1912 – (John) Keith Vaughan (d.1977) was an English painter. After attending Christ's Hospital school, he worked in an advertising agency until the war, when as a conscientious objector he joined the St John's Ambulance. In 1941 he was conscripted into the Pioneer Corps. Vaughan was self-taught as an artist. His first exhibitions took place during the war.
Also during the war Vaughan formed friendships with the painters Graham Sutherland and John Minton, with whom after demobilisation in 1946 he shared premises. Through these contacts he formed part of the Neo-Romantic circle of the immediate post-war period. However, Vaughan rapidly developed an idiosyncratic style which moved him away from the Neo-Romantics. Concentrating on studies of male figures, his works became increasingly more abstract with time.
Tumblr media
Joseph and His Brethren
From 1946 to 1948 he taught at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts. During this time a penniless painting student, Ramsey McClure, turned up at his doorstep, and they became partners and lived together for 30 years.
Keith Vaughan met many other gay figures from art and literature including Christopher Isherwood, (as noted in his diaries for 1947 and 1948), and E M Forster.
Keith Vaughan taught at the Central School of Arts and Crafts from 1948 to 1957. He painted the Theseus mural decoration in the Festival of Britain Dome of Discovery in 1951.
From 1954 he taught at the Slade School of Fine Art, where he taught David Hockney. He also travelled extensively and was visiting resident artist at Iowa State University during 1959. In 1962 a retrospective of his work was held at Whitechapel Art Gallery with an Arts Council tour. In 1964 he received an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal College of Art. In 1965 he was awarded the CBE.
Vaughan is also known for his journals, selections from which were published in 1966 and more extensively in 1989, after his death. He was a gay man troubled by his sexuality, and much of what is known about him is through those journals. In the journals, he decided to be truthful about his homosexuality. Following this line he wrote explicitly about his sexual practices with other men, masturbation, and experiments with sadomasochism. Vaughan's journals give insight into the relationships he had with other men, particularly with his working-class lovers, John McGuiness and Johnny Walsh, and his long-term companion and lover Ramsey McClure. Like many middle-class gay men of his generation, he was attracted to an ideal of working-class masculinity. Although Vaughan wrote freely about his sexuality in his journals (and in the erotic short stories he wrote for his own pleasure), he was a product of his age. He had grown up at a time when gay men were driven underground into their own subculture and made to feel guilty about their sexual preferences.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 1975 and committed suicide in 1977, recording his last moments in his diary as the drugs overdose took effect.

1933 – Peter Wyngarde (d.2018) was a British actor best known for playing the character Jason King, a bestselling novelist turned sleuth, in two television series: Department S (1969–70) and Jason King (1971–72). His flamboyant dress sense and stylish performances led to popular success, and he was considered a style icon in Britain and elsewhere in the early 1970s; Mike Myers credited Wyngarde with inspiring the character Austin Powers.
He was born in Marseille, France, the son of an English father and a French mother. His father worked for the British Diplomatic Service, and as a result his childhood was spent in a number of different countries. In 1941, while his parents were away in India, he went to stay with a Swiss family in Shanghai. When the Imperial Japanese Army invaded the city, they were captured and placed in the Lung-hai concentration camp. Conditions in the camp were sometimes harsh. On one occasion Peter had both his feet broken and spent two weeks in solitary confinement after being caught taking messages between camp huts.
As a young man he went into acting and from the mid 1950s had various roles acting in feature films, television plays and television series guest appearances. In the late 1960s he was a regular guest star on many of the popular UK series of the day — many of which were espionage adventure series — including The Avengers, The Saint, The Baron, and The Champions. He also played the rotating guest-star role of the villainous Number Two in the episode 'Checkmate' of the cult series The Prisoner, which took place in a community of spies who had retired... or been retired.
Wyngarde became a British household name through his starring role in the espionage series Department S (1969). After that series ended, his character, the suave womaniser Jason King, was spun-off into a new action espionage series entitled Jason King (1971), which ran for one season (26 one-hour episodes).
From 1956, he had a no-so-secret, ten-year-long relationship with fellow actor Alan Bates. In the 1960s, he had shared a flat with Alan Bates; according to some sources this was a sexual relationship. In 1975, he was arrested and convicted for an act of "gross indecency" with a truck driver in the toilets of Gloucester bus station, which followed an arrest and caution for similar activities in the toilets at Kennedy Gardens in Birmingham the previous year. After the first incident, Wyngarde had provided interviews for the Sunday tabloid press (News of the World and the Birmingham based Sunday Mercury) where he claimed that the arrest was due to a mis-understanding. The second incident severely damaged his reputation, and he claimed he had suffered a "mental aberation" in his defence. Although it caused a scandal, particularly with his audience who largely identified him as ladies man Jason King, Wyngarde's homosexuality was actually well known in acting circles, where he was known by the nickname of "Petunia Winegum".
After losing his TV celebrity status, Wyngarde worked in Austria, acting and directing at the English Theatre in Vienna, and in South Africa and Germany. He also landed the role of General Klytus in the film version of Flash Gordon, although it is perhaps significant that the part required him to wear a metal mask throughout.
During the 1980s and 1990s he made a number of TV appearances, including the Doctor Who serial Planet of Fire (1984), Hammer House Of Horror & Suspense (1986), The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (1994) and the film Tank Malling (1989).
In recent years he had been a regular, warmly welcomed guest at Memorabilia, a cult, science fiction and sporting memorabilia fayre at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, UK. In 2007, Wyngarde participated in recording featurettes for a reissue of The Prisoner on DVD, including a mock interview segment titled "The Pink Prisoner"; this material was released in The Prisoner DVD set issued in the UK in 2007 and in North America on both DVD and Blu-ray in October 2009.
His agent and manager reported that Wyngarde was admitted to the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London in October 2017 with an unspecified illness. He died on 15 January 2018.

1958 – Neil Bartlett, OBE, is a British director, performer, translator, and writer. He is one of the founding members of Gloria, a production company established in 1988 to produce his work along with that of Nicolas Bloomfield, Leah Hausman and Simon Mellor.
His work has garnered several awards, including the 1985 Perrier Award (for More Bigger Snacks Now), the Time Out Dance Umbrella Award (for A Vision of Love Revealed in Sleep), a Writers Guild Award (for Sarrasine), a Time Out Theatre Award (for A Judgement in Stone), and the Special Jury Prize at the Cork Film Festival (for Now That It's Morning). His production of The Dispute won a Time Out Award for Best Production in the West End and the 1999 TMA Best Touring Production award. He was appointed an OBE in 2000 for his services to the arts.
He also served as artistic director at the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith from 1994 until 2004. Many of his translations of classic plays have been performed throughout the world.
Who Was That Man showed how the gay history of London in the 1890s affected Bartlett's life as a gay man in London in the 1980s. His latest novel, The Disappearance Boy was published in London by Bloomsbury Circus publishing in January 2014.

1978 – Andrew Rannells is an American actor and singer best known for his work as Elder Price in the 2011 Broadway musical The Book of Mormon, which earned him a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical. As a featured soloist on the musical's Original Broadway Cast Recording, he won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. His other Broadway credits include Jersey Boys and Hairspray.
Rannells plays the recurring role of Elijah on the HBO television series Girls, as well as playing lead character Bryan Collins in Ryan Murphy's television series The New Normal, now cancelled.
Rannells is of Polish and Irish descent, and he is openly gay. He knew he was gay by high school. Rannells said he came out to his family when he was 18, but by then they had already figured it out. He also came out to his theater friends but not the people at his all-boys Catholic school.
Rannells currently lives in New York City after temporarily re-locating to Los Angeles to film The New Normal. He played Larry in the 2018 Broadway revival of The Boys in the Band. It was a limited run, in honor of the play's 50th anniversary. It won a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play. He revived his role (along with the rest of the revival cast) for the film adaptation for Netflix, which was released on September 30, 2020.
Since 2019, he has been in a relationship with actor Tuc Watkins. The two met the year before while playing a couple on the Broadway production of The Boys in the Band. They reprised their roles for Netflix's film version of the show and also worked together on Black Monday in 2020.

1989 – Brian Michael Firkus , better known by the stage name Trixie Mattel, is an American drag queen, television personality, and singer-songwriter originally from Wausaukee, Wisconsin. He is known for his exaggerated, high-camp style and blend of comedy and acoustic pop. In 2015 he competed on the seventh season of the drag competition RuPaul's Drag Race, where she finished in 6th place. In 2018, she went on to win the third season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars.
Brian Michael Firkus was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and raised in Silver Cliff, Wisconsin. He is Ojibwe and comes from a Native American family in Crivitz, Wisconsin. He had an abusive stepfather who would call him a "Trixie" when he acted feminine, which later inspired his drag name. His last name was inspired by his affinity for the Barbie doll and toy company Mattel. Before deciding on "Trixie Mattel" as his drag name, he originally considered the name Cupcake. He moved in with his grandparents at age 15. His grandfather was a country musician who taught him how to play the guitar.
Firkus is proudly gay. Since 2016, he has been in a relationship with filmmaker David Silver, who also produced his documentary Moving Parts. He is a vegetarian, an atheist, and a collector of Barbie dolls.

Summer vacation ideas while there's still time: Here are 6 smart spots to consider
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s still plenty of time this summer to make topnotch travel getaway plans. Sure, a road trip to the mountains or a week at the beach is ideal for a well-deserved summer vacation — but if you’re looking for some suggestions that are an airplane away, read on. Fox News Digital spoke to several travel experts to find out how to pursue your wanderlust, whether it’s a solo trip, a couple’s escape, a friends’ getaway or a special family vacation.INTERNATIONAL DESTINATIONS YOU CAN TRAVEL TO THIS SUMMER FOR THE ULTIMATE VACATIONCheck out these six intriguing options, each with plenty to offer.Whether you want to explore your (or a friend’s or family member’s) Irish heritage, play golf or immerse yourself in the food and drink scene, the Emerald Isle is a place to consider. It offers a unique blend of bustling cities such as Dublin and Belfast, charming coastal cities like Cork and Galway, and rolling countryside towns throughout the spectacular island. Getting there is a cinch, as there are direct flights from Midwest and East Coast airports — making it easy for the young and the young at heart. TRAVELING TO PARIS? 6 THINGS TO DO ASIDE FROM WATCHING THE OLYMPICS While in Ireland, be sure to visit the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, which offers a “brewery experience” while sharing tales of “Ireland’s famous beer” with tastings and a rooftop bar, according to its website; and consider a visit to the whiskey distilleries of Jameson, Teeling and Pearse Lyons. Afterward, consider the centrally located Grafton Hotel for a peaceful night’s rest. The summer months are considered the best time to travel to Ireland, according to Intrepid Travel, an agency based in Canada. While you might enjoy nice weather, summer is also peak season — so you can expect crowds at popular destinations. WORLD TRAVELERS GAVE UP EVERYTHING TO SEE 92 COUNTRIES AND COUNTING: ‘WHY NOT?’If you want to avoid the crowds, look into traveling during the “shoulder” season in autumn, according to Tourism Ireland.Another destination to consider as a summer escape is Catalina Island, which is about 50 miles off the coast of Los Angeles. It’s roughly an hour’s ferry ride. Offering something for almost every type of traveler, the versatile destination has fine dining and luxury hotels. Visitors can also camp within the island’s wild terrain.Other highlights are water activities like swimming, snorkeling, kayaking or paddleboarding.ARE YOU PLANNING A TRIP TO CALIFORNIA? HERE’S A GUIDE TO ATTRACTIONS TO ADD TO YOUR VISITWhile on land, consider touring the Wrigley Memorial and Botanic Gardens, plus savor the natural beauty of more than 100 hiking trails on the island. “Catalina Island provides a Mediterranean-style escape closer to the West Coast and is a good alternative to Capri, Italy,” said Christie Hudson, travel expert at Expedia in Seattle. “Both destinations offer breathtaking coastal views, clear waters ideal for snorkeling and a relaxed island atmosphere.”Yet the price difference is huge. FROM FLORIDA TO CALIFORNIA: THE MOST POPULAR VACATIONS IN AMERICA TO BOOK RIGHT NOWA flight from Austin, Texas, to Los Angeles is $310 compared to a flight from Austin to Naples, Italy — which averages $1,870, said Hudson.   If you dream of a splurge-worthy dream trip to Italy but don’t want to face the crowds this summer — consider an alternate Italian trip. Zicasso CEO Brian Tan, based in Mountain View, California, said that while Italy remains a high-demand destination for Zicasso travelers, the travel company is seeing a rise in slightly lesser-known regions, such as the Dolomites in northern Italy. DOG MOM SPENDS $900 TAKING HER PUP ON MONTH-LONG EUROPEAN VACATION ACROSS ITALY: ‘GREAT COMPANION’”It’s off-the-beaten path from the usual Rome/Florence/Venice crowds, has cooler temperatures, amazing mountain vistas, lush valleys, memorable drives, and charming towns, including Cortina D’Ampezzo, host of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games,” said Tan. Furthermore, a region like the Dolomites can be paired easily with traditionally popular major gateway cities like Rome, he said. Copenhagen is likely the most visited city in Denmark. This Scandinavian country offers endless opportunities for culture, history and foodie experiences, plus coastal benefits. “Denmark is a surprisingly good place for a beach holiday in peak summer, with over 4,500 miles of coastline and uncrowded, white, sandy beaches,” said Daniel Burnham, senior flight expert with Going.com. “Within the past 10 days we’ve seen nonstop fares to Copenhagen from $375 nonstop out of Boston, New York, Miami, Chicago, Atlanta and Los Angeles for travel from July-November 2024,” he also said.  TRAVELING INTERNATIONALLY? IT COULD BE ILLEGAL TO BRING ALONG THESE MEDICATIONS, ACCORDING TO A PHARMACISTIn addition, a Denmark trip can be a launching point for seeing other European countries,c such as Finland, Norway, Sweden or the United Kingdom. If you’re a Caribbean enthusiast but don’t want the same “been there, done that” island experience, it might be time to consider Saint Vincent — where the “Pirates of the Caribbean” was filmed. “There’s a new Sandals there now, and it’s a sweet property,” said Kelley Connor, a travel adviser with AAA Club Alliance in Marlton, New Jersey. For more Lifestyle articles, visit www.foxnews.com/lifestyle”It’s the first all-inclusive [offering] on the island, located on 50 lush acres with a beautiful beach and surrounded by mountains and rainforest.”Saint Vincent is south of St. Lucia in the Eastern Caribbean. “Right now, it’s pure and undisturbed, providing a relaxing vacation that offers the best of all beach vacations without the hordes of tourists,” Connor said. “The rainforest is filled with tropical birds and cascading waterfalls, and the snorkeling and scuba diving is sublime, due to the exotic beauty beneath the quiet turquoise waters.”Gulf Shores, Alabama is gaining popularity among travelers who are seeking a blend of pristine beaches, outdoor activities and southern hospitality, according to Booking.com information shared with Fox News Digital. CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTERIt’s a quintessential beach escape — with 32 miles of white, sandy beaches perfect for swimming, sunbathing and water sports. Be sure to make time for Gulf State Park, a must-visit for nature enthusiasts — plus it offers kayaking, fishing and hiking. Also, a dolphin cruise showcases the region’s scenic beauty of the Gulf while offering the chance to spot these adorable mammals. This destination is very family-friendly and ideal for a multi-generational trip.

Day 12: Cusco - In Which I Do Not Kill Us Both
We had been messaged, late last night, by the purveyors of the ATV tour we were due to embark upon today, informing us that our meeting time had been amended from 6:45, to 7:00am. This extra fifteen minutes of sleep, you'd imagine, should have come as something of a boon to us, though given that until the point at which we received that message, we had believed, with full conviction that we were supposed to meet at 9, it actually came as something of a withering blow. Regardless, we pulled ourselves out of bed at six in the bastard morning, like the heroes we are and some time later, after a very sad breakfast, left our apartment to endure the twenty minute walk to the office, in the freezing morning mountain air.
We didn't have to wait long before our minibus arrived, to whisk us away to the other, higher mountains to begin our day. Or we wouldn't have done, at least if we had boarded the correct bus. Somehow, despite confirming with the driver that we were indeed going on an ATV tour with the correct company at the correct time for us to be picked up, we (they) had managed to beef the situation pretty hard, leaving us bound for the incorrect place, on the incorrect bus. Fortunately, the mistake was rectified after only a couple of blocks and we were unceremoniously dumped back on the street, left to trudge unhappily back to the offices. A good start, I think we can all agree.
Not long after that, we were picked up by the actually correct driver (at least we thought so; he called me by name, so he was either the right guy, or it was the most sophisticated scam I've ever been targeted by) and, after whizzing around the city to pick up some fellow quadders, none of whom were particularly interesting enough to mention, we were finally embarking on our adventure, on the right bus, to the right place and everything.
The bus ride was longer than expected, clocking in at just over an hour, winding through bumpy, uneven country paths, up into the even-more-mountainous bit of Cusco. Sam, who suffers quite badly from travel sickness, strangely did not enjoy the journey as much as me, and was left feeling rather peaky, to put it as crudely as I have been permitted to, by the end of it. Now all pale and shaky and one sad breakfast lighter, Sam no longer felt comfortable riding her own ATV and so, instead opted to jump into the passenger seat of mine and cling onto me like a sloth, for the duration, as demonstrated in this not at all terrible selfie.
Tumblr media
#clout
Now having been given the added stress of having an additional person to try not to kill, we were instructed to try out a few practice laps along an empty stretch of road, which I did expertly, only Austin-Powersing the ATV at a particularly narrow turning point once, in the process.
Now a bonafide quad-bike expert and none of you can say otherwise, we set off for our first destination of the day; the Maras Salt Flats.
I found myself paying very, very little attention to the, frankly quite impressive scenery on the way
Tumblr media
This is nothing to me
Instead opting to focus mostly on not running our bike into a ditch or crashing into a bush. Though, generally, despite my initial nervousness, I settled into the driving fairly quickly, only filling my pants once or twice, when passed by huge, speeding buses, travelling the opposite way along the narrow, dusty road, which we shared Somehow not dead, though, we arrived at the salt flats and disembarked our bikes for a quick look around, down ten soles which we had to pay for the entrance fee, even though you'd definitely expect that to be covered by the agency under almost any other circumstance.
The flats were, however, pretty cool and probably well worth the entrance fee, despite the relatively little time we were given to gawk at them
Tumblr media
Kind of.
though after around fifteen minutes of staring out at this bizarre and genuinely quite impressive alien landscape,
Tumblr media
Spooky. And salty.
we were quickly ushered away to the a series of market stalls, essentially operating as the gift shop, where we were left to mill around for substantially more time than we were given to look at the actual flats themselves - in a move which I felt was perhaps a little crass and inorganic. I still bought myself some salty chocolate, though, so I guess I'm a capitalist pig, too.
Back at the bikes, our group was given a choice, we could either go with Moses, our guide, to see Moray; an impressive, sprawling set of Inca ruins, set deep in the heart of the sacred valley, or...we could side with the other guide, whose name I never got, and go to a big splashy lake, yaaaay. Entrance to Moray costing seventy extra soles which we frankly, could not spare and also my disproportionate love of having a bit of a paddle coming into play, we opted to go to the lagoon.
We quadded there without issue and soon arrived at a genuinely pretty lovely little lake
Tumblr media
Moist.
where we were given another (woefully inadequate) fifteen minutes to explore, nearly all of which I spend knee deep in weirdly freezing lake-water
After what must have been actually closer to ten minutes, we were called back to the ATVs and so, with a heavy heart, I dredged myself out of the water and, now with the added bonus of having cold, wet feet, popped myself back on the bike.
We drove back to base-camp, again without incident, meaning that I had completed the entire day without crashing the bike and/or horribly injuring either myself or my girlfriend – which I'd call an unexpected win – and, with the package now complete, we were loaded back onto the minibus to Cusco, with almost negative fanfare, if such a thing is even possible, and fucked back to the city, like a bag of shitty nappies.
We were dropped off...almost at the main square – pretty much as close to it as the driver could be bothered going, I think – and headed to the first place we could find, for some much needed lunch. The first place we could find, as it turned out, was actually quite a fancy hotel, right in the middle of the tourist-zone. This meant not only that we were basically paying UK prices for, admittedly very nice, sandwiches, but also, given that we were dressed for ATVing (a difference from the norm which much more noticeably effected Sam, than I) and covered from head to toe in dust, from our earlier efforts, meant we stood out like sore, dirty, tired, scummy thumbs. Regardless, we endured the stares and tuts from the other eatery patrons- an act at which, by now, I am an expert – munched through our food and paid in full, like we were in Pretty Woman, or something. I don't know, I haven't seen it, but that sounds about right.
After our lunch, we were left with little in the way of plans. It was only around mid-day and we didn't fancy going back to the apartment, quite yet, as good as going back to sleep definitely sounded to both of us. We had read of some Inca Ruins just a little bit outside the city centre called Saqsaywaman (very amusingly pronounced “sexy woman”). At just a fifteen minute walk from the Plaza Del Armas, we thought we'd be foolish not to go and have a look. Sure entrance, much like Moray, cost seventy soles, but apparently you could get a genuinely good-enough view of them from outside, peering over the fence, like some nonce from the 80s, and that sentence, as frequent readers of my blog will know, is like catnip to me. Looking at things from the outside, without paying, that is. Not the nonce part...
As it turned out, Google Map's estimation of the walk taking fifteen minutes was optimistic at best and a flat out lie at worst. It may have taken that long if it were at sea level, and the entirety of the trek wasn't straight up and I could breathe properly and didn't have to take a five minute break after every flight of stairs, but all of those things were the case and, as it stood, it actually took closer to forty. That forty minute walk, incidentally, was to Saqsaywaman's first entrance; the one from which you could peer over no fences and see no ruins, and so we had to keep walking, for close to an hour, also uphill, to get to the auxiliary peeping entrance. A walk which, by the way, shouldn't have taken that long, even at high altitude, though we had to stop every few seconds, so Sam could  have a right good complain, and, honestly? that really tacked on some travel time, if I'm being real.
After a very wearying amount of both walking and snipping, we finally arrived at entrance two, which we milled about, genuinely suspiciously, attempting to figure out the best way to steal a glimpse of the ruins. As it turned out, that would be by walking another two or so minutes along the road to a gap in the hedge. Sam, being the Lawful Good sort she is, was very concerned that we would be stopped, fined and/or get in trouble from the Saqsay tour guides, though I, being somehow the more relaxed of us two, was less concerned about this, given that ten feet away from where we had parked up, a double decker tour bus had stopped to lets its passengers take as many pictures of the ruins as they liked, over the hedge.
Having had our fill of sexy women, we made the significantly easier walk back downhill, taking a clever shortcut, sort of, to get back to our flat, without having to endure too many stairs. If I'm totally honest, the end result of all the walking to the ruins, probably wasn't really worth the energy expended in getting there, but don't tell Sam, though. She'll think it means she wins.
After an early start and close to twenty thousand steps, most of which were at a frankly silly incline, by the time we were home, I was absolutely ruined, as I seem to be every evening on this trip, except far, far worse. I made us dinner, because I am a hero and clambered back into bed- the only warm(ish) part of the entire flat – to eat it while watching a terrible film, expecting my shortness of breath, tightness in my chest and heart palpitations to abate after a short while. They did not, which was quite worrying, to be honest. I briefly considered that I might be having a stroke or something, but didn't voice my concerns for fear that it might have made Sam thought that she had won, and so, bravely soldiered on in silence, until I managed to fall asleep, instead. I wasn't having a stroke, by the way. Or if I was, I dealt with it incredibly well and can't see what the big deal is about, really...

Useful tips when you are about to start a vacation
When you’re planning to go out for a vacation, then we have a few tips for you to share. If this time you’ve got plans to have an extended holiday, then you should consider a couple of things for enjoying a hassle-free journey starting from booking your flights to Atlanta from UK or any other place that you decide to go. Find the best travel agency online with the best flight aggregator search engine to find the best deals on your next flights to any chosen destination.
Let’s find out the useful tips that you can consider doing before going out for your vacation—
Arrange the documents
If you’re planning for an offshore tour, despite booking your flights to Austin from London months before the journey date, don’t forget to get a separate satchel and stuff in the passports, boarding passes and other documents that you’ll have to produce during the immigration. It is always advised to keep the nationality proof and other documents clarifying your nationality, age, job, status of residence, and so on.
Exchange currency
When it comes to carrying cash after booking cheap flights to Baltimore months before your journey date, you need to be extra careful after exchanging. Alongside keeping the international credit card or debit card, you need to have some currency as well. You can exchange it at the airport or you can also do it beforehand from the exchange units of the banks or other reliable sources. You can also use cryptocurrency for additional safety!
Team up with a travel agent
With the increasing complexities to immigrate to a new country after the COVID-19, you should team up with a travel agency whether to book your flights to Lake City from UK or for planning the whole itinerary including booking the hotels and arranging the rental car services to provide you with the best comfort.

The photo below is a Palestinian. He can’t breathe… How many know that Israel is training 100s of our law enforcement agencies in “crowd control”? Is excessive force any wonder? Since 2004, the Anti Defamation League has taken American law enforcement on annual trips to Israel, where, the ADL says, the cops get “strategies and best practices in fighting terror” from “Israeli experts.”
The ADL trips, and similar jaunts sponsored by the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs and the American Jewish Committee’s Project Interchange, are promoted as ways for U.S. law enforcement to learn how Israel deals with terrorism and to forge ties with Israeli security forces. The pro-Israel groups typically pay for the officers’ trips to Israel.
Following israel’s tactics: Sixteen law enforcement officials from across the United States are visiting Israel to learn how Israel’s police, intelligence and security forces prevent terror attacks. The week long program, part of the Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL) National Counter-Terrorism Seminar, will be held March 20-27….consists of law enforcement leaders from the four largest police departments in the U.S.– New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia– 𝙖𝙨 𝙬𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣'𝙨 𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡, 𝙒𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙤𝙣, 𝘿.𝘾, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙢𝙖𝙟𝙤𝙧 𝙛𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙐.𝙎. Fifteen members of U.S. Security agencies and police departments travelled to Israel in September 2015 to engage in counter-terrorism training sessions, led by Israeli counter-terrorism officers. The trip was sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League, and according to the organization's director, the participants, “learn[ed] lessons from Israel in terms of tactics and strategies and the evolution of terrorism.” Officials hailing from the U.S. Marshalls Service, U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police, as well as the Chicago, Las Vegas, Austin, Seattle, Oakland and Miami-Dade police departments, participated in this training exercise.
A diverse group of 52 law enforcement officers from 12 U.S. states visited Israel and participated in joing training sessions with their Israeli counterparts during September 2017.  This program, known as the Police Unity Tour, has been held periodically since 1997.

Over 100 Minnesota law enforcement officers attended a 2012 conference organized by the Israeli consulate in which Israeli police trained them. Israeli forces often use the knee-on-neck restraint on Palestinians. Israel has been training law enforcement officers around the US for many years…

DO YOU NEED A VIRTUAL ASSISTANT?
Tumblr media
As an author, you are always juggling. Not only are you writing the next book, but you are promoting your latest book, writing a monthly newsletter, keeping up with your blog (or other blogs), and updating your website. And that’s just for starters. This is where a virtual assistant (sometimes called an author assistant) comes in handy. They can help you gain some breathing space and may even boost sales with their knowledge of promotions. These assistants—who don’t have to be in the same office, or even same city, as you—handle a multitude of tasks, including: Marketing, from writing press releases and newsletter to coordinating contests and giveaways. Some virtual assistants have graphic artist experience and can create the promotions for you. Social media management. VAs will handle social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Instagram, YouTube, etc., creating content and replying to comments. Scheduling. An assistant can help you with whatever you need to schedule, from speaking events and book signings to blog tours. Website and blog management. VAs may update websites as needed (new books, events, photos of you, etc.). They can also write content for your blog, or help you by brainstorming ideas. Database administration. If you need to maintain any sort of database—for NetGalley requests, Goodreads giveaways, newsletter signups, etc.—an assistant can keep track of these. Online research. Some assistants do research and fact-checking. Other assistance. This can include monitoring email, sending out cards and letters, ordering supplies, and making travel arrangements. Depending on their skills set, some offer book formatting services. Most authors seem to use virtual assistants to develop marketing plans and run promotions. You could, as an author, do this on your own. But experienced virtual assistants have already done this for other clients and know how best to promote your book. How to work with a VA Most virtual assistants charge $25 to $50 an hour for their services. You don’t need to hire them full-time, although you can. You may need them just for a few hours a month, or to work on a specific project. “Each virtual assistant will have a different skill set,” said Jenel Looney, who works full-time for three authors. “If you want someone to create marketing graphics for you, make sure that she knows how, and that you like her style. If you want someone to help you brainstorm contests that will get readers excited about your books, make sure you hire a VA that has creative ideas that are in line with your readers’ tastes. If you want someone to handle a large mailing for you (like the 30,000 bookmarks I recently mailed to Susan Mallery’s readers), make sure you hire a VA who has mad organizational skills.” If you know that you will have to promote your book (because your traditional publisher only does so much, or you are self-publishing), then your VA can help you come up with creative promotions. For example, Looney, who works with mystery author Kate Carlisle, designed a custom deck of cards for one of Carlisle’s books. Each face card held a different murder weapon. It was used for a giveaway for members of Carlisle’s mailing list. In addition, Looney created a video revealing each day’s random winner. It was so popular that “she had a lot of readers asking if they could buy the cards,” Looney said. “I offer a wide variety of services that come down to this: helping authors get more organized and feel less stressed,” said Mel Jolly, who has assisted multiple New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors. “The clients who utilize my services best keep me in the loop for everything involving their business. When it comes to things that need to get done (website updates, blog interviews, social media posts, newsletters, launch plans, ad booking, etc.), I either do the thing or I make sure the thing gets done.” Another assistant, Amanda West Kassis, who also works as an editor, focuses on publishing weekly newsletters and growing subscribers. “I am in the publishing industry, which gives me unique skills and knowledge,” she said. She will help an author post on social media, write newsletters, and do other marketing. Is it worth hiring a VA? You may have written a wonderful book, but it won’t go anywhere without marketing. And marketing may take away time spent writing the next book, which is crucial in a series. Most virtual assistants said this is the beauty of having help—the author can concentrate on the writing. Having a virtual assistant, said Looney, “isn’t going to magically make you a bestseller. In my opinion, authors should not hire a VA until they’ve reached a stage in their career when it makes financial sense, and that’s a decision each author must make for herself. When you’ve reached the level of success that leaves you too busy to have a life, consider hiring a VA.” Sarah Merchant, who specializes in social media and website/blog management, said that what may take someone else hours to do might take her minutes. “Is it worth it to you to struggle through those hours simply because you think it will save you money? Isn’t your time worth more than that?” she said. “I have a lot of respect for authors, and love putting my skills to work for them, so they can concentrate on their writing.” She can’t say how much her work has helped with sales, but pointed to a recent Facebook promotion she did for an author. Her work resulted in an immediate increase in clicks. Looney also said it’s hard to pinpoint whether her work has boosted book sales. “The frustrating thing about marketing is that you will rarely be able to draw a straight line from a specific promotion to specific sales,” she said. “I will say that I don’t take any credit for my clients’ success. That always, always, always comes back to the book. They write books that readers love. My work is not responsible for their success; rather, I help them manage that success.” An author first needs to consider the budget and her priorities, said Jolly. Most of her authors only need her for five or so hours per month. “We all wish we could outsource SO MANY THINGS, but the reality is that we have to start small and outsource just one or two things at first,” Jolly said. “That’s best for a small budget and for building trust. “Quickly, let’s talk quickly about math. Let’s say an author can afford to hire an assistant for 10 hours/month. That’s 120 hours per year. How many more words can that author produce with an additional 120 hours per year? Let’s estimate low and say that’s one additional novella per year. “If the author is paying the assistant a rate of $40/hour, that’s $4,800 for the year. How much can the author make by self-publishing that novella? Or selling it traditionally? At this point, there are too many variables for me to continue with the math, but do you see where I’m going with this?” Author’s experience One author, Susan Mallery, has worked with Looney for nine years and considers her indispensable. As an example, she mentions her latest book, Secrets of the Tulip Sisters. Looney created the content for TulipSisters.com, sent 200 copies of the book to a “Review Crew, created a sign-up form for mailing list members to receive bookmarks, then sent out the bookmarks to 30,000 fans (Looney also designed the bookmarks). In addition, she created quote-of-the-day shareables with quotes from the book, created videos and graphics to use in Facebook ads, and executed the Facebook campaigns. During all this, she coordinated with Harlequin’s PR and digital marketing departments on the book promotion. Jack Daniel’s Lynchburg General Store: San Francisco & Austin
Tumblr media
We had the amazing opportunity to accompany our client, Mirrorball Agency, on two stops of their Jack Daniel’s Lynchburg General Store tour. This traveling pop up general store is to celebrate the Lynchburg Distillery and it’s 151 years of making the top selling American whiskey in the world. The first pop-up location we got to work on was none other than the Golden City, San Francisco. We took over The HERE Collective at 930 Alabama St. from July 16-22, turning a collaborative work space/ event space into the amazing Jack Daniel’s General Store reminiscent of its hometown, Lynchburg, Tennessee. Earlier this month we concluded our time in Austin, Texas at 800 Congress Avenue which took place from October 8-14.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The store ran for a total of 7 days offering a selection of unique goods and services, so here’s a recap for you. First of all, if you came at the right time you could catch a set by the house band, The Bobby Hawk Band. He’s one amazing fiddle player!
Tumblr media
Now the visit starts with grabbing a glass of lemonade or sweet tea and perusing the delicious pastries at Miss Mary Bobo’s Bakery.
Tumblr media
While digesting your Southern treats, stop by the Jack & Friends booth, where craftsmen demos such as candle making and leather embossing are hosted by local makers. The local partner changed every day so there was a craft for everyone to enjoy. The best part is, you got to create something you could take home with you.
Tumblr media
Speaking of craftsmen, you could meet a real Jack Daniel’s Barrel Man at Jack’s Workshop and see how the art of barrel making is done. If you wanted your very own custom barrel, you could do that too!
Tumblr media
Check in at the Lynchburg Travel Agency desk to book a virtual tour through the nation’s oldest distillery, Lynchburg Distillery. If you’ve never done VR before, this is a fully captivating sensory experience. While in the store you also get the chance to see the actual safe Jack Daniel famously kicked, leading to his death in 1911.
Tumblr media
Looking for a spruce up? Gentleman Jack Barber Shop offers $5 proper hair/beard trims and styling. That’s a deal that couldn’t be passed up!
Tumblr media
Once you’re all done up at the Barber Shop, head on over to the Music Photo Booth for some memorable photos. Dress up like the rock star you’ve always wanted to be and share on your social media for all your friends to see. Check out hashtag #jdgeneralstore to see some of the awesome pictures that were taken.
Tumblr media
At the center of all the action is the Charcoal Mellowing Station, offering a sensory experience taking you through the history and process of making Jack Daniel’s whiskey. Daytime customers were able to sign up for the Private Tasting from 6-7 pm each evening, where they got to taste test Old No. 7, Gentleman Jack, Single Barrel select, and Barrel Aged Rye.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course visitors couldn’t leave without purchasing some unique Jack Daniel’s merch and whiskey related goods.
Tumblr media
It was a pleasure working on this amazing project! We focused on the staging and lighting aspects of the job. Shout out to Nomad Sound for the audio and Breakthrough Productions for their beautiful fabrication work. As of right now Austin was the last stop on the calendar, but who knows... the Jack Daniel’s Lynchburg General Store might be coming to a town near you!

Begin in Business for a year
This year has been a wild whirlwind of learning experiences and adventure. Lets start at the beginning. Was in a 4 year relationship from 22-26 with a man that not only spoiled me with a higher quality of life, but travel. I was hooked with the world that was surrounding me, so I stayed in this what seemed like an amazing situation, which soon turned into a nightmare. That’s not where I’d like to start our story, but yet the prelude to my future endeavors and now current passions. Once this toxic relationship was finally extinguished I found myself back at my mother house working for her company, with no will to live on. Each day seemed so meaningless. Something had to change and I needed to find a new level of inner strength that I did not know I had at the time. My Mother has been in business for over 42+ years and has raised more than one successful company. She turned to me one day and asked if I wanted to act on what I had been thinking about since before going into the epic 4 year relationship. She asked “are you ready to go into business for yourself? That was the day Deborah Watts, CEO of True Vines, Inc became my rock and mentor in business. Started by going to the DMV to see if the name picked over 5-6 ago was available for purchase, and behold Populated Likes was born! This was a blessing and direct confirmation from the Lord that I need to do this, because not only was the name free and clear to purchase my DBA, but the domain name was also available. When Populated Likes first launched the focus was only on social media. The only client was True Vines, Inc, which is still one of our best clients to date!
My savings were depleting so I sold the meaningless engagement ring that was given to me to keep the business afloat, then the end of February 2016 came around right after a family vacation in Colorado with beautiful family member “bonus” aunt Stacie! Stacie works for HP and had taken an interest in what I had going on with Populated Likes. She wanted to help and see my success, so offered to try & make a connection with a colleague. This colleague worked for an agency based out of Dallas; the Infinite Agency, which is a young group of advertising professionals and influencers. The Infinite Agency was looking for brand ambassadors to travel on the Bud Light Texas tour, and aunt Stacie’s colleague thought I’d be a perfect candidate. Reluctantly I applied for the position and being a bit nervous about the whole thing asked Jordan to apply with me; we were both selected! A week later Jordan and I were packing our bags to head to Dallas, Texas. Meeting the team for the first time was extremely exciting, intimidating and a little overwhelming.
Mind you while I was in the 4 year relationship, which really had ended about 2-3 months prior; I’d lost most of my friendship for numerous reasons. Had no clue becoming a brand ambassador was going to jump start my heart and stimulate the inner entrepreneur, which would finally bring down all the walls put up to protect myself. The Texas tour was a huge success and blast! Made a whole new group of friends working along side each other traveling on the Bud Light tourbus around Texas engaging with consumers. Johnathan, with the Infinite Agency took interest in my performance, and will to attempt to run Populated Likes, while on the road. Once the Texas tour was completed a conversation was had between the two of us, which in turn added the brand ambassador program to my little social media operation. This was a huge confidence booster for me which has carried Populated Likes its current state. Jonathan asked if Populated Likes would help him the Infinite Agency to build a database of brand ambassadors. Soon I found myself training, scheduling and scouring BAs in Dallas, Houston, & surrounding areas. I am so grateful for the relationship I have built with the Infinite Agency team! Now Populated Likes, is progressively becoming nationwide and we’d worked with high profile clientele such as Anheuser Busch, Fox Sports & Non profits through collaborations with our preferred valued clients (marketing, adversing, & promotional agencies). Even had the opportunity to work, facilitate & staff for Super Bowl 51 here in Houston, TX.
To fast forward to present date now Populated Likes has been in business for over a year and focusing on up coming SXSW in Austin, Texas.
Stay tuned for from here on out the adventures will be documented! Soon tails and intrigues from Austin during our experience March 8-18th for SXSW.
