duquel je m'étais coupée pendant des années à n'écouter que de la musique électronique chelou. C'était une source d'eau claire pour une assoiffée. Pop 90's, songwriting contemporain et indie-rock à sous-bassement mélancolique : la dominante rejoignait ce avec quoi je m'étais construite à l'adolescence.
