oh god watching I, Borg after watching all of Voyager and Picard is much more painful actually.

i also don't think it ever really occurred to me how instrumental Beverly was in making the Enterprise crew see Hugh (and the rest of the Borg) as people (also obviously Geordi was too but i guess i just erased Beverly from this episode even though she was the one who literally forced the Enterprise to bring Hugh aboard and not leave him to die). i really wish Beverly got to have a proper scene with Seven in Picard s3 given that she was literally the first person to not just see the Borg as a weaponized object.

also like? i imagine in the gap between tng era and picard era Beverly would have been involved in advocating for xB rights – both legal and medical – and would have reconnected with Hugh and helped him on the Artifact while doing her whole freelance doctors without borders thing. anyways please hire me to write Star Trek novels i have so many good ideas.

It’s Monday, it’s time for Casual Trek! We’ve got a guest star today with @celesteisbest from Celeste is Best and the Nerd & Tie podcast joining us to talk about the Trill!

First up is TNG’s “The Host” where Dr Crusher’s got a new love interest with a weird secret and Riker volunteers to get a slug in his belly. We’ve got awkward workplace relationships, warring moons and a visit to the Enterprise salon!

Then we go to the most famous Trill in the Star Trek canon, Jazdia Dax! In DS9’s “Rejoined” she’s reunited with her wife from another life. Can they keep things professional despite their former relationship? No, no they can’t. We’ve got close-up magic, romance, Bashir being a fifth wheel and wormhole experiments.

Finally we’re in the grimdark future of Star Trek: Discovery’s later seasons and “Forget Me Not”, where a human host to a Trill symbiont has to come to terms with their identity, their relationships and has a weird bath in the slug cave!

As ever there are a ton of tangents, but they’re all good fun. We run a little long and have some technical issues (also someone didn’t do the right homework!) My favorite line in this episode Jack Crusher pointing at Captain Riker " history remembers you with one less pip" Gahhhhhh I LOVE IT!! I love my riker baby but y'all gotta agree that's an awesome line....... boy I'm slouched with heavy eyes cuz I'm worn out for screeching so much...continually for the past hour. ...... Raffi rescued by Worf!!! Wahhhhh!
