The performance and health checks were excellent again this year. During the tests, I exceeded my own best marks in several disciplines.
I feel fit and efficient. But why am I telling you this?
Because my performance is no coincidence, but decades of routines, knowledge and discipline. And I'm sure that what works for me can also help you.
Health and nutrition are complex topics, but I would like to share two things with you here:
The basics remain crucial
Even competitive athletes like me, with all the access to experts, medicine or technology, focus primarily on the basics: a combination of sleep, training, supplements and nutrition. Of course, the devil is in the detail, but it's important for me to convey that you generally hold all the cards when it comes to your health.

My current focus in terms of nutrition
In terms of nutrition, my focus in recent years has been on optimizing my protein intake and getting good phytochemicals and fibre from vegetables, berries and nuts.
I have been working on this.
When it comes to protein, I've particularly worked on the quantity, and I currently try to consume around 150 g of protein per day. Through healthy meals, but also through protein shakes or snacks. This was also a motivation for the RDY Protein Meal, which I launched together with ESN in May. The 38g of protein per bottle brings me much closer to my goal.
So, if you want to do something for your health, I recommend focusing on the basics first. I think we all have a pretty good sense of what's right here. Getting enough sleep and regular exercise is a great start. Add balanced and preferably fresh ingredients on top and you're on the right track.

cheeky lil personal post for funsies
so I’ve been like, sick sick for a while, but in the last two weeks especially, it’s been particularly bad. Not flu stuff, but really bad vertigo almost every day, food turns my stomach, my chest feels weird, my body wants to sleep at all times, but I wake up way too early, I’ve lost all semblance of dexterity, my nails are all sorts of wrong, and I literally can’t make my brain focus on a sentence long enough to finish it. I’m a pretty athletic, high energy person, and now I’m exhausted all the time and finding my phone to be heavy to hold in my fingers. Roommates are pretty sure its anemia, (I’ve been unintentionally very negligent abt eating apparently) and I started taking iron supplements, but its incredibly stressful, and I’m really grateful its kicked into high gear only after my classes are done, because I don’t know how I would feel teaching combat to kids with this little stability. I can’t even draw on a sketchbook page properly because my hands are unsteady, so I’ve been leaning on line smoothing in photoshop. I weaseled my way into seeing a doctor on wednesday, but I’m genuinely terrified I’m going to go in and they’re gonna just tell me nothing’s wrong, and I’m gonna be back to square one.
anyway I’m just living in anxiety city until then. unrelated, I’ve taken up residence at my local library. Its like a sensory depravation tank in the best way, and so good for writing. So there’s that at least!
