Batch 14 | SERIOUSLY THO | Bottling Day

I used my funnel again. It was time to bottle some cider.

The FG of 1.000 left this cider with a whopping ABV of 8.14%.

But this time I also used some table sugar to make the cider sparkle (1.5 teaspoons per quart, and 1 teaspoon per 24 oz bottle). Squeezing the air out of the plastic bottles lessened the chance of oxidation (maybe, before) and made it easy to see when a few days later the cider was carbonated and ready to go (definitely, after). Also note that while I did also use the glass Stone growler as pictured, I opened it as soon as I knew the contents were carbonated. This is pretty much the only scenario in which I bottle condition in glass. If you are a new brewer I don’t recommend fermenting in glass at all until you gain an intuitive understanding of the pressures involved. I have never experienced a glass growler breaking (as many have), but I have had the swing top fly off when I opened it and put a dent in the ceiling... not the way I intended to get things popping.

I actually used table sugar just to follow the SERIOUSLY THO guidelines, but happily as a result found it left some much needed sweetness in the final product. The whole thing was quite refreshing, which I tried to capture in a video, but all you see is the following cheesey GIF.

Whatever the case, I highly recommend the batch 14 recipe. My only gripe is that at 8.14%, if I simply try to quench my thirst with a few of these on a hot day, I end up having to back up off of it and set my cup down.

One of the key outcomes of taking Educational Management 210 course is that you will understand the functions of a computer.
