Daily Waypoint | N 42° 22' 19.2" W 72° 30' 51.0" Dinosaur Skeletons—The Beneski Museum of Natural History, Amherst College is located on the campus of Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. It showcases fossils and minerals collected locally and abroad, many by past and present students and professors. The Museum houses roughly 200,000 objects, including the College's historic Hitchcock Ichnological Cabinet of more than 1,700 slabs containing dinosaur footprints, one of the largest in the world. The collection also includes the world-famous "Noah's Raven," tracks discovered in South Hadley, Massachusetts in 1802 that constitute the first dinosaur fossil to be collected in North America — 40 years before dinosaurs were even recognized as a distinct fossil group. https://www.fmgphoto.com/Travel/Attractions/i-HQtDs9K #Dinosaur #Skeletons #Skeleton #beneskimuseumofnaturalhistory #beneskimuseum #amherstmassachusetts #amherstcollege #dinosaurfootprints #noahsraven #fossil #fossils #dinosaurs #discoveramerica #travelpics #travellife #travelinspiration #travelblog #travelphotography #fmgphoto #followingmygps #travelphotography #traveller #photography #travelamerica #lifestyle #LifeWellLived #travelmagazine #roadtripping #exploring #roadtrip (at Beneski Museum of Natural History) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDwdZoAMlYB/?igshid=t57otb3vucgt

The last museum stop of my #vacation is the @beneskimuseum at #amherstcollege. This hidden gem of a gallery is damned near perfect. While it doesn't have gigantic sauropods filling up it's relatively small space it uses what it has better than any other natural history museum I have ever been to. Every bit of space is used efficiently and organized in a way that effectively conveys the themes of different periods or groups of animals without the viewer needing to understand the full breadth of paleontology or do a ton of reading to catch up, you can literally just explore and be like, "yeah, I get that." They even have specimen drawers you can pull out from the wall to get a close look at some very good examples of specimens from everything including jawless fish to amniote eggs. It is a little hard to find and you need to park a ways away and walk, but it is free and nice and quiet, like finding a secret garden of science. #museum #newengland #amherst #massachusetts #fossils #science #dinosaurs #extinctanimals (at Beneski Museum of Natural History) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3A22evFE_h/?igshid=q3b4n82g4ytb

One of the main reasons I recommend @beneskimuseum to anyone who loves #fossils is their absolutely massive gallery of trackways, it's set up like an art exhibit or library. #dinosaurs #dinotracks #dinosaurtracks #museum #vacation #naturalhistory (at Beneski Museum of Natural History) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3A4RgqFxiu/?igshid=48mlbghe1snm

“I knew when I walked in that I wanted to come to Amherst and I wanted to work in this museum,” says Antonella Dominguez ’18, recalling her first visit to @beneskimuseum as a prospective student. “I also wanted to learn what it takes to curate scientific exhibitions.” . Four years later, she’s done just that. On Today’s Horizon: Mass Extinction is a new exhibition at Amherst’s Beneski Museum of Natural History curated by Dominguez. It spans all three floors of the museum and provides a context for mass extinctions of the past, present and future. Read more @ link in bio. . On Today’s Horizon: Mass Extinction remains on view at the Beneski Museum of Natural History through Commencement on May 20. The museum is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. . #naturalhistory #museum #exhibition #massextinction #fossil #fossilfriday #studentlife #campuslife #amherstcollege #amherstma #beneskimuseum (at Beneski Museum of Natural History)
