So, I've read through your byka tag multiple times, and I don't recall you ever receiving an ask like this, but if you have, feel free to ignore me lol. I was just wondering whether you had a head canon for what Jungkook's first words were? I was just thinking about it the other day, and now I'm itching to know what you think they would be! :)
Okay, I realize you asked this question 800 years ago, but I have actually been thinking of this ask since you sent it in, and I just don’t know what I think. Because I don’t think Seokjin and Namjoon would have prompted him to say “Dada” or “Daddy” or anything because they didn’t know if they’d get to keep him.
So I think probably Jungkook’s first word was “no.”
And I also think he probably said no all of the time without ever knowing what it means? Like, eh-hem:
Jungkook wriggled in his high chair, his breathing heavy and his body straining as he reached down towards the kitchen table. He was miles away, but it was obvious what he wanted. At first, Jungkook had been occupied by the corn kernels and beans Seokjin had put in front of him for lunch, but it was clear he was hungry for something else.
“Jungkook,” Seokjin said. “Do you want some of Jimin’s mac and cheese?”
“No,” Jungkook said, his fingers curling and uncurling desperately. “No. No, no, no.”
“I’ll help!” Jimin said and stood up on shaky feet. “Here!” Jimin bounced up on his tiptoes. He held his spoon out to Jungkook with a few piece of cold macaroni on the end. Jungkook grabbed each noodle one at a time, almost missing his mouth as he tried to eat it piece by piece. Jungkook kicked his feet.
Seokjin smiled at him from across the table. “Oh, Jungkook, does that taste nice?”
“No.”
“Can you say thank you to Jimin?”
At the sound of Jimin’s name, Jungkook’s eyes widened. He stared at Seokjin. “No.”
“Hey, I was being nice!” Jimin complained.
“No.”
“You were being nice,” Seokjin assured the three-year-old, holding his arms out for Jimin to toddle into. He pulled Jimin into his lap. “Jungkook is just silly.”
“No!” Jungkook yelled.
“No!” Jimin yelled back. Seokjin winced at the loud sound directly in his ear.
Jungkook looked startled. He kicked his feet in his high chair. “...No,” he said, but this time much more quiet and much more concerned. Seokjin couldn’t help but laugh at the pinched expression on his little face. He was so confused and cute.
“I think we need to try to teach Jungkook a few more words, huh?” Seokjin asked Jimin. “He’s too expressive for just ‘no’.”
“What’s ‘spressive?” Jimin asked.
“It means he shows all his feelings on his face,” Seokjin answered.
“Oh.” Jimin twisted in Seokjin’s hold. “That’s like Jungkookie. He makes lots of faces. But he always says the same thing!”
I can’t really be bothered to write any more of this, but you get the idea.

Sims 3 Speed Build
I talked about a lot of things. I rambled...maybe too much lol.
I like uncensored thoughts, but sometimes it comes our lost in translation...
Please read the description I clarified a few things. Sometimes I say things and it does not come out how I imagined it in my head hence the “lost in translation” part.
This was inspired by the Create a Home series @thecheekybrunette wrote. I suggest you read everything she writes because they’re gold. I spazz every time I get a notification that she published a story. I reread and reread like I don’t have a life... because I don’t lol.
So I tried to recreate what I envisioned what the house in the story looked like..without cc because well my game and I don’t get along.
Much love to everyone. Thank you for watching ^^

BKYA is one of my favourite fics in the fandom and Jungkook is my favourite character, so can you do the DVD commentary for the passage starting with: “We’re at Dr. Kroger’s office.” and ending with "Jungkook hadn’t realized there were people who could be as patient and calm as Seokjin." Thank you!!
Ah, I am so flattered to be one of your favorites! You are so sweet and cute! I would love to DVD comment for this scene!
For your reference:
“We’re at Dr. Kroger’s office.”
“No.”
“Yes,” Seokjin answered, and Jungkook would be stupid to miss the red rimming around his dad’s eyes. However, he was too angry to care about how Seokjin was feeling right now. All Jungkook cared about was how angry he was and how much he desperately didn’t want to go to this doctor’s appointment.
“No,” he repeated, staring up at the building with something a lot like terror building up in his chest. “No, no, no, no, no.”
“Oh, sweetheart,” Seokjin sighed. He sounded exhausted. “I know you’re scared, but I promise, this will be good for you.”
“Then maybe you should go see Dr. Kroger because you sound insane,” he spat, the words burning through him like acid. He felt hot. Like red hot. Like he was two seconds from exploding. “I’m not getting out of the car.”
“You’re getting out of the car, Jungkook.”
“No, I’m not.”
“Jungkook, as your father, I’m telling you that you are going to get out of the car, go into Dr. Kroger’s office, and let him help you calm down.”
Jungkook couldn’t even breathe, he was so angry. He held his breath for a moment -cheeks blown up and face growing red- until he couldn’t hold it anymore and all he could do was shout. “My father? My father? How can you call yourself that, when I literally don’t want anything to do with you?!” he screamed.
Seokjin didn’t respond.
He didn’t even look at him. Instead he got out of the car, his arms wrapped around himself as he walked into one of the suites. Jungkook watched him leave.
He stayed sat in the car.
Maybe Jin was right; maybe he did need to calm down. But he definitely didn’t need to get out of the car and talk to some stranger for an hour about his mom, so he didn’t dare move. He didn’t even unhook his seatbelt.
A few minutes later, a man walked out of the same building Seokjin went into. Jungkook thought he might have been a patient until he came over and knocked on his window. The man waved at him through the glass, and Jungkook felt like throwing up. He cracked the door open.
“Hello, you must be Jungkook!”
“So?” he asked.
“I’m Dr. Kroger,” the man said, holding his hand out to shake. “Do you want to come out of the car and shake my hand?”
Jungkook stared at his hand and suddenly was conscious of the tears streaming down his cheeks. He pushed them away with the heels of his palms. “No,” he muttered down at the ground, unable to make eye contact. He really did feel like throwing up. He really and honestly felt like throwing up all over the ground; he was so overwhelmed.
“Okay,” Dr. Kroger said easily. Jungkook hadn’t realized there were people who could be as patient and calm as Seokjin.
“We’re at Dr. Kroger’s office.”I left this without any attribution, but I picture Seokjin’s voice as like “calm neutrality.” Like he’s forcing himself to sound relaxed and neutral, which I think is something he learned with Yoongi.
“No.”Jungkook is like... I don’t know, young? It’s like he thinks if he throws a big enough fit, he won’t have to go. And to be fair, I think Seokjin has caved when Jungkook has thrown fits in the past. But he’s not throwing a fit just to be ornery, he’s really just scared, you feel? This also doesn’t have an attribution, but I think he’d sound extremely angry with an undercurrent of fear.
However, he was too angry to care about how Seokjin was feeling right now. All Jungkook cared about was how angry he was and how much he desperately didn’t want to go to this doctor’s appointment. This is actually very truthful. Jungkook is admittedly a little bit self-centered at this moment in time, which is like... okay. He’s really young, and he’s still learning to be empathetic, and he really is super scared. So it’s hard to think outside of himself and see how his behavior is affecting Seokjin. It’s like if you’re drowning, and you kick the lifeguard in the shin? He’s kicking and screaming and terrified; he’s so scared, he can’t even focus on the person saving him.
“Then maybe you should go see Dr. Kroger because you sound insane,” he spat, the words burning through him like acid. As scared as Jungkook is, he does not want Seokjin to call him out on it, and it embarrasses him to hear it out loud.
He felt hot. Like red hot. Like he was two seconds from exploding. Actually, the hardest part of this scene was figuring out how to write someone who is irrationally angry? I’m not even sure I did a good job of it, it was my first time trying to portray this particular emotion. I write a lot of kind of... extreme/intense scenes in my other works, but I think the anger there tinges sad and righteous, you feel? And here it just... spirals out of control.
“You’re getting out of the car, Jungkook.”So the irony of this scene is that Seokjin’s patience wears out here. Like he’s tired of Jungkook treating him this way, but later, Jungkook still considers him one of the most patient people he knows.
“My father? My father? How can you call yourself that, when I literally don’t want anything to do with you?!” he screamed.Seokjin was just really firm with Jungkook? And I think he realizes that this is real, that this is going to happen, and I think it freaked him out. So that’s why he lashes out here. And usually when Jungkook yells like this, Seokjin kind of fights back? But this time it’s different, this time Seokjin just leaves, and I think Jungkook feels anxious about it, but he’s too stubborn to like... show himself and admit his fears.
Maybe Jin was right; maybe he did need to calm down. But he definitely didn’t need to get out of the car and talk to some stranger for an hour about his mom, so he didn’t dare move. He didn’t even unhook his seatbelt.Case and point.
“I’m Dr. Kroger,” the man said, holding his hand out to shake. “Do you want to come out of the car and shake my hand?”I LIED, THIS WAS THE HARDEST PART OF THIS SCENE. I have experience with regular therapists, but I’ve never seen or heard of an interaction like this, so making it believable was extremely difficult. I hope that I did an okay job!
Jungkook stared at his hand and suddenly was conscious of the tears streaming down his cheeks. He pushed them away with the heels of his palms. Everything in the world is getting dredged up for Jungkook right now, the poor little peanut. He’s scared of this therapist. He’s scared of his own anger. He’s scared of what happened to his mom; he’s scared of what’s going to happen to him. He knows he’s being terrible to his family, but he’s terrified of losing them at the same time, and he’s just... so out of touch with how he’s really feeling, you know? So he doesn’t even notice he’s crying until it happens.

Can you do a commentary for the Welcome Home scene where they adopt yoongi? "Seokjin squeezed Namjoon’s hand. “Okay, are you nervous? I’m nervous,” Seokjin said, wringing his hands together. He’d been excited all week for Yoongi’s adoption hearing..." It's a long scene so just pick and choose whatever you want!
I was just going to do all of it, and then I actually LOOKED at this scene, and oh my goodness gracious, I may have to pick and choose. Up front, I can tell you that I did a lot of research and that some of this is probably incorrect, but admittedly, I didn’t really know how many people would end up looking at this story, and I maybe could have put more effort in. (I did try to learn as much as I can before writing but I didn’t easily find many materials, so maybe I could have searched harder for some video or something.) To begin, here is the section:
Seokjin squeezed Namjoon’s hand. “Okay, are you nervous? I’m nervous,” Seokjin said, wringing his hands together.
He’d been excited all week for Yoongi’s adoption hearing. Seokjin had been almost frantic, cleaning and baking and being productive. He had been in such a great mood; he’d turned the house over, looking for things to clean and laundry to wash. Every time he thought about finally having custody over Yoongi, he was filled with energy.
But now that he was here, he was so worried about something going wrong. What if he said the wrong thing? Or what if Yoongi changed his mind and said he didn’t want to live with them? What if they weren’t fit parents?
“Why are you nervous?” Yoongi asked.
Seokjin looked down at him. Yoongi was dressed up in his new suit, about to see a courtroom for the first time. Not for the first time, Seokjin was struck with how much he had grown in their short time together. Seokjin bit his lip. “I’m… Well…” he trailed off, unsure of what to say. He didn’t want Yoongi to be worried, but he also didn’t want to lie to him. “I’m just scared I won’t be able to explain how much I love you when the judge asks.”
“Yeah, we love you more than words can say, Sugar,” Namjoon promised, and Seokjin elbowed him in the side for being corny.
“But you think it’ll be okay, right?” Yoongi asked. “You think it’ll be okay?”
“Of course. We’ve made a good home for you, Yoongi. They’ll see that,” Namjoon promised.
“They’ll see that,” Seokjin echoed, trying to convince himself. He knelt down and fussed with Yoongi’s hair, trying to make it lie perfectly against his head. “And you’re sure you want to live with us, right? You’re positive?”
Yoongi nodded frantically. “Yes. Forever,” Yoongi said. He squirmed. His little suit looked stiff on his body. “And you think it’ll be okay? This is gonna be okay?”
Namjoon snorted and ruffled the hair Seokjin had just spent so long fixing. “Listen to both of you guys, double-checking over and over. Everything is going to be okay, I promise. We all want to be a family, and as long as we say that, it’ll be okay. I promise you,” he said.
Yoongi took a deep breath, seeming assured. Meanwhile, Seokjin couldn’t help but notice the tension in Namjoon’s shoulders.
“But you think it’ll be okay?” Yoongi asked, compulsively asking again.
Seokjin managed to pull himself together. “Yes, Yoongi, it’ll be okay.”
Yoongi grabbed his shirtsleeve. “I don’t want to get moved.”
“I know, Yoongi, it’ll be okay,” Seokjin promised.
They waited in the hallway for a while before they were called into the courtroom. Yoongi kept asking over and over if everything was going to be all right, and Seokjin felt terrible for mentioning he was nervous. Yoongi had already been worried, and Seokjin had known that before he spoke up, and now Yoongi was twice as scared.
Fortunately, the first half of the trial went smoothly. The judge reviewed their paperwork one last time and made sure that everything was in order. Yoongi was –in fact- up for adoption, and his caseworker had confirmed that Seokjin and Namjoon had a suitable house for Yoongi to stay in.
Seokjin had been relieved that everything had been filed correctly, but he hadn’t been worried about whether or not the judge would verify their petition.
He had been worried about the short answer portion of the process.
“Now why is this adoption in the child’s best interest?” Judge Baker questioned.
Namjoon fielded the question easily. “Yoongi has lived in five homes before coming to ours, three of which were state-assigned housing that were unsuitable. My husband and I agree with Yoongi’s caseworker that it would be helpful for him to have a stable home.”
“And what about his parents?” Judge Baker asked.
Seokjin cleared his throat. “Dead, your Honor. He lived with his grandparents for a while, who have now died as well.” Yoongi gripped at the table next to him, his eyes wider than Seokjin was used to seeing. He rubbed his back to help him relax.
The judge nodded, confirming with her notes. “And from whom were you awarded custody?”
“The state,” Seokjin answered.
Namjoon nodded. “Yoongi has been living with us for three years now.”
The judge grunted and leaned over her desk. She looked at Yoongi, her face open and friendly now that she was talking to a kid instead of adults. “And have you liked living with your foster parents, Yoongi?”
Yoongi nodded and clutched at Seokjin’s arm. He seemed pale. “Yes,” he squeaked nervously. Seokjin patted his head with his free hand, hating how pale Yoongi looked.
The judge smiled at Yoongi’s answer. “Okay, that’s good. You should like living with the people who want to adopt you,” she said. Her gaze lifted to Namjoon and Seokjin. “And why would you as parents like to adopt?”
Seokjin and Namjoon looked at each other, both ready to answer. Namjoon nodded at Seokjin, and Seokjin floundered for a second before speaking. “Ah, well, honestly, your Honor, we’ve both fallen in love with Yoongi during the course of his stay. He had a hard time of things before coming to our house, and I hate the idea of him going to another house that is unable to care for him properly. I think we know what Yoongi needs, and we want to be able to give that to him.”
“Plus,” Namjoon said, straightening his tie. “Growing up, I had a similar experience in foster care as Yoongi. So personally, I can relate to what he’s been through, and… and so I think I can be helpful to him, especially considering how much I care about him.”
“But you have four other foster children,” Judge Baker mused, flicking through their paperwork.
“Right,” Namjoon said.
“But it wouldn’t impede on our ability to take care of Yoongi,” Seokjin promised. “We’re very purposeful about spending individual time with all of our boys.”
Namjoon put a hand on Seokjin’s elbow. “And Seokjin has done a great job of setting up a very structured household. The boys all have set responsibilities and schedules, so it’s very organized how we, like…, care for all of our kids, including Yoongi,” he assured.
The judge hummed. “Okay. Well, it seems as though everything is in order. Your caseworker has written you a glowing review, so as long as Yoongi is happy with the decision-“
“I am!” Yoongi helped, interrupting.
The judge looked at him. “Are you sure?” she asked. “You want Namjoon and Seokjin to be your parents?”
Yoongi nodded confidently. “Yes, I’m sure,” he promised.
The judge nodded. “Then it’s decided,” she said, taking out a pen and the proper form. Yoongi was still clinging to Seokjin, and Seokjin wrapped and arm around him in an awkward hug. “Congratulations Seokjin and Namjoon Kim. You’re parents.”
“He’d been excited all week for Yoongi’s adoption hearing. Seokjin had been almost frantic, cleaning and baking and being productive. He had been in such a great mood; he’d turned the house over, looking for things to clean and laundry to wash. Every time he thought about finally having custody over Yoongi, he was filled with energy.” This is one of those things that I would like to change and edit because like… I think Seokjin would likely be more exhausted than anything else, like the more I talk to moms of young kids, the more I realize they are actually just tired all of the time. But like in my mind while writing, Seokjin is like… super dad who can do everything and take care of any problem. And to be fair, I also do sometimes like that portrayal over realism just because, like, Welcome Home was mostly supposed to be something really cute and really warm and fuzzy? And I think the idea of Seokjin baking and getting laundry done adds to the homey feeling of it? So while I might not make the same choice now as I did then, I don’t want to change it because, like… it has it’s place. IT IS A WORK OF FICTION, LET ME HAVE MY SUPER DAD SEOKJIN.
“Not for the first time, Seokjin was struck with how much he had grown in their short time together.” Any time a kid wears a suit, they look so much more grown up. And he’s checking up on his dad in this scene, like a little adult, and he’s just a big boy, it is very sweet. Seokjin loves him so much.
“And you think it’ll be okay? This is gonna be okay?” This is early evidence of Yoongi checking, which is something that I had recently read up on for Yoongi’s OCD in BKYA. He asks the same question over and over, just to be sure.
“Namjoon snorted and ruffled the hair Seokjin had just spent so long fixing.” Namjoon, like… doesn’t let Yoongi or Seokjin’s anxiety rub off on him. He’s unaffected by it. Which doesn’t mean he isn’t concerned when his family is upset or that it doesn’t hurt him to see his family in pain, just that he doesn’t absorb other people’s hurt, he can stay calm in a crisis. He can snort and ruffle hair and relax, while Seokjin is more pent up and anxious. He absorbs everything everyone else is feeling, and also he’s like… worried about how Yoongi’s hair looks and everything else he could possibly be worried about all at once. (And honestly, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Namjoon is my dad, and Seokjin is my mom, like… Namjoon is cool as a cucumber and walks in to save the day. My mom is always three steps ahead and able to put out fires before they even start. Every relationship has a calm one and an anxious one, including Namjin here.)
“Yoongi nodded and clutched at Seokjin’s arm.” (Okay, sorry to skip so low, but I mentioned how I wanted to show Yoongi checking, we all know the backstory, and most of these were questions I read that people should be prepared for during adoptions in family court, so that’s the explanation for all of that dialogue, and Seokjin and Namjoon were ready to answer those questions because their social worker informed them they’d be coming. ANYWAY.) I never had the chance before, I don’t think, to show it, but Yoongi was very shy as a little kid. He had trouble forming attachments and making connections, and he was a little distrusting, so like… strangers intimidated him. Seokjin is definitely used to Yoongi nervously clinging to him. Just another reason they should be together.
“Ah, well, honestly, your Honor, we’ve both fallen in love with Yoongi during the course of his stay.” Like… Seokjin lists a lot of ways they take good care of Yoongi, but honestly, Yoongi has been in some ways a big help to Seokjin. He is the oldest, and therefore the most capable at helping Seokjin when Namjoon is away. And like, as Dr. Phil says, you NEVER burden children with adult problems, it makes them feel helpless. And Seokjin never asked too much of Yoongi; he never left him responsible for his siblings or gave him too big a task, but like… Once Yoongi warmed up to Jungkook, he liked giving him bottles and being a good big brother? And he could run and get Taehyung a pillow if Seokjin asked. And he liked trailing around Seokjin and mirroring him, so I’m sure he helped with things like clearing the table or putting dishes in the dishwasher. Like little things that a seven-year-old could do, and nothing that would BURDEN him, like no expectations, just Yoongi being helpful because he wanted to be or because he was capable. Kids should have responsibilities they can handle, and I think Yoongi rose to the occasion in that regard. Additonally, like… he was a warm snuggly body who loved Seokjin back. Like in I Have You, just Yoongi’s presence is enough to calm Seokjin down.
Like Yoongi is a little person, and he and Seokjin have a good father son relationship. Seokjin loves him. They mean a lot to each other. It’s reciprocal.
“We’re very purposeful about spending individual time with all of our boys.” EXTREMELY PURPOSEFUL. Like as soon as Jungkook came, Seokjin realized he needed to now be thoughtful about how he spent his time. He didn’t want to let all three boys blend into one despite Jungkook’s ailments, and so he started being very careful about giving each kid one on one attention, and that was what allowed him to take on Taehyung and Hoseok. Without that individual attention (which is possible due to Namjoon coming home at a reasonable hour and things like a structured nap time and also the little activities they signed the boys up for, like My Gym and painting classes), it wouldn’t have been possible. But also, Seokjin and Namjoon have the money for Namjoon to be around and to pay for classes for toddlers, so. They could also afford that individual time that some parents can’t.
(But a good example of them being purposeful is I think in Vulnerable is when Namjin talks about these little classes, and I think that’s when Seokjin finds time for one of the kids, geez, maybe Yoongi? They all blur together.)(Also taking Jimin to Target is another good example. He loves Target because he gets to spend time with his daddy all alone, it’s their special time.)
“The boys all have set responsibilities and schedules…”  That also makes having five kids possible, and like honestly I have been learning that lesson a lot lately from this YouTube channel, Our Tribe of Many. The mom has 9 kids and counting, and they are all BEAUTIFUL LET ME TELL YOU. But she has such a really set routine and she makes sure to give her kids responsibilities. And I wish I would have included that more in the series because when I read through, it seems like it’s all on Seokjin’s shoulders. But I think he would have died, like I should have shown the kids in BKYA cleaning their own bathroom or vacuuming because I think in a healthy household, the kids help out? Like chores have to get done by someone, and it shouldn’t all fall on one person. These are all some belated thoughts I am having…
“I am!” Yoongi helped, interrupting. Yoongi pays attention when people are talking, and he follows adult conversation very well. He’s extremely smart; hopefully that comes off well.
“Yoongi was still clinging to Seokjin, and Seokjin wrapped and arm around him in an awkward hug.” Yoongi actively seeks Seokjin out when he needs comfort, and Seokjin will always, always provide that for him. He will always protect him, even wordlessly like in this moment. And THAT is why their caseworker gave them a glowing review, like that gets down to the heart of it. Because while individual attention, schedules, and responsibilities are all important for kids, like… it can’t happen without that parental love and support. Seokjin and Namjoon both instinctively want what’s best for their kids, even if they’re not biological, that was obvious in every visitation they had with a social worker. Like they were clearly good parents, it’s in their genetic makeup, I swear to you.

Hi!! I hope im not being annoying with another BKYA question but i was really curious about this... How would the fam spend birthdays?? Specially when the boys got older, did they want to spend their birthdays with friends instead of family? Were there family birthday presents?? I honestly cant remember if you ever mentioned the concept in BKYA but if you have im sorry (/.\)!!!!
This is a good question and I have a very embarrassing reason to why I’ve never mentioned their birthdays. So first let me explain why I never said anything about it, and then I will answer your actual question.
When I wrote Welcome Home, I didn’t really go into it thinking it would be a series? Like it was supposed to be a oneshot about Jin introducing Hoseok to the house and nothing more. And then I started writing more of it, and I wanted all the boys to be at like a young, fresh, whatever-age-I-said-they-were. So Jungkook in Welcome Home just turned two. And Taehyung just turned three. Which basically means that all of them would have had to have their birthdays all at the same time and also RIGHT before Welcome Home started, and now that I have all this other crap about them, it makes even less sense then it did when I wrote the stupid fic in the first place.
So I just avoided the subject of birthdays because SH, ITS FINE, THEY NEVER AGE.
But as for what their birthday presents were like let me answer your questions in order.
How would the fam spend birthdays?? I think with five kids, Jin didn’t have the funds or energy to do anything too massive for any of the boys. But they would definitely all go out to eat at any restaurant the birthday boy wanted for dinner. But like... they’d go out on the weekend, and their ACTUAL birthday, Jin would make them their favorite meal to have at home. And then they had I think little birthday occasions? Like maybe a little birthday party with preschool friends when they were little and Paw Patrol themed plates and stuff? But then when they got older, they could invite 2-3 friends to an activity they wanted to do, like bowling or kayaking, whatever. Specially when the boys got older, did they want to spend their birthdays with friends instead of family?I think all the boys feel really at home with their family, and didn’t want to NOT spend their birthday with their dads/brothers (excluding a few angsty phases here and there). So most of the time it was combined. And if they really wanted someone at their family birthday dinner, Seokjin and Namjoon wouldn’t say no. There’s always room at the table for one more!
Were there family birthday presents??Of fucking course?! OF COURSE. Consider if you will, homemade presents from the babies? Picture 2-year-old Jungkook giving Seokjin a fistful of grass clippings and leaves from outside. Picture 7-year-old Yoongi giving Namjoon a painting he’s really proud of. Picture 4-year-old Jimin making Taehyung the best birthday cake he could ever ask for (with a huge amount of help from Jin, obviously). But also when they get older and had money they would definitely buy each other gifts or at least get each other things with their parents’ money. Also for reference, I think that the Kim household prefers lots of little presents than lots of big presents or a few big presents. Like the kids aren’t spoiled, but they are also well loved and provided for in abundance!

I feel like i always message you about Big Kids, Young Adults, but can i have a commentary for Chapter 6: Slight reform, from "A few minutes later, the screech of brake pedals rattled.." to "Jungkook took a shaky breath. “Sure.”" its a bit longer than 500 words but i hope you dont mind. That whole scene is one of my favourite things uve ever written, its such a realistic & heartrending look at what happens when a troubled childs anger first breaks and i remember when read it i cried a lot :)))
You sure can! I am so sorry for the wait! (Also thank you so much for the high praise! I am so glad you thought so well of it, I really appreciate your positive feedback!)
Here is the passage:
A few minutes later, the screech of brake pedals rattled his bedroom windows. He could hear his brothers rushing out the door. Jimin and Hoseok were laughing loudly about something, and Taehyung was humming the same tune Jungkook had heard Yoongi practicing on the piano earlier. Jungkook buried his face in his pillow.
A few minutes later, there were footsteps on the stairs and his bedroom door was thrown open. “Rise and shine, Jungkookie! It’s time to greet the day!” Seokjin said, stepping into his room.
“I’ve already greeted it,” Jungkook answered in a gravely voice.
Seokjin –who was already rooting through his dresser to find him some clothes to wear- turned to face him. He looked surprised. “Oh, you’re up already?”
Jungkook nodded, his eyes fixed on a loose thread on his comforter. It had little roads and buildings printed on it. When he was little, he and Seokjin would take turns lying underneath it while the other drove little matchbox cars across the roads on their backs.
Jungkook scrunched his eyes closed.
“Well, that’s good! If you hurry, you can make it to first period on time,” Seokjin said. He put a stack of clothes on Jungkook’s hip. Jungkook rubbed his face with both hands, his guilt magnifying. Seokjin seemed to notice something was the matter because he sat on the edge of his bed a moment later. “Jungkook? Honey? Is something wrong?”
“Stop asking,” Jungkook muttered into his hands. He felt Seokjin’s fingers start combing through his hair.
“What’s that? I couldn’t quite hear you.”
“I said stop asking. Stop being nice to me,” Jungkook said a little louder. Seokjin’s hand pulled away fast, as if he had been burned.
“What? What’s wrong?”
“You... You shouldn’t be so nice to me,” Jungkook snapped, blinking his eyes open to stare at Seokjin. His dad looked crestfallen for some reason, but Jungkook had a feeling it was his fault. “Yesterday, I made you cry, and you’re still being nice.” Jungkook wanted to stop sounding angry, but he couldn’t get rid of the edge to his voice. He bit his bottom lip, frustrated. Meanwhile, Seokjin’s expression softened a little bit.
“I can’t help but be nice to you. You’re my Kookie,” he cooed, planting a couple kisses on his forehead. For once, Jungkook didn’t squirm away. Seokjin pulled back a little, his eyebrows furrowing together. “Sweetheart, what’s going on? It isn’t like you to be so slumped like this.”
Jungkook grunted. He felt slumped — like he couldn’t lift his body from his mattress even if he tried. “I wasn’t nice to you,” he repeated.
Seokjin’s concerned face relaxed with an amused smile. “You know, most people apologize when they feel guilty,” he said gently.
Jungkook’s face immediately screwed up at the thought. He didn’t want to apologize. But as he stared up at Seokjin and thought about his dad driving toy cars over his back while he was falling asleep, he crumbled a little bit. He was so tired.
Jungkook’s bottom lip wobbled. He tried to keep it still, but the more he tried not to cry, the worse he felt. “I’m really sorry,” he managed to choke out just as his shoulders started to shake. He let out a sob so violent, he thought his body would shake apart, but his dad caught him before he could.
“It’s okay,” Seokjin promised. “It’s okay, you’re okay. I understand.”
Jungkook shook his head against his dad’s chest. His shoulders were so tense he was worried they would snap in two. It wasn’t okay. He had broken Seokjin’s heart over and over again without caring. He didn’t deserve to be in this house, he didn’t want to be here. “F-Forgive me,” he stammered out.
“You didn’t even have to ask,” Seokjin promised. He settled them into a more comfortable position. Jungkook was humiliated to be seen crying like this, but if anyone was going to witness it, he was glad it was just Jin.
Jin had always been gentle with him, always cradled him close and kept him safe. Jungkook was embarrassed to be crying, but he was happy for the excuse to have Seokjin hold him for the first time in a long while.
His hands clutched at Jin’s t-shirt.
“You know,” Seokjin started, one hand playing with the hair at the nape of Jungkook’s neck, “You were the first of all the boys to start regularly calling me and Namjoon ‘dad.’ I think Jimin had said it once before you, and Yoongi had mentioned it a couple of times, but you were the one who came home from school one day and said, ‘Dad, I’m home!’”
Jungkook sniffled.
Seokjin continued. “I think you heard all the kids at school calling their parents mom and dad and realized that ‘Jin’ and ‘Joon’ weren’t quite the same.” Seokjin dropped his head to bury his nose in Jungkook’s hair. Jungkook didn’t pull away. “I know that it’s hard for you and that you’re really confused and scared. Growing up isn’t easy. But yelling at everyone isn’t going to solve anything, and I think that pushing everyone away is hurting you more than it’s hurting me.”
Jungkook shuddered. “I’m not pushing everyone away,” he muttered, his tears mostly subsiding. He wanted to stay close to Seokjin, but his pride made him pull away. “I don’t know what I’m doing. But... but I am sorry.”
Seokjin offered him a knowing smile. “You don’t have to know,” he promised. “We’ll figure it out together, okay?”
Jungkook took a shaky breath. “Sure.”
Jungkook buried his face in his pillow.Okay so for this part, I wanted to show how like... the other members of the family all get along and seem really happy. Like Jimin and Hoseok are sharing a laugh, and Taehyung and Yoongi are sharing music, and like... physically they’re extremely separate. They’re downstairs, leaving the house, and Jungkook is upstairs stuck in his room. So like... I wanted to show that contrast? And Jungkook is also aware of it, hence why he buries his face in his pillow. It’s like... he hears his brother’s laughing and singing and he’s upset but doesn’t know why? But the reason is, he’s just upset that he doesn’t belong and that he’s pushed everyone away.
A few minutes later, there were footsteps on the stairs and his bedroom door was thrown open. “Rise and shine, Jungkookie! It’s time to greet the day!” Seokjin said, stepping into his room. This is how my mom would wake up my sister when she wouldn’t wake up for school. (My sister had POTS, though, she wasn’t trying to skip like Jungkook.)
Jungkook nodded, his eyes fixed on a loose thread on his comforter. It had little roads and buildings printed on it. When he was little, he and Seokjin would take turns lying underneath it while the other drove little matchbox cars across the roads on their backs.I do this with a kid I babysit, and I thought it would be a nice addition! It’s nostalgic where like... matchbox cars are pretty universal and everyone knows how nice it feels to have a toy car roll on you (why is that such a good feeling?) but it’s also kind of unique to Jungkook and Seokjin.
He put a stack of clothes on Jungkook’s hip. Jungkook rubbed his face with both hands, his guilt magnifying. I distinctly remember wanting to add a lot of tactile imagery in this particular part. I thought I needed something physical to make the emotions stand out a little more. Maybe that’s crazy? (I have so many intentions behind my writing, you think it would be better than it actually is.)
Jungkook wanted to stop sounding angry, but he couldn’t get rid of the edge to his voice. He bit his bottom lip, frustrated. Being angry is so much more comfortable for Jungkook. It’s a survivalist mindset, to be mad, and that’s why he’s so stuck in it. He’s afraid to be vulnerable, and anger is a good front. That’s all breaking now, though.
He felt slumped — like he couldn’t lift his body from his mattress even if he tried. All that anger is a front for d e p r e s s i o n. As Dr. Phil would say, take out the word “angry” from the dictionary and you’re left with depressed, scared, or frustrated.
Seokjin’s concerned face relaxed with an amused smile. “You know, most people apologize when they feel guilty,” he said gently.Seokjin can read Jungkook like a book. But also he knows better than to push too much? Especially because it’s not often that Jungkook is vulnerable, and like... I think Seokjin is taking the opportunity to be honest with him and to point him in the right direction, but he’s also being careful not to upset him. Like he’s not demanding an apology because Seokjin knows this moment isn’t about him, it’s about Jungkook. But he also knows Jungkook is probably having trouble naming what he’s feelings because -as we’ve learned- Jungkook has no self-awareness, he just fronts all of his emotions with anger.
But as he stared up at Seokjin and thought about his dad driving toy cars over his back while he was falling asleep, he crumbled a little bit. He was so tired. He loves his daddy and he misses him :(
Jungkook’s bottom lip wobbled. He tried to keep it still, but the more he tried not to cry, the worse he felt. “I’m really sorry,” he managed to choke out just as his shoulders started to shake. He let out a sob so violent, he thought his body would shake apart, but his dad caught him before he could. He misses his dad so much, but he doesn’t have to. Seokjin is right there. He has always been there and always will be. He’s going to hold Jungkook together no matter what.
“It’s okay,” Seokjin promised. “It’s okay, you’re okay. I understand.”Seokjin already forgave Jungkook the minute it happened. Even if he got upset, like... he knows Jungkook is young and lost. He would never hold a grudge against him, it really is okay. Seokjin still loves him.
Jungkook shook his head against his dad’s chest. His shoulders were so tense he was worried they would snap in two. It wasn’t okay. He had broken Seokjin’s heart over and over again without caring. He didn’t deserve to be in this house, he didn’t want to be here. “F-Forgive me,” he stammered out.I just don’t think Jungkook understand that Seokjin really IS his dad. Like Jungkook is his son. Sometimes kids do things to their parents that they don’t mean; or that they do mean and are just mislead about? Seokjin knows that, but Jungkook doesn’t, so the guilt is crippling. He doesn’t understand that Seokjin will take him back with open arms again, and again, and again because he loves him. Because he really is his dad. Like Jungkook doesn’t have to worry about missing him, he is going to be there forever, I can’t emphasize it enough.
Jungkook was humiliated to be seen crying like this, but if anyone was going to witness it, he was glad it was just Jin.JUNGKOOK. LOVES. HIS. DAD. THE. MOST.
His hands clutched at Jin’s t-shirt.This and like... wanting to be held? Jungkook is still a child. He still wants to be nurtured, he still wants affection from his dad, and he’s going to get it, lucky for him.
“You know,” Seokjin started, one hand playing with the hair at the nape of Jungkook’s neck, “You were the first of all the boys to start regularly calling me and Namjoon ‘dad.’ I think Jimin had said it once before you, and Yoongi had mentioned it a couple of times, but you were the one who came home from school one day and said, ‘Dad, I’m home!’”Jungkook hasn’t really known any other parents, so I thought it would make sense for Namjoon and Seokjin to become “dad” before anyone else.
“Growing up isn’t easy. But yelling at everyone isn’t going to solve anything, and I think that pushing everyone away is hurting you more than it’s hurting me.”Again, Seokjin is going to use this moment of vulnerability not to like... call Jungkook out and chastise him, but hopefully guide him to some self-realization.
“I don’t know what I’m doing.”Jungkook is pushing everyone away, but he can’t really understand that because like... he’s jealous of his brothers being close and he wants to be part of them, and he wants to be close with his dads. He doesn’t understand that you can push people you love away, like pushing people away doesn’t mean you hate them, it means that for some reason, you’re trying to protect yourself from what you see as a threat. And I think Jungkook sees caring as a threat right now.
