Alright, finished the first episode of Girls Band Cry.
I suppose I should start with the important bit first: This show hasn't actually been picked up by any streaming sites in NA. So unfortunately, there's no official way to watch it subbed without taking to the seas and such. It's been a long time since I've seen a series just fall through the cracks tbh. And It doubly sucks for this series since I really enjoyed the first episode and thought it has some potential as a show.
While the models themselves could def be a bit higher quality, the actual animation of the characters themselves were fluid af. Easily up there with something from Studio Orange in terms of crisp CG movement and expressiveness.
Solid enough start as a series though I suspect I'll basically be the only person watching this due to it not having official licensing and the general aversion to CG anime weebs have... God, this is going to be another BBK/BRNK for me, isn't it?...
Also I suspect I'm going to be gaining a large collection of anime girls flipping the bird by the end of this anime...

(The Monster Strike anime will take a break this week and not debut a new episode on the following day.)

The story is set in New York which is lit up with Christmas lights. Tokyo Metropolitan Police officer Akari Kido is directing traffic while on her international exchange training program, when a witch-like character pulls a "Christmas Party" prank. Just before a runaway trailer truck smashes into Akari, a mysterious girl suddenly appears and shouts, "I'm going to protect New York and Akari!"
Megumi Han plays Akari Kido, Ai Nonaka plays Apple, and Eri Kitamura plays Liberty.
Daizen Komatsuda (BBK/BRNK) directed the anime at SANZIGEN Animation Studio (Arpeggio of Blue Steel - Ars Nova, BBK/BRNK, ID-0). Yoichi Kato (Yo-kai Watch, Aikatsu!) wrote the script with project planning by Teppei Sunamura (Monster Strike). Haruka Sagawa adapted the original character designs by POKImari for animation. Jin Aketagawa directed the sound, and Ryo Sakai composed the music. Nao Hirasawa produced the anime with mixi's XFlag Studio (Monster Strike).
Real life wise? Haven’t met anyone like that yet. Online wise, my friends that I love to chat with. Fictional wise, currently Eugene hehe :3

Yo if you need something to tide you over until the new RWBY season, check out Bubuki/Buranki (bbk/brnk). It has a similar visual style, team-oriented story, and great villains. Plus mechs and magic \o/ (sorry for all of the anon recs- seems like it might be your thing tho~)
That actually caught my eye when I was looking into new series, it’s good to hear it’s something worth recommending!!
My cosplay from last year’s Anime Boston. I was cosplaying Kogane Asabuki from BBK BRNK. I handmade everything except my wig. The bag pack was my favorite piece to make. Although it was a challenge to alter the pattern, it was extremely satisfying when I finished.
I think I might see spider-verse for a third time, I love it, but just change two things:
Miles kills the spider that bites him - I know it’s a plot contrivance so he can find the spider later, but he’s such a Good Boy and doing that is weirdly dickish. Just flick it off your hand?
Sort out Peni’s aesthetic - she feels like a ‘westerner doing anime’ on the most superficial level. It just has a sense of a lack of care compared to the other characters. Like maybe reference a specific series or artist rather than having this sort of flat generic look that doesn’t really look like any anime? Or reference a modern-cgi anime approach, like BBK/BRNK or Land of the Lustrous.
Eg. her intro moment where she leaps onto screen throwing a peace sign and shouting ‘hajimemashite’ - I don’t think I’ve ever seen an anime character make that entrance, but I feel like I’ve definitely seen the western japanese schoolgirl stereotype character do that a lot.
Just tweak that slightly - she leaps onto screen standing on her robot shouting ‘Sp//dr and I are the defenders of neo-manhattan!’ or something similar instead of unsubtitled japanese and a peace sign - that would be cool.
