Hello! I'm sorry to hear you felt disappointed by yesterday's special. However, I feel compelled to comment on a few objective points in your ask.

- "Live & Backstage in Amsterdam" was directed by James Tonkin, the same director (and production team, Hangman) they worked with on "The Feeling of Falling Upwards" (and the unreleased "Live in Brixton" special). Ryan was credited as director of the documentary footage and as a contributing editor (1 of 3) but the live footage and overall final program was not his work.

- Regardless of the particular creatives involved here (or in any given project for that matter), the fact remains that any directors, producers, photographers, etc are all hired hands operating with full input and specific direction from the band. The band chose to make this a hybrid concert film/documentary. The band chose to condense the setlist the way they did. The band chose this format over the traditional tour diaries. What happens to the unused footage will be determined by the band. Ryan is a friend but he is first and foremost an employee and the band owns that footage. (Likewise, the MYT diaries are not sitting on Andy Deluca's hard drive because he's "gatekeeping" or too lazy to edit it. If the band wanted them released, they'd be released.) All this to say, of course you don't have to agree with the decisions but it's important to clarify who your complaint is with.

- This concept of the band or their collaborators "gatekeeping" and fans not getting what we "deserve" is, to be blunt, entitled and immature. Being a fan does not make an artist indebted to you. They make music, if you feel so inclined, you listen. That's it. That's the extent of the contract. Anything beyond that is optional for both parties. Any content an artist chooses to release is not out of obligation or generosity, it's part business strategy, part artistic vision. Artists do not owe you anything. This band does not owe you anything.

well first off idk what they mean by people being insufferable about the prank exactly but i think it's just common sense to hold Sirius responsible for it. like it was his fault lol. I don't know if recognising that your favourite characters (and Sirius is one of mine) have flaws and did bad things sometimes counts as "crucifying" them rather than just enjoying the characters as they are, so I'm not sure what they're referring to. they do say in the tags that they don't think Sirius was in the right to be fair, but I think it's somewhat disingenuous to claim that Sirius wasn't expecting Snape to go down there when there's no evidence for that and even if true it wouldn't change the outcome.

I think there's a tendency in fandom to think you can only like characters if they're understood as 100% good flawless people whose every action is justified somehow. to me not only is this boring it's just kind of ridiculous. I think there's no way around the fact that Sirius did something that was objectively extremely fucked up not only to Snape but also to Remus, and then later displayed little remorse for it as far as we know ("‘I’m bored,’ said Sirius. ‘Wish it was full moon.’") and like... who cares? In the sense that to me, that just makes him an interesting character. And I don't think it erases his good qualities, it just makes him complex.

As far as Snape, like I said in another post I do think that he had some responsibility in the matter. And as a Snape fan this is worth discussing imo and the same exact thing goes for him as it does for Sirius. I think his obsession with discovering what the Marauders were up to went past the point of reasonable and that's why he was so easily manipulated into going down into the willow (for someone so intelligent, walking into an obvious trap is not his greatest moment lol) and we're shown in canon that this obsession was also interfering with his ability to be a good friend to Lily. If I absolutely had to choose then yeah, I think Sirius is more at fault than Sev but that's not as interesting to me as exploring the different motivations at play in the situation. Either way it's kind of a dishonest reading to try and make excuses or handwave rather than accepting that Everyone Is Terrible and just being okay with that.

I guess my point is, are you really a fan of a character if you have to overlook their flaws and weak moments in canon? it's a question worth asking. I love both Snape and Sirius because they have flaws but also admirable traits and I'm chillin feeling absolutely no need to defend anyone lol

small rant/thought spew about the whole zhou and zoo thing once again:

i think i said this in my post/rant yesterday about the whole zhou and zoo thing but i really doubt that every single person who called zhou 'zoo' in the grill the grid video is doing it out of endearment as a cute nickname lol. i'm not gonna name names in case if this somehow breaks out of containment but i rly doubt that certain ppl who 1) don't seem to be close to guanyu afaik and 2) have a history of being 'problematic' are calling him zoo out of endearment lol. but like i said before i could be cynical and just seeing a microaggression when there isn't one. and i will admit that i didn't know about it supposedly being a nickname from lance, so i do appreciate that lance fans are trying to correct that and defend their guy.

(also i want to say that: it's interesting to me that the majority of people, if not everyone, that i *know* for certain who are friendly with guanyu pronounced zhou as 'joe' instead of 'zoo' lol)

but i'm also seeing things about how it's disrespectful to call him 'guanyu' instead of just 'zhou' in chinese, and it's clear that they don't know chinese because that just isn't the case lol. in chinese, it's fine to call him 'guanyu' (especially if the person talking is older than him. if younger then it's better to be a little more formal but still acceptable if they're friendly) but you would never call him just 'zhou'. it's either full name 'zhou guanyu' or 'guanyu' or 'zhou *insert honourific here*' (like mr. zhou, teacher zhou or zhou-ge (ge is short for older brother)) but never just 'zhou'. i think people have a tendency to overthink about the fact that the surname is said before the given name, and then therefore everyone is just called by their last name instead of their given name since it's said first when that's not accurate lol.

i know guanyu prefers being called 'zhou' in english commentary, and it's perfectly fine to call him just 'zhou' in english ofc, since people refer to other drivers by only their last names all the time. but i suspect the reasoning behind guanyu wanting to be called 'zhou' is that it's more that it's easier for english speaking people to say than 'guanyu' especially since the 'yu' sound is not one that is in english. although here we are having discourse about his name 2-3 years later after he's joined f1 so maybe it's not that easy ~_~
