Phoenix Black
for @adelarsims Ember's Academy Spellcasting Tournament!
The prodigy heir of the coven, Brian Black, got married in secret to a fellow human baker; to keep his lover safe, he would not use magic at home; but was forced to when his wife had complications giving birth. Witch Hunters noticed his magic and, since he was off to get resouces, they mistaken his wife for the magic user, and burned down their house. His daughter survived, but his heart would never forget.
Phoenix was then raised in the coven's house, by her dad and all the other spellcasters. Her magic development was really slow, at the point where her tutors thought she was full human, therefore not able to stay in the magic realm. She tried to make up for it, helping around the home and, especially, in the stables. Her best friend is Blaze, an unicorn that she bounded to since he was a foal.
Now, Phoenix expect that winning this tournament will open her fathers eyes to all she is capable of

Making Gifs Part 1 - Capturing Video
I am making this for @errruvande but I thought maybe others could use this guide to. This is my own personal workflow on how I make my gifs. Everyone has their own way of doing it, and there is no right or wrong way, but I have found this works best for me, with my limited tools and since I do not have photoshop.
Please note I am not an expert lol! There are people out there making far better gifs than me, and many other gifmaking resouces on Tumblr that are probably better than mine.
Keep reading below >>>
So there are two ways that I have found that work for capturing video. If you have the discs like I do, using a program like Videobyte BD-DVD Ripper works really well to grab video clips from Blu-Rays and DVD's. I recommend only using Blu-Rays if you have them. since DVD's are much lower quality.
However I have noticed the videos I captured with this program tend to be dark and have some compression artifacts, even when rip to an MKV with high quality settings. So I use a different method which I feel produces higher quality video captures.
I use Windows Screen Recorder (I have Win11 but this will work for all versions of Windows) with the quality settings set to High. In order to do this, go to Settings > Gaming > Captures and set the following:
Make sure the Video Quality is set to High, set your Screenshots folder, turn off Audio (you don't need it), and keep the frame rate to 30 fps.
For Windows 11 press WIN + ALT + R to activate the screen recorder. There is usually a bit of a delay so make sure you start a few seconds before the scene you want to capture. And try to keep the length of the capture below about 90 seconds; the shorter the better.
______________________________________________________________
Capturing Sequential Caps
So, for those of you with Photoshop, you can import your video directly into the program and make your gif from there. But I found that Photopea really does not like videos, and will stall and crash if I load a video directly. So I have to capture sequential screencaps to make my gifs.
I use VLC Media Player. There are a few others out there that take sequential caps, but I have not been able to get them to work myself.
Download and install the latest version. Then go to your settings to set up the Sequential Caps function. They have a great guide on their website here but I will reiterate it in this post.
Go To Tools > Preferences and then at the bottom of the screen select the All radio button to show all settings.
Select Video from the left menu. Scroll down about halfway until you see the Snapshot section. Choose the folder where you want the caps to go.

3. Then, under Video on the left, expand the Filters list.
4. Check the "Scene Video Filter" from the list.

5. Then scroll down on the left menu under Filters and click on Scene Filter. This will open up the settings for that particular filter.

6. Set the Image Format to PNG.
7. Then for the Recording Ratio, change to "1". The Recording Ratio is the frame interval. So for example, if it was set to "300" (with a 30fps video), then it would take one cap every 10 seconds. Setting it to "1" will make it take a cap once per frame.
8. None of the other settings need to be changed.
9. One more important setting, otherwise this will not work! Close the menu, and go back to Tools > Settings and leave it on Simple. Go to the Video section and MAKE SURE the output is set to "Automatic". This is important because if it is not on Automatic the Scene Filter won't work!
Then just open your video with VLC. VLC will automatically take the screencaps while the video is playing. If you pause the video, it will stop taking caps.
NOTE: For smoother gifs, change your playback speed to be slower. Go to the top menu > Playback > Speed > Slower (fine). The more you click this the slower the video will playback, and that means more caps will be taken over that time frame. I usually set it to 0.75x, but if you want even smoother gifs for really short clips, you can set it even slower than that.
Your screenshot folder will look like this:
Then we are done with this part and onto Photopea! Which I will go into detail in another post: PART 2

What Covid Does to the Body - Published Aug 7, 2024
500+ Studies Later, What Have We Learned?
We started this project, “What COVID-19 Does To the Body,” in the fall of 2022 to further public understanding of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to better understand the virus and disease that many in politics and the media insisted we simply roll over and submit to repeated infections of. In the summer of 2024, the Pandemic Accountability Index has now read and compiled over 500 studies across five editions, divided by category, on how SARS-CoV-2 harms the human body - as well as how to best prevent COVID-19 infections.
Since 2022, a number of credentialed professionals across multiple fields have spouted off nonsensical, uninformed opinions that ignore the many well-documented harms that even “mild” (not hospitalized or dead) COVID-19 infections can leave on the body. The public is entitled to informed opinions and public health recommendations supported by a concrete foundation of scientific fact, not fictional delusions.
We hope that these compilations of recent research, from credible institutions and researchers across the globe, can be a resource for doctors, nurses, public health officials, and policymakers. This is only possible with your grassroots support, which includes subscribing to the Pandemic Accountability Index and sharing these research compilations widely across social media and to relevant parties in your local community. We would also humbly ask for a one-time donation, or paid subscription, to help support growing the Pandemic Accountability Index.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hello, number 24 of the ask game please, or kvetch about a resouce that was unavailable or disappointing if you rather, best witchings!
Literally anything by DJ Conway. Y'all, skip it. It's all bad. If it's not outright made up, it's plagiarized. And honestly "plagiarized from a reputable source" is the best you can hope for, since then it's at least potentially useful.

shuuenpro truly will haunt me forever and like. obviously I'm fine with it being this way tbh . Uhm. But I've been thinking a lot lately, I guess, about how my motivations for staying with Shuuen are influenced primarily by what I've gained from its community. i.e. the reasons why I remain a shuuen no shiori fan are far more social in nature than any other interest I've ever had
I mean. from the very beginning, (for me, February 2019) it was already different because I was entering an interest that most people didn't seem to care for anymore . and I'm sure I at least had some level of awareness for this, that I was getting into something post-mortem. I just didn't think I'd get attached to the point that I Needed to talk about it with other people, y'know? So! around 4PM on February 11th, 2019, I gave the first couple of songs a proper listen, and then started reading the first light novel.
...and then, about 4 hours later, I made a group chat trying to get a few friends to read Shuuen no Shiori, because uh. Yeah.
uhm. and I was definitely doomed after 48 hours, because then I had actually finished reading light novel 2, which re:wired my brain and would remain my favorite light novel for years
but! around like 6-7 days in, I think things Really started to ramp up for me. because I had read just about every translation that I could find at the time out there, and made this hilariously desperate-sounding tweet that has aged incredibly well .
I also was becoming increasingly aware that it was becoming an obsession! Yeah. at some point I remember literally warning people that this was the only thing I expected myself to be talking about for months. at the same time, my Need to connect to people over shuuenpro only grew. I wanted to talk to people about shuuenpro So Fucking Badly.
and if there wasn't an easily discoverable space for it, then I had two options: give up the interest, or Make a space.
So. about a month in, after meeting/gathering enough people who were at least acquainted / knew of shuuen no shiori, I made a Discord server, which was possibly the best decision of my life. soon, I had turned 15 years old.
I was a baby shuuenpro fan. most people who joined the server were older than me and had already known of shuuenpro for years... which was admittedly a bit scary to me! but I already had a lot of passion for shuuen, and I would do anything just to find a community for it. So, somehow, I started to find one there.
around 3 months later, I uhm, organized my first Shuuen-related event: an art week during the summer (Week of Demise 2019)! But I was still very anxious at the time and (for some reason afraid of tumblr?), so while i announced it on twitter/discord, feya was the one who posted it here iirc. In the following years (2020-2021), I would become confident enough to make the announcements myself
the second half of 2019 is a bit of a blur for me, but in a good way, really. I think by some point we had around 100 members in the server. I got to meet and talk to a lot of people, and by the end of the year, I had basically found a home. and I felt genuinely so. comfortable and good about this.
and then came the need to be helpful to people, which led to the creation of a shuuenpro guide on carrd. November 2019. because there weren't really any completely up-to-date masterposts on the series I could find at the time, I made one myself. which became used a lot over the years, I think? my website now is one of the top search results for shuuenpro, so I'd say it's notable enough
I think just. what makes shuuenpro so special to me really is that it marked the first time I ever tried to actively engage with a community outside of a small circle of friends. and just how fucking awesome and good it felt to be able to organize stuff for that, to help contribute resouces and try to like. encourage revived or new interests in the series. to feel like I'm a part of something bigger. like simply being passionate about something could lead to so much .
like yes, of course I care a lot about the unresolved mysteries of shuuen, as many others do, but I think being able to participate in discussions about them (even if we would never reach an actual conclusion) is such a big part of the fun. all of those theories that we can never affirm or debunk, but being able to collaboratively contribute more and more points to them, or derive new ones from old ones, no matter how ridiculous or absurd they actually were, etc. It's just. Fun. even now I find myself looking back at messages and going. Oh my god. I missed this. we should do this again.
I am grateful to Shuuen no Shiori, but I think what I really mean what I say that is that I really am grateful to all the people I've met while in the fanbase. All of the important connections I've formed and strengthened, all of the ways through the community that I've learned to better myself—as a person, as a leader, etc. A lot of the improvement to my mental health in early high school could be attributed to the Shuuenpro community, I swear. And there are valuable skills I've picked up and projects I've pursued all originating from a love for Shuuen no Shiori, and a love for a community that I've wanted to give back to.
because I also found so much of myself in the community. I came out of it with a new favorite animal, a new favorite color, new hobbies—goddamn it, Shuuenpro was how I discovered my gender identity, among other things. 😭 I learned a lot about myself, basically! and I might even go as far to say that like. I don't think I would really be a programmer (or at least, as good of one), and I definitely wouldn't be as interested in archiving data and creating resources in the first place, if I wasn't so inspired by shuuen
In other words, Shuuen no Shiori made me.
so a love letter isn't enough, really. 1,713 love letters isn't enough, either. it's just. not.
I'm here because I want to be here, because even if I joined later than most people, I feel like I've found a true place to belong. This is my home. No matter what happens, as long as there is a community here, as long as there are people who still love this series, I too will love it. I'll take my own love for it to the grave. I won't forget it.
#shuuen no shiori#shuuenpro#alt255.md#long post#Really long post#its shuuenpro sentimentality hours again yeah#Sorry if it doesn't make sense at some parts#basically what i'm saying is#I love you all . you have given me so much#I don't know how to say thank you enough#I can't express in words just how important this series is to me.#it feels important to me because you make it feel important.#because you love shuuenpro#and that love influences mine. and I have dedicated myself out of love for all of it#OK to reblog btw

Signalis Doom - 1
Starting a devlog now that i have a few lil things to show. I decided to get back into gzdoom, and i decided early on that since nobody had done Signalis Doom, i might as well. I've spent a few weeks on zscript and auxilery stuff, not doing as much mapping as i should. But i'm finally getting around to the Sig stuff.
There's a great deal to do here; i'm planning a full weapon replacement, enemy replacement to a degree, new textures, new maps, and new systems like companions and implimentaion of visual distortions. It's alot.

I've put togehter a todo board to help with this. Frankly, it's more fun to add things to the board than to do things on it, but oh well.
A critical issue that is going to come up again and again is that Signalis is a game made for a very specific camera angle, and the art is made to reflect that. Many of the textures are made to look best from that specific angle.
The lil black lines here ontop feed into the dark ceiling, as sig doesn't have any roofs. The bottom is meant to sell the connection between floor and wall. looks fine from an angle, looks odd in fps.
I can account for that, extending parts and removing dark lines and turning them into more conventional textures. that'll take alot of work for every one of them however, and woukld need to be done on a case by case basis as some have it more than others. I'm unsure if i should even bother, or jsut convert them as-is. We'll see, it's a stylistic choice. Using a texture lumpw ould let me mass import the wall models, so that's my first step, getting the walls and floors adn anything that follows a pattern in here.
people have modeled and textured much of the game in useable blender files, so i have a wealth of resouces to pull from. other people have done alot of the work here, i jsut need to assemble it.
Today, i'm planning to get as many of the textures in there as possible. Later, i'll need to start figuring out how i'm going to do the weapons/enemies, ie with custom sprtie art or sprite rendered models or just normal model md3s. we'll see.
it's alot of work but since i'm working with premade(stolen tbh) assets, it's going to go alot smoother than it would otherwise.

luv luv luv your blog(s), your posts make me strive to become my dream girl. any tips on having an abundance mindset / being happy for others? currently having some problems with only keeping info and resouces (like notes & lessons) to myself + not sharing it with anyone (even) close friends. ty so so so much for teaching us and giving us guides to become our best dream girls. all the best!!! 🎀🎀🎀
hi thank you!! i just always remember what’s meant for me truly and sincerely cannot and will not be taken from me. i have no issue being happy for people bc that success they’re experiencing in no way will diminish mine! there’s success to be had in any arena i choose to enter. now about keeping things to myself; i’ve always been a more private person just because i was always super shy! but then i started learning about “intention” and how people can really manifest bad things happening to you out of envy. and tbh it scared me. i try my hardest to not talk about things until i can SHOW for it. when it’s set in stone for sure. plus i’m a master gatekeeper lol so i love keeping info to myself until i’m ready to speak on it.

honestly though I like that sweden has a "public preschool should be avaliable to all"-policy but like. the resouces are insanely limited. I truly try my best, I care so much about the children I work with, I want to give them a good start in life but it's like. we have 16 1-2 year olds in one group on three adults. if one adult has to change a poopy diaper that suddenly becomes 15 toddlers on two adults. say two of them run into eachother and start crying, one adult has to help them and suddenly the last teacher is left with 13 toddlers to keep track of. that happens all the time and it's so unreasonable.
before summer a parent who's one year old will start in august was there visiting, they asked about the amount of kids, and looked really surprised when I said 16. like what am I supposed to say in that situation? I don't wanna make her worried about leaving her child with us so I have to be like "yeah it's a lot but we make it work" but the truth is like "yeah it's wayyyy too much, it's because money is more important than the childrens well-being to the people who decide these things :)". it's just. it feels really hopeless.
#tbh with the amount of pre-school teachers who get burned out and has to go on long term sick leave here#I kind of feel like it would be cheaper to just give us a little bit of resources and better chances to not burn out#so you wouldn't constantly have to pay for substitutes who don't know the kids or the workplace#also because that sub isn't doing the full work of the teacher on sick leave. I'm working like 130% to guide the sub and do extra things#so the teachers left become more stressed and long term are more likely to also get burned out#sorry I just. everytime I start thinking about it I get really angry and sad and idk how anyone thinks this is ok. I have to rant.

You have to understand that when a Marxist talks about capitalism, they effectively mean, "every system that doesn't put ownership of the means of production in the hands of the state exclusively." You aren't allowed to own shit in a socialist system, at best you hold it for the government.
So they simultaneously maintain this quantum position where capitalism represents a universe that isn't governed by socialist principles as a barbarous, unevolved dark age, and refuse to differentiate it from medieval merchantilism, monarchism or theocracy. To them, all those deaths belong to capitalism.
Unless they want to undermine capitalism (read: The right for an individual to own something the government is not allowed to take and nationalize out from under a private citizen) as illegitimate for its youth, then capitalism was a rich man's plot just 2 centuries ago, and they tie it hand in hand with European supremacists subjugating the globe of not-white people.
So using these fuzzy dates on when exactly we define capitalism to begin, where private business could be owned lock stock and barrel by private individuals and the state would guarantee and recognize that sovereignty of ownership, we get to the 16th century or so.
And given how they define responsibility for deaths, they view all deaths at that period as the fault of capitalism, since by their definition of things, capitalism is a "death cult that hates people over profit," and in their sanitized idealized view of themselves vs. their opponent, a society and economic system merged to one and married on the principles of "equality, equity and public property" wouldn't let people starve or die of necessary medicine.
They blame ALL deaths from war over land and resources as the fault of capitalism, just by virtue of not being the glorious solver of problems that is socialism. The way they tabulate, just the fact that human beings die at all is considered the fault of capitalism. And so, they'll gladly attribute all murders via guns, all murders via any crime at all, as the result of a social and economic system that isn't just giving people free shit at everybody elses expense, isn't printing money in the money machine to make it happen (whatever the cost) and isn't manufacturing endless access to expensive and difficult to acquire medicine for all- no matter how scarce the resouces, talent and how inefficient and clunky the process is to make it, thereby costing society tens of billions of dollars per unit of sub-par medicine.
You point out anything capitalist systems have actually accomplished, they dismiss it and go, "Our system would've solved this already, if you'd just adopt it and try to make it work for us." You point out capitalism combined with honest law and good faith citizens are destroying extreme poverty across Africa and Asia, they turn their noses up and go, "Labor is what's doing that, not capitalism.,"
Capitalism is merely the belief that what's mine is mine, and not subject to the government or society's control of it, just because I'm human, and that government claims to own me and what I make. The belief that you can legally own a thing privately and that the government must affirm, acknowledge and respect that, so long as you abide by all the right laws and codes. It is not a religion, it is not a death cult, it is not inherently tied to endless greed or murder in the name of surplus.
You point out that every attempt to make socialism work has resulted in the inevitable breakdown of society and the dissolution of the state because its ridiculous values don't work, and they sneer that it failed because of the CIA, or "that wasn't real socialism/communism." Or they blame capitalist nations for either polluting it so it'd fail, or just refuse to nurse it like a baby until it's strong enough (like China) to start trying to undermine, disrupt and undercut its neighbor for power.
Socialists and communists cannot survive without tenured cabals that parasite off the backs of intelligentsia and the ivory tower of learning across the developed world. They try and get strong enough to economically attack their neighbors, inevitably they fail because their system sucks and the stress causes a breakdown of their own values, necessitating either transfusion into fascism and despotism, or slow death.
They try and go the military route, they turn into FARC and become violent guerillas and propagandist terrorists.
And every time from their perspective, their attempts to destroy capitalism and "liberate" the people is justified, regardless of what the people want there. And when the locals get tired of being bombed, stabbed, extorted and terrorized, suddenly it's fascists or the CIA protecting oligarchs.

A thought that's been germinating in my head ever since I played Sonic Superstars: it smacks of "cargo cult game design". Like they "wanted to make it like Sonic Mania" or "wanted to make it like the Genesis games", but they didn't have a fully-functioning understanding of why those other games were good, or any ability to distinguish between "they were good because of X" versus "they were good in spite of X".
I tried looking up its development to see if it was particularly troubled, like if it ran into deadlines, or if there was anything like Sonic 2006 where half the team fucked off to make Sonic and the Secret Rings and then the bean-counters refused to let the remaining skeleton crew delay it, but there was nothing. The Sonic Superstars devs had a clear design ethos, they did the best they could and used their resouces as well as they could, it's just that both the design ethos and the execution thereof were not good.

In traditional village living, people went with the flow more. Hunters and gatherers OR early farmers, they worked together as a community to get things done. Whatever you were good at, that helped the village, you did. Leaders were the ones who were best at recognizing strengths in others. Storytellers, often elders, kept the culture alive while caring for the children. Usually men were the hunters and protectors, but if a woman was good at it? No problem! Whatever helped people survive. That doesn't mean that everything was easy... or that all people were good. But MOST people were and ARE good. So small communities thrived, and made connections with other small communities creating a global network.
In teacher talk, we learn about "21st century skills". But really, the most critical skills are no different today than they were 10, 20, 100 or even 1,000 years ago. Children need to feel loved and safe to grow and learn, and so do adults!
We think now about things like a "global culture", again, like it's something new. But a long time ago people still connected globally. There were always travellers and traders, herders and sailors, people who moved around the globe.
So what feels so different, and even wrong, about today's world? In my mind there are two things - the speed at which we travel, talk, think and work; and how large our rulers' domains have gotten. Oh yes, and the power of money!
I often think that people forget that money isn't "real" in the sense that it was totally artificially created for our convenience. All that happened was that we got too complex as a species for our traditional barter and trade system, so people started trading shiny things or small metal discs, etc., instead. Eventually money as we know it today evolved. And there is nothing wrong with it, in theory, but when it rules the world...? Then there is a problem! People, plants, animals, and nature in general should ALWAYS come first.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk. Tune in later for more reflections. 😘

(UNKNOWN LOCATION, TEN MINUTES AFTER VIDEO IS SENT)
Ah, perfect. That should send fear into the CSB. Now then, Radmann, where were---?
(Kelso turns around to see that Randy Radman is gone. He was teleported out by the 5 of us to GEOGRAM HQ, but he left behind a note.)
"This party stinks in more ways than one! I'm outta here! - RR"
(Kelso crumples the note in her hands as she raises her fist into the sky.)
CURSE YOU, COLORSTREAK BATALLIOOOOOON!!!
(IN GEOGRAM HQ, A LITTLE WHILE LATER)
(Radmann was safely teleported out, and Henry and Ellie are currently walking him out of Dr. V's office.)
You okay, Radmann?
I feel like I just got hit by a disco ball the size of a WRECKING ball...
You just sit down right here.
(Randy is sat down, as all of us begin to talk with him. His hand is now in a cast, and the eye that had been gouged out has been replaced with a cybernetic one.)
So, Randy. You got any idea where you were holed up? We managed to lock onto your biosignature, but Kelso must've made it so the location you were in got scrambled.
Nope, sorry. No idea at all. She had me sedated while she was taking me to wherever she holed me up at. I wish I could tell you, but whatever venue she had me holed up at was a private booking.
Okay. Second question: When did she get rid of your eye?
Probably when I was sedated. I woke up like this. My fingers, tho, she broke those while I was wide awake. Damn, that was my record-scratching hand, too!
It'll heal up, Randy, I'm sure of it. Third and final question: Do you think Kelso can track you, and do you think she could come over here to get you back?
Nah. She told me she didn't put anything on me because of a risk of hackers like you 5 revealing the location. She didn't even try making any decoys of me because it would be a "waste of resources, and I want all resouces to go to killing Violet and the others." She really wants the 5 of you to drop dead, whether on the dance floor or not.
Well, glad to know you're safe, Radmann. You won't be able to do your DJ work for a bit, but to be honest, we're just glad we were able to teleport you out.
Yeah. Glad to be back. I'll help ol' Copperbottom and RHM fix the Airship. I fortified it for the clan the first time, may as well help 'em fix it.
Radmann, I don't think you should go outside right now. Kelso's probably gonna try and look for you. But...
(Alter whips out a tiny spherical hologram projector.)
...who said that was a problem?
For real? Man, you are AWESOME, Alter. With this little doo-dad, I can keep the party going without risking Kelso getting me again! Thanks, man.
No problem, Radmann. Rest up for now.
Sure thing, Alter. Y'all are the best crowd a guy could ask for!
(Radmann walks off, however, an alert pops off on Alter's phone.)
[ALERT! TRACKING FOR CAROL CROSS HAS GONE OFFLINE!]
[REASON: KIDNAPPED]
[KIDNAPPER IDENTIFIED AS SARAH KELSO]
KELSO GOT MY MOM!!!
Oh no...
(MEANWHILE, IN THE UNKNOWN LOCATION...)
I'm so glad you were just out in the open like that, Carol. Made my job WAAAY easier.
Listen VERY carefully, Kelso. I would like to make a deal with you here.
I'm listening, Carol.
You promise not to kill me or gouge my eyes out like what you did with Radmann, and I'll go easy on you once I'm freed by Alter and his group of friends.
I guess it is inevitable they'll find you. Fine. I promise I won't kill you, or do anything severely injuring to you.
Good. Thank you for co-operating with me, Kels---
(Kelso whips out a metal baseball bat with a snake pattern printed on it and hits one of Carol's legs HARD, causing the bones in her leg to break.)
YYYYYAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!
Causing injuries, like a broken leg, isn't off the table, though.
Fine. I'll let it happen.
(Carol is then wheeled off just like Radmann was. Carol's far stronger-willed than Radmann, so she can both physically and mentally take the beating Kelso will give to her. And Kelso may be evil, but she's a woman of her word, so she won't kill or severely maim Carol.)
(Let's just hope she can continue to hold out for a bit longer...)
