Trailblazing New Earth Satellite Put to Test in Preparation for Launch
During three weeks in a thermal vacuum chamber in Bengaluru, India, the joint NASA-ISRO satellite demonstrated its hardiness in a harsh, space-like environment.
NISAR, the trailblazing Earth-observing radar satellite being developed by the United States and Indian space agencies, passed a major milestone on Nov. 13, emerging from a 21-day test aimed at evaluating its ability to function in the extreme temperatures and the vacuum of space.
Short for NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar, NISAR is the first space hardware collaboration between NASA and the Indian Space Research Organisation, or ISRO, on an Earth-observing mission. Scheduled to launch in early 2024, the satellite will scan nearly all the planet’s land and ice twice every 12 days, monitoring the motion of those surfaces down to fractions of an inch. It will be able to observe movements from earthquakes, landslides, and volcanic activity and track dynamic changes in forests, wetlands, and agricultural lands.
The thermal vacuum test occurred at ISRO’s Satellite Integration and Test Establishment in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru. It’s one of a battery of tests the satellite will face leading to launch. Other tests will ensure it can withstand the shaking, vibration, and jostling that it will encounter during launch.
NISAR, partially covered in gold-hued thermal blanketing, entered the vacuum chamber on Oct. 19. Over the following week, engineers and technicians lowered the pressure to an infinitesimal fraction of the normal pressure at sea level. They also subjected the satellite to an 80-hour “cold soak” at 14 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 10 degrees Celsius), followed by an equally lengthy “hot soak” at up to 122 F (50 C). This simulates the temperature swings the spacecraft will experience as it is exposed to sunlight and darkness in orbit.
ISRO and JPL teams worked around the clock during the three-week period, testing the performance of the satellite’s thermal systems and its two primary science instrument systems – the L-band and S-band radars – under the most extreme temperature conditions they will experience in space.
This latest round of testing followed 20 days of testing in September in which engineers used ISRO’s compact antenna test facility to evaluate whether the radio signals from the two radar systems’ antennas passed requirements. Blue foam spikes lining the facility’s walls, floor, and ceiling prevent radio waves from bouncing around the room and interfering with measurement.
With thermal vacuum and compact antenna tests successfully done, NISAR will soon be fitted with its solar panels and its nearly 40-foot (12-meter) radar antenna reflector, which resembles a snare drum and will unfold in space at the end of a 30-foot (9-meter) boom extending from the spacecraft.
The satellite will undergo additional tests before being packed up and transported about 220 miles (350 kilometers) eastward to Satish Dhawan Space Centre, where it will be mounted atop ISRO’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark II rocket and sent into low Earth orbit.
More About the Mission
NISAR is an equal collaboration between NASA and ISRO and marks the first time the two agencies have cooperated on hardware development for an Earth-observing mission. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which is managed for the agency by Caltech in Pasadena, California, leads the U.S. component of the project and is providing the mission’s L-band SAR. NASA is also providing the radar reflector antenna, the deployable boom, a high-rate communication subsystem for science data, GPS receivers, a solid-state recorder, and payload data subsystem. U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) in Bengaluru, which leads the ISRO component of the mission, is providing the spacecraft bus, the launch vehicle, and associated launch services and satellite mission operations. ISRO’s Space Applications Centre in Ahmedabad is providing the S-band SAR electronics.

Reach of Online Education in Rural India
Tumblr media
The concept of E-learning was introduced in the late nineties. But it was never a popular method of acquiring education until the Covid pandemic arrived. The pandemic acted as a catalyst as people couldn’t leave their homes and had to switch to online methods for learning. Since then, online education has become a ubiquitous part of our education system. The urban area of the country are leveraging internet and electronic mobile devices to purse reputed courses like NMIMS distance MBA, distance BBA, distance BSc along with short term professional certifications.
In rural areas, before covid arrived, Online education was never a thing. Neither, the rural areas have Internet facilities which is the basic requirement of e-learning, nor people are aware. After covid, a lot of students who were studying in urban areas had to shift back to their native places which were not very developed in terms of technology. They reported to face a number of problems when it came to continuing their studies using the Internet as the pandemic hit at a critical time when the academic year 2019-20 was about to end, and it was very important for the students and the institutions to complete their classes.
Poor data connectivity, a lack of access to computers and smartphones, and power problems in villages made it difficult for the students to access the online courses offered by their universities. Students have been known to go to locations outside their villages in quest of the elusive mobile wireless connection. The media has reported a case where a child in Karnataka climbed a tree to get a strong enough mobile signal. Managing access to online classes was extremely difficult for students, particularly girls.
A survey that expresses the condition of Online Education in India
Tumblr media
Many challenges which are now faced regarding online education are revealed by a study of a Government First Grade College (GFGC). The college is situated near the taluk office, which is 20 kilometres from the district office and 90 kilometres from Bengaluru, the state capital.
The students that go to this college are around 20 km from the area around the institutions. The college offers graduation and post-graduation courses and has 1060 students in total. The college switched to online methods of teaching after the pandemic. A survey was conducted and input was taken from 20 faculty members(a total was 21) and 724 students with the purpose of taking feedback regarding the online method of learning in remote areas.
Results of the survey:
Teachers communicate with students through a variety of channels, including websites, youtube videos, Jnana Nidhi (a YouTube channel), WhatsApp videos, and reading notes sent via email and Whatsapp.
With 66 percent of all techniques employed, sharing reading notes with students was found to be the most effective way.
Each faculty member connected with students on average 30 times.
For their own internal meetings, the academics used the collaboration technology ZOOM.
Teachers reported that they are facing problems due to a lack of assistance regarding new technology.
The faculty had no knowledge of how to make lesson films.
60% of the professors said it was challenging to make videos on their smartphones.
80% of the staff was not having any broadband connection and they were using their personal Internet to teach their students.
65 % of faculty faced signal issues.
Power Issues were also faced by all the members who were part of the program.
The majority of issues faced were regarding poor data connectivity.
Lack of training
Tumblr media
Reasons why Online education cannot reach remote areas
No availability of the latest smart devices and a lack of accessibility to the online content that urban citizens enjoy daily.
Do not have enough resources to buy a personal laptop or desktop, depending on family members’ devices for studying
Can not afford expensive data plans.
Lack of awareness among people due to which they do not support the facility for their children.
Tumblr media
Suggestions (Steps towards Transformation)
Availability of the tutor all the time.
Proper training regarding the technology part for both teachers and students
Clarity of technical doubts.
Creating a community between students- teachers and students- students to deal with any issues, learn about hobbies and interests of the other p[erson, etc.
Exploration with more and more tools so that the process can be made easier and more convenient.
Orienting students about all the changes coming in the Online Education system
Introducing various methods of Interaction, group discussions, and activities so that active learning can be encouraged.
Organizing the study material in such a way that it is easily adaptable to the students.

Most Wickets In IPL History - OneTurf News
Tumblr media
The Indian Premier League 2024 season has reached the business end, and the biggest talking point this year has been the dominance of the bat over the ball, with batting-friendly pitches, record-breaking totals, shocking strike rates, and sixes galore being the norm of the season. While Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders have taken the cricketing world by storm, others like the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been poor with the ball and are languishing at the bottom of the table. There is a saying that batters win you matches, but it is the bowlers who win you tournaments. There’s constant pressure on bowlers to give their best, as even a tiny mistake can end the team’s campaign. Having said that, world-class bowlers have performed well, showcasing their experience and taking wickets at crucial junctures. While some of the experienced bowlers have gone for runs in the IPL 2024 season so far, let’s take a look at the list of bowlers who have taken the most wickets in IPL history to date.
Top 3 bowlers with the most wickets in IPL history
Yuzvendra Chahal — 200 Wickets Breaching new milestones in his entertaining T20 career, Indian wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal entered his name into the history books by taking his 200th IPL wicket in match 38 of the IPL 2024 season between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians on Monday. The spin wizard dismissed MI’s Mohammad Nabi to become the first player in the history of IPL to take 200 wickets. The wily wrist spinner has been part of three teams IPL sides, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals. However, Chahal came into the limelight when he consistently took wickets for RCB, especially at their batting-friendly home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Despite his record performance, RCB did not retain Chahal. The 33-year-old leg spinner ended up winning the Purple Cap playing for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 season, taking 27 wickets. He is currently in the sixth position for most wickets in IPL 2024. While talking about Chahal’s overall IPL stats, he has an impressive economy of 7.8 and a bowling average of 22.12.
Dwayne Bravo — 183 Wickets Former Chennai Super Kings’ pace bowling all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is right at the top in the 2nd spot when it comes to the bowlers with the most wickets in IPL history, having taken as many as 183 wickets from 161 games at an economy of 8.39. The West Indies superstar holds the joint first position on the list of highest wicket-takers in IPL in a single season alongside Harshal Patel. The star all-rounder took 32 wickets in 18 games during the IPL 2013 season. His impressive bowling performance helped the Chennai Super Kings qualify for the finals. While talking about his entire IPL playoffs career, Bravo has taken 28 wickets, with a strike rate of 13.8 and an economy rate of 8.21 in 19 matches.
Piyush Chawla — 183 Wickets Former India leg-spinner Piyush Chawla is the third-highest wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League history. Talking about his overall IPL stats, Chawla has taken 183 wickets from 188 games at a fantastic economy rate of 7.97. In the IPL 2023 season, the 34-year-old wrist-spinner picked 22 wickets from 16 matches at an economy of 8.11 for the Mumbai Indians. Chawla has played for the Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians in his IPL career so far.
