I feel as though someone's body and how it is shaped gives some testament to their dedication to fitness and health, especially with building muscle. When wanting to get into shape and build your physique it takes time to do so. It has to be a consistent progressive routine that needs to be consistant but also slowly increasing challenges overtime. But once you start to get a physique that you enjoy you respect the work that's put into it alot more. You realize the hard work that's put into getting the look you desire. The dedication and time it takes to build up a body you want. But the kicker to it all is that even if you reach your desired goals, you still need to keep working out and eating healthy to maintain or even surpass your targeted goals. Because if you don't keep up the dedication all your success will eventually fade away. People are going to look at this post and say "what??? What do you even mean??" And the thing is, in regards to weight loss, healthy eating is of course required but sometimes isn't enough because there are healthy foods that are high in calories. Just because it's healthy doesn't mean you will necessarily lose weight. Foods such as milk or avocados, and many others are, although are considered healthy, have high calories in them. So what it really boils down to is watching what you eat and also the amount you eat. And this of course depends on the person as we are all different. But keep in mind it comes back to your calories and how many you are consuming versus outputting. I generally get questions about if someone can build muscle or as much muscle at home versus working out at the gym. And the short answer is yes. But a gym will of course have more options to different exercises you can do which makes it more fun and enjoyable. But that doesn't always necessarily translate to more muscle gain over time. You have to know how to engage your muscles properly and also have good mind to muscle connection which is really the key to allow muscle growth, accompanied with nutrition. Those are the main factors for getting growth with muscle. Everything you eat is made up of caloires. And those caloires is made up of macronutrients and micronutrients. And they are then broken down in your body and stored as energy and fat which perform many functions to keep you alive. So wheather it's mcdonalds or vegetable, ultimately food is processed the same. Now does that mean mcdon alds should be on the menu everyday? Of course not. It's high in caloires and has more preservatives. But certain foods don't need to be villanized and aren't always the route reason to a person's unhealthy routine. It could be various reasons. If you take a balanced approach to your eating style then you will still lose weight and stay in a healthy range. Because overall its calories that matter. And when you decrease your weight through caloire loss then your body begins to detox itself. And if you eat low caloire dense vegetables with your daily nutritional regimen you are even gaining more nutrients your body can use. But ultimately food is nether good or bad. Literally most of the supplements on the market are not needed at all. They are a complete waste of money. Do some of them do what they say they do? Yes to an extent, while also exaggerating as well. But so many supplements either don't do what they say they do or are extremely exaggerated and you simply don't need them anyways. Even supplements like BCAA aren't needed. Can you take them? You sure can but don't think that you NEED to take these supplements or any supplements to see results. Fat burners are probably the worst in my opinion. They do absolutely nothing, especially if you don't hunker down on your nutrition and eating. But Lets say your nutrition is impeccable. There is nothing to prove they work and show they do help with weight loss. I've taken a few of them in the past and found no difference. I was able to get to single digit bodyfat percentage with and without it and again found no difference. But if it does help, its such a small miniscule difference that eating over your caloires would negate any micro positive effect it has. Save your money and buy the essentials at most and pump away. You need and must have goals for weight loss. Because how else are you going to track what you lose and where you started from? Sure you can lose some weight without tracking caloires. But that's not the best plan because when things aren't measured you aren't optimizing your succession rate. But I know it goes even deeper than that. Sometimes there's an insecurity there. You don't like to hold yourself accountable by aiming for weight loss goals because you feel you might not hit them because internally you dont fully believe in yourself. I've come across this so many times with past clients and I never allow that to happen anymore. If we move foreward we need to track caloires and have weight loss goal and also checkpoints. There has to be a goal and there needs to be accountability from yourself otherwise you really won't get as much success as you could have. You have to think of it has having the highest respect for yourself which is keeping yourself structured for the highest succession rate. And if you don't keep track then this sets you up for possible failure which then will put you in a unhappy mood which will lead you to stop training. You have to keep track and measure your goals. Far to often I have people come to me and say how they have plateaued or how they feel they aren't being challenged anymore. This really is an easy fix. And the answer is you need to make your workouts more challenging. Whether it's increasing the intensity or the time or trying a new workout and even adding in new techniques, you have to create more adversity. Because if you don't two things happen. One is that you potentially slow growth quite a bit. And two, it gets boring. You should want to go into your workout and give it the best you can that day. Not everyone has the same energy everyday so just push the best you can. And if you can do that, and not just stop at doing 10 reps, or 12 reps, or 30 seconds, but go beyond that, you'll find your workouts will become more fun, dynamic and have more depth to then abd you will continue to get growth. When it comes to wanting to better your life you need to get comfortable with hearing the truth. As much as you would like to hear praise for what your good at, learn to take criticism for things that you need to change. You have to accept the fact that you are the reason why you are where you are. Whether it's your work, or your kids, or your family, or the last two years because or covid, that's all excuses. The simple fact is you let yourself slip. And now, it's time to get back to high performance again. It might even bother you to read that but that's just to bad because it's the truth. When people first start off on their fitness journey, they think because what they have seen or heard from other people online, in person or from marketing platforms that it will seem like a straight line to reach their goals. And I'm going to tell you, that sometimes that is farthest thing from the truth. You shouldn't and can't always compare yourself to someone else's expectations or even goals they have reached. It could be used as maybe a good checkpoint or idea to help further yourself. But I'm telling you, do not be suprised if what results you think you should be getting don't happen when you think you should get them. Everyone is different and we all come from different backgrounds and walks of life. We have different levels of strengths, genetics, body sizes, mobilities, flexibilities, pain thresh holds, recoveries, strength mind sets, disciplines, life circumstances. We literally all come from different paths so do not get caught up on when you THINK you should or shouldn't get results. Just focus on your goal and keep pressing foreward. Because one thing is for sure, I can't always tell you exactly when, maybe give an idea but not qhen you might hit your goal. Whenever I get asked by people, especially guys, on how to develop a bigger back there are certain exercises and how to perform those exercises I tell them to do. But for the most part, you need to be doing rows. There is so many exercise gimmicks on the Internet that say you should be doing it this way or that way to grow this part blah blah blah. And I find alot of it is nonsense. To keep it simple, if you want to thicken and grow your back, do Seated rows and do alot of them. Keeping your elbows close to your body helps to develop the lats more. Flaring your elbows when rowing targets the upper back more. That's it. It's simple as that. There is no need to add more fluff to it when that's really all you need to know. How to develop good mind to muscle connection will develop the more you do it overtime but to keep it simple, this is all you need to know. It doesn't matter what you are eating, as long as you stay within your caloric range or slightly below you will not gain weight. It doesn't mean you shouldn't eat healthy, not saying that. And this is not even taking into account the calories lost during everyone's respective own daily schedule. The point is whether you eat healthy or junk food or a mix of both, if you stay under or maintain your maintenance you want gain weight. The whole notion of just eating healthy doesn't always translate to losing weight. It comes to the calories you are intaking. And that goes or gaining weight or losing weight. Stop believing these "lose 30lbs in 30 days" or "I gained 30lbs of pure muscle in 6 months" crap. Those stories are exaggerations and lies. They don't exist. You probably won't lose 30lbs in 3 months. And you definetly have not gained 30lbs of muscle in 6 months. Not even a year either. Because putting on muscle requires alot of time and also, you need to activate the muscle properly. Alot of these things you see are marketing tactics. And when I have someone ask me on how much weight they can lose in X amount of time I tell then to focus on the changes you need to make first versus already expecting a result. When I train people, I train them for a lifestyle change. Teaching them how to build better eating habits and understand how caloires work. Getting them to see why you have gained the weight you have and how to keep it off. And also learning how to properly exercise and building a program that is suited for you. N.E.A.T stands for non exercise activity thermogenesis. It's just a fancy saying for when people move throughout the day and lose calories other than exercising. N.E.A.T IS important because it can contribute to weight loss, especially if you are pretty sedentary throughout the day. Depending on what you are doing and how fast your body could burn calories you might expend anything between an extra 200 to 400 caloires. But again that varies per person and their daily movement. Now If you aren't one who moves around because you have a sedentary job such as an office job, you could still move and lose caloires buy adding in cardio and also weight training. You might even still be burning a good amount of caloires through your workout as well. But N.E.A.T does and can play a factor to someone losing more weight. Just remember it comes down to how much you move, how long you move for and how much force is applied during that time. The longer you move, the more weight loss but you should always account for the other two things as well to maximise weight loss. Sorry to say but if your not losing weight it doesn't have to do with your cortisol. It's simply because you are not burning less caloires than what you are consuming. Nutrition is important, and so is being active while also building muscle. The food that you eat and the movement that you do plus what happens in life will contribute to the rise of cortisol but cortisol doesn't define your weight gain. If it did, alot more people would be alot heavier. Also realize that if you do feel lack of energy and lethargic and want to lose weight and don't eat properly or have regimented eating habits then you can be sure thats what's causing your weight gain which could fuel cortisol, but it's the actions and foods you eat which depict your weight. So, in order to start bringing those levels down, start exercising, move around during the day more, eat healthier choices of food, and lift weights. You won't completely change overnight as its a process but that's how you start to move forward in a good direction. How to build good habits and a mindset to keep doing this is another story.
