#bc I reblogged an art

The reblog graphs from labs have returned and they work pretty much perfectly, better than their previous version even (and I think you can even use them to see previous reblogs of a post now that Tumblr decided to remove that function from the dashboard, though rip if you're on mobile) so now that we can see which reblogs on a post were the most "influential" or what reblog chains are going around (as in, how many reblogs with addition A are out there vs how many with addition B or even how many are reblogged directly from the source), I wonder if there would be possible to see which versions people "liked" from.
Like, if I make a post and person A reblogs it with an addition, and person B likes it, I won't be able to know if B liked it from A or from me. A will be the only one to know - but then, if person C reblogs A's addition without adding anything, and B likes that one instead, then neither I nor A will be able to know if B liked the original or A's addition.
And now that I think about it, knowing how internet cultures work it would probably cause a shit ton of drama so it may be better that we don't know XD

To illustrate this post by @mayahawkse I would like to visualize to you the difference:
A post in 2023:
Tumblr media
A post in 2014:
Tumblr media
A zoom out of the same post:
Tumblr media
This is what a community looks like.
See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn't need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.
It's not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it's the type of interaction people have. They're content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.
Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.
If you want more of something, reblog it.

Honestly I think a lot of people who have never made a gif for tumblr don't get that it does actually take time and effort, its not just rip it from a video and post it- you have to download the video, in my case I have a video player installed that grabs continuous caps, figure out what parts you need, you have to open those in photoshop or gimp, depending on where you got photoshop you might be paying for it every month and then on top of that is actually sizing, cropping, colouring, sharpening, adding text, etc. etc. like it is something that takes time and effort for which the only real reward is creating something that makes you happy and hopefully people reblog it with a nice or funny tag, so maybe keep that in mind the next time you think gif makers are being mean or unfair for being upset about reposts. It is its own little artform that is fairly unique to this website, and that's a big aspect of why I have always loved tumblr, if all the gifmakers stopped posting things would be a lot more boring around here.

i know not many people would want to read a 10,000 word article about the minecraft end poem and how the author, Julian Gough, was never fairly compensated for his work and has made it public domain.
But it's a very well-written and heartfelt read, and he makes it very clear that none of this is a cash-grab and despite the fact that he is essentially a starving artist in this capitalist society, he only mentions his financial struggles despite Minecraft's huge huge success at the bottom of this article and not in the tweets so as to not dilute his message.
Anyway, I just think it'd be cool if those who are able to could support him in some way whether it be subscribing to his substack or donating to his paypal (that's linked in the article, you can ctrl + F to find it easier), that's all.

"They think I’m the least dangerous person in this car, do they? Well, they’re about to learn very differently."
Decided to redraw a moment from On the Getaway Mile by Odaigahara on AO3/ @droidofmay !
This may have taken a ridiculous amount of hours condensed into a few days and I went through it drawing cars and car interiors, but this was an absolute blast to do :D I hope I've done the fic sort of justice.
Process shots and long comparison rambles under the cut!
Welcome to my secret lair!!
I spent roughly... 18 hours working on this, the majority during this week and over the past three days, so I need to share my toils with people <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Character/car references and page thumbnails! Featuring an incorrect scene placement and bad camera position. I reread the scene and placed it properly in the actual page. I hate drawing cars!! I was actually the most worried about panel placement when I started this— I was a guy who only did non narrative/illustrative panel pages and layout-less comics, but it wasn't that bad with a script! I could separate beats into panels, note which panels should be emphasised/larger, and assembled that into a page.

If you compare the fic with this comic, you can see how much dialogue I edited and moments I cut out. I couldn't fit it all on without having to draw even more pages, I wish I could though! Poor Mumbo only gets one line here. I'm so sorry my darling man <3 I also gave him a slight cyborg design because his implants are really important for his character and I needed some way to visually show that, even if it's not canon/mentioned.
The colouring method for this was really fun! It's similar to my aggie rainbow painting method but with less steps, hence narrow value range. It looks pretty and gets the vibe across well though.
Rapid fire points!
I was planning to do 3 different fic comics! Not anymore!!!
This is absolutely for the hotguy comic zine applications. <3 "Can I try rizzing you up // PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE" /ref
I drew page 2 first, then 3, then 1. I think you can tell!
Mumbo is sitting on the wrong side and should have his seatbelt on. He's also not carrying the stolen laptop as described.
It's explicitly noted that Mumbo cannot scan Grian like he can with Scar. Whoops!
Transmissions from the Foundation are via Mumbo and Scar's implants, but I couldn't think of a good way to portray that.
Despite guns and weapons being mentioned, I somehow didn't get the opportunity to draw a single one.
I love hand lettering. I also hate it! I will continue to do it.
Here are the no colour pages as a thank you for scrolling <3

"Tumblr is great for artists!" I say, gripping the sink "The reblog function keeps art alive long after it's posted! Not like Twitter and Instagram where old art is left to die in obscurity. And that's great! That's so great!" Somebody reblogs one of my years old drawings and I crush the sink into dust with my bare hands

Major spoilers for the Miguel/Across the Spiderverse (and some headcanon)
Warning for potential eye strain too
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Little disclaimer, this is just meant to be a little emotional character study with Miguel— not trying to justify or coddle him for events in the film
This is how I interpreted a part of his motives where his multiverse mission is to make sure everything is in order, and to stick to a certain script in order to cling onto what he (and he assumes everyone else) still has out of fear of losing them due to one miscalculation. (honestly I’m not even sure if his alteration alone caused the collapse of the universe— maybe it was an outside cause, and he took the blame for himself out of survivor’s guilt). I think he’s still essentially wrong in the film (with Miles especially), but I do kinda see his reasoning for why he stresses about keeping the multiverse together by any means necessary, so this comic is a little elaboration on that?
Some extra headcanon context: Miguel and his brother Gabriel (whom he likely named his daughter after) are child abuse survivors in his 90s run, and I feel like him wanting to be a good dad is trying to break that cycle. I also personally imagine him being a single father, so it makes his want to jump dimensions to be there for the other Gabriella more urgent, assuming he’s a single father in that universe too. It’s ambiguous, but I also feel like he lost Gabriella in a spider-man related accident— like a building collapse during a fight with a villain or something along those lines, and he couldn’t get her out in time, so he still blames himself for that. Guilt is a huge part of Miguel’s character for me, so I hope they retain or expand on that.
Feel free to ask to tag for any of the subject matter
