#atlanta I pulled out of my hotel parking lot on the other end of Peachtree, as tragedy unfolded about five miles down that very street. I navigated around the city on multiple congested highways as law enforcement screamed past with lights and sirens. I cleared the city and pulled off for gas and a coffee and heard the news update from a local Atlanta DJ. This morning, I rededicate myself to talking to everyone. I walked Peachtree for the past three days, rather than drive, and I said “Hello,” and “Good morning,” and “How are y’all today.” I asked the barista her name (no name tag), so I could thank her, personally. Met the valet at the entry door who helped me pick up my spilled papers. Shared with a check-in clerk the live jazz I found the night before. @lewishamilton in his @masterclass talks about “spreading positivity.” This is necessary. Vital. Critical. My little student gave me a flower... She saw me as I came in and as I was saying hello to all of the kids with our new special "elbows bumps and kicks" when it was her time to greet me, she gave me this little lovely flower and said "A flower to you, Teacher!" I couldn't believe how much of her simple gesture would have such a powerful effect on me and bring me tears of joy. The happiest tears I've shed in a while. How sweet of her to care so much and even not being able to go for a hug, she actually made me feel hugged. We are all going through hard times these days. People around us are really dying... neighbors, acquaintances, friends, co-workers, family members and so on have been taken from us by this "terrible flu" ... some have died 😢 and some have died emotionally... BUT here's the message: Be yourself like unto this little girl. With the power to make someone else feel happy to the point of crying with the sweetest simple lovely gesture of showing you care for the ones you love. Never despise humble beginnings. A friend dropped off a fan after reading our call for help, and I brought them home because office refurbishment still being finalized. 2013. six years ago Ventura County released me on a 20k cash bond - my dad navigated me & my jail cell ... after obtaining a home equity loan to pay that cash bond. He hugged me at the gate, handed me his fleece to wrap my under dressed self in while I insisted he carry me home on the wings of plausible but untrue stories & as soon as I pushed him on his way with an authoritative goodbye I desperately rang my dealer & later threw up with anxiety & memories as my shaking hands attempted to not spill the shot or blow the vein. maybe two weeks later I carried my fearful self-centered addict self north to my childhood home kicked & began attempting to kick with suboxone. my first night I took it too soon & found myself in a fit of cold sweats throwing up then scampering scurrying scrambling over 100MPH racing to swoop my pal my best gal no-matter-what using buddy 40mi away & her $40 to drive another 20mi back in the opposite direction to meet some fella at a work site on his break. fuck. just fuck. later I tried again on a road trip with my parents - the absolute most un-ideal time to kick, especially if yr a fucking liar & yr parents dont know how bad it *really* is. no words for how grateful I am that this isnt my reality today.
