Gorgeous, sensual shapes. #Repost @micheleoberdieck with @get_repost ・・・ Icehouse exhibition in Holland Park, on until July 14th, 10-6pm. Blown glass vessels, and works on paper. My work always starts with a drawing on paper often using coloured inks and dyes inspired by natural imagery. My glass vessels evolve from this starting point. In this exhibition I’ve curated it in a way that each 2d piece is enhanced by a 3D glass form, and vice-versa. The Haas Brothers “Today we are very comfortable with the way we express ourselves and we do less editing from a creative standpoint and more editing just from having so much experience. The creatures used to only be furry and weren’t allowed to have a face, but now we’re showing creatures that have faces and we didn’t do that lightly. We reached a point where we felt we could put a face on it. We are comfortable with our identity now, so the pieces have more of an identity.” - Simon Haas, ‘The Haas Brothers’. American born (1984) twin brothers Simon and Nikolai Haas run their eponymous furniture design and fabrication studio out of Los Angeles, from which they create everything from set design to wearable art, masks for Lady Gaga to gold-leafed furniture for ‘Louis Vuitton’ stores. Nikolai apprenticed as a master carver and Simon studied blacksmithing at the ‘Rhode Island School of Design’ — and together their pieces, while sleek, still retain some traces of artisanal handiwork.
