A short story based on @aychama 's royal au and comic.
Part 1

(thank you for being an inspiration, your art and story is amazing and this has been on my mind forever)
✨Disclaimer✨
THIS IS VERY MUCH NOT CANNON FOR EITHER AUs
I do not speak for the creator
This is a fan creation of a fan creation. I do not expect this to ever be cannon and please never treat it as such.
I am writing this on my phone, instead of sleeping, so this will very likely be bad writing and under researched.
If you don't like oc x cannon in any universe, keep scrolling
Ari was watching from afar, he's been a loyal servant since he could remember. Abandoned by his nobal family due to being a hybrid, despite this Ari still did his best to hide his horns and wool-like fur mostly to blend in. Ari is trying to avoid harassment, but his family essentially wiped their hands clean of him...accept for his grandmother. Who took Ari into her care, despite it causing her to be disowned herself, and through many trials and errors. She got a job as one of Narinder's servants and trained Ari so he would be able to support himself after she died. Landing the job as her replacement quickly as all he ever knew was to serve.
He's been loyal...well despite occasionally sneaking off to meet with his "siblings" who are more his close friends. Sal, the oldest is an advisor of Shamura, Kay, is one of Kallamar's husbands, Harper, she's mostly in charge of the farms and villages ensuring they're all running properly, and Levi, the youngest, who was sent by Shamura to protect Leshy and to act as a guard. Despite this Levi acts more as a guide and personal serveant
They all taught Ari most of what he knows now, though most of his knowledge he keeps to himself. Despite being a skilled fighter and having a vast knowledge on medicine, scavenging, and hunting. He only plans to say something if needed.
Despite Ari trying his best to focus on his work. He kept glancing over at Aym who was sparing with a few of the knights. Mentally going over every mistep, wrong swing, bad form. Yeah that's why, he was looking for weaknesses in the knights that needed improving...not focusing on Aym, his perfect form, quick thinking...yeah Ari's not looking at him at all.
Ari snaps out of his thoughts, mumbling to himself before continuing his tasks for the day, though occasionally his eyes wonder back to Aym. He smirks seeing many struggle against Aym. "He's easy if you watch him long enough and not focus on him..." Ari mumbles as he felt his face getting red as he snaps his thoughts back to his tasks. "That's completely ridiculous, I'm a servant. I shouldn't know any of this" Ari says softly to himself, but he can't help but want to spar. But doing so could make things very bad for him as this is knowledge he's never told anyone he has.
Ari tried to get his mind of what was essentially the kingdoms military leader, before getting flustered again. Aym was so nice every time they interacted, speaking occasionally when they were younger.
Later that afternoon, as Ari finished his tasks, he snuck off into he forest. Occasionally he'd travel to the more monster ridden lands, but that was more for a day off. So for now he made his way to a clearing a good distance from the kingdom before reaching into a tree stump, confused. He kept the sword his grandmother gave him...the only sign of his noble heritage...now gone? He panicked, no one could've known about that until Ari heard a voice behind him.
"Looking for this?" Aym asks, his tone dark, protective. Ari knew he was screwed as he turned around, looking at the sword in Aym's hands. A silver handle with a red gemstone, protected by a leather sheath, prayer and symbols of protection and strength in an ancient language.
Ari knew he was fucked, if only he could think of an explanation

Hi, Jenn! Editors have been saying my Adult books seem “young.” I’m not really sure what that means. It’s just not literary enough? What makes something seem young? (Sorry, I know you’re not an Adult agent!!)
If I had to hazard a context-free guess (which might be completely wrong, I haven't read your book!) -- I'd say one or more of these might be the issue:
-- Maybe your characters read young. Like maybe you say they are 30 (or whatever), but they seem to have the concerns / mindset / voice of teenagers.
-- Especially if you are writing SF/F or something of that nature, maybe your world-building is not complex or "deep" enough seeming? Like, for example, sometimes you have a YA dystopian called ESCAPING THE DOME, and it's like "Clarizee lives in this world that is under a dome, the world outside the dome is uninhabitable, everyone in the dome is assigned a job at birth and their life partner at age 15" -- and that's basically all we need know about the world, then it's a plot about how Clarizee doesn't WANT to be a zigko farmer or to marry Baxx next week! So she's gonna escape the dome and figure it out, with the help of her mutant dog and an unlikely ally from the Forbidden Zone! -- but if it was an adult book, we'd know when and WHY the dome was put into place, what the political and societal ramifications of the dome are, how the dome even works, what medicinal properties zigko has, where the corrupt president of Dome City gets his pickled herrings, who ELSE wants to escape the dome, more about the Forbidden Zone and its people, or whatever, and while the Clarizee escaping plot might still exist, the fabric of the whole world would be more complex and Clarizee's teen angst would not be center or the driving force of the story, but rather one thread among many.
-- Maybe, as you suggest, your prose is basic or "just not literary enough" -- but a nicer way to say that is, maybe your prose is tonally more commercial than literary. That isn't to say that books for young people can't be literary, beautifully written and intricate (they often are!), or that books for adults can't be written in a commercial, straightforward and easy-to-digest way (they often are!) -- but rather, perhaps your book seems like it SHOULD be literary, but the writing feels more commercial, or vice-versa. Like Dan "DA VINCI CODE" Brown writes in a highly commercial (simple, punchy, "gettable") way for highly commercial stories -- he's not trying to win a literary award, he's trying to sell a shit-ton of books at the airport. That's not an insult! His writing is perfect for the kind of book he is writing, and his massive success is a testament to that fact. George "LINCOLN IN THE BARDO" Saunders writes highly innovative and finely crafted fiction and wins loads of literary awards -- he isn't trying to write mass market thrillers for the airport crowd. So a George Saunders type book with DB type writing OR a Dan Brown type thriller with GS type writing might be a tonal mismatch -- they wouldn't speak to the audience for which the books are aimed.

This is not my au and not cannon. Never treat it as such
Royal AU is by @aychama
Ari nods, knows telling the truth was the safest option. Not like he had anything to hide. "It's my grandmother's, I can't exactly leave it in the servants quarters."
Aym glared at Ari. "You're aware you are very likely to be killed for this, hiding weapons isn't exactly a good look." His tone was bitter.
"Look in the pouch contected to the sheath." Ari responds, his tone calm. "Why should I trust you?" Aym responds, as he tightens the grip on the sword.
Ari shrugs "You don't have a reason to trust me, but it has a letter proving the King is aware of the swords existence. My only crime is I moved it, for it felt like a waste to let it collect dust." Ari responds, knowing he's likely dead either way.
Aym looks into the pouch and finds a letter, giving permission to keep the sword in a designated spot, locked in the armory unless given permission to move it. "But why let a servant keep a weapon? That's a major risk." He asks, confused.
Ari shrugs "My grandmother said my family had good connections before I was abandoned. That sword has been in my family for centuries and has never broken according to her. She taught me basics and how to care for the sword, but that's all she taught me." Ari wasn't lying but wasn't telling the full truth.
Aym glared at Ari for a moment, unsure on what to do...the right thing would be to report him right? But Ari hasn't shown a threat and wasn't exactly the violent type. He wouldn't betray the king...would he?
"If I confiscate the sword and let you go, we never speak of this again. If I find you're doing anything else, I will not hesitate to have you jailed as you should be. Also I know you watch the training grounds, I want to see you there tomorrow morning." Aym responds before waking away, he knows he's making a mistake. Why is he making such a stupid mistake? He just can't think clearly looking at Ari. His judgement misaligns, but, he wants to see what a servant, especially a hybrid is capable of. It's not like Ari that good...is he?
The next morning Ari does as he's told, heading to the training grounds before the sun is even up and waits. It dosen't take long for Aym to arrive, looking surprised. "You're certainly here early"
"You sound surprised, thought I was going to run off or ditch?" Ari teased.
Aym nods "Actually I did, most smart people would"
Ari shrugs "I have nothing to hide and have no family, I don't fear punishment or death. The only thing I dislike is that you judge my loyalty"
Aym wasn't entirely sure how to respond before quickly pulling out a sword, aiming the pointed end at Ari's neck. Ari dosen't flinch, smirking. "It's never been sharppended, a sword made for training" he responds calmly before grabbing the blade hard, but no blood when he lets go.
Aym smirked, pointing the sword down. "Impressive and lucky guess, most wouldn't be so confident." He says before handing Ari the sword. "Now I do want to see what you were taught and capable of, I'm cerious."
Ari smirks "Aren't you afraid of getting caught mr rule follower? There's a reason I would do this in the woods ya know" he teases. Noticing the slight flush on Aym's face, reacting quickly as Aym swings his sword. Ari blocks it, before kicking Aym's side with a good amount of force. Knocking him to the ground.
"Nice try" he teases, offering a hand to help Aym back up. "I never said I only knew basics, just that I was taught the basics"

This is not my au
None of the characters actions are to be taken as cannon.
This story is not to be taken as cannon
Nothing is cannon and I write this for fun
Sal, Kay, Ari, Harper, and Levi are the only characters I own
Annoyance
Ari looks over at Aym, curious. “What are you do-” before Aym could finish Ari lightly touched Aym’s ear, smirking as it flicked on instinct. Aym glared at Ari, a silent warning to stop. Ari knew he likely wouldn’t get away with it again, but he wanted to test his limits. Later on, Ari waits until Aym is walking alone, matching his speed, which isn't easy considering Ari is far shorter than Aym. Aym brushes his tail against Ari, it’s very rare for him to initiate any affection, making Ari figure Aym was in a good mood…it’d be a shame to ruin it. Ari has a mischievous look in his eye before he pauses, choosing to enjoy the rare moment…for now at least. Wrapping his tail around Aym's before they walk side by side.
Ari waited for another opportunity to mess with Aym a bit, when the opportunity arose Ari brushed his hand against Aym’s ear. He watched it flick before Aym grabbed Ari’s horn, forcing the hybrid to look up at him. “Enough” Aym growled, inches away from Ari’s face. Ari struggled, no one ever grabbed his horns and it was very uncomfortable, especially with how tight Aym was holding on. “Ok! Ok! Just let me go!” Ari begged. Aym shoved Ari away a bit, letting go of his horns, causing Ari to stumble back. Aym walks away, his tail swaying in annoyance, leaving Ari in the hallway alone.
Aym's ear twitched as he tried to ignore his irritation. Knowing Ari would need to be back at his side eventually, Aym was starting to regret making Ari his assistant, not like Ari was able to do much anyways. Instead of stopping rumors more seemed to spread, especially given Ari's background.
Later in the day, Ari looks over at Aym, he wants to ask if he could train with the other knights. It wouldn't be the first time he's asked. He was a capable fighter, though a bit uncoordinated at times, but Ari was still strong and skilled. At least enough to give Aym a challenge.
Aym looked over and rolled his eyes, he knew what Ari wanted to ask. Ari’s been asking for months, but it's not like Aym enjoys getting up before sunrise to train with Ari secretly. Ari was used to getting up that early so it was never a problem for him. Aym sighs before walking over to the hybrid and leans down to Ari’s level. “If I let you join in the training will you finally stop asking?” He asks. Ari’s ears perk up and nods. “You have my word.” He responds excited, tail wagging.
“Remember I will be treating you no different and you'll be held to the same expectations. No special treatment or going easy.” Aym responds with a low growl. Ari smirks “Does that mean you've been going easy on me the entire time?” he teases. Aym snarls. “Keep talking and I'll change my mind.” He hisses before continuing to walk towards the training grounds. Ari follows closely behind, eventually catching up to Aym.
At the training grounds as Aym explains that Ari will be joining them. Ari was taking note of the other knights, a few were glaring at Ari, others whispering, but some who were more confident had smug faces and smirks. Ari knows damn well none of them will show him mercy and Ari is looking forward to beating the hell out of each and everyone of them after years or torment and silence. Ari stands ready, glaring at the knight in front of him. With a dull training sword in his grip, Ari blocks the first attack. He was pushed back a bit by the force, Ari goes easy on the knight regardless. Trying to show mercy, and hope for a challenge. As the fight goes on Ari sees movement out of the corner of his eye before quickly moving out of the way.
It takes only a few quick swings for Ari to knock the sword out of the knight's hand and get him onto the ground. He was shaking, before Aym could speak, Ari for the first time spoke up for himself. “You do not swing for someone's neck unless you're intending to kill them, even in training. You could've killed me and I know that was your intention.” Ari growls. The knight looks almost scared, terrified, a few nearby take a step back while others glare at the hybrid. No one has seen Ari fight back or even speak aggressively, some haven't heard him speak at all. Ari stepped back as he realized his sword was at the knight's neck in a threatening manner.
He took the sword away from the knight's neck, as Ari was mentally cursing himself for Sal's training methods. Ari's instincts and old training took over the moment he truly felt his life was in danger. Aym had Ari step back, keeping a hand on the hybrid's shoulder. “Enough, both of you.” He growls, pulling Ari back and taking the sword out of his hand. Leading Ari back to the sidelines, keeping an eye on him out of the corner of his eye while the other knights trained. The knight who aimed for Ari’s neck, was told to sit back, both not going unpunished. As time passes, Lambert steps forward, asking to spar with Ari. They were curious of what Ari was actually capable of. Aym allowed it, approaching Ari first, “Let me deal with it when things go to far." Aym growls before handing Ari a training sword. Ari nods, before approaching and standing ready once more, Lambert was far too confident for Ari’s liking, and Ari studied how they fought against Aym in the past.
He was a teacher to Harper and Levi when Sal and Kay were too busy, meaning he trained them mostly alone. Ari wanted to point out every misswing and mistake, but that wasn't Ari's job and he wasn't giving Lambert the advantage. Instead Ari judged and avoided these issues, trying to see if Lambert was setting a trap and he was right. They were strong and a good challenge for Ari, he barely heard what Lambert was saying in his focus, listening for distress or panic, a change of tone even but ignoring all else. Only hearing the sounds of their swords clashing.
Ari didn't notice the other knights watching, Lambert was panting while Ari seemed completely unphased. So Ari put his sword to the side, he didn't want to hurt Lambert. But Ari wasn't tired or showing exhaustion. Lambert adjusted themselves, rushing towards Ari once again. Ari jumps out of the way, swiping Lambert's leg in the process. In the process, as they trip Ari stands his tail swaying. Aym is smirking as he watches this, almost impressed how Ari kept calm the entire time.
Later that night Aym leaves his window open, a sign for Ari that it's safe…well usually anyways, this time, Ari wasn't as careful when sneaking in. Ari climbs through the window and brushes his tail against Aym's. Silently asking for permission, Aym snarls and rolls his eyes, but returns the favor. Giving Ari permission to continue, no words need to be spoken. Ari nuzzles Aym, being more aware of his horns so Aym doesn't get hurt.
Later on Aym doesn't push Ari off, despite Ari being covered in thick wool like fur he usually runs colder, especially in the summer. “...You did good today.” Aym spoke softly almost half asleep. A rare moment of praise. Though Ari couldn't tell if it was genuine in the moment. He smiled and accepted it regardless, he could always tease Aym with this later. Right now he just enjoyed being in his embrace, as Ari waited for Aym to fall asleep first as sometimes Aym would start purring. As much as Ari wants to tease Aym about it, he knows he'll never hear it again if anything is said about it. Ari smiled, as Aym started to purr in his sleep, soon falling asleep himself.
The next morning Ari attempted to get out of bed, to sneak out. Only for Aym to grip onto Ari tighter, refusing to let go of his personal ice pack especially with the summer heat. Ari knew Aym would not be happy if he tried to wake him up. Hearing a soft knock at the door, Ari looks up to see Baal poking his head through before looking over. Ari gives Baal a silent plea for help, only for Baal to softly respond with “Good luck.” and shutting the door, leaving Ari to fend for himself.
Ari makes a mental note to either mess with him later or have Levi do it another time. Ari makes another attempt to escape before yelping as Aym pushes him out of bed. “I see you're awake now.” Ari responds. “Leave before you're caught.” Aym growls before going back to sleep. Ari sneaks out, some of the staff notices him. But most have grown used to seeing the hybrid sneak in and out, it's good gossip. Not as good when Forneus starts to catch on and ask questions.
Later, before Ari could even think about sneaking in. Forneus was waiting at the front door and already told Aym to get Ari, Aym soon found Ari and lead him inside. Both of them sitting down on the couch, Baal listening in from a different room, a few different staff members doing the same. “Do you need to sneak through my son's window?” Forneus asks. Ari’s ears were down, unsure of what to say, so he remains silent. Forneus, figuring she wasn't getting an answer out of Ari, looks over at Aym, “You could've told me about this, I'm disappointed you didn't. Did you think I would disapprove?” She asks.
“...I didn't tell anyone in the first place.” Aym responds. “Then do you love him?” Forneus asks a mix of concern and disappointment in her tone. Aym hesitates, he doesn't know, he doesn't know how to even answer. “Why does that even matter?” He responds. Ari didn't expect Aym to defend him, but Ari knew he loved Aym more than anything, not hearing Aym say it back, wasn't surprising to him. Forneus sighed before looking at Ari. “You can come into the front door from now on, you don't need to sneak around here.” She responds. Ari nods. “Yes ma'am” he responds softly. Forneus sighs. “You're free to stay the night if you wish.” She responds. Ari looks over at Aym, before shaking his head. “...I think it's best I leave.” Ari responds before getting up. Forneus nods, not stopping him from leaving.
Days pass and Aym is ignoring Ari, having gone traveling alone this time. Ari went back to his servant tasks to keep him busy before Baal walked over while Ari was leaning against a wall. “Do you think he's still upset?” Ari asks him softly. Baal stops walking before hesitating. “He cares about you, I just don't think he really knows how to express it.” Baal responds before leading Ari to the archives so they could talk more privately. There's a few moments of silence, while Baal does some paperwork, to pass the time. Letting Ari talk when he's ready. “...Do you think he's still mad? He didn't even say he loved me…” Ari asks, a few tears running down his face as he looks away. Baal pauses, and thinks about it. “Give him time, I think he's just unsure and mad about getting caught.” Baal responds.
Ari nods before looking at the paperwork around, he didn't want to be nosey but some of it was interesting. Baal was looking up at Ari occasionally, it felt rude to ask about Ari’s education, most of the public didn't know how to read or write. But Ari's education was a mystery to many, there were no records of a teacher and his grandmother didn't have a ton of time to teach him. Baal figured Ari couldn't do any harm, assuming he couldn't read any of paperwork scattered around. Ari’s ears flicked doing the same math problem in his head over and over before deciding to say something. “...this looks wrong.” Ari speaks softly. Baal looks up, a bit confused before getting up and looking over the paper. Before pausing, Ari was right, he looked at Ari now curious. “Who taught you?” He asks a mix of frustration and curiosity.
Ari’s ears twitch before shrugging, coming up with an answer on the spot. “My grandmother used her connections to get me teachers and books.” Ari responds, not a full lie but also not the full truth either. Sal and Kay were the ones who taught Ari most of what he knows, in fighting, reading, and writing. Sal still sends Ari puzzles or new notes and worksheets with their letters. But due to the high risk and with Sal being so busy that letters from them are rare. Kay will send information about new medical discoveries or medicine recipes when he can but those letters are also rare for Ari to get. Getting letters from Harper was the most common as she's the one who travels the most. Usually teaching Ari about a new plant, poison, or antidote. Levi on the other hand would just send whatever he wanted but letters from him were very very uncommon as he hated writing anything.
Baal was suspicious but nodded, his ear twitching in annoyance of being called out, even if Ari was polite about it. “I need to get a few more things done.” Baal spoke. Ari took the hint and soon left, leaving Baal alone. Ari smirked, though Baal was kinder, both brothers had a sharp response to any hurt pride, even if Baal's was less obvious. Ari kept it in mind, planning to mess with both brothers at a later date.

✨Disclaimer ✨
This is not my au the only thing I own are my own oc's (Ari, Levi, Harper, Sal, and Kay) and nothing else.
Do not take anything in this story as cannon.
A few weeks have passed, Ari was told by the head servant that he was in charge of ensuring 4 important guests are cared for as he was requested due to his low-key status. He knew who it was, smiling as he entered the room to see 4 of his siblings staring at him. They were all close to each other, but they all had no actual relation. Most of them met during childhood and used to send letters back and forth.
They would all try to meet up as much as possible but it was difficult, with everyone living so far away. Honestly Ari wouldn't know how to write or have the education he does if it wasn't for Sal constantly correcting him in every letter they sent back.
He smiles at the memory, as Sal struggled at first to understand that Ari wasn't given a proper and high level education like they were. But once Sal understood, they would take notes from books or on rare occasions they would copy the books word for word into journals before having them sent to Ari.
Kay's grandparents did live in Narinder's kingdom before they died, as they preferred a more simple but comfortable life, Kay's grandparents told no one of their background or status as nobles. They both ran a small shop together, and Kay's parents would send Kay there to help, or get him away from any upcoming trouble or illness. Mostly, fearing for his safety and health.
Kay taught Ari how to treat his injuries and Ari allowed Kay to experiment treatments. Ari couldn't feel the pain anyways so it didn't matter to him and it gave them both time to bond and help others in the process.
Harper's family used to visit the area, she never knew why, still doesn't. But as a child she didn't care or mind, thriving in the new environment.
Her and Ari learned how to hunt together, Ari didn't mind having extra food and Harper liked learning a new and useful skill.
Levi used to only cause trouble as a child as he didn't know anything else after escaping his "parents". Occasionally stealing or pulling pranks, he found it easy to get into trouble…learning how to not get caught was the hard part for him. Ari smirked as he remembers teaching Levi how to pick locks and get his way out of cuffs and jail cells, making Levi near impossible to keep imprisoned as he got older.
Ari watched from the window, he was worried for his King, tail swaying anxiously as he watched the carriages. He knew Levi wasn't going to make this easy either, especially as it's his first time coming along for something like this. Ari was silently hoping he wouldn't be in charge of keeping Levi under control.
Levi left the carriage, Ari sighed, he knew this would happen as Levi was barely dressed appropriately, far to used to not having to care much about how he looks. But Ari couldn't deny how much happier he looked, it's been a long time since Ari has seen him. Levi's clothing was loose and layered, his boots thin and worn. Levi did that on purpose as he never enjoyed shoes, only wearing them as a formality.
He had a few golden accents along his outfit, embroidery that was neatly one and his clothing was at least new and not full of patches and holes. His bone and wooden chimes were carved into more delicate shapes, chains holding them instead of strings and a few pieces of glass, cut to look like crystals. Adding a new sound to him as he walked. Ari knew this was advice Kay and Sal gave him from when Levi first became a jester.
Levi was wearing a cloak, hiding the see through veil made out of moss and old fabric he was wearing. Levi was sensitive to light and normally didn't need the veil unless out in daylight, though he did his best to hide it when in unfamiliar places.
Sal was keeping an eye on Levi, they really were nervous about him being present and even for his safety. Sal was wearing more discreet armour, most of it made and dyed to blend in better with their clothing and made to not restrict their movements.
Their clothing was form fitting, nothing loose or dangling. All dark colors, accented with silver that matched well.
Kay was dressed formally, wearing dark blue, purple, and gold, it caused him to stand out but now to much, wearing a few items of jewelry. A dagger laced with poison on his hip, he silently keeps an eye on Narinder and stays close to Kallamar in a protective manner.
Harper was trying to keep calm, it was bad enough she had to wear a formal dress. But the constant looks she's been getting from others. Harper is aware she's attractive and she hates it. At least she was allowed to pick how her dress was made and the fabric, she picked a more flowy dress with simple patterns and a light but comfortable fabric. Harper looked up, noticing Ari and smiled at him.
Ari returned the smile before leaving the window to return to his tasks.
It wasn't hard to find out all 4 of the others were in the same room, Ari knocked on the door before entering. Levi immediately jumped up and ran over, hugging Ari tightly. “ARI!” his tail was wagging, thumping against the ground hard enough to make sound.
“Levi stop, you're getting leaves everywhere.” Sal responds before getting up from the bed, walking over to Ari. Levi lets Ari go and nods. “Sorry Sal, but we haven't seen him in forever.” Levi responds. “Also you need to be more careful, I didn't even get to shut the door and people tend to talk” Ari responds as he shuts the door.
Sal smiles, looking down at Ari. “It truly has been awhile, I hope you're alright.” They speak. Ari nods, “Yes I'm ok Sal. Anything I should know about?” He asks. Sometimes the 4 of them will warn him of bad things to come.
Sal shook their head. “Nothing I can tell you, Ari.” They respond. Harper nods. “Depending on how this meeting goes, food might be a bit harder to come by. But I'll do my best to make sure that doesn't happen.” She responds. Ari nods “I still have some food stored away from our hangout spot in the woods. I'll see to restocking that.” Ari responds.
Levi nods, “If only you were allowed in the room, I think you actually have good ideas.” He speaks up while hanging upside down from the rafters.
“Levi, get down from there!” Kay shouted. Ari chuckles, climbing up to join him. Harper chuckled as Kay went on to scold both of them from the ground. Sal smirked, watching amused. “Ari don't you have work to do?” They ask.
Ari smirks, “Usually yes but because I was tasked with caring care of the four of you. Everything I'm usually tasked with has been dismissed or lightened, so I have far less to do.” He responds, tail swaying happily.
Harper smiles, “But that's a good thing, means we can finally all spend time together.” She responds. Ari nods. "Almost like when we were kids" he teases.
After some time, Levi gets bored and leaves the room to cause some trouble. Looking around for a high place to climb to, he sneaks his way up the wall, perching up high before waiting. His chimes are silent as he softly chuckles to himself.
Seeing Aym walk by, Levi smirks, waiting for the right opportunity. He wasn't mean spirited, just looking for some fun. “Hello.” Levi spoke, throwing his voice so it sounded almost too close to Aym. He smirked, watching the cat go on high alert and look around.
He kept his chimes silent by holding them before moving to a new spot so he isn't seen. Watching Aym go back to walking past he smirks. “You could be going crazy.” Levi teases, throwing his voice once again.
Ari doesn't take long to know Levi is up to something before he walks the halls. Soon coming across the scene as he watches from below, smirking as he looks at Aym before discreetly pointing at Levi. Levi gets surprised when Aym looks right at him…that's a death glare if he's ever seen one. “I have immunity dear cat, so you can't hurt me.” He responds, teasing before jumping to a new location.
Ari smirks, “I’ll get him down for you if you'd like.” He responds, tail swaying. Aym looks at Ari, “Just don't break anything or cause anymore of a scene.” Aym responds.
Ari nods before looking around and finding Levi's staff, it has the same chimes that he wears on his hip, carved and decorated, it was carved to look like flowers, vines, and leaves. He holds it, looking right up at Levi. “Get down or I'll snap this in half” he responds. Ari was lying, but was also giving Levi an out. Levi threw his hands up in defense. “Alright, alright, take it easy…I'll get down. This place is no fun” Levi responds as he starts to get down.

Nothing in this story is cannon
✨ Start of story✨
Ari was walking through town, enjoying the rare occasion he gets a day off. That was until he noticed his mother out of the corner of his eye, his family started as blacksmiths, becoming nobles and the top weapon sellers and makers in the kingdom, meaning Ari is knowledgeable in the trade as his grandmother taught him what she could and set up apprenticeships for him when he was younger.
Ari’s mother approaches him, his brothers appearing behind him. “You're coming with us.” she states coldly. Ari shook his head. “I've done nothing wrong, stayed away like you told me to.” He responds. “You have nre orders and are to do what you are told.” His mother hisses in response as his brothers grab him. Ari doesn't fight back or flinch, he knows if he fights, he'll be put in jail for attacking a noble, as most would doubt it was in self defense.
“Good” his mother says as Ari is led to his family's home. Before being thrown into the house, where Ari is quickly chained to a wooden support. “What is the meaning of this!?” Ari demands, he's shaking, his mind is racing. “You see, we have some deals and I need a child to…dispose of…so I figured, with some trimming to those horns and strengthening your fur. We could marry you off to some sucker and run with the money and land before they find out you're a dirty hybrid.” His mother responds, glee in her voice.
Ari shakes his head. “No, I refuse, my heart is already taken.” Ari responds. One of Ari's brothers slams him against the floor. Ari lets out gasp for air as his mother stands over him. “This isn't a choice.” She hisses in response before having Ari's brother get off him.
“Someone will be here to clean you up and take care of anything that shows that you're a hybrid, if you dare to speak any longer. I'll find your lover and ensure they're as good as dead.” She responds before walking off, leaving Ari alone.
It's now nightfall, Ari picks at his chains, finally picking the lock and before escaping, looks around the house for anything he could find. If he was here, might as well find any secrets he could before leaving. Ari entered the office, looking through drawers and books until finding letters, back and forth to other kingdoms, confirmation of weapon tampering, and ensuring full support.
Ari continued to look through the letters and paperwork, he thought something felt off about some of the new weapons, cheaper materials, bad craftsmanship. Ari simply stared at it all in shock before finding a blank piece of paper and a pen. He started writing to letter, silently hoping he would be believed, chosing not to run in fear of the evidence being destroyed.
The next morning, Ari tricks his mother, begging her to let him send a letter to a dear friend, even allowing her to read it over first. Only to swap the letters when on one was looking, sending the one including all of the information of where he was and what his "family" was doing.
Days have now passed, Ari was put into formal clothing, his horns shaved down far past a healthy level, almost flush to his scalp, his white fur straightened. Ari hated the formal clothing he was put in, silently wanting this to be over.
He was looked over by the noble who was going to be his new “spouse” Ari couldn't point what kingdom they were from but they were far from local. Ari kept silent, his mother and brothers doing most of the talking, he only shared a mother with his siblings, but to him it didn't matter, Ari didn't consider any of them family anyways.
He could only hope his letter was received and someone believed him, it didn't take long for Ari to notice the sound of horses, more than usual. Ari’s brothers answered a knock at the door, before his younger brother said something to the noble, they went to leave with his mother, before being quickly caught trying to leave through the backdoor.
Ari could only breathe a sigh of relief, as he noticed a few knights holding his brothers down. Smiling when he saw Aym. “I thought you wouldn't come.” Ari softly teased. “You're lucky I had anyone show up at all.” Aym hissed in response.
“Upstairs in the office, has all the letters and documents.” Ari responds. On the outside he looked calm but internally Ari was afraid and panicking, worried that no one would've shown up, or even showed up in time. Ari was afraid that he'd never get to see Aym again, he was still scared this would go wrong somehow and Ari would be taken.
Ari watched as his little brother slips free, Ari steps in front of Aym. Grabbing his younger brother before he could attack him for Aym, quickly bringing his brother to the ground. Ari was only thinking of protecting Aym, as suddenly the power difference didn't matter to him. “Put one hand on him and I'll shove your hand down your throat so far you'll feel your organs” Ari growls.
Ari’s younger brother struggles under Ari's grip before the man can be put into chains. Ari knew the threat wouldn't look good on him, he didn't care there was more than enough evidence and proof in the house to give Ari a reason to act so quickly and aggressively.
Ari was taken back to the castle with his mother and brothers who were staring daggers at him the entire way. By the time they were brought to the throne room, Ari silently knew he was likely done for. His mother attempted to lie her way out of it, claiming it was Ari’s doing, but Ari rarely ever left the castle, and was watched closely by other staff due to being a hybrid, his mother and siblings had no evidence.
“I've heard enough.” The king interrupts Ari’s mother and her basically begging for her and her sons lives…only mentioning Ari to put him to blame. “Ari, do you know these people?” The King asks. Ari’s ears perk up, looking over at his mother and brothers. “The woman is the reason I was born, the other two are only related to me through her.” Ari points at the women, someone he no longer has to call a mother.
“They have never made an attempt to even call me her son until she wanted to essentially sell me to a noble of a different kingdom. Had her mother and I abandoned and disowned just because she chose get rid of me once it was discovered I am a hybrid.” Ari responds coldly, his tail swaying, he was looking at the king, wondering what response would come from him. “You're a traitor and a lier! You had every opportunity to have a good life and you betray your family!” Ari’s mother yells before the king could say anything. “You're a monster!” Ari’s younger brother chimes in.
Ari stared at the three, the women and her younger son now sobbing, he looked the three in their eyes. “You two had every chance to give me and my grandmother a good life. You could've kept me, given me the life of a noble but you didn't. Both of your sons could've helped me but they didn't. You chose to discard me and the second you needed a child to throw away suddenly I'm your son? That's not how it works, I am not and never will be your child, you said it yourself years ago!” Ari growls before approaching the women.
“Interrupt the king again, test me any further and I will happily rot with you in hell knowing I'm the one who sent you there!” Ari shouted as he watched the women who he will never call a mother again and her sons who were strangers to him, were scared of him, they always were scared of him even when they had no reason to be afraid.
“That's enough.” The king spoke. Ari took a step back, he didn't regret what he said at all, ready to face any punishment for threatening or his words. “You three dare to try to weaken my army, work with my siblings and strengthen them instead? Spying and giving them information, betraying me and putting lives at risk.” The king spoke, getting up from his throne. Ari stepped a good distance away from the women and the two men. He wasn't afraid of them, but he was terrified of the king especially when he was angry.
Ari watched as the blood spilled on the ground, now the last surviving member of his family as he looked at the king, Ari was by technically a noble, he always was but now. Ari could potentially take on the role officially. The King looked at Ari, a servant but with every staff he interviewed, the only negative thing he was told was Ari was a hybrid. No one could find anything negative about Ari's work and no one questioned his loyalty.
Ari didn't speak, he left the decision of his status up to the king. “Are you able to take their place?” The King asks. Ari nods. “I have some knowledge, I can try my best or die trying.” Ari responds, he wanted to be a noble, to actually help his king and be more than a servant. Young naive hope? Likely. But Ari wanted to try. The king simply nods before walking back to this throne, dismissing Ari.
Ari left the throne room, a bit shaken up, he wasn't sure how to react, or even how to feel Ari was now a noble at least he thought he was, Ari was at least in charge of fixing the damage the "family" caused…he leaned against a wall. Not realizing how long he's been standing there until he felt someone grab his shoulder. “Ari?” Ari looked up to see Aym, looking at him worried.
Ari teared up, all of his fear, sadness, anxiety, anger, it all hit him at once. “Not here, come on.” Aym lead Ari to a more private and discreet location before nodding. Ari hugged Aym tightly as he cried, Aym ran his fingers through Ari’s fur, growing angry as he could barely feel Ari's horns, Ari’s fur felt more unhealthy and straw like than ever. “What did they do to you?” Aym asked trying to hide his anger.
“They were going to marry me off and run, I thought I would never see you again. I thought I was being sent to my death sentence.” Ari spoke through tears. Aym was angry, enraged even, but he sighed, they were all dead. He only had the shaking hybrid clinging onto him like their life depend on it to focus on. “I will never let that happen, I will never let what happened to you ever happen again.” Aym responded, trying to comfort Ari as he tried to keep his own anger under control.
Ari looked up at Aym, his tail wrapped around Aym's leg. “...I love you, you know that right?” Ari asks. Aym nods, “Yeah I know that.” Aym responds. "Now get off before you leave a wet spot and people get suspicious." Aym growled as he attempted to push Ari away. Ari smirked. "I don't think I will." Ari teased before quickly letting go as Aym brushed over where Ari's horns once were. "No fair!" Ari yelled. "Shut up before someone hears you, come on, I need to check the armory." Aym responds, still pissed.
Ari follows Aym closely, both of them completely unaware Lambert is nearby, and they saw and heard, everything.

Trying something new with this chapter. I tried to study personalities the best I could but we as fans only know so much so far.
An opportunity to get to know each of Ari's close friends. They will call each other siblings but there's no relation, just close friendship.
Part 8 will have more Ari I promise.

Do not treat anything in this as cannon ever. This is a fan creation and not cannon to the official story.
Sal was looking out the window, they were expected to leave that day. A spider with insect wings, Sal was a child of an advisor and a skilled knight, following more in their father's footsteps as a strong and smart advisor, while his mother still protects the kingdom as a knight. While their father passed away a few years ago, Sal was the lucky one to take their father's place.
As much as they miss Ari, they didn’t want to go to this meeting, to try to keep them from being a target. Trying to reason with Narinder was like trying to reason with a wall sometimes, especially when it was with the other kings. Even though they very rarely spoke or were even allowed in the meeting room. When Sal was accompanying Shamura, sometimes they mentally questioned if they were leaving that meeting room alive, or even uninjured.
They sigh, heading down to the carriage, noticing Shamura they smile. “Greetings my king” Sal responds, giving a small bow. Shamura nods in acknowledgement, “Hello Sal, I assume you're going to stand outside?” they ask. Sal smiled and nods, “As long as you allow it my king.” They respond.
Shamura nods, before getting into the carriage. Once Shamura is inside Sal stands on the side of the carriage, stepping on a platform and holding onto one of the bars on the side. Sal does this for protection and so they can be at Shamura's side, it's easier for them and Sal enjoys the fresh air anyways, they were protected from any rain if they hugged closer to the carriage side.
Kay was in the garden, he found it wasn't hard to convince Kallamar to let him come along for these meetings. Kay is an anglerfish with a noble background, his family within Kallamar’s kingdom. Though rumors are Kay grew up in a modest setting in a different kingdom, some say his family adopted him. Kay denies all accusations of such a thing, but there's no proof either way.
Kallamar knew Kay was friends with Levi, Sal, and Harper. It wasn't a secret to the king that the three of them were close. Kay would never hide anything from Kallamar after all…well, with a few acceptions.
The friendship with Ari was secret for Ari's safety. All four siblings were scared of what would happen to Ari otherwise. As all four of them, feared even their own safety if it was found out, though all 4 of them could care less about their reputation, especially Levi. Levi activity ruins his reputation on accident sometimes.
Kay was terrified of what Narinder was capable of, if Ari just took his offer to leave that kingdom, be a servant with him instead…Kay wouldn't get anywhere near Narinder's kingdom willingly otherwise. Shuttering at the thought before leaving back inside to find Kallamar, as his absence was certainly noticed by now.
Levi was walking with Leshy, Levi’s wooden and bone chimes on his hip making a satisfying noise as he walked. Allowing Leshy to hear his location at all times, he was technically a Jester but occasionally he'd help with other tasks if necessary.
Levi is a hybrid of the jumping worms found within the monster areas, Levi was born as many would claim “wild”. He doesn't know who his parents are, Levi was “saved” by a “kind” couple, who used him more as a slave than anything else. He did work hard to get where he was, though he had to steal, lie, and manipulate to get where he is now.
He managed to somehow get enough recognition by performing for money. Finding the bright side of things is one of his best traits.
Though not the smartest or most skilled, he's a damn good jester or at least he thinks so. He's still alive isn't he? Though a lot of people look down on him due to his mix, a hybrid of two what most would call monsters. He didn't care, enjoying that he can dress as he wants most at the time, why dress formal all the time if your King is blind? and Levi loves what he does.
Learning to be a guide for Leahy, he wears his bone and wooden chimes, carrying a staff decorated with the same chimes when out in public. He uses that staff as a tool and weapon.
Levi also learned to make his presence known, footsteps louder, learning how to throw his voice as it's amazing for tricks and pranks. He drags his tail on the ground or makes obstacles like large roots or rocks noticeable by tapping on them.
Levi did these things gradually, though he tries not to baby Leshy, fully aware how capable he is when he needs to be. Levi still has a strong urge to protect him and cared about him deeply.
“Unfortunately, I must remind you of the meeting with your siblings in a few weeks, we’ll need to leave soon.” Levi speaks in a more casual tone. Something he found he could get away with more often.
Leshy smirks, “I hope you have something planned.” He responds. Levi hums in response, he stopped relying on body language a long time ago unless it made some kind of noise or vibration. He never noticed when he made faces, being so used to getting away with it. “Yes, I do, only if you plan to keep me from getting killed of course.” He teases back, having a few...mostly harmless tricks in mind that'll hopefully keep him alive.
Harper is a deer and was a child of a rich family who put her in an arranged marriage, but her future husband never showed any care to her and hated that she spent her time learning to hunt and any time farming. But one day he mysteriously died and the rumor is that Harper killed him. But there’s no proof, and she refuses to admit anything. Farming has always come naturally to her, teaching herself how to hunt and trap, though not an expert she’s quite good at it and proficient enough.
As Harper spent her days helping farmers in the area, sometimes in secret, she was eventually caught. Despite being disowned, she caught Heket's attention, and was allowed to give her ideas. With that Harper gained a job and a good title, despite never admitting it to anyone but her siblings, Harper just wants a simple life, living off the land and helping people. Maybe owning a small shop, not have a big title and constantly having to worry about how she represents herself.
Walking through the halls, Harper entered the throne room. “You asked for me, my king?” She asks. Heket nods, “There's a meeting I'll need you for, we're leaving in a few weeks.” She responds.
Harper tries to hide her excitement. “Is there anything else you need, my King?” She asks in a polite tone. “No, you're dismissed.” Heket responds back. Harper nods, giving a small bow before she leaves the throne room. Smiling as she walked through the halls, she hadn't seen Ari in what feels like forever.
Until she remembers what this also means, Harper always hated formal meetings more than her title, as she’d rather be on the farms and helping the people as at least than she's doing some good. Not dressing up and sucking up to those who would normally not even look at her or give her a second thought. It made her angry to see people suffer for the smallest of reasons, and usually she'd speak her mind.
Harper wasn't stupid and kept her mouth shut when it came to royalty or those in power, though she wasn't exactly lady like or quiet on her days off, and out of sight. Harper was proud of it despite her career and position. Occasionally sneaking to bars in disguise and starting well deserved fights, sometimes getting thrown out. "But that's the fun of it...right?" Harper thinks to herself as she starts to pack a few items she thinks she'll need.

Treat NOTHING in this as cannon
Making sure the knights and Aym were far enough away, Ari drew the bow slowly walking down the line. Using the broken or damaged arrows, and though his shots weren't perfect. He was better than some of the others with arrows in good condition. At least he was able to hit every target.
Ari smiles, he's proud of himself. But something dawns on him, his head hurts, his horns hurt. He winces in pain, sitting down, he hates this feeling. Pain was something that was rare to him. But his horns were the only exception to this.
Ari sits down as the adrenaline wears off, his ears flat and tail curled around his body. He puts his head in his hands, doing his best to calm himself down. Ari feels someone touch his back, he doesn't say anything. Looking up before seeing Lambert.
“Can you stand?” They ask, wanting to get Ari out of here and his wounds more properly treated. Ari slowly nods “...Just give me a minute” he responds softly. Lambert nods, staying with him in silence for a few minutes.
After sometime Lambert speaks. “...You're not the only hybrid.” They say. Ari looked over at Lambert, confused. “...I know that much, though most of them are dead. Where are you going with this?” He asks.
“I'm a hybrid as well.” They respond. Ari felt his anger build up, a hybrid? As a knight? Someone who was so close to the king? He wanted to scream, he wanted to fight. But he didn't, his head and horns hurt far too much and it wasn't worth the fight.
Ari slowly stood up, trying to hide his anger. They had everything he wanted, to protect the king, and serve him. Ari has worked hard, trained, and served his entire life, only to be told he could never be a knight because he was a hybrid, only to stare at the hybrid in front of him.
Lambert went to help Ari stand more steady. “Don't touch me.” Ari snapped. “...Just lead the way.” He responds. Lambert leads Ari to the infermany. “I shouldn't be here, you could get in trouble for this” he responds softly.
Lambert smiles. “The king asked me to have you brought here.” They respond. Ari hesitates, part of him wonders if this will be his death, but he complies sitting down on one of the beds.
A few hours have passed and Ari is sleeping in the infermany. He hasn't had his injuries tended to by someone else since he was a child. It felt weird to have someone else do it. Waking up he looks at the door, overhearing Aym and Baal in the distance.
Ari almost falls back asleep before seeing Aym in the doorway. “Hello” Ari responds as he sits up. That was a mistake, he felt dizzy and his horns started to hurt all over again. He pulled his knees to his chest, putting his head on his knees.
“You should lay back down, I just came to make sure you were still alive.” Aym responds in an almost annoyed tone as his tail flicks. He didn't actually care about this servant right? No he was just doing his job, it wouldn't look good if Ari died from his injuries or was hurt badly.
Ari nods, managing to lay back down. He hated how much pain he was in, he hated pain. But he couldn't help but notice something. Aym looked worried, just for a moment. “Worried I'll drop dead that much huh?” He teases.
Aym glares at him “Don't act cocky, and don't get used to it.” He responds. Ari smirked “Don't worry I won't.” he responds, he figured Aym wouldn't check on him for any other reason.
“Since you're well enough to be smart I'll be on my way.” Aym spoke before leaving back to Baal, who was waiting in the hallway. “What was that about?” Baal asked. “An incident at the training grounds, they shot one of the servants who was collecting arrows. I was just making sure that servant was ok.” Aym responds.
Baal looked worried. “But why would they shoot a servant in the first place?” He asks. “He's a hybrid and the knights decided he should be shot for it.” Aym responds. “He didn't even show to be a threat?” Baal asks. Aym shakes his head. “No he didn't, he was sent to collect the arrows. He wasn't doing anything wrong, honestly I'm surprised he kept as calm as he did.” Aym responds.

✨Disclaimer✨
This is not my au and not canon.
I cannot write fighting scenes for the life of me so forgive me for that (It's short anyway)
Aym was in a state of shock, before getting up himself. "You're not helping your case"Ari smirked "If you think I have ill intent I have the exact opposite in mind." He responds, tail swaying. "You're just easy to predict when it comes to training. You underestimated me, if I wanted to kill you, I could've." Ari speaks in an eerily calm voice before continuing. "I wish to protect the king, not harm him, no one expects a servant to know how to weld a weapon or even fight above a basic level. I didn't pursue to be a knight or even a guard...not like I would be given a chance to anyways." Ari has a hint of sadness in his tone.
Aym looked confused at Ari's words. "What do you mean you'd never get a chance?" He asks. "You're clearly capable to some extent." Aym was almost ashamed to admit Ari was one of the few to catch him by surprise.
Ari chuckled softly, parting his fur to show small horns growing in, though the chips and cracks showed that his horns had been cut and filed repeatedly. "I'm a hybrid, it wouldn't look well on the king if I was put in any powerful position. I'm lucky to even be a servant. I hide it for a good reason, but it's no secret among the other staff." Ari looked calm, but there were small hints that the fact that he would never truly fight and defend in a non-secretive way was upsetting him to a degree. Ari's ears twitched, his stance more defensive, he wasn't looking Aym in the eye all while watching him simultaneously for any sudden movements.
"So you're giving up because you're a hybrid? You settled? Why not at least try if you truly wanted it? You are clearly very capable, you learned how I fight by simply watching me...it's almost a waste" Aym states almost defensively. It's unbelievable how someone would just, settle, and give up, over something so small that could be hidden so easily.
Ari looked at the sword in his hand, before gripping it tightly. He had a dark look in his eyes, glaring at Aym. Ari wanted to shout at him, how he was abandoned by his family, and his grandmother was disowned and cut off for raising him. How she used what little power she had to get a job as a servant. How Ari had to work himself nearly to death when she got sick, only to watch her die in the end...he was only 12.
He wanted to scream...but he didn't, taking a deep breath before speaking. "I'm sorry...just...hybrids aren't usually given an easy life even if the hybrid part is not obvious at first look." For the first time, there was a shake to Ari's voice despite his calm tone, he was upset, enraged.
Aym could tell there was more to the story but knew better than to push any further. "Now actually show me what you're capable of before anyone wakes up." Changing the subject, though Aym wanted to know more...he'd have to look into it later.
Ari smiled, before swinging his sword, he was going easy on Aym, not showing his full strength to see just how much Aym was able to take. Aym blocked it with his sword easily, smirking. "You told me not to hold back, now it's your turn" Aym nearly orders.
Ari was trying to ignore the fact his face was getting a bit red before shrugging. "You asked for it." He responds before swinging at Aym hard and fast. Aym nearly had time to dodge it before Ari swung again, Aym blocked the attack with his sword. "Dam he's fast." Aym thought to himself, he could barely get a hit in, the style was almost familiar. But Ari was proven to be unpredictable, his form changing. It was confusing and unfamiliar. Until Aym noticed an opening and swung, hitting Ari in the side hard enough to leave a deep bruise. Yet Ari didn't even flinch, taking advantage of Aym's shock to strike him in the shin, with a sharp hit to Aym’s back as he fell, knocking him onto the ground hard enough to have the wind knocked out of him. Aym gasped for air as he looked at Ari who was standing victorious over him.
"Ready for round two, or is your ego as bruised as your leg will be~" Ari teased as he the dull blade aside, and helped Aym sit up. He knew...well hoped Aym could take it to an extent, otherwise, he could've gone easier on him. Chucking to himself as he saw Aym’s look of annoyance at his small teasing. It was almost cute…almost, Aym was still looking at Ari in surprise and annoyance as he caught his breath.
"You didn't even flinch, I hit you...you didn't react, Most would've been on the ground after a hit like that." Aym spoke in a shocked tone as he caught his breath. Ari smirked, his tail swaying proudly.
“I have a very high pain tolerance, it’s been with me since I was born. So honestly I felt the impact but no pain, it’s just kinda more of a small discomfort” Ari responds confidently. Aym just looked at Ari in pure shock. “You mean you can barely feel pain? Like at all?” He asks.
Ari nods smiling. “I can’t feel temperature, thirst, exhaustion, or hunger unless it’s severe, so I have to remind myself to do…anything to live. But yes, not feeling pain unless it’s extreme is a plus. No one knows why I am the way I am. But it’s a curse as much as it is a blessing, if I forget to eat or drink for a long time I won’t remember until I’m dying from thirst and hunger.” His tone was serious, as he knew his weaknesses as much as his strengths.
Aym was looking at Ari like he wasn’t…alive…was he alive???? Who the fuck can’t feel what…any human should be able to feel? He needed to think before responding. How do you even respond? But…Ari would be unstoppable on the field with something like that. He didn’t even need training, and he didn’t look half bad…Aym snapped out of his thoughts, flustered.
“Just…stay out of trouble, as I won’t do you a favor next time.” Aym responds before picking up both swords and walking off. Trying to hide the fact his shin hurt. Ari nods before looking at Aym.
“...Thank you, I haven’t spared in a good while…I forgot how much I missed it” Ari spoke before giving a small bow of respect and walking off to start his daily tasks before Aym would respond. Getting just out of sight before falling into a flustered mess. Ari could barely focus with Aym so close…but Ari snapped himself out of his thoughts. What was he thinking, a hybrid servant and a military leader? Ari knew even with his Noble past, it meant nothing, he wasn’t going to jeopardize Aym and his entire family for a crush…yeah just a crush is all it is. This’ll pass with time, he had work to focus on anyway.

Please treat nothing in this story as cannon
Later that morning, Ari watched the training grounds. He knew Aym was irritated that a servant got the better of him. The knights were suffering for it, as Aym was more rough with training. Ari simply watched from the window as he always did, but he couldn't help but find it cute that he was so upset that a servant could best him. Smirking as he would tease him about it...if he wasn't afraid of having his ass thrown in the prison. Before he heard someone walking in his direction and quickly went back to work, not wanting to get caught staring.
Aym dismissed the knights for the time being. He hated it, but Ari was on his mind. He wanted to know more...no, Ari is a servant, most of them don't get good starts in life. There's nothing special about him, he had more important things to focus on.
Ari very much stayed out of the gossip circles, he knows the basics of what's going on. But he finds them a waste of time and disrespectful to the king...plus he never had a good feeling about the new knight who's always at his side. Sal warned Ari that the knight was bad news, but couldn't say more, so Ari kept an eye on them.
He could care less who the king loves, he's bearly seen him as Ari's tasks and work usually means the two rarely cross paths. Ari can count on his hand how many times they've spoken. He's a hybrid, so he's given the hard labor and dirty work, meant to be kept out of sight by the head servant's orders.
Not that Ari minds, he's used to being alone and has always been the outcast. He noticed Aym and Baal speaking to each other, choosing to pick his battles and turns back around. Heading back in the direction of the King and the knight at his side, knowing he could be screwed either way. But there's no way he's going to be able to resist teasing Aym and though Ari doesn't fear death, he still chooses life.
Later that afternoon, Ari notices some movement in the halls, which is not unusual. But he has a bad feeling about it and follows the movement, deciding his task could wait for a moment, keeping a grip on the dagger he carries with him. Before noticing that knight going into the archives. Ari follows, leaning against the door frame as he watches silently, his tail swaying before finally speaking up. "What the hell do you think you're doing?"
Lambert jumped and looked over at Ari in surprise. Thinking quickly before he spoke. "The king sent me here." they respond. Ari smirked, it was kinda funny how easily they were startled. He looked for any unusual behavior from the lamb. But any he notices could also be passed up for the fact he just scared the hell out of the knight.
"What are you doing here anyways?" The lamb asks. Ari shrugs "I was heading to another task and noticed you snooping around." he teases. The lamb glared at Ari. "Shouldn’t you also not be in here?" they ask, in a cocky tone. Ari scoffed "I’m in the doorway, not the archives. What are you looking for anyways?" He didn't want to help them but he also had nothing better to do.
The lamb now had to think fast, what the hell would they be sent to get? Ari smirked "You don't remember? Or are you just somewhere you shouldn't be" he teases. They nod. “...I did forget” the knight responds. Ari smirks, “Good luck explaining that.” He teases before turning around to leave the area. He needed to entertain himself somehow, and who better to mess with than one of the knights. He’s watched the lamb on the training grounds a few times, though he’d much rather watch Aym. His face getting red as his mind wanders off, before noticing the lamb catching up with him, wasn’t like they were hard to notice with that bell around their neck. “Is there something you need?” Ari asks politely, he was still a servant after all. The knight looked at Ari. “I don’t think I’ve seen you around before, what’s your name?” They ask, walking at Ari’s side. The knight was slightly taller than Ari, making him have to look up.
Ari didn’t have much to lose, plus a name could be changed anyways. “My name is Ari,” he says calmly, tail swaying. The lamb smiles. “My name is Lambert” they respond. Ari smirked, he was never going to use their name correctly, but oh well. “Where are you heading to anyways” Lambert asks. Ari shrugs “I was sent to do a few tasks the other staff hates. It’s usually messy or hard labor but I don’t mind, I just do what they need me to. It passes the time and means I don’t need to really care to much on what I look like. But I need to go back to my tasks and I know the King is likely waiting for you to come back with whatever it was you were looking for.” Ari speaks before walking in a different direction, leaving Lambert alone.

Ari spent months doing extra work, making or fixing a few items for money. He saved up his money for months, Ari knew it would pay off in the end. He bought fabric and thread of the highest quality he could afford, ensuring it would be soft and warm.
He took a gamble on the measurements, Ari mentally thanked Sal for teaching him to be visual. Ari would spend late nights working on two cloaks, working in secret, one black, the other white. He added embroidery to both cloaks, making sure every stitch is neat. Not that Ari could afford to make mistakes on this.
It took him weeks of sleepless and late nights of working, learning what exhaustion felt like, but Ari finished both cloaks in time. He folded both cloaks, wrapping them with paper he drew patterns on, labeling them accordingly, before it dawned upon him. Where the hell is he supposed to leave these? He couldn't let the two find out he made these.
Ari didn't want to think about the wasted time and work as they'd never be able to wear them in public if it was discovered a hybrid made them. He thought for a moment before having an idea. He knew Aym and Baal were going to be in the archives later that morning.
Ari snuck into the archives and left both labeled gifts where they would find them, before sneaking back out of the archives. Going back to finish his tasks. For the first time, Ari listened in on the gossip. He smiled knowing that the twins enjoyed the gifts. It hurt him to know he could never tell them he was the one who made them.
Ari kept his head down, doing his usual work, knowing Aym and Baal were trying to find out who made the cloaks. He knows it would take awhile before they find out, if they find out at all.
(Time skip for fluff reasons)
Years passed, both twins never knew who made the cloaks. Well…that was until Aym found Ari curled up in his. He looked a bit annoyed. “I need that ya know.” Aym said. Ari smirked. “You’re my partner, I made it, it smells like you, I'm allowed to steal it.” Ari teases.
Aym looked lost in thought for a moment as he came to terms with what Ari just said. “You made them?” He asked, shocked. Ari lightly chuckled “Oh that's right I never told anyone. I'm surprised you two never figured it out. Yes I did make them, honestly I've been thinking about making you two new ones.” Ari responds.
“...Why didn't you tell anyone?” Aym asks. Ari shrugs, “You know how hybrids are looked down upon. I wanted you two to be able to enjoy the cloaks without judgement, I know most of the staff is involved in gossip. If anyone overheard, if I even told one person, the news would've spread fast.” Ari responds honestly.
“I don't need you to protect me, or my reputation.” Aym hissed. Ari smirked, “Yeah well…I will anyway.” Ari coos. Aym sighs as he walks closer to Ari. “I still need the cloak.” Aym responds holding his hand out. Ari’s ears go down. “But it's still warm and it smells like you.” Ari whines teasingly, as he grips the cloak tighter around himself.
Aym was a bit irritated, Ari has gotten far too comfortable with pushing his limits. He sighs. “Fine you win, I'll go freeze outside.” Aym responds before going to leave the room. Ari gets up, walking in front of Aym to stop him, standing on his tiptoes to reach Aym's shoulders, wrapping them both in the cloak.
“...I don't want you to freeze.” Ari spoke softly. Aym sighed, how Ari could both piss him off and calm him down he would never understand. Aym picked Ari up, holding him close, Ari was freezing cold to the touch. It made Aym almost grateful for the cloak around the two of them.
“You're freezing.” Aym complains. Ari smirks in response, “Even in the middle of summer you say that.” Speaking softly as he nuzzles in-between Aym's neck and shoulder.
“Ari, I need to be leaving soon.” Aym mentions, rolling his eyes as Ari whines and grips onto him tighter. “Ari, I swear I will pull you off.” Aym growls in response. Ari sighs, “Fine, but you'll pay for this later.” Ari responds before nuzzling Aym, letting Aym put him down, handing him the cloak.
“Promise me you'll come back safe.” Ari responds, looking at Aym worried. Aym smirks. “Don't worry about me, I can take care of myself.” Aym responds before leaving the room. Ari smirked, making a mental note on how he was still in one piece.

I actually finished this chapter earlier than expected.
I realized I got sidetracked and will be bringing the focus back to Ari and Aym after this part to move the story along.
Ari kept a hold on Levi's staff, and an eye on Aym. As much as Ari disliked Levi picking him as a target for his mischief, he didn't want to see Levi hurt. “Don't do that again unless you want to see the sharp end of a sword. Don't believe your immunity will fully protect you.” Aym responds sharply before leaving.
Levi rolls his eyes, smirking. “What a no fun buzz kill, hm?” Levi teases before Ari wacks him on the head with the staff. “Ow! Hey, give me that back!” Levi growls, yanking his staff out of Ari's hands before rubbing his head. “Don't talk about him like that.” Ari responds, looking away. Levi smirks. “Damn Kay owes me money.” He chuckles.
Ari glares at Levi. “I know about that bet, and I don't have a crush, now shut up.” Ari growls. Levi shrugs. “Sure ya don't, but you defended him before ya defended me and your face is about as red as a camellia flower.” He says, keeping his teasing tone tail swaying. Ari glares at Levi, wanting to wack him again. “Shut up!” He growls, before walking off.
Levi rolls his eyes, taking his hood down, lifting his veil to get a hint on how bad the light is before putting it back down, it's still far too bright in here. He sighs, putting his hood back up to keep from being attacked and goes to find or cause some more trouble.
Until he notices someone he recognizes, that lamb, they were with Narinder earlier. Lambert was their name right? Levi watches from the distance, the other knights seem to be giving them a hard time, he can bearly hear from this distance...something about a hybrid. Levi notices Lambert's horns, ah, makes sense. He keeps silent, watching the other knights walk away before walking over. Staff across his shoulders with his arms resting on it.
“Hm, it seems most of this place is no fun.” He teases, smirking looking over at Lambert. “But don't let em get to you, could be worse. You could be a monster hybrid.” Levi chuckles, before looking at Lambert who was silent…yeah he knew that one might not land. He takes off his veil, keeping it discreet and hidden in his sleeve, bright lights gave him a headache and he was essentially blind. But anything to get a smile right?
Levi took off his hood, showing that he was a hybrid. One that could actually get him killed. He was grinning, tail swaying, he couldn't see Lambert's reaction, putting his hood back up so he could at least see a bit better and not have a headache later. Not surprised to see Lambert looking shocked. “Can't get a smile out of you either huh? Am I truly that bad at my job?” He teases.
Lambert looks at Levi. “No, you're not, just…”
Levi sighs, taking his staff off his shoulders. Moving slowly as to not come off as a threat. “I know that it's easier said than done but don't think about it to hard. The future is not in your control, but nor is the past, that's why I take every moment with as much pride and joy as I'm able. There's a bright light causing every shadow, you just need to find that light.” Levi grins looking at Lambert who was smiling. “Oh now I do my job.” he teases.
Lambert looks at Levi. “Don't you have somewhere else to be?” They ask. Levi shakes his head. “Technically yes, but it's not like I'm allowed in “very important meetings.” “ Levi mocks. “Plus it just means I can cause some trouble.”
“What do you mean by that?” Lambert asks, they sound more aggressive. Levi played with his staff in his hands a bit while chuckling. “Easy now, I don't do anything purposefully destructive…anymore.” Levi responds before continuing.
“My jokes, pranks, and tricks are all in fun, with the occasional chaos. Not mean spirited, if I know I went too far, I'll help to fix it if I can. It's not funny if no one but me is having fun…plus I really enjoy living and breaking out of cuffs and jail cells is more effort…and arrows than it's worth, and I promise to not cause…too much chaos. I don't intend to make your job harder. I do that enough with the knights at home~” Levi chuckles.
Lambert still doesn't trust Levi…at all, as Levi is one of the closest to King Leshy. But he hasn't caused too much harm…yet anyways.

This is not my au, I never claim this to be my au
Please treat nothing in this story as cannon
Ari was told to stay by the training grounds for the day, someone needed to pick up the arrows and no one was risking the other servants' lives. He didn't mind, actually enjoyed not watching from the window. Despite the glares and whispers from a few of the knights, as it's not a huge secret he's a hybrid despite trying to hide it.
Things were mostly going well, Ari was able to easily collect even stray arrows that find their way in the dumbest of spots. “How the fuck do you miss the target so bad you hit high into a tree? I could shoot better with my eyes closed” Ari said softly as he made his way back. “They're probably doing it on purpose.” he continued to talk to himself.
When he made his way back he went back to leaning against the wall, he didn't even realize how closely he was watching Aym. He's just so used to doing it, but it was so much more obvious when not from the window. Ari looked down, studying a broken arrow in his hand.
He eventually looked up, noticing the King and Lambert approaching. But knowing that everyone has stopped shooting, and double checking, doing a mental headcount. Taking advantage of most of the other knights being distracted, Ari starts collecting arrows. Not aware one knight made the decision to take advantage of Aym being distracted with the king unable to see any of the knights, one of them shoots an arrow at Ari.
But Ari doesn't react as he feels an arrow hit his side, close to his ribs. He pulls the arrow out, before continuing. As Ari knew that doing this would freak the other knights out and he knew lashing out would only get him punished, before feeling another shot hit his leg.
Ari pulled the arrow out of his leg as he heard a few of the knights chuckle, one approaching pretending to show concern. Offering to help him, Ari simply smiles before speaking. “I'm a hybrid, you shouldn't waste your reputation on me, if I got any blood on you I wouldn't forgive myself and you'd never live it down.” Ari responds in a soft but calm tone, before being harshly kicked by that same knight, hitting his recently cut horns on the ground causing them to bleed again. “At least you know your place” the knight responds before chuckling.
But Ari simply gets back up, his freshly cut and broken horns now showing, his white fur turning red as the warm liquid causes his fur to curl again.
That's when Ari sees Lambert looking over, he looks away going back to picking up arrows before hearing footsteps and feeling his wrist grabbed.
Freezing in place just in case it's someone else trying to mess with him. Gods forbid Ari suddenly moves and someone says he hurt them. Before he looked over, seeing Lambert before looking at their face, seeing something else. That look of pity and worry that he hates, he'd rather be looked at like he was a disgrace.
“Don't ruin your reputation, and risk your job for me. Plus you don't want to get blood on yourself, I'll take care of my wounds in a minute.” Ari responds in an almost bitter tone, using his free hand to pick up any arrows in reach. That's when he sees the King and Aym walking back over, noticing Lambert at Ari’s side they both head in their direction.
Ari didn't want to look up, he doubted either of them would care. Despite this the King and Aym got closer. “What happened?” the King asks, both him and Aym noticing Ari is bleeding.
Ari hesitated for a moment. Would anyone even believe him? He's a low class servant and a hybrid, most would think he lied.
“They shot me while I was collecting arrows.” Ari responds honestly, he wasn't telling them everything. Not because he didn't want to but out of fear no one would believe him.
Aym looked at Ari’s injuries, getting more angry as he knew that this was more than a simple arrow shot. “That's more than an arrow shot. Tell us everything.” Aym demands. Ari’s ears were down, he was scared, as he was taught no one would believe him. He had to look out for himself, that no one would care and the truth would only hurt him.
“...They kicked me and I hit my horns on the ground, they'll stop bleeding soon.” Ari responds. The King looked at Aym. “See that this is taken care of, I don't want what happened getting around. I trust you'll handle it accordingly.” He speaks before looking at Ari. “You're not to speak of this to anyone else, is that understood?” The King commands. Ari nods “Yes my King I understand.” He responds.
Lambert went to follow Narinder, that can't be it, they have to do something more. Leaving Aym and Ari alone, but Aym was far too blinded by anger. Turning to the knights, one very brave soul decided to speak up. “No one noticed him there, it was an accident. No one kicked him, he simply fell.”
Aym was trying to keep calm, before approaching the knight. “You dare to get smart with me! How dare any of you shoot one of our own and lie about it! Can none of you tell the difference between an enemy and an ally?!”
As Aym was shouting at the knights, Ari was back to the wall, stitching his own injuries with a small sewing kit he keeps on hand. He could care less about the blood dripping from his head. Knowing the bleeding has almost stopped and he'll wash it off before going back inside, Ari didn't even know if he was allowed to leave.
But Ari’s eyes kept landing on a bow, left alone for the time being and a few arrows in his hand. They were bent, or small bits broken but could still be used. One that hit Ari’s side was missing the metal tip. “I'll dig that out later” he thinks to himself before picking up the bow.

A frequent meeting
Tw mentions of bullying, violence, injury, death
Ari walked through Darkwood, his tail swaying as his ears twitched, remaining on high alert. His robe’s hood hid his wool-like fur and small horns. He was heading to meet his siblings. Though not biological, they were still the closest people he knew, as they were almost all the family he had left. Arriving at Levi’s cult, he was met with the members of the cult looking at him quickly before looking away, minding their own business. It’s always been this way throughout all the cults, taught to respect both their gods, other gods, and others. They do not need to be kind but at least tolerate, and should only worship their god. It made sense to all five of them, it's what has worked for thousands of years.
Approaching a clearing in the cult, Ari smiled at the sight of his siblings. Sal, the oldest, is wearing dark clothes that were form fitting, almost tight against their body, boots laced tightly, laces out of the way. They are a spider with insect wings, a disciple of Shamura, usually helping the bishop keep things in order, owning the second largest cult of the group. Kay, the second oldest, an anglerfish, is wearing loose but covering robes covered in shiny materials and jewelry. Boots covered in fine details, laced in an elegant pattern. He was trying to take off most of his jewelry, something he usually did when not on duty, preferring reserved clothing in his spare time
Being a disciple of Kallamar, Kay is the most outgoing of the group, taking on the role of being the medic of the group, all while running the largest cult. Kay was known for making great discoveries mostly medical, Ari on the other hand was the middle of the group, not the youngest or the oldest. He worshiped Narinder…or who most call “The One Who Waits”. Though instead of running a cult, he decided to help the most recent vessel like his grandmother did before him. Wearing traditional clothes that were mostly seen before Narinder was imprisoned. It was something Ari studied heavily, making all of his clothes himself. Robes, boots, clothing, all made perfect to the finest detail. It was part of what Ari took pride in.
Harper, a deer, was the second youngest, wearing a solid color, flowy pair of pants that almost looked like a skirt, a blouse, and short boots, she was currently sharpening one of her sickles. Keeping two at her side along with her bow and quiver. She was the only disciple and cult leader, worshiping Heket who wanted to run a town and not a cult. But she never fought back, being the last of her family, she felt she owed her family to be a disciple and cult leader. Harper enjoys worshiping and what she does, but she'd much prefer to hunt, farm, live peacefully, and stress free. Then there was Levi, the youngest a mix of the worms you'd find in Darkwood.
Levi was a disciple and guide for Leshy, running a cult of his own, though if you asked any of the others they'd tell you he runs chaos that somehow works. Barely giving sermons, barely any order or rules. On top of refusing advice from anyone, somehow the cult still works. But no one can blame Levi considering his parents were…less than helpful to say the least. Wearing loose and layered clothing, showing wear and tear, being covered in patches, grass stains, some small holes and light ripping.
Levi prefers to wear trapeze gaiters or nothing at all, hating shoes. His hat had a vail, keeping his eyes safe from the light that he's sensitive to, even under the trees in Darkwood he needed to protect his eyes. Levi was unique, keeping chimes made of hollow wood and bone attached to his hip. They made noise whenever Levi moved too much or walked around. He had the same chimes on his staff, tail swaying. Levi was raised to be a guide as well as a disciple, so he would drag his tail on the ground, letting the spike at the end make a dragging sound. His chimes give away his location, hitting large rocks, roots, or fallen trees with his staff as a warning. Even clearing a path, this was something that was engraved into his nature.
“Look who was finally allowed out” Levi commented with a grin, snapping Ari out of his thoughts. “It's not my fault I need “permission” to leave” Ari responds. Kay gave a gentle smile “I'm just happy you made it at all, things haven't exactly been slow or peaceful.” He mentions, since the Lamb became the new vessel things haven't exactly gone well for the 5 of them.
“How have they been treating you? I know the followers were giving you trouble last time we spoke” Sal spoke. Ari looked to the side, tail swaying. “Look we just need to give the Lamb's cult time to…adjust? I'm sure the Lamb will accept my help and things will go well! I just need to put up with the bullying…and violence, for a bit longer” Ari was nervous, trying to convince his siblings this was a good idea in the first place was hard enough.
But with the Lamb’s followers bullying and fighting him, despite Ari ignoring them and not fighting back, wasn't easy. Especially with the Lamb refusing his help, barely even letting him explain himself or who he was. Kay looked pissed for a moment before calming down, his expression soft. “Ari just because your pain tolerance is high doesn't mean you can just take constant beatings. It's not good for you mentally or physically. I don't want to have to drag you out of that cult just to save your life, I know you don't fear death but…it's still not good for you.” Kay looked upset…he was honestly trying to keep himself from finding the cult and burning it to the ground.
Harper looked up from what she was doing “We worry because we care about you Ari. I'd hate to see you dead because you did something stupid, I truly believe you're not going to get anywhere with this. It's a waste of time in my opinion” she mentioned before going back to sharpening her sickle.
Levi looked nervous “Plus the Lamb wants to kill the bishops…the ones we worship. I thought we all agreed to find a peaceful solution to freeing Narinder and keeping everyone alive. You remember that, don't you Ari?” His tone was innocent, almost childlike. Ari nods. “Yes I do remember that Levi but…I want to honor my grandmother, the closest I could ever be to my god is helping one of his vessels no?”
Sal chuckled “You're falling for the same tricks I taught you to not fall for, watch it or you'll be as stupid as the rest of the Lamb’s followers” they teased. Ari sighed, looking almost defeated. “What am I meant to do? I can't just sacrifice myself and beg to become a disciple, I'm not helping by worshiping on my own. It's not exactly like I can fight the bishops myself…I don't know what else to do” Ari sounded defeated, his ears were down, tail almost between his legs.
Levi snuck up behind Ari, pulling his hood down before looking shocked “You cut your horns!” Ari jumped, nearly tackling his brother to the ground before being held back by Kay who was now inspecting Ari's horns. Ari struggled to get out of Kay's grip but failed, finally staying still in defeat. “You've also not been taking care of your fur, it's still straight in some places…you're hiding your lamb side.” Kay growled his grip tightening
“I don't have a choice! I'll be killed for being a hybrid, or seen as some type of idol, that's not what I want! I want to start at the bottom just like everyone else.” Ari responds, but he doesn't dare look anyone in the eye. He never hid his lamb side, even when lambs were hunted. Sal looked almost heartbroken “Yet you said the day you cut your horns is the day you give up your faith and who you are, that's exactly what most cults do! They break who you are so you look like everyone else.” Sal looked upset as he spoke.
Kay was still studying Ari’s horns. “You didn't even cut them properly, this isn't healthy.” Kay mutters under his breath. Harper nearly crushed the sharpening stone in her hand. “You're. Leaving. That. Cult. Or so help me I will follow you back and tell Heket myself where that cult is and watch it burn to the ground!” She yells, normally a calm person, she's just as protective of her siblings as Kay is.
Sal stood up “Enough!” Sal shouted. “Kay, let Ari go, Harper take a deep breath.” They responded sternly before approaching Ari as they were rubbing where Kay was holding him. Looking at Ari in the eyes before speaking. “Are you truly happy within this cult? Or at the very least do you really feel this will help your god? Do you think you're doing the right thing?” Sal asks.
Ari looks ashamed before speaking. “I'm not happy, but I do feel this will help Narinder in some ways…but I also have a bad feeling about it. I don't know if I'm doing the right thing” Ari responds in a soft tone. Sal nods “You're young, never got to run a cult or be a disciple, it's about time I let you learn on your own. I do not support your choice, but I will not repeat history. I will be here to help you after you fall but I will not be pulling you up, you're digging either for treasure, or your grave. No matter what comes you must deal with the aftermath.” Sal responded in a serious tone before continuing. “But I will not let you die or be seriously hurt, once you are at serious risk we are stepping in and when we do you won't like it, understood?” they ask.
Ari nods. “I understand…thank you for being there for me, and believing in me.” Levi snuck back up behind Ari. “But enough of being serious!” That does it, Ari tackles Levi, quickly pinning him on the ground. “Don't scare me!” Ari yelled
“It's my cult. I can do what I want!” Levi responded, laughing as he managed to get out of Ari’s grip. The two started a sparring match while the other 3 watched. Sal smiled, looking at Kay. “Something's never change hm?” They ask. Kay chuckled and shook his head “No, some things never do change. At least we're all still close and alive” he responds.
Harper smiles as she puts down her sickle and sharpening stone, putting her other sickle down. That's when Ari notices “Levi!” He responds before getting hit in the face with a tail. Pushing his tail aside he looks at Levi “You stupid walking bush with eyes, Harper is putting down her shit!” Harper now had her quiver set next to her other weapons, before running over. Leading both boys to make a run for it as she chased them. “GET BACK HERE!” Harper yelled after them.
Sal smiled, looking at Kay once again. “We might as well join them?” They teased. Kay smirked. “Want to team up again and show them why we're the oldest?” Kay chuckled. Sal nodded, both of them separating to make traps and capture their other siblings, this was a game the 5 of them played often even as kids. Even when all they had was each other, things were quite nice at say the least.

A peaceful moment
Sal was in the library, writing in their journal, using the book next to them as a reference. Sal was almost using their writing as a way to study, using a new topic they're not very familiar with and using their writing to become more familiar with it. Sal felt free to do what they wanted with their time, they felt happier and a lack of pressure for the first time in years.
Shamura wasn't too far away, occasionally they would look over at Sal. Since Sal no longer had their parents controlling how they spent their time. Sal has relaxed more, and was almost an entirely different person, the change is slow, subtle, but not unnoticed.
Shamura approached Sal, expecting the younger advisor to be studying, but somehow they weren't surprised to see Sal writing instead. “Sal, a word?” Shamura spoke. Sal looked up at their king and nodded, putting their pen down. “Yes of course my king.” Sal responds, expecting to be told to follow. But that never comes.
“You seem different, less willing to study or train. It's unlike you.” Shamura speaks. Sal nods, they figured they would be asked about the change in behavior at some point. “My mother and father encouraged every second of free time I had to be used to train or study. I thought with my father and mother gone as long as I kept up with my training and studies it would be ok to write occasionally.” Sal responds, a bit more willing to stand up for themselves to a point.
Shamura nods, before sitting across from Sal. Watching as they write, but Sal felt something was…off. They got up, excusing themself for a moment, mumbling about forgetting something in their room, before leaving. Sal enters their room, grabbing another book from their desk and opens a box, pushing a some coins aside, before opening the secret compartment, and grabs one of the bags, filled with some crushed herbs that Kay had been giving them. Sal then approaches a servant they trust, passing the bag to them discreetly. The servant knows what Sal is asking without a word needing to be spoken.
Sal returned to the library, sitting back down, they're able to play it off at least to their knowledge. Sal gained a sense of when Shamura was going to have a migraine, so they talked to Kay, as Sal needed herbs that were tasteless and dissolved in hot water. Something to at least relieve the pain a bit, as Sal hated to see their king suffer.
Sal had a servant, one that they considered a friend. Trusting them to put the herbs in Shamura's tea before it was given to them, far from a simple task. But Sal was willing to take the fall for it if either of them were discovered. Sal continued writing, even after Shamura was given their tea. They didn't really look up, Sal didn't need to as that uneasy feeling went away. Even if they were discovered, what Sal was doing was harmless...at least that's what they believed.
Time passed and Sal was rereading the same passage over and over, something seemed off, looking at their reference before rereading their writing. It should be right…but this can't be. “Do you need help Sal?” Shamura asked, snapping the advisor out of their thoughts.
“...This just doesn't seem right is all.” Sal spoke. “Like it's written wrong.” They said as they passed both their journal and the book so Shamura could see. Sal was never ashamed of their mistakes, believing everyone makes them. Sal taught themselves to ask for help before making any major mistakes, so to Sal, this wasn't entirely unusual.
Shamura hummed in response. “Are you sure you read it correctly or in its entirety?” They ask. Sal paused before reading over the entire page again and flipping over to the back…honestly that made more sense.
Shamura pushed Sal's journal back to them. “Even with your excitement to write, ensure you're getting your facts in full, not just in bits.” They speak. Sal nods. “Thank you, I won't forget.” Sal responds before fixing their writing.
Sal took a moment to stretch, not realizing they've been writing for hours now. Getting up they put the book back in its place before going to put their journal and personal book back in their room. “You can stay if you wish.” Shamura speaks. Sal looks over noticing, Shamura looking up from their book.
Sal sometimes swears Shamura could see through them, Sal shakes off that thought before responding. “I have some tasks that need tending to my king, I will return once they're finished.” Sal responds, they didn't want to stop writing, but they didn't have a choice.
“Very well.” Shamura responds. Sal grabs their journal and book, putting them back in their room before leaving to attend the rest of their daily tasks.
