If a dog is not able to understand something you are teaching them (whether it's because you're moving too fast, your communication needs works, you aren't breaking what you're teaching down enough, whatever) and you correct them for making a mistake during that learning process they are also not going to understand why they are being corrected. You will only be adding stress to an already stressful situation.

#just a reminder #because i got annoyed thinking about a certain GSD trainer who is terrible at actually laying foundations with her dogs #and would get mad whenever she asked for advice and we said 'hey clearly he doesnt understand this yet go back to the beginning'#'you need to make it easier all these mistakes are actually evidence he doesnt know what you want'#and she would always be like 'NO HE KNOWS he did it successfully once before hes just being an ass!“ in response #and then talk about hitting her dog and 'frying' him on the remote for 'being an ass' and 'actung like he doesnt know what to do'#just thinking about her and feeling bad for her dogs #both that dog which she rehomed because she viewed him as the problem in their training and titling #and every new dog she ever gets her hands on #considering she self admittedly finds 'dcience based training' to be a red flag and blames all her own failures on her dogs #anyway learning should be errorless #not in that your dog should not be making errors ever #but that your dog does not need to know they made one #that is for you to know so you can adjust your training #because errors are a sign that your current method and communication are NOT working well for that dog #not a sign that the dog is being an ass or is bad at learning
