Spooky October
It’s already the end of October and it’s hard to believe that my senior year is going by so unbelievably fast! It’s probably because of all the work I’m being given, but I’m willing to really commit myself to my final year at the University of Hartford. I really want to push myself into creating the best design portfolio I can. It’s exciting and challenging, but the challenges these past couple of years is what pushed me to create things I didn’t know could make me better!
Tumblr media
About two weeks ago, one of the most exciting projects I helped WORX with was being given the opportunity of building a giant 3 ft. by 7 ft. cardboard car for the United Way of Greater Waterbury Bed Race! It took so much cardboard, two cans of orange spray paint, a ton of hot glue and duct tape but luckily it was just enough to finish the project. It was a one-day assignment, but it had to be the longest one-day assignment I’ve done at WORX! In the end it was exciting and without the help I received by some of the people at WORX, I wouldn’t have been able to finish it on time for the race the next day! Thank you for all of those who helped me complete it!

I’m adding backgrounds now! Look at me go!
I experimenting colouring with markers but shading digitally. I think it looks alright.
Image descriptions in the captions. Character info below the cut...
Beth ‘Ruby Rhinoheart’ Spinnaker
Swashbuckler Rogue
Beth’s dad, Max, a jeweller, was travelling back from the city when he was set upon by wolves. Suddenly, an orc, Hush, threw wolves aside and led Max to the safety of the orc village. After a few nights there, Max returned to his home village, soon discovering he was pregnant. Nine months later, Beth was born.
Beth are up defending the locals from wolves and bandits, but her orcish features made them fearful and angry. Eventually, she chose to leave the village, to fulfil her heroic desires, and to finally meet her orc father.
Ikumi Coidal
Draconic Sorcerer
The runt of the litter, Ikumi grew up stealing scraps from the food her cult served to Bedrac, an ancient black dragon and their deity. One night, Ikumi snuck into Bedrac’s chamber, looking for the dragon’s leftovers, when she heard a commotion and a great cry from her deity. When Ikumi eventually came out of hiding, she saw before her the Great Dragon, dead.
Desperate for power and recognition, the young kobold drank Bedrac’s blood, and when the rest of her cult came to investigate the commotion, she declared herself their new goddess. They tried to kill her, forcing her to flee.
The dragon’s blood grants her powers, but there’s a familiar voice in the back of her head...
Leopold Haus
Brute Fighter
Leopold lived a quiet life, running his tavern with his daughter and (before he died) his husband. A common part of Leopold’s day-to-day was pointing adventurers in the direction of a nearby goblin camp that occasionally threatened the town.
One night, a rogue returned in the rain, smeared with blood. He threw a dagger at Leopold and collapsed. Fortunately, the dagger left only a small scar. Leopold took the rogue to the town’s priests, and the rogue murmured to Leopold how the goblin camp was overrun with orcs that his party had been totally unprepared for, blaming Leopold for his near-TPK.
Deciding he would send no more adventurers to their deaths, Leopold bought weapons and armour, put his daughter in charge of the tavern, and set off.
Gabem Dor
Fiend Warlock
Living on the astral plane, Gabem blew glass made from the sand of various other planes that occasionally connected to her own. Her village, however, mostly saw glassblowing as frivolous, and so Gabem often wandered far from the village alone. On one occasion, she came across a devil, Ubrish, barely clinging to life, so she dragged her back home and nursed her back to health. Ubrish’s moral code meant she couldn’t harm someone who had saved her, and Ubrish’s embarrassment at her own weakness meant Gabem could blackmail her into a warlock pact.
Newly empowered, Gabem burned down her shop and left to explore the material plane.

Local ingredients are a strong focus, so the menu rotates seasonally. We recommend the fried chicken, paired with the Tijuana Brass Smash- a refreshing, yet flavorful cocktail.

Superheroes race beds to help kids
A Mesa Arizona charity is enlisting superheroes, zombies, wizards and regular humans to raise funds for children who need beds.
Bridging AZ Furniture Bank is staging a HeroFest&Bedrace Oct. 28 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Mesa Community College.  The HeroFest is a family-friendly event featuring games, booths, food vendors and an end-of-the-evening Costume/Zombie Walk. Bridging is partnering with several local “cosplay” groups urging participants to show up in costume appropriate for any age.
The bed race pits teams of five – four pushing and one riding — competing with specially-built, wheeled beds provided by Bridging.  The fastest team will win a prize, but so will the best-costumed team and the group raising the most donations.  “We love the competition, but the emphasis is on fun,” said Bridging Executive Director Jim Piscopo.
Proceeds from the race and the HeroFest event will benefit Bridging AZ, which furnishes apartments for families and individuals – including veterans – who are moving out of homelessness.
The HeroFest event is open to all ages.  The bed race is open anyone 16 years and older. Parking at Mesa Community College is free.
Information and online sign-up forms are at www.AZBedRace.org.
