An internet purchase to acquire another beer on the list. Drunk at home with a late tea on a gloriously hot day.

The book says: Clear golden colour in the glass. The taste is a slight combination of the fruitiness that one might find in a Hefeweizeen with the bitterness one expects from a pilsner.

They say: Our aromatic pilsner possesses a delicate malt flavor combined with a fine bitterness, derived from the highest quality hops from the Hallertau at a refreshing 30 IBU. The first impression on the palate is pleasant and satisfying, followed by the balanced bitterness and aroma of the hops, which is more floral than tart; with its luminously golden yellow color, this an impeccable example of a traditional Bavarian Pils.

I say: It poured a lovely bright gold with a very thin white head. The scent was of malt and pils yeast with a hint of dark fruits. There was a very pleasing mix of flavours; some nice bitter pilsner flavors with a touch of fruits providing an almost sweet and sour finish. Really well made hybrid of styles.

Fuck. How the hell did it take me so long to taste this? Believe it or not, my pops is actually the one who introduced me to this beer which A) makes him fucking awesome and way better than your dad and B) makes me happy that I can still be introduced to new beers that I have passed up so often in the past. The only thing I really am not liking at all about this beer is the fact that I have no god damn clue how to pronounce it but I guess when my mouth is full of beer I don’t need to do much talking. This was brewed under the purity law of 1516 which is basically a German law that said beer had to made with water, barley, and hops (no shit right?) and even though it pretty much seems like common sense, it’s still way better than that bullshit purity nonsense that the Jonas Brothers were into. What a bunch of fucking prude douches. This has a huge rush of banana flavor to start with a nice sweetness before some clove-like flavors join in to balance things out and add an additional layer to this before some wheat and more banana mixes in to wrap things up. I really have to apologize to these guys for passing up their bottle for so long but now that it’s my dad’s favorite beer, I have a feeling I’ll be drinking this way more often. I don’t care if this is your first day to the craft brew scene or if you’ve been in it for most of your life, this beer needs to be tasted by you immediately because it is probably the best example of the style I’ve ever had. Se dice que la cerveza es la bebida más antigua de la humanidad. Sus orígenes se remontan al año 6000 a.C cuando en el sur de Mesopotamia los sumerios descubrieron una bebida cuya popularidad se extendió por todo el mundo. En la actualidad existen miles de cervecerías y muchas de ellas han logrado mantenerse en activo durante muchas décadas e incluso siglos. Pero ¿cuáles son las cervecerías más centenarias que aún siguen produciendo cerveza?

Las siguientes cinco cervecerías son consideradas las más antiguas del mundo aún en activo:

Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan

La abadía benedictina de Weihenstephan fue fundada en el año 725 d.C en Baviera, al sur de Alemania, y alberga la fábrica de cerveza más antigua del mundo en funcionamiento, construida en el año 1040 d.C. En la actualidad, la cervecería es propiedad de la Cervecería Estatal de Baviera "Weihensephan". Todavía produce millones de botellas cada año y sus cervezas se encuentran presentes en más de 120 países en todo el mundo.

Cerveza desacada: Weihenstephaner Vitus (7,7%) es una típica cerveza bávara de trigo de estilo Weizenbock, elaborada la Ley de la Pureza de 1516. Su sabor es más dulce que el de otras cervezas del mismo estilo, ya que en su elaboración se utiliza una cantidad mayor de malta y lúpulo. Su maduración en frío tiene lugar en las bodegas del monasterio a unos 15 metros bajo tierra. El resultado es una cerveza con aromas frutales y cítricos y sabor suave y afrutado.

Augustiner-Bräu Wagner KG

Los monjes de la orden de San Agustín comenzaron a fabricar la cerveza Augustiner en 1328, 600 años después de Welhenstephan. Tras casi 500 años de producción, el proceso de secularización provocó que los monjes abandonasen la abadía y el estado se hizo cargo de ella. La cervecería se trasladó a la calle Neuhauser Strasse en 1817. Finalmente, en 1829, la familia Wagner se hizo con el control del negocio y lo trasladó a su ubicación actual en la Landsberger Strasse en 1885.

Cerveza desacada: Augustiner Lagerbier Hell (5,2%) es una Münich Helles de baja fermentación, ligera, suave y refrescante, de aroma a lúpulo alemán y sabor dulce a malta con notas a cítricos y hierbas. Es considerada una de las mejores cervezas de su estilo.

Stella Artois

Stella Artois es la cerveza belga más famosa del mundo. Sus orígenes se remontan a 1366 con la fundación de la cervecería belga De Hoorn en 1366, situada en la ciudad de Lovaina. En 1708 Sebastian Artois entró a trabajar en la cervecería y unos años más tarde, en 1717, compró la cervecería. Es entonces cuando fue nombrado maestro cervecero y puso su nombre a la fábrica de cerveza.

Cerveza destacada: Stella Artois (5%) se lanzó al mercado en 1926 como cerveza navideña y tuvo tanto éxito que acabó siendo una cerveza permanente en el catálogo de la cervecería. Posee un bello color dorado, aromas a hierbas, cereales y levadura y sabor suave y equilibrado a malta y lúpulo.

Grolsch

Grolsch fue fundada en Holanda en 1615 por Willem Neerfeldt y su cerveza es reconocida mundialmente por su sabor y carácter. Las cervezas Grolsch se dejan fermentar de forma natural y su producción tiene lugar en gran parte mediante métodos artesanales. En 1897, Grolsch introdujo la distintiva botella verde con su característico tapón mecánico (swing top bottle).

Cerveza destacada: Grolsch Premium Lager (5%) es una cerveza rubia de baja fermentación, de color dorado, aroma a hierbas y lúpulo y sabor suave y muy refrescante. Su final es afrutado y amargo.

Der Weihenstephaner Weizenbock fließt in trübem Goldgelb ins Glas, mit Aromen von Banane, Malz und Trockenobst. Geschmacklich geht es dann kräftig würzig weiter, weiterhin viel Banane und fruchtige Noten. Der Nachtrunk ist nur leicht herb. Mehr als solide gemacht. 7/10

Freising: Im fresch „a Nackerts“

Das ist einzigartig in ganz Deutschland: Das fresch hat jetzt sein eigenes Bier. Möglich wurde dies durch die Zusammenarbeit der Freisinger Stadtwerke mit der Bayerischen Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan.

Bis es so weit war, hat es natürlich einige Zeit gedauert. Bei den Freisinger Stadtwerken war schon während der Planungsphase des fresch die Idee eines hauseigenen Saunatrunks entstanden. Da die Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan bereits seit der Eröffnung den gesamten Gastronomiebereich im fresch mit Bier versorgt, war es naheliegend, den Versuch gemeinsam anzugehen.

Über mehrere Monate feilte man an der individuellen Bierkreation. Für den neuen Sauna- und Wellnessbereich im fresch sollte es ein alkoholfreies Bier werden – so viel war von Beginn an klar. Das Team im fresch und die Braumeister der Bayerischen Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan wurden sich schnell einig, dass die Frische eines Weißbiers perfekt zur Hitze in der Sauna passt. Und so riecht es auch. Man nimmt dezent fruchtige Noten und einen Hauch von Honig wahr. Nach dem ersten Schluck bestätigt sich das: frisch, leicht, eine geringe Hefe- und Malzsüße sowie eine Honignote. Ein alkoholfreies, unfiltriertes Weißbier ist es geworden – „a Nackerts“.

Beim Saunieren ist es wichtig, dass dem Körper die durch das Schwitzen verloren gegangenen Nährstoffe wieder zugeführt werden. Von nun an gibt es hierfür ausschließlich im fresch „a Nackerts“. Warum aber der Name? Das Bier ist unfiltriert und alkoholfrei, ist also quasi nackert. Das passt natürlich wunderbar zu den vielen tausend Saunagästen, die im fresch etwas für Körper und Geist tun, und das natürlich auch meistens nackert.Das fresch ist damit das erste Bad, das ein eigenes, individuelles Bier zum Ausschank bringt. Und nicht nur das: Auch spezielle Aufgüsse wird es mit dem Bier geben – wenn das keine großartige Kombination ist.

Part of a Beers Of Europe internet purchase to acquire a few more beers on the list. Drunk at home with Sunday lunch.

The book says: Golden in colour and cloudy from the yeast that remains in the bottle. On the nose, malt sweetness; on the palate, a cluster of spicy, clovelike notes before a bittersweet, spicy finish.

They say: Cloves are readily perceptible in the flavor, with a hint of banana. Full-bodied and effervescent, the fine bubbles of carbon dioxide create a foaming sensation in the mouth. Vitus doesn’t taste like a conventional strong beer, but rather more like a premium, fruity wheat beer.

I say: A modest head with very good retention. The colour was a hazy pale amber. The aroma had notes of banana with a side of apple. The taste too was of fruit and spice. The banana here is less dominant than in the aroma, with the other fruit flavors mixing in more strongly, and the spice is there all the way through.  The body is substantial, a filling beer.
