"Aren't you a little young to be a guardsman?" Leta asked, staring up at the boy from under her green mask. He looked down at her briefly.

"We're a cadet unit," he answered, tersely, and she nodded her head with mock seriousness.

"Right, of course." Her eyes scanned his face and despite his tense posture and the fact that his eyes maintained fixated on the party raging behind her, she couldn't help herself.  “Well, Cadet? Any miscreants?" she asked, coming around to stand at ease next to him, surveying the party goers herself.

He looked at her out of the corner of his eye. "No."

"You're certain? No one who doesn't belong here? Maybe someone who snuck in?"

He stiffened next to her and looked down at her, but before he could say anything, she smiled, her lips tugging up slightly. "Maybe a captivating young woman in dazzling green mask?"

"That's specific," he said, relaxing a bit as the corner of his mouth turned up.

"You know criminals. They're all the same."

"Captivating young women in dazzling green masks?"

"Exactly," Leta nodded, and the cadet let out a laugh. "Don't suppose you've seen any out there, have you?"

"I haven't," he shook his head. "I don't suppose you have any insight as to why these girls--"

"Young women," Leta corrected.

"Young women," he amended. "Snuck into a dance they were perfectly welcome to attend."

"Because young women aren’t welcome to attend. I believe the invitation specifically stated it was only open to anyone under 18. And regardless of age, I don't think attendees are allowed to be slightly intoxicated."

"So you got drunk and decided to attend a high school dance?"

Leta scoffed. "When you say it like that it sounds much less rebellious. Just kind of...sad."

"It is kind of sad," the cadet said, his eyes darting over her shoulder and a frown tugging his lips down from the smile they had been in.

"Spotted someone?" Leta asked, turning back to the crowd. Her eyes fell on a thin girl, dark hair pulled up into a ponytail. She wore a blue mask and a grey tank top which might have once been blue, and she was being waved over by an attractive blonde. "Girlfriend?" Leta guessed, and the boy's eyes snapped to her.

"Far from it," he answered tightly.

"Ex-girlfriend?" she guessed again.

"Just a good friend," he responded.

"Ahh, so you're the overprotective big brother type," she remarked and he tensed, pulling even further into himself if that was even possible. Her eyes searched his face for a second before she continued on. "I consider myself more of a devious little sister, myself," his eyes flicked between her and the girl.

"Do you?"

"Yeah," she smiled. "So you're a big brother, I'm a younger sister. We must be a pretty natural pair."

He snorted. "You know, most girls who hit on me don't do it by calling me their big brother."

"Who said I'm hitting on you?" Leta asked with a grin. "Aren't you a little old for me?"

"Depends," he said. "How old are you?"

"Tonight? I'm 17."

"And tomorrow?"

"Who's hitting on who now?" Leta asked with a smile. He rolled his eyes and she laughed. "But I'm fairly certain that any delinquent who walked into this party knowing full well they were too old would be around 19."

"So, if they know they're too old for this party, why do they come?"

"To hit on the cadets of course," Leta smiled. "Or because they had a shitty day and dancing the night away seemed like a good way to let go of that."

"And yet you aren't dancing."

"Well, I'm not a delinquent."

"Just a perfectly innocent captivating young woman in a dazzling green mask?"

Leta smiled, "Exactly. You get me," she read his name tag. "Blake."

"Bellamy," he corrected. "And you are?"

"Leta," she introduced. "And also wondering if there's any way I can convince you to dance with me."
