🎼Belarusian and Polish folk costumes, requests. Nadzieja from Vileyka (Belarus) is playing the flute at the wedding of her friend Elżbieta, the bride from Krakow (Poland). 💐
STRÓJ KRAKOWIAKÓW ZACHODNICH. Ludność zamieszkującą tereny rolniczo-przemysłowe położone wokół Krakowa (obecnie wsie te stanowią często jego dzielnice) określa się mianem Krakowiaków Zachodnich.

The russian company made an advertisement for "Soul of Rus(sia)" by stealing a photo from a Belaruthian photographer
Tumblr media
The russian art travel agency "Corporation of your state" made a post on Instagram advertising its "Soul of Rus(sia)" event, stealing pictures from the Belaruthian photographer Alisa Ćioś, writes mediazona.by.
"Corporation of your state" on Instagram advertises its event "Soul of Rus(sia)", which is scheduled to take place on November 11-12. The promotional video is made from pictures of people, most of whom are dressed in Belaruthian folk costumes. At the same time, the video is accompanied by the captions "We are Russians".
The commentators under the clip noticed that some of the photos are photos of Belaruthian holidays, and in general, most of the photos are not related to russia because Belarusians are on them.
"Why did you steal a Belaruthian photo? Another confirmation that the so-called "russian culture" is now stealing, passing someone else's off as one's own... What a shame! Did you know that Belarus is another country? Shame on you!" - one of the commentators wrote sharply.
The author of these photos is Belaruthian photographer Alisa Ćioś. On her Instagram page, she wrote: "What a circus to take my pictures for videos like this."

Parade of Nations - Belarus
(Berarūshi)
Belarus formed its National Olympic Committee in 1991 and participated in its first Olympics as a country at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics. They haven’t hosted any Olympic Games, but they’ve participated in 6 Summer Games and 7 Winter Games. The Olympic sports in which Belarus has medaled are Athletics, Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Judo, Modern Pentathlon, Rowing, Shooting, Swimming, Tennis, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.
Kimono Maker: Mutsumi Okuno/
“A large stork flying in the sky, a bird loved by the people who are the national bird of Belarus, flapping its wings, and a flower crown colored with chamomile, pink clover, and fern leaves that are worn at the festival of Kubara. Configured. The fertile wheat is crafted, and the hem pattern is finely dyed using silk screen, such as the Slavic mythological pattern called Yarilo from the patterns used in folk costumes. The image of the collar and skirt of the blouse of the national costume is incorporated into the kimono. In addition, a passage of Belarusian poetry was drawn in Belarusian, and the feelings of people living in harmony with nature were also included in the work.”[1]
Obi Maker: Kaori Shinkai/
“The overall design is made up of delicate Belarusian embroidery motifs and decorated with cornflowers and flax flowers. It is a work that you can feel a delicate and cute image. On the lining, the pattern of Japanese arrow fletching motif is woven using the color of the Belarusian flag, which is a proof of friendship between Japan and Belarus.” [1]

Just Watched Midsommar
Going in already knowing the entire synopsis.
After losing her entire family, Dani joins her neglecting boyfriend Christian and his friends in a trip to a remote village in Sweden where one of them comes from. In a place where the sun does not really set, unexpected gruesome deeds from the village cult are haunting them.
Me: I have a rare occasion of not being busy and/or tired. Brain: Watch Midsommar. Me: What?! You know I can't stand gore movies, right? Brain: You already know what happens in here. Probably a bit blood. You can stand it. Me: Eh ok then.
My brain is a liar. Everyone else is right. It's full-blown gore, camera lingering oh so slowly.
The disturbing parts are when the protagonist Dani is having her panic attack and random images show up and boom the full face of the face-smashed corpse. I have no way to prepare for that.
Story-wise, this movie hits every horror movies cliche checklist. Evil cult? Check. Selfish idiotic characters? Check. No salvation? Check. Weird arts? Check. Unnatural relationships? Check.
This is the type of horror movie, or movie in general, that I hate. Everyone, save for Dani, just dooms themselves one way or another for no particular reason other than either being a jerkass, dumbass, or both.
This movie reminds me why the circle of your significant other is important to consider. If they are toxic friends, by god they will destroy your relationship and life.
Dani is the only one I vouch for because damn she does not deserve any of this, and by the end of the movie all that shot to shit. On the other hand, Florence Pugh deserves an award. Holy shit.
The last part when Dani finally smiles is incredibly satisfying, I won't deny that bc good lord Christian is horrendous. But when you consider how it was all the Hårga's manipulation, and how they are hinted and confirmed racist, not to mention will lie and kill innocent people, ughhh not so much.
You can believe whatever you want to believe but when you force it on others and hurt people in the name of it, that's when you cross the line.
Honestly watching Dani and Christian is kinda hard because it feels relatable as fuck.
Ari Aster said this movie is essentially about a bad breakup and that's understatement of the year. He did have a bad breakup before so maybe it's his own way to cope. What a way, though.
Cinematography and the settings are absolutely amazing. I feel like I was watching a scenery-centric movie. The camera lingers on shiny beautiful meadows, aesthetic buildings in the middle of nowhere, two characters reading holy scripture in the darkness, and much more.
And then the gore sets in, in exactly the same bright place. No censor, no parts hidden, all displayed full screen. One scene, the one in the chicken shed, is disgustingly beautiful (or beautifully disgusting).
The behaviour of the Hårga community is so polite, yet so disturbing at the same time. Oh and I like the story hints placed in the pictures and embroideries in their everyday's items.
The whole contrast between the beautiful bright place, the friendly people, and the same people's cunning nature and the brutal murder is making such an unsettling ironic. It's like I'm arriving at the paradise, only to question 'why is the paradise, holy as it is, so cruel?'
Special mention to the costume design. The robes are really to die for, and nobody wears the same clothing. The style is practically iconic now. Once I saw someone shopping then pointing at a particular white flowery dress saying "Hey it's the Midsommar dress!"
Some people point out that the robes don't look exactly the Swedish traditional outfits. Not with that color or patterns, obviously. They kinda resemble Ukrainian or Belarusian ones. That said, the costume designer Andrea Flesch explained that the main point is to create their own world while having some resemblance to the Scandinavian folk history. Aster himself wanted the Hårga to dress in white. The research extended to Eastern Europe, and somehow folks motif have similarities in varying degree. The team even made the costume by hand, careful not to make it too perfect, resulting in the aforementioned nobody wearing the same thing, because Hårga is in such a small remote village and the people obviously made everything themselves. The details, I love.
TL;DR They really don't lie when they say it's a daylight horror. They are correct.

I mentioned wanting to introduce some NPCs (read: other OCs that are related to Alexei that I’m too lazy to make blogs for) so here’s my Carpathian Ruthenia OC! His name is Vasyl and he’s Alexei’s uncle, technically. He represents the Rusyns, a small but distinct East Slavic ethnic group inhabiting the Carpathian mountains. I’ve drawn him here in folk costume from the Lemkovyna region of Slovakia and Poland, which is where part of my family originates from-- I’m actually Lemko, which is what Rusyns in Slovakia and Poland are often called. Rusyns are set apart from their Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarusian cousins due to their being predominantly Byzantine Rite Catholic as opposed to Eastern Orthodox, though one might argue that Byzantine Rite Catholicism is closer to Eastern Orthodoxy than it is to Roman Catholicism. I digress. Being a mountain people, herding animals like sheep and goats has historically been a big part of their livelihood, which is why Vasyl here has a shepherd’s crook as part of his get up.
They’re a predominantly diasporic ethnic group; many emigrated to America and Canada during the 19th century, as the Austro-Hungarian province of Galicia, where most Rusyns lived was among the poorest in Europe. Though you may never have heard of Carpathian Ruthenia, you’ve definitely heard of a few of its sons and daughters: pop artist Andy Warhol, actress Sandra Dee, comic artist and creator of Spider-Man Steve Ditko, and jazz musician Bill Evans are just a few notable figures of Rusyn origin.

I just wanna say I love all the outfits Hima has drawn Belarus in, there’s actually so many (also a side note the blue dress she’s first seen in is inspired by the Soviet schoolgirl uniform and is still a dress worn on the graduation day of some Russian and Belarusian schools)

(Hima said Bela loves to weak her folk and traditional wear and here is a little peak of her doing so! The shirt she wears is a variant of a traditional Belarusian shirt/chemise link link)

(A partisan uniform, I love the old fashioned underwear Bela wears lol and the confirmation that Ukraine is kinda chubby while Bela is the thinner one)
