I’m Maggie (Magui), from Argentina, in my 30s, just enjoying the creative burst this show (which I love very, very much) gave me until it petters out. I’ve been in a loOOooOOoot of fandoms under different usernames over the years and I tend to delete stuff from the internet without much warning, so save what you like (but don’t repost, please!)

when did you watch bad buddy/join the fandom?

I watched it from episode 1 as it aired and could feel the brain rot spreading week after week but didn’t write fic until the day after the last episode came out, and I don’t think I posted any drawings until one or two months later? But I have the first couple of doodles I made on an old sketchbook after the first ep! (note I needed to write their names to remember what they were)

Off the top of my head (and in chronological order): the trashcan scene in ep 1, the bus stop role-play, rooftop kiss, the last scene/montage in ep 7, the simultaneous parent confrontation and rooftop meeting in ep 10, the silly guy convo at the beach, the last scene with the tin cans on ep 12 ;_;

one thing you would change about the show if you could

I think everyone answered the same thing but the whole Wai conflict and how they resolved it (including maybe Pat getting shot, though at this point would it really be BBS without Pat getting shot?)

'knitter pran thots' is ofc specifically for u, even though i will probably ask you for help in coming up with a knitting pun for the title lol. its about the shape of Pat and Pran's love and how invested they are right from when they start to date. the starting snippet:

Paa always tells Pat he gets too invested, too quick when it comes to his relationships. Pat's not sure why she bothers—he can’t help it that he loves so quickly, so largely, so loudly—but there are times when he wonders what she might say about him and Pran and the shape of their love. Pran, who’s always been Pat’s largest and longest investment, whose mere presence is its own gravity for Pat.

Pran loves to knit. He likes the way the stitches clear his mind, the way the yarn slips soft over his fingers, the satisfaction of a project borne before his eyes. It’s something he shyly tucks away from others into the hidden corners of his room, his feelings tied to yarn hidden the same as all his others, only recently revealed to Pat during their last movie night. It takes gratuitous application of his puppy eyes and pleading questions, but Pran soon begins to bloom the more he tells Pat about his favorite yarns and tricky patterns. 

Like always, Pat dives in head first and deep. His search history is a dictionary of knitting terms, his online carts are filled with yarns and needles and patterns. Eventually he even finds his ways over to the forum boards, where several aunties and cousins are delighted to aid his quest in learning more about his boyfriend’s favorite hobby.

and then Pat's going to learn about the boyfriend sweater curse. he's not superstitious, per se, just also vvvvvvvv wary of ever being considered Pran's bad luck jinx again :C and Pran's going to gently take his face and be like "the boyfriend curse is only a problem for people in mediocre relationships. the knitter spends a lot of time and money making a mediocre guy a sweater that he doesn't ever appreciate, then the knitter realizes they don't have to settle for someone half-assing a relationship, and a breakup follows because their relationship already had issues that the sweater issue exposed. but i don't have to worry about that, because you're a sticky nuisance i've had my whole life. now, i have three patterns to modify for your stupidly huge shoulders, so stop squirming or i will tie you up 😤"

and Pat's like 🥺 owh, this is our forever 🥰 and everything is soft and happy

soft boy lies is HERE and brb, currently laughing over how i'd left off some of the smuttier WIP titles yet the first 2 asks were about the filthiest WIP on the list ajfhjf (i'll finish a smut fic one of these days I SWEAR, they're just stupidly long orz)

akdfjk you actually know about 'CODE CRQCKED LIVING LARGE', i just have a wonky title!!! it's the fic about bby!Pran & Pat inspired by that time my mom taught me how to forge her signature when i was seven !! the doc has that title because i've actually had this story idea since before episode 6, i just hated the way it was coming out and had finally moved the WIP to the discard pile a few weeks ago. but talking to you about it finally got the wheels turning, so i started a new doc to rewrite the old mess it used to be 😂

gonna try to summarize this idea for ppl outside our DMs, but basically my mom taught me how to sign her signature when i was seven as a 'fuck you' to a teacher that made me cry. so im projecting that experience onto Pran. then Dissaya thinks it'd be hilarious to send her lil bby out to sign for a delivery for her, so Pran and Chai go to inspect a delivery and bby!Pran v carefully inspects a like. hardware delivery or whatever next to a straight-faced Chai before signing Dissaya's name for the order while the big burly delivery guys look on v bemused

but Pat sees Pran doing that and he puffs up because he wants to do Big Important Grownup Stuff too!!!! but Ming doesn't get why Pat's trying to insist on being there for a delivery and after the last time when Pat got underfoot for a lumber delivery and nearly squished, Ming's not going to let him anywhere dangerous. so he sits Pat down in his office to stay there, bby Pat's like 😤 fine, i shall do OTHER Important Grownup Stuff!!!!

and scribbles all over Ming's paperwork because he is the Best Helper

its not until Ming comes back to fetch Pat that Pat stops to think "wait i should've asked first D:" and he and Ming just kinda. stare at each other for a hot minute before Ming suddenly doubles over and starts laughing. like shit, his kid just created a week's worth of work and sleepless nights to fix this mess, but by god is his son the cutest and sweetest kid??? he laughs about it the whole way home and thru trying to explain it to his wife, and the next week he gets Pat his own lil hardhat and clipboard so Pat can follow the store workers around and do Big Important Grownup Stuff. mind you, Pat doesn't actually know what he's supposed to do with this stuff, so he mostly follows a worker around for a little bit drawing dinosaurs or stick figures and giving the doodles to the store workers when their tasks are finished. these doodles are coveted by the workers, he is their favorite kid in the world

still working out the ending, but it's gonna be Pat & Pran post-Singapore return hearing these childhood stories from the senior employees and they're both simultaneously delighted & horrified because on one hand, childhood stories that they didn't previously have full context for, but on the other, "why do you all even still remember this, pls stop giving my boyfriend blackmail fodder 😭"

to be honest, half of the time staff posts pics like these I struggle to tell if it's patpran scenes we didn't get or ohmnanon being Like That but either way, it just makes me crave more patpran.. i miss them so much

22:  A creation that was difficult to make (but worthwhile!) This bb set is the first thing that comes to mind. The forth gif took an embarassing amount of time to perfect, and I still wasn’t completely happy with the end result. I discovered the fade to black effect accidentally, and wanted to encorporate it in the set, but then I spent around 8 hours perfecting it, and making sure that the text and scenes aligned, and no matter what I did, I wasn’t completely satisfied with it. Even so, I’m so proud of it and I think it ties up the entire gifset so well ♥

What has been the BL that took you by surprise this year?

I find it really difficult to remember my expectations before a show to have an immediate answer to this but maybe Vice Versa...? I think I knew it would be interesting with the alternative universe setting, and even though the show didn't explore that enough I was overjoyed with the design of the show. The details, the colours, Fuse's t-shirts... I was also pleasantly surprised by the improvement in Jimmy's acting since playing Wai in Bad Buddy.

What has been the BL that you felt a bit disappointed with this year?

The only DNF I've had this year was Coffee Melody - so I guess that was disappointing - but of the ones I did actually finish I think the two Star and Sky shows...and Cutie Pie to some extent. With Star in My Mind, I had been so excited to see Joong again but the story (and Dunk's acting) didn't live up to my expectations. For Sky in Your Heart, I was hoping for a Tale of a Thousand Stars quality show but both Mek's acting and the production fell short. Cutie Pie started SO GOOD - I adored the design and was so excited about Zee (and Poppy!) - but the story was so slow and contrived I ended up so frustrated at the missed potential.

What has been your favourite BL this year?

God, it's so hard for anything to top the chokehold Bad Buddy has on me BUT if I move that one aside, there have been others that I have I loved and each for a different reason...and since these reasons make them equally fantastic I'm going to list them all: The Eclipse (the story, the acting, the symbolism); Kinnporsche (for how batshit crazy it was...and for PeteVegas); Semantic Error (just them, the enemies to lovers dynamic, the grumpy/sunshine pairing, the colours!); Vice Versa (for all the reasons I mentioned above); and Love Mechanics (just VeeMark's chemistry).

Favourite BL couples (not just of 2022)?

Okay, I originally listed 14 and realised that was too many, so I've narrowed it down by half: PatPran (of course); VeeMark (the chemistry, the angst; the disasters that they are); AkkAyan (communication kings); MingKit (from 2moons2 - where my love for Joong began); AePete (the softness!); Jack and ZhaoZi (the domestic mercenary and the joyfully innocent police officer); and RamKing (we've been robbed of their continuation. ROBBED!). Oh and them:

If you had to suggest a BL for someone what would it be?

For a non-bl watcher: Semantic Error or Old Fashion Cupcake (because they have the least tropes or product placements that I feel you'd also have to explain to a newbie bl watcher). For a bl watcher: Not Me (for the art, bodies, dance and Gun)

What's your non-BL favourite for this year?

I guess I could say Not Me for this, since it stands slightly outside of the bl genre, but I think the only actual non-bl show I watched this year was The Gifted and The Gifted Graduation (although I haven't finished the latter yet)...

so i don’t read many fics but i used to be obsessed with reading 2gether fics because they were so fluffy 🥺 there was this one that was inspired by a studio ghibli film and it was aDORABLE!!! it’s called ‘when he was there’. but the best fic i’ve ever read in my life is also coincidentally a smutty itsay fic but tRUST it’s just gut-wrenching angst lmfao like i don’t like smut really but THIS was art i’m not even exaggerating when i tell you the author of this fic deserves a literary award it was so good. author of ‘mouth trouble’ if ur out there just know that i hate u for making me cry so hard with just oNE word 🥲

The thing is...it's not just red and blue but it's a very similar red and minty/turquoise blue...and Gun with his sleeves rolled up slightly like Pran who also has a white shirt on underneath...(and of course we also have Tinn with Pat's watch and the yellow soles)...and then they're sat by water with golden lights around them (I'm counting the sun and the reflection in the pool for MSP)...it is all most definitely on purpose.

But also, it's not just that MSP is referencing BBS -> at this point it's an homage. This is the respectful younger sibling proudly adorning the little hints and nods to their Phi. MSP isn't including all these references to Bad Buddy to be funny or cute...they're paying homage to their older sibling, to say 'I know what came before me and now I'm going to make them proud by taking what they did and not just replicating but making it my own and going one step further'. As @grapejuicegay says in the original post about the fist bump:

And also...it's the way by the end of the ep, sat by the water, both couples know their feelings are reciprocated but whereas in one neither is able to voice them (because they need the bet to transition from friends to lovers) - instead just goading the other to confess that they like them - but in the other, Tinn is able to say straight out 'I like you' to Gun, taking that leap which enables Gun to also admit his feelings. (I smell a parallels gif set in here for someone to make!).

i'll be right there clowning with you anon. a show cannot simply drop this many marriage hints and not follow through. even if it's not a proper proposal, just asking for permission, asking for their son's hand i just... i feel like pat would really love that. we've seen time and time again how much he loves expressing his love openly like the big confession, so getting to have that moment eek it'd jus make him so happy

You have an upcoming old guard au and howl's moving castle au for patpran? 👀

i do!! :D the old guard AU was inspired by this edit by @/patprans because i went feral the second i thought of patpran being in love for 2000 years. its premise is 'what if pat and pran were immortal in bbs canon?' and runs from there. of the two AUs, it's also the one closer to being finished (nearly 8k long too! who am i even!!). i rly need to completely scrap the last 1.5k of the fic or so and rewrite it completely, i just havent been able to bring myself to do that yet lol. id love for it to go up before the month is out but...we'll see how well i stick to that plan 😂 💦

the howl's moving castle AU...well, if im in a fandom, assume i have a HMC AU. howl's moving castle is my favorite series ever (and Diana Wynne Jones my favorite author ever) and it really influenced a lot of my writing style in general, so i fall back into that universe quite often lol. the PatPran HMC AU will be called listen with your heart (dont have much in that tag yet, but. soon. i talked a little bit about the opening premise in the tags of this post though)

it's high school era!PatPran (specifically their senior year) and it starts with Pran accidentally attaching his revolving door to Pat's bedroom door instead of his own (always double check your maths kids!!) but he won’t be able to move the door to his proper bedroom one for Reason. so as you can see, Pran is Howl, Pat is Sophie, and Calcifer will be an OC named Fig, and i think ive made @jemmo cry over this AU no less than 10 times already. i dont know when i'll finish this fic because its getting um. No sooner does Pat reenter his room when he hears the tell-tale whistle-click of his door changing. All thoughts of changing out of his school uniform fly from his head as he dumps his schoolbag in his entryway immediately and turns on his heel to bother Pran. He grabs hold of his doorknob with an eager wiggle and after a quick mental count to three, throws open the door and lunges in.

Pat fully expects to fall onto Pran and get shoved back into his room with a shout and a scolding. But instead of Pran, all he meets is empty space. He stumbles into the home beyond his door with a gasp and--barely--manages to get his feet under him before he falls flat on his face. 

Pat gapes at the newfound territory in awe. He’s stolen glimpses of this room before, of course, but this is the first time he’s seen it. It’s a strange place; Pat had thought Pran now lives in a dorm at his new school, but this looks more like a full cottage to him. The living space has been converted into one large workspace, tables littered with half-finished projects, shelves crammed with textbooks and supplies, a cheerful fire crackling in a large fire pot beneath an open window. A small open kitchen is tucked into the corner and just past it, Pat can see a small hallway of doors open to bedrooms, a bathroom, and extra storage space. Everything smells overwhelmingly of spice and smoke that make Pat's nose itch like he needs to sneeze.

“It is a wizard’s space,” he murmurs to himself as he admires the strange room and begins to poke around. He’s never been in a magic workshop before--all the laboratories in school are firmly locked to only allow magiks in--but after he gets used to the overwhelming newness, he starts picking out little bits of Pran in the smiley faces decorating the spice jars and the animated faces on the strings of globe lights. Pat admires one of the faces making an exaggerated scowl at him with little inked huffs and giggles to himself. He resists the urge to explore more when Pran isn’t here, instead turning to the fire in the corner with a raised eyebrow. “Does Pran know you let me in?”

A grinning shadow of a face appears in the fire. It’s hard to make out completely, like Pat’s looking at something through the heated ripples of a mirage, but silvery flames emerge through the pink-gold flames of the fire’s body to form two mischievously slanted eyes and a jagged gash of silvery grin. It looks positively wicked, and Pat can’t help but grin back at it.

“Not many people see me, much less so quickly,” the fire ghost says. Its voice sounds like the hiss-spit of a burning wet log, but Pat gets the impression its pleased all the same.

“Did Pran say you could let me in?” Pat repeats stubbornly. He’s curious, but not that curious. Besides, it’s no fun breaking rules if Pran’s not there to scold him.

The fire ghost’s grin doesn’t falter. "You were always here,” it says in a pleased whine. A log in its pot cracks in a giggling spit of sparks. “I just opened the door.”

Pat purses his lips suspiciously. So that’s probably a no. He’s not sure a fire ghost will just let him leave if he goes about it directly though--and it must sense Pat’s plans, because the sharp whistle-click of the door changing sounds behind him, leaving Pat trapped until Pran gets back. Pat’s not annoyed by this, per se. He doubts Pran would let a fire ghost that would harm him or his guests into any home of his. It’s just embarrassing to be stuck here until Pran can come bail him out, and Pat had left his cellphone in the bag he dropped in his room like an idiot. He’s not sure what else he can do but wait though, not when the fire ghost offers him a seat on the stool nearby its pot and admires Pat with open curiosity.

"I’m Fig.”

“Pat,” he offers with a friendly nod hello.

“I know,” Fig says. It crackles with a little flare of warmth. “You’re the one Pran likes to visit.”

Despite his best intentions not to snoop, Pat can’t help but perk up with a pleased grin. “He said that?”

Fig lets out a series of spitting sparks and cracks that Pat thinks is supposed to be merry laughter. “Pran shares everything with me,” it says conspiratorially.

Pat raises his eyebrows dubiously. “Why would Pran tell anything to a fire ghost?”

Fig flickers sulkily. “I’m his fire ghost. Of course he shares everything with me.”

Pat laughs and leans closer, not hearing the door latch release. “Pran bound himself to a fire ghost? My Pran?”

Fig flares brighter right as a voice echoes coldly from the doorway. “Snooping, Pat?”

Pat whirls around with a sunny smile, and Fig echoes his greeting with a bright flare up that washes the whole room in warmth. “No! Fig brought me in, he said I was supposed to be here,” he rats out shamelessly, eyes glued to Pran.

Pran ignores him in favor of glaring at the fire ghost flickering big and bright just behind Pat. “Did he now?”

Pat lets out a small sigh from his nose. He’d known that must’ve been the case, but he had hoped...

“And I didn’t snoop,” Pat adds on mulishly. “I was waiting for you to come back.” Pat brightens with a gasp. “But you’re here now!” he says cheerfully, and dives for the nearest shelf full of books and jars to poke through.

“Ai, Pat!”

Currently watching (in order of enjoyment):

The Eclipse: It's only been one ep so far but what a good first ep! As @jemmo said: "confident rebel gay meets uptight golden-boy gay panic in a enemies to lovers plot shrouded in supernatural mystery and system oppression. sign me the fuck up." It hooked me and reeled me in and now has me in a chokehold already. First, Khaotung, Neo and Louis...my heart can't take it. Well, it can and it's gonna. I'm not saying it could reach BB levels of brain rot fever...but it might come close.

Love Mechanics: Oh I just love my messy gays/bis. Oh the angst. Oh the pining. Oh just everything. (Yes, there are some elements of the storyline that I could do without but I'm turning a blind eye because I love the rest). This show is like bathing in a tub of lemon sorbet on a freaking hot day - it feels damn good, it might even taste amazing, but it's gonna leave a mess, and might end up in places where sorbet perhaps shouldn't be.

Vice Versa: This show has moved through one of the storylines quicker than I expected, so now it feels a bit 'plotless' since they're not making as much of the alternative universe element as they probably could have...but I just adore Jimmy and Sea (and we get Neo again!) and all the others, and I'm hoping this will continue to be as good as it's been so far. I'm also doing a colour analysis of each ep, hoping that they might have been attaching meaning to some colours, but I think they're just using them creatively in their design - I still love the detailing though!

My Secret Love: I love the ost. Love it. I wish the show could be as good as the ost. But the show itself isn't bad...just, it could have been better. The actors are fine, the couple dynamics are sweet, but I could have done without the 'I will sacrifice our love to make sure you don't sacrifice your career and in the process break your heart as well as mine' break-up - they could have just talked about it and found a resolution without the pain...but whatever. It's the last ep on Saturday, so I'm sure we'll get a HEA for all.

21 Days Theory: I started this because some people were gushing about it but I'm not really into it. I don't like the foundation of the couple - the way one started off by bullying and teasing the other like the outdated 'if a boy pulls your pigtails it means he likes you' bullcrap. Right now, I don't think Q should end up with X. I don't think X deserves to have Q fall for him. Even with my rose tinted bl glasses on, I don't think this is romance...but if it's really only four episodes then I'll finish watching to see if it gets better.

Coffee Melody: I watched the first two eps and then I haven't really gotten around to watching anymore. It's quite slow and, dare I say it, a bit boring. I want to like it, and maybe I will continue at some point, but it didn't grab me and I don't have much time at the moment, so I'd rather use that time in other ways.

Starting soon:

I might try out My Only 12%...and isn't there a MAME one starting on Friday? (just shows how much time I have to pay attention!)...but other than that I don't think there's anything else on the horizon.
