this apartment gets so cold so quickly... it's been, what, three or four days of milder weather - 15-18 degrees, a bit less at night - and our apartment is nearly freezing. I have to sit in a blanket. double socks

borrowed a dehumidifier today because my house is. damp. and nothing ever dries. but good lord this thing is loud. i swear it is vibrating through the ceiling (i am currently downstairs, it is upstairs where the wet laundry is, with the door closed). my house is not large enough to get any further away from it so i guess i just have to live with feeling like i'm living close to but not immediately on a building site? (this is the most comparable vibration experience i can think of)

I knew it'd be a risk getting an apartment with south facing windows and balcony, and a weird bathroom bathtub radiator that's always on, and a canopy bed up in the ceiling

But it's Finland, I know the climate

Except as we all know (and as could be expected), every summer is the hottest summer so far

It's basically been over a month straight of sunshine with just a few short rain showers, and the asphalt, concrete and bedrock keep storing the warmth

I'm managing to keep my main room temperature well under 30 degrees Celsius with blinds and curtains and evening fan and window routine, but it might keep getting worse

Spring basically just consists of strategically having your radiator on and the window open at different times of day to keep that optimal room temperature

I love being in America where I have to decide if the pain of something clearly going wrong inside my body is urgent enough to risk getting COVID at an ER from sick people and doctors who are no longer masking and having to deal with a grossly inflated medical bill that I already know I can't pay because I have no insurance or income currently.

It was in the 40s last night, in the 50s all day today, and we have a frost advisory for tonight.

And my building still hasn't turned the heat on yet. Which, I mean. It's not like I'm gonna die. But I had to put the goddamn space heater on because I didn't want to wear layers in my goddamn apartment. And I don't need my pets being cold either.

I keep seeing those posts that are like "it's 80 degrees in October!" and I'm like NOT IN WISCONSIN IT ISN'T.
