Zimoun : Compilation Video 3.7 (2017) by Zimoun A video compilation of Zimoun’s work, all playing with the same idea of repetition and also possibly his love for using motors and basic materials. Every installation seems to be a masterpiece on its own, and Zimoun himself (or maybe the motors) can be compared to that of a musical composer. Aside from the soothing sounds that his work produces, noticing the subtle movements also adds on to the user’s experience, possibly similar or mimicking a similar experience to that of watching the waves crash on beaches, or the trees rustling in the wind.

"Reporters With Borders - installation version" (2008) by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer"Reporters With Borders - installation version," 2008 HD projectors, sensors, computer, custom software dimensions variable also available as shadow box Installation view at Haunch of Venison, London, UK. A high resolution interactive display that simultaneously shows 875 video clips of news anchors taken from TV broadcasts in the United States and Mexico. As the viewer stands in front of the piece his or her silhouette is shown on the display and within it all reporters begin to talk (this is the first shadow box to have sound). Every 3 minutes the piece switches the videoclips --from a database of 1600--and classifies them along gender, race and country, so that for instance on the left there are only American reporters and on the right only Mexicans. The Shadow Box series of works are interactive displays with a built-in computerized tracking system. Derived from Lozano-Hemmer’s interest in portraiture, surveillance and phantasmagoria, they are autonomous artworks but often are used as “platforms” or “digital sketches” for larger installations or environments. Each box measures 104 x 80 x 13 cm and is made of steel and black anodized aluminum. The display itself is 30 inches in diagonal and shows 2560x1600 pixels --about 2 to 3 times more resolution than a typical plasma screen. Two processor computers are embedded in the system, and these are programmed to start up automatically and operate without maintenance. A high-resolution digital camera with a pinhole lens is hidden just above the display and detects the presence of viewers. This work exists both as a Shadow Box as well as an installation with projectors.

"Klangfarben" series (2006-2007) by Manfred Mohr The "Klangfarben" series explores high-chroma representations of a calculated geometric space against a black field. "Klangfarben" is a body of paintings and animations based on the 11-dimensional hypercube and uses diagonal paths as a compositional building block. Diagonal paths are all the combinatorial possibilities of connecting two opposite points through a hypercube network, passing through each dimension once. The reference to "klangfarben" refers to a composition technique of playing one musical note and constantly changing the instrument playing that note.

"97 polysiloxane hoses 3.0mm, compressed air" (2010) by Zimoun "97 polysiloxane hoses 3.0mm, compressed air", 2010 polisiloxane, compressor, pneumatic system, wooden stand with micro controller table: 6.6 x 6.6 x 3.3' / 200 x 200 x 100 cm air tank: 4.9 x 4.9 x 3.1' / 150 x 150 x 95 cm Installation view: Schichtwechsel / Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein. Curated by Arno Oehri. Using simple and functional components, Zimoun (b. 1977, Switzerland) builds architecturally-minded platforms of sound. Exploring mechanical rhythm and flow in prepared systems, his installations incorporate commonplace industrial objects. In an obsessive display of simple and functional materials, these works articulate a tension between the orderly patterns of Modernism and the chaotic forces of life. Carrying an emotional depth, the acoustic hum of natural phenomena in Zimoun’s minimalist constructions effortlessly reverberates.
