"[You are] the only person that knows the real me."
{ time to feed into the HoloNano delusion-- }
A giggle came from LYLA, her eyes focused on Bridge’s face, “I’m sure they are others who know you,” a soft smile was on her lips as she hovered fondly in front of Bridge, “But I’m glad I get to be the one who knows the real you.”
She materialized next to Bridge’s cheek, her entire body only stretching from Bridge’s chin to the top of her eyes, and placed a kiss on the curve of her cheekbone. LYLA’s frame flickered pink, and an endearing look in her eyes.

Flash Fiction Friday #9 (Detroit: Become Human)
Word: No word.
Pairing: Hank & Kara, Hank x Kara (if you squint)
Warnings: Domestic/child abuse mention, drug abuse mention, kind of an AU (Kara as Hank's partner instead of Connor)
Kara was not a police officer. She wasn’t even meant to be working in a police station. But the rise of red ice had caused a rise in domestic abuse and child abuse. Kara was built for managing households, taking care of children, and navigating dangerous adults. When more and more children were brought in with signs of abuse, or were being temporarily held in custody while their parents were arrested for drugs, the police struggled to figure out how to deal with the kids. Until some genius noticed how many of these houses had androids – maids and butlers and cooks and nannies. And they decided that the best person to take care of these kids were the ones who were built to take care of them.
So Kara was recruited to sit in at the police station to take care of five children that had been brought in alongside their parents. They’d all been in one house – the house Kara lived and worked in – playing upstairs while their parents dealt downstairs. Police arrived not long after, and everyone was taken away in cruisers.
“The hell is this?”
The gruff voice belonged to one of the officers. Kara learned his name was Hank. He was an older man with unkempt graying hair, and he wore shirts with strange designs. Kara had been programmed to catch patterns in human appearance and behavior to avoid danger and preserve her ward’s life. All of her pattern recognition was telling her that Hank Anderson was a red ice user. His disheveled appearance, ugly clothes, bad attitude, and general unpleasantness were the same as so many other users and dealers. It was shocking that he was a police officer.
“Kids,” said Fowler. “Brought them in with their parents.”
“Don’t tell me the kids are dealing, too.”
“Not yet. Parents were doing a deal with the kids in the house. Took all of them with us to make sure they’re all okay. Social service BS and all that.”
Hank grunted and said, “Who’s that?”
“Some ‘droid. Came in with the kids.”
“For what?”
“Child advocate. I don’t know. But she’s a nanny or something, so she can take care of the kids while we book the parents.”
Hank gave her a disapproving look. “Damn creepy making them look so human.”
“Must make the kids feel better.” Fowler clapped a hand on Hank’s shoulder and gave a tense smile. “And the cops.”
“What do you mean?”
“Somebody’s gotta interview all these kids about what happened.”
“Why are you telling me? Tell some social worker, or Youth Services.”
“They’re all tired up with a bigger bust down south.”
“So?”
“So …” Fowler gestured to a room currently filled with small chairs and a handful of toys. “Best get started.”
“What?”
“You’ve all we got.”
“I’m not sitting in with kids–”
“That’s the great thing about being your boss. I can make you do anything. And you’re sitting in with these kids.”
“You want to interview these kids, right? Not traumatize them further? Reed would be better than me. He may be stupid and ugly, but he’s not scary.”
“Sorry, Anderson. Took a poll and everyone agreed you’re the best candidate.”
“The hell they come up with that?” Hank growled.
“Dunno. Guess everyone felt you have a sort of grandpa quality about you.” Fowler fought a smirk.
Hank muttered not-so-quietly a curse that Kara had never heard, even during her time around red ice users. Hank then turned his cold blue eyes on her and, for a brief moment, Kara felt something. She didn’t think it was fear, because she had seen fear in children, and even adults, and that wasn’t right.
Without even knowing, her LED turned yellow as she processed the information and tried to fit it into what she already understood about the world.
“What’s she doing?” Hank barked, glowering at Kara.
“Looking at you,” said Fowler.
“I know that,” he gritted his teeth. “But why is she staring?”
“Dunno. Maybe she likes you.”
“Could be she’s trying to figure out if he’s under arrest or not,” came Gavin Reed’s smug voice. “He looks just like the homeless dealer we brought in.”
Hank flipped him off and Reed laughed. Grumbling to himself, Hank approached Kara and stared down at her. She was sitting in a chair and was nearly miniscule compared to him.
“Well?” he grunted. “You gonna get up and do something or do you gotta charge or something?”
Kara blinked up at him, then slowly stood. She held out a slender, pale hand and smiled at Hank.
“Hello,” she said. “I’m Kara. I was–”
“Made by CyberLife, yeah, yeah. Let’s get this over with.” Hank turned and sulked toward the interview room, which now had one child in it.
Kara watched him closely as he gripped the door handle tightly and cursed having to work with kids. Then he turned and looked at her, brow knitted in annoyed uncertainty.
“Maybe you should go first,” he said. “You know … You might make the kid feel more comfortable.”
Kara smiled brightly at Hank and said, “Of course. I’d be happy to.”
His scowl faltered and he opened the door. Kara stepped into the room. The child – a little boy – lifted his head from the table and leaped to his feet.
“Kara!” He bolted into her arms and held her tight.
Kara glanced at Hank as he huffed, loudly, whispering, “Damn,” under his breath. But it wasn’t annoyance on his face. It was a different expression. Something softer. Something reverent.
He was surprised.
Kara smiled and guided the boy to the table. “This is Lieutenant Hank Anderson,” she said, taking a seat beside the boy. “He’s going to ask you a few questions, okay? Just tell him the truth.”
The boy nodded and looked at Hank. Kara followed his gaze. His expression had changed again. No longer surprised.
He was impressed.

I blame @templeofvengeance and @spiderman2-99 for encouraging this. /lh /j
Helpful to get the creative juices flowing a little though.
I am so 100% creating a page break because this is technically violating my own rules. READER BEWARE! Read at your discretion! Subtle mentions of sexual themes and anatomy--in a medical tense, though.
Pretend the typos aren't there I wrote this at the crack of dawn on my side of the pond.
> The Bodily Anatomy and Properties of the H.A.S.S.
Due to the nature of Bridge's construction--being made entirely out of millions of nanomachines--she doesn't necessarily have to take on the appearance she usually does, though she does for the sake of maintaining a sense of identity.
Therefore, she can mimick the apprarance of others or create her own if she so chooses.
By these means, gender is a mere construct to Bridge, as she can replicate the physical appearance of the genetalia of either gender.
Of course, they are non-functional besides their physical properties: pregnancy, for example, is impossible as she has no way of producing viable ovules to inseminate. Insemination is impossible as well.
Besides this, either appendage appears to function as they should.
She is capable of recieving touch input through these appendages and thus can--hypothetically--engage in intercourse practically. She has not done so in over a thousand years, and (likely) never will.
At any given time, until necessary, these appendages do not exist as there is no practical need for them. Therefore, despite appearances, Bridge typically walks around sexless (literally and physically). When needed, she simply forms the body part as soon as its visible.
It is important to note that Bridge will still imitate the appearance of breasts, as she was created seeing herself as mostly feminine-leaning, though she does not truly retain an attachment to this gender asides from adhering to societal norms, as-is part of her functions. There may be some sentimental attachment as well, but that is ambiguous at best.
While on the subject, it is important to note that while Bridge can mimick the appearance of other organs and thei placements, they are otherwise useless and serve no purpose. This does not exclude blood--makes for a gory visual if she were to be cut open and needed to pretend to be human. Though, realisically, it would just be coolant that spills out.
ON THAT NOTE; Bridge can bleed, and if she looses enough coolant, she will very likely overheat and shut down.
The only way to actually kill her would be to fully corrupt her programming. Magnetization is effective at doing so and would render her completely useless--hardware and software included.
She can lose or break off portions of her body mass. If this portion of mass is lost, she can simply retireve metal from a viable source to recreate it atom-for-atom, re-building the nanomachines from scratch with the remaining units in her body. This makes self-servicing relatively simple.
That being said, if she loses too much of her mass, it will become considerably difficult to re-build herself. She will need assistance at that point as she will likely not have adequate energy reserves to carry out the process.

Phone: Two. Apps.
#meg is rambling#it's been like this for months i don't know what this mystery app is-!!!!#I'm beginning to assume it might be chrome because i disabled it so i didn't have a default browser#i use firefox for some stuff (i.e. fanfics tumblr. basically anything fun and not to do with serious shit) and chrome beta for the rest#so might have to enable it for the sake of seeing if that's the mystery app :/#one of the few things i hate about android is it forcing you to have a default browser with the more recent versions

PLAYING: Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis Beta
I've been dying for this game to release. It was exciting to wake up this weekend and find a new game downloaded onto my phone. While I couldn't wait to play this, it's not quite what I was expecting. But I've still gleefully played it for hours.
First off, yes: it captures the Final Fantasy VII vibe perfectly. The menu aesthetics feel like FFVII. The music is now orchestrated by definitely features familiar melodies and themes. And they're using the Chibi characters in the dungeons and big characters in the battles, just like classic FFVII.
BUT this is very much a mobile game. Instead of one continuous experience through the story, the game is broken up into sub-chapters. The first chapter is the entire opening bombing mission up until the explosion: perfect. But then several sub-chapters are really short conversations. There's about 3-4 sub-chapters taking place inside 7th Heaven, and each is a conversation with a different character. I don't know why they couldn't just have a sub-chapter be you walking around talking to all the characters. But nope, you have finish one 60 second conversation, load the mission select screen, pick the next 60 second conversation, load the same area you just were, wait 60 seconds of barely interesting conversation, then back to the mission select.
Not particularly fun.
Also, you have all the mobile things: gacha item collection, overly complicated materials to upgrade items, and unbalanced gameplay to encourage purchases over grinding. It's not terrible, but I find myself spending a lot of time accepting rewards (you're rewarded for everything you do--I think there's rewards for accepting rewards), figuring out which of my two millions weapons to use, upgrading them, buying material x to convert to material y so I can upgrade more. It's a lot of management just so I can watch a 30 second conversation and fight two monsters.
Beyond story missions, there's challenge dungeons and fights. You need to get a party that's strong enough (lots of weapon upgrading). But it provides more rewards and helps grind your character levels in a more engaging way than running in circles waiting for random battles to start.
There's also a multiplayer mode. I "unlocked it" but it doesn't seem to be working for Beta. Or I'm missing something.
So to the story gameplay:
The bombing mission felt very 1:1 of the original except with new camera angles for certain sections. The opening video when Avalanche attacked the guards off the train matched some of the cinematic views of Remake. The game skipped a few screens, like the elevator. I'm worried they're cutting a lot of content, but maybe they're keeping it shorter for the Beta?
After the bombing mission, the game skipped around more. One scene was just Cloud meeting Aerith. Then back to the main menu. Then the next scene was Cloud being surrounded by Shinra on the street. Then suddenly we're in 7th Heaven. They left out the trapped group blowing their way out the rubble, wandering the streets in the aftermath, and all the train conversations. I worry this won't be in the final game--but maybe they're just moving things along for the Beta? The FF7 section ends once Cloud meets Aerith in the church and they're confronted by Reno. No hint as to whether the barrel mini-game will be included.
Reaching this point opens the Crisis Core section. While I love Crisis Core, having just played the opening bombing mission, the opening training mission for Zack is a little boring. It's also very short. I struggled with the difficulty here. It became necessary to work on upgrades for Zack before I could easily when the battles. Then the story moves on to a series of less than exciting conversations and training battles. I don't remember if the original game was this slow to progress, but I didn't particularly enjoy the mobile version of this experience.
You then attack Wutai and feature some of the important conversations about dumbapples. While Ever Crisis is trying to create a consistent experience across all the storylines, this mission was less exciting with the overhead view and random battles. The section ends when you meet Sephiroth and realize there's Genesis clones.
The next section is the First Soldier, which I guess is a more story-driven version of the battle royale game that came out a while back. That game was fun, but I didn't like the battle royale aspect. I would have enjoyed teaming up with 1-3 others and battling hoards of enemies instead. RIP. I haven't started this yet, so not sure what to expect.
The combat is turned-based with active time battle qualities. Thankfully, the game handles some of the simpler aspects of combat, like attacking. There's an MP meter (at least that's what I'm calling it) that fills up over time. Each character has a series of skills and spells they can use, but they require x-bars of mana to use. So a basic fire spell might require 3 bars, while a healing spell requires 5. Once you've got 3 bars you can cast fire--but now you're 5 away from healing. So You have to judge whether to sacrifice attacking fast in order to heal characters. Luckily these skills and spells cast immediately and don't seem to interrupt your characters occasional attack.
In a way, you just control one character at a time. You tap the icon of the character you want to control and the camera moves behind them. They'll continue to attack on their own, but you choose the skills/spells to use and when. The other characters in your party when cast spells and choose who to attack on their own. But you can also switch between them if you'd like.
...well...maybe that's not accurate. There's three settings for combat: manual, semi, and auto. Full auto lets you sit back and watch your characters make decent decisions. You still have to activate limit breaks manually. I think Semi is when you control your character and the others make good decisions, then manual means it's all on you (except for attacking). There's some quirks to the combat that make it interactive and engaging, but once you've boosted your weapons to insanity, it doesn't take much to win most battles.
I wasn't sure how they were going to "mobilize" FF7 and company, but I had hoped it was going to be a more direct remake of the original. I was not expecting this disjointed experience. Still, I'm having a lot of fun and I look forward to the real game finally releasing (at which point I've been told I'll start back at 0).

HAII UM UR COOL AND UM UM HERE MERRY CHRISTMAS HERE-
{hands a tiny squirrel} i.. um... took it from.. outside!!!
The woman just. Stared at this small, clearly confused animal in Sunny's hands. It couldn't have been older than 6 weeks. Bridge was hard-pressed to want to keep the animal considering she was about to set off on a voyage into a whole other dimension in about three hours, and not to mention there were very clear rules set about keeping wild animals in any of the dorms of Spider H.Q.--much less anywhere else in the facility--after a certain... Incident.
"... I am..."
Bit she can't deny the younger spider, that would be rude considering the gesture. Was it an odd present to give? Certainly. But that likely wouldn't offend Sunny any less. Outstretched hands move in to retireve the little mammal from his, the creature sniffing at the synthetic skin with wide-eyed curiosity.
"... Grateful for this gift. Thank you."
She must seem quite trustworthy to be able to handle animals like this if other agents keep giving them to her at random.
