I am currently watching four different Japanese qls every week (is this real life?? I’m not used to this kind of bountiful access to Japanese media) and I don’t want them to get lost in the shuffle amongst the bigger Discourse shows, so I’m going to start posting this little round up at the end of each week. These are all on Gaga and I highly recommend watching!

Chaser Game W

Finally a high quality gl, we have been waiting so long. And this one is making some really interesting choices, namely in making one of its leads deeply unlikeable. It's clear that Harumoto broke her heart in a deeply foolish way (I smell noble idiocy), but Fuyu's revenge for her hurt feelings is way over the line of what anyone could consider fair. Not only did she pursue this job just to personally harass her ex, she is a terrible boss who is abusing her employees to work out her personal grudges, and she's awful to her husband, as well. This show is smart enough that I trust they have a point with this (likely one that will involve commentary on misogyny and traditional gender roles) so I am hanging in to see what it is.

Sahara Sensei to Toki-kun

This one is the latest in the Drama Shower line up, and it is really not working for me on the whole, but Toki is a great character and I wish I could port him to another show. This week's episode spent a baffling amount of time filling in a backstory for Sahara that we already understood, and didn't even connect it thematically to the ongoing plot in any meaningful way. In fact, given the backstory we saw, it made even less sense that Sahara would be encouraged to pursue a relationship with Toki. This show just feels very confused about both the social conventions of its universe and what it's ultimately trying to say. Looking forward to it wrapping next week and seeing what Drama Shower has on tap next.

Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yara ka

I LOVE THIS SHOW. Sakae is such a kind soul, and Soga is a dear. I love that this show is exploring the reality of what it looks like for an "opposites attract" pair to actually try to find common ground. Sakae falling for Soga at first sight, only to realize they have nothing in common and he will have to work hard to build a bond with him, is such a delight. And I like that it feels reciprocal and Soga is also making a sincere effort. And this show is doing nice things with the side characters, too. Tatsuta is a great Get A Grip Friend for Sakae, and Kazuyo is such a sweetheart that I really hope she'll stick around rooting for this pair once she inevitably gets let down gently. Also loved getting a glimpse of the exes this week and hope to see more filled in there.

Ossan's Love Returns

I am saving this one for last on Fridays going forward, because it's such a great note to end my week on. I already posted last week about why I'm so in love with it, and this week continued the love fest. This show is SO FUCKING FUNNY while also having some really awesome messages about relationships and love at any age. I love the way Maki and Haruta are given the same cute couple moments we'd see for younger bl pairs, and the casual affection between them really stands out among more reserved depictions of Japanese couples. Highlights this week also included father-in-law bonding, Takegawa trying out a Bachelor-esque reality show in his quest for a diaper partner, Chief continuing to be an absolute delight in every scene, and several new twists in the mystery of the neighbors (loved that Haruta was having all the same reactions to that backstory that I was). ONSEN EPISODE NEXT WEEK, BABY!

ok, hear me out, cause I've had this idea for years and GMM certainly has enough actors:

Imagine a gay bachelors/love island show. Mix can be the main character, some rich bachelor trying to find the love of his life, and the others are all contestants or other players. But there are challenges to figure out compatibility, dates, temorarily pairing up, someone is an ex, another was a one night stand who can't forget him, someone else is trying to cheat or in cahoots/sleeping with a "crew member'. Just a big, messy dating show with a bunch of kissing, drama, people pairing off etc.

I just think it'd be neat.

Oooh yes, I’m all for this! I’ve actually been wanting to write a reality dating show AU ever since I read The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun (highly recommend!). That was actually one of the options on my build-fanfic poll, but I don’t think anyone voted for it except me. There’s just so much to play around with there and it would be so easy to film.

I don’t know if you watched DMD Friendship The Reality, but it was Domundi’s reality show where the whole point was to find your BL acting partner. I literally think they should just make a fictional version of that. It had a better plot and more romance than some actual BLs 😂

Hi, Ben!  I hope your day is going well so far!  Are you still getting snow, or has the storm calmed a bit?  We’re supposed to be getting a potentially severe ice storm over the course of today.  There’s already a thin layer this morning, we’ll see how the rest of the day goes.  And temperatures are supposed to stay in about the -4 to -6C range the rest of the week.  I’m very glad that I’m off the next couple of days, and managed to get by the grocery last night after work.

I saw your post about writing and writing styles!  It was helpful because I’ve not really seen the different styles written out and explained before.  I’m still not 100% which I am, but probably either an intuitive plotter or a methodological pantser.  Usually there’s a scene or a line or two that I’m like “this needs to happen in this story” and everything else is fairly free-form.  I did try actually writing down an outline for IYWTD, but even then it’s more a list of beats/tropes and the order I want to include them in.  (And I’ve only just made it past halfway through, although a couple may need to be altered a bit, oh god, how did this get so long…)

It’s also always kinda of amusing to me how many of those writing advice lists are like “Don’t do this”, “Stop doing this”, “Never do that”, and then they’ll encourage you to find your own voice and style.  Like, bitch, you just told me not to ever do half the shit that makes up my style.  Which am I supposed to do?  Damn.  XD  (You will seriously pry adverbs and similar descriptors from my cold, dead, grasping hands.  Also the occasional epithet.  No, I’m not using a character’s name nine times in one paragraph, sorry, and pronouns don’t always help if the characters are the same gender.  The reader can deal. ;D )

And I feel ya on the tall, skinny, blue-eyed boys thing.  It doesn’t have to be just a white boy, but if he’s taller than me, slender, and has a pretty pair of baby blues, my higher brain functions tend to go into insta-lag.  I ain’t particularly proud, but I’ve long accepted this about myself (there are many reasons Luke became my forever BAE.)  That’s not to say a lack of any of those is a deal-breaker in the slightest, but it’s definitely going to immediately get my attention.

Speaking (vaguely) of Luke, I had a thought the other day of him and Din being off on some planet together (Grogu is staying with Aunt Leia and Uncle Han for a few days), and there’s a noise in the middle of the night, and Din refuses to accept Luke’s assurance that there’s nothing out there, and in true himbo fashion insists on going out to investigate having grabbed only the darksaber and his helmet to cover his face -but nothing else.  Luke just finds it a combo of hysterical and adorable (and kinda hot.)

I hope your novel is going well (whatever stage you happen to be at), and I’m always up for hearing whatever you feel like sharing about it.

I hope you’re still doing well with the whole eating and hydrating regularly thing (it’s also totally okay if you aren’t!), and I’m super proud of you for sticking to it as much as you can anyway.  That shit is hard.  (Also, ignore the 1500 calories thing, I swear that shit is designed for 130lb women trying to shed a few pounds, not people who need to safely and steadily lose larger amounts of weight.  But then I’ve also never fully understood making someone lose weight before surgery, either.  “We need you to get rid of some excess weight before we’ll okay this surgery to *checks notes* get rid of some excess weight."  Like, weird flex, but okay.)

Anyway, I’m rambling again, and should really eat some breakfast and try to write a little myself today, maybe.  Hope you’re feeling okay, and that things are going well overall.  I hope Mo is doing well, and enjoying his best cuddle buddy life.  Take care!  *Hugs!*

Okay, gonna try this this way so that I can refer back to the links on my phone if need be.  I couldn’t quite see the full entries for the physical descriptions, and when I tried clicking on them it kept asking for a login, but I think I saw enough to get the gist.  I’m not sure exactly what sort of feedback you’re interested in, if any, so this will mainly be my usual sort of rambling stream-of-consciousness type thoughts and questions.  Hope that’s okay.  Feel free to ignore if it’s not what you’re after right now!  :D

I think one of the first questions that popped to mind was where is/what happened to Ellie’s mom, and is that something that’s going to cause problems later in some way?  (I.e.- was she killed on a hunt, are they divorced, was it bitter or amicable [would she come after her daughter if she heard about his relationship?])  I guess technically similar questions could also apply to Nate (late husband, ex-husband, ex-boyfriend, one night stand, sperm donor?) it was just more noticeable with Ellie being so young still.  Although that could also be part of why he’s ended up in Wyoming, which was another question I had, although there I assume it’s hunt-related.

I also anticipate quite a bit of tension of all kinds when he and Nate first meet, because Faron strikes me from his descriptions as someone rather used to being able to get his own way either through the influence of who he is, or through his size (not necessarily in any kind of intentional or aggressive way, more in an unconscious privilege kind of way, if that makes sense?), and I don’t think Nate sounds like the type to give two shits about either of those things, and it would probably drive Faron up the proverbial wall that Nate isn’t intimidated by him in the slightest.  (I could be entirely wrong about all this, this is just the impression I get so far. :D )  And I think Nate being noticeably older than him would just make it that much more irritating at first, too.  Now, how long these impressions last will just depend on how quickly they get to know each other, and whether Bachelor #3 is helping or hindering things.  XD  The potential for just sitting back and watching the fireworks as “laid-back dad jokes with a quick temper” clashes with “quiet, reserved, and possibly takes themselves slightly too seriously” might prove too much for our last contestant for a while, depending on where his personality falls.  ;D  (Especially since Faron coming in and starting shit will likely come off as a direct threat to people and places Nate considers under his protection.)

Also, are any of these three going to have met before?  Will Nate already have some sort of relationship with the werewolf (Does he already know about the supernatural at all?)  Did he and Faron encounter each other on the trip to Europe you mentioned in the Life Highlights?  If he and the wolf already know each other, how does he get along with Cas, or Nate’s pets?  Is the werewolf also going to be native to the region?  Does he know anything about Faron’s family?  Does Faron already know he’s a werewolf, or is that going to be a bit of a crisis for him later?  A test of how well he’s learned not to judge?  If Nate doesn’t already know, how will he deal with both their secrets?  Do you plan for full-shift only wolves, partial-shift only wolves, or a mix of the two like TW?  Are there other supes in the area?

I think you mentioned maybe having him be of Native American descent?  I think that could be very interesting, but would require a LOT of research into which tribes are active in the Yellowstone area, and what their individual mythologies say about things like shapeshifters, and LGTBQ+ issues, etc., because there can be a fair amount of variance, I’m sure.  Also, I’m just overall curious how he’ll fit in with the other two size wise (get your mind out of the gutter, you know what I mean.  XD )  Also curious if any o them are going to have the slightest clue on the feelings front, or are they all going to be just absolute disasters?  Will the kids figure it out before they do?  Will the kids get along?  (Will BachelorWolf have any kids of his own, or just Nate and Faron?)  Will Nate’s coworkers have any clue about either the supernatural, or what’s going on with those three?  Because I suspect at least some of them will be way more obvious than they think they’re being.  XD

Uh… I think that was all that’s occured to me right now?…  I’m sorry you’re having a yucky day overall, and I hope tomorrow’s a bit better!  The ice storm has finally moved in here, and I can feel the temperature drop radiating off of the front door and windows.  It went from rain to freezing rain/hail and I’m not sure how long it’s supposed to last.  Hopefully only a little while.  Also, sorry your book was terrible.  I haven’t seen too many recent recommendations from friends, and I’ve been mostly reading “cozy” mysteries (Agatha Christie, Elizabeth Peters, etc) as my comfort reading myself, lately, so I can’t really suggest anything in particular, unfortunately.  At least, nothing I think you wouldn’t already know.  Anyway, hope you’re getting some decent rest, and hope you have a better day tomorrow!  Take care!  *Hugs!*

Alright since this is going to be like a very long one, I’m break it down into a few things.

First full physical descriptions, cause I didn’t know Milanote would be a bitch about it.

Nate:

164 cm (5'4), 75 kg (166 lbs), Short slightly overweight trans man in his middle age. Nearly always the shortest man in the room, only standing around 5'4 and weighing in around 166 lbs. With kind moss green eyes that have permanent crow's feet in their corners and a polite but reserved smile always on his face. 

A face that's framed by faint freckles that are only visible in the sunlight. A neatly trimmed beard spices up his features and frames his pink lips. His thick but short eyebrows frame his eyes and create a short arc to his slim nose. 

A high forehead separates his brows from his wavy dark blond hair that's always tucked behind his ears. 

He generally wears the Superintendents' Park Ranger uniform while on duty. When he's not he wears comfortable jeans and t-shirts, usually a mono color like green, white, or black, plaid flannel shirts, socks with the weirdest patterns and colors, and hiking boots. He wears a steel ring on his right index finger and has a little steel Mjolnir on a necklace around his neck.

He's missing two fingers (his ring and little finger) on his left hand due to a childhood accident.

Faron:

185 cm (6'1 ft), 93 kg (205 lbs), Faron is a tall man with plenty of muscle from his time hunting. He can seem daunting and intimidating when you first meet him but there is a kinder, softer side to him. He has a warm light brown skin color, blue eyes, and black natural tight curly hair that he keeps very short. His full dark beard decorates his cheeks and chin, connects to his upper lip, and all the way up to his sideburns.

  He tends to wear dark clothing, leather jackets, no jewelry that could identify him, jeans, henley shirts, or V-neck shirts, and black, brown, or red jackets. He usually wears black combat boots or dark brown hiking boots. He's got knives and other weapons hidden all over his body and pockets and it might take him a good few minutes to unload every single knife from his body when he was to disarm.

There are also scars all over his body, including some scars on his neck that are visible from day to day life. He had the bad luck of being struck down by a vicious Wendigo but managed to escape. He survived thanks to his sister's quick thinking and first aid.

He covers some of those scars up with tattoos; he has one tattoo of a dragon laying down on his shoulder, with its head on his chest and its body curling over his shoulder and ending just below his shoulder blades. And one tattoo covers up some scars on his lower arm, it's a tattoo of a wolf's head that covers up a bite mark.

Dichali:

He’s 37 and has 4 siblings, and two children, Kajika & Kaniya (Jika & Niya, identical twins, but one of them identifies as male, he’s trans. Kajika is his chosen/reassigned name. They are 10.) Dichali grew up in Riverton, WY, which is the largest town of 10,000 in the largest Native Reservation in Wyoming. He’s also a dear friend to our Nate (who is also his boss technically) and has slowly been falling in love with him for the last few years. (Although he still hasn’t realized that he loves his friend.) 

Yena, his coworker and friend, who’s much younger at 25 has been watching her coworker and her boss joke and dance around each other. She has a betting pool with her girlfriend on who snaps first.

Not sure how I’ll connect him to Faron if it’s more fun/better to have him find out later or to already know him and keep it quiet. 

I’m still working on him, so I don’t have much of personality and other things written down yet. But I have made his physical description:

At 178 cm (5'8) and 83 kilos (182 lbs) Dichali probably isn't the tallest man you've met, he's also not the shortest. And while he's got some good muscle on him from working as a Park Ranger, and being a werewolf, he also has some softer sides. All the better to cuddle with. He has long straight brown hair that falls to his mid-back and deep brown eyes and a long nose that ends prominently. His eyebrows are thin and he has a high forehead. His skin is a light Tawny color, there's a hint of an orange brown with a cool undertone.

His skin is also relatively clear and youthful looking because of his lycanthropy.

He tends to wear pants and jackets made by native designers and always incorporates native fashion into his outfits. He has jackets of mostly gray, blue, brown, and black colors made of denim, cotton, wool, or brass that are lined with more traditional cloths and patterns like the designer brand Ginew. Usually he pairs them with dark jeans, either black, gray, or dark blue. He pairs it with white, blue, red, black, or printed band t-shirts (Metallica, Green Day, Marianas Trench). 

For shoes he has brown hiking boots that are part of the Ranger uniform, more western styled boots like black cowboy boots, and a pair of sneakers.He also wears a copper bracelet with lighting bolts etched into it.

Now this whole story got started because I had the question what if we had a DILF romance going on while/because the following happened?

What if a YouTube video that accidentally got uploaded shows the existence of a werewolf in Yellowstone park? Threatening to expose the entire supernatural world.

The werewolves right now are a mix, so half shift is like the classical half shift of a wolf head on a man’s body, but the full shift is more like a larger wolf. Almost the size of a black bear. Though I might change those ideas as the story progresses.

But that is how the Cryptid of Yellowstone is brought into the world. And that brings problems. Big problems.

Wendigos, vampires, djins, I plan to create a world where a lot of supernatural creates exist. From all sorts of cultures. I’m also toying with the idea of Kelpies and Griffins. That kind of stuff.

The supernatural world is hidden from ours, hidden in plain sight if you will. Most encounters are written off as really strange, sometimes a picture pops up, but with the coming of the internet, things have gotten more complicated. Also with deforestation and competition with regular wildlife has made some bigger supernatural creatures either extinct or thought to be extinct. They’re not sure what still lives in Australia, though.

Nate or his son don’t know about the supernatural world. Neither does Yena. Or much of the world. Dichali, his children (to some extent), Faron, and Faron’s family do know about this world.

Alright, as for your other post XD

Right now it’s no longer storming but due to the freezing temperatures the snow’s not going away and all public transport and delivery services are still not driving/delivering/running. So that’s neat. Not. 

I swear we get some snow and the country is just down. Upside, ain’t nobody going outside and this helps with lockdown.

I hope your snowstorm won’t be too bad and everything thaws down soon. Snow’s fun for a day but after that...

Honestly, I’m glad to hear you liked my advice too. I’m getting quite a bit of positive feedback on it and that just makes me really happy ^^. I’m definitely writing more writing advice from everything I’ve learned so far.

There’s honestly so many contradicting ones out there, it’s a matter of picking and choosing which ones work best for you and applying those. And that’s the real trick of advice.

Fun fact, a lot of famous writers are also pantsers. Steven King, Neil Gaiman, George RR Martin are examples of famous pantsers or gardeners as they are also called. 

John Grisham, JK Rowling, RL Stein fall into the plotter or architect category. 

Writers like Hank Green seem to fall in the in-between category of plantser (somewhere between a plotter and a pantser. Or the Intuitive plotter.)

True phobias? Probably no. But I feel a lot of anxiety getting anywhere near a cliff, or even seeing one on tv. I don’t generally like the open ocean. The weirdest one is that I really can’t stand sitting in a bathtub. I don’t even like seeing other people in them, or thinking about being in one. It gives me the shivers.

Not big into sports, but I did play soccer as a child.

It seemed that it was just another ordinary day.

(F/N) chose not to go to work that day. It’s not that she’s being lazy, no. The events that occurred a week ago took a toll on her well – being. She didn’t really remember much of what happened that day except for Kenny helping her to get up, but after that, she got really sick that she couldn’t get up from her bed.

Sometimes, Erwin would visit her, bringing her flowers and reassuring her that she would get better soon. They would have long, nonsensical conversations, and over time, she learned that the man known as the former Commander of the Scouting Legion was not so straight – laced or boring, after all. He made her smile, made her laugh, and made her feel better. She was happy spending time with him.

It seemed that it was just another ordinary day.

And it was on that day that she realized that there was something missing. It’s as if there was a hole in her heart that Erwin, himself, could never fill, despite all his efforts to make her happy.

(F/N) sighed and shifted uncomfortably on her bed. It was a really warm afternoon. The curtains weren’t drawn, despite Marie’s urging to let fresh air enter her room. She was still in her night gown, refusing to get up and change into a different kind of clothing. She just didn’t feel like it.

What’s wrong with me? She asked herself for the hundredth time that day, seeing that she couldn’t do anything to lift her own spirits up.

It was then that she heard noises just outside her room. She heard someone speaking in muffled voices and she actually heard a deep voice talking in response.

Oh, it’s Erwin. He has come to visit me again,… she thought,…

… but didn’t feel any excitement, at all.

The door slowly and quietly opened, as if the visitor didn’t want to wake the occupant up. She waited patiently for Erwin to greet her,…

… when a raven – head laid steel – blue eyes on her. Not blonde hair, not blue eyes,…

… it’s him.

Levi was a bit startled upon finding out that (F/N) was awake, fully expecting her to be asleep that time of the day.

Just like Erwin, he had been visiting her frequently. Although he chose times like these when (F/N) was surely asleep, he never failed to bring her gifts such as flowers or foods. He didn’t miss a single day. He was always there for her, despite her not knowing it.

So, his eyes actually widened upon seeing her awake. And he was never prepared for this moment.

But, if Levi wasn’t prepared for this, neither was (F/N).

Upon seeing him, her heart beat escalated into alarming heights. Her eyes felt like popping out of its sockets. Her fists decided to have a mind of its own by clenching the pure white sheets of her bed. She was clearly caught off – guard.

But, despite all that, she felt happy. It wasn’t just any kind of happy.

She felt complete. Whole.

So, it was you who was missing. She thought, then smiled at him. This gesture clearly surprised Levi.

“Well, are you going to stand there all day?” she joked, her voice still a bit hoarse.

“Oh! I – “ Levi muttered, entered the room, and closed the door behind him.

He’s stuttering again. It’s so cute.

For a few moments, he just stood there, not knowing what to do in this kind of situation. His time spent with Petra in similar locations were so different that he felt like a total piece of shit in front of such an innocent girl. Well, he had been an ass, so he knew he deserved all the embarrassment he was receiving from this torture. Of this torture of being in the presence of the girl he respected so much.

Of being with this girl he had learned to love without such lust, or blemish.

And as he looked at her angelic form on that large bed, he can’t help but feel that his soul was slowly burning with all the sins that he committed against her. He felt that he was slowly being punished. He instantly felt that he didn’t belong here.

He didn’t know what to do!

But, she changed all that with another smile.

“I’m sure that my fever isn’t contagious, Mr. Shunerman.” She said in a sing – song voice. “I’ am fully aware that you would not drop dead just by coming here near me.”

“No! It’s nothing like that. I – “

Ah, there with the stuttering again,…

“Oh! It’s not the fever, isn’t it?” she joked, theatrically clutching her chest like she was in total pain. “It’s my state of uncleanliness, isn’t it? Oh! I knew it! My heart, it hurts! It burns! Ah!” she hilariously, yet successfully, mimicked a person in a dying state. The sounds she made and the way she looked made Levi smile. Again, she was showing him another side of her he was not aware of.

“You’re not unclean. I’m telling the truth.” He said to her.

“Come here.” She said to him, gesturing for him to sit at the edge of her bed. He did so, still cautious of their positions and the fact that they were alone inside a room. He’s still supposedly a engaged man, he must not do anything to raise the suspicion of others. And above all, he must not break Marie’s trust towards her. She wants him to help her get her memories back, not let Erwin win her.

But, how could he do that, when he’s fully aware that she’s just going to remember all the bad things he did to her in the past? How could he help her when he’s fully aware that they���re both happy now as they were without her memories?

How could he when things are going good between the two of them?

He knew he must do his duty,…

… but, how?

“Are you okay?” (F/N) asked him, her head tilted just a bit. “You don’t seem well.”

Levi snapped out of his reverie and looked at her, surprised that she’s actually asking him if he’s okay, when she’s the one lying in bed.

“I’m good, but how about you? I’m worried,… about you,…” he let his sentence hang like that. Clearly, he didn’t really know how to have proper conversation with women.

“Thank you so much, Mr. Shunerman. I’m okay now, now that I saw you – “

(F/N) suddenly bit her lip. It was as if the words just slipped accidentally from her mouth.

But, nonetheless, he was happy to have heard that from her.

He smiled and handed her a single – stemmed tea rose he found in Shunerman’s garden. She took it and inhaled its sweet scent, its petals softly and gently brushing against her little nose. She blushed and smiled, closing her eyes and letting the scent overcome her senses. She received a lot of bouquets from Erwin containing different kinds of lovely flowers, but there was always that single – stemmed tea rose lying solemnly on her bedside table. Receiving the same thing from Elvis made her realize it was him who had been giving her that same flower, and not Erwin.

So, he had been visiting me, after all,…

“You are so unfair!” she suddenly said to him, her little lips forming a very disappointed pout.

“W-what?!” Levi uttered, taken by surprise once more by her swaying moods.

“You have been visiting me, and you’re not even waking me up! How unfair could you get?” and now, she looked as if she was on the verge of tears.

“Be reasonable, young lady! I want you to take a good rest so you could recover quickly.” Levi rebuked, not knowing what else to say aside from the very first things that formed inside his head.

But, she only laughed at what he said to her, adding to the discomfort he was experiencing.

“That’s – that’s called flirting.” She announced, wiping a single tear from her eye. “Lady Delilah taught me that.” Slowly, she turned her eyes towards him and regarded him seriously now, the rose still in her hand. “She said it’s a necessary tool for every lady to learn for the Winter Season. Do you – do you think it’s even that necessary? Why do I even have to flirt with strangers? To get myself a rich bachelor? Don’t you think it’s weird, the way nobles interact with each other? It seemed all fake, I hate it.”

(F/N) looked down at the rose and started twirling it with her fingers.

Levi just nodded. Honestly, he loved how she was very frank and honest with the things around her.

“You don’t have to do it, if you don’t want to.” He simply said to her. “I’m sure no one would hate you for that.”

She glanced at him once more. “Really?”

“Yeah. You’re just being yourself, after all. No one would hate anyone for just being honest. I mean, look at me.”

She smiled at him. “Yeah. You’re not very gallant, are you, My Lord?”

“I’m an asshole, My Lady. A total and hopeless piece of shit.” Levi said with that very handsome, devilish smirk of his.

(F/N) laughed at this. She liked how he was being honest with her.

Yes, honesty. It was the thing that most probably drew her to him in the first place.

She hoped all guys were honest, just like him.

“Now, I see why Miss Jacqueline fell in love with you.” She told him. “Where is she?”

“Business.” He told her. Well, it was the truth.

But, that - ?

“My Lady?”

“Yes, My Lord?” she said, the title she called him was merely in jest.

“What if I told you that I’m not really engaged with anyone, would you go out with me in the Winter Season?” he said, trying to test the waters.

And she answered truthfully.

“Of course. I don’t see any reason not to. Besides, I actually prefer you than those nobles here in Sina.”

“Even Erwin?”

“Yes!”

Levi’s eyes widened in surprise. On the other hand, (F/N) felt she said something she shouldn’t have. A few seconds later upon that realization, she skin turned a bright shade of crimson. She clenched the fragile rose, almost breaking it. She quickly ducked underneath her sheets in total embarrassment.

“I shouldn’t have said that!” She whined, her voice muffled by the heavy sheets. “Oh, you must think I’m a very sinful woman now,…”

That was being sinful? Levi thought with a smile as he crept closer towards her, trying to remove her sheets away from her.

He was happy that he somehow got the answer he wanted to hear from her.

“You’re not sinful, (F/N). Look at me.”

(F/N) felt the sheets being taken away from her. Her skin crawled with the sudden loss of protection. She opened her eyes and noticed how Elvis’ face was just inches away from hers. She blushed even more at the sight, making Levi think that her fever was returning.

He held out a hand. (F/N), thinking that he was going to hit her, closed her eyes and braced herself. But, instead of pain, she felt his hand gently touching her forehead.

“You’re hot. You need to get some rest.” He whispered to her, the sound of his deep voice tickling not only her ears, but all of her sensitive nerves. He was about to leave when the girl grabbed a fistful of his clothing.

“Please! D-don’t leave me,…” she said shyly. She looked at him with pleading eyes. “Stay.”

Levi turned back to her and placed a rough, yet gentle hand on top of her head. He started ruffling her hair with a very affectionate look in those blue eyes.

“Alright, I’ll stay. But, promise me that you’ll eat something first before I leave.”

“I promise,…”

Petra and (F/N) waited patiently amongst the crowd. The Scouting Legion was about to leave the town.

And among them, (F/N) saw a dark – haired man on top of the darkest stallion she had ever seen. Beside him were two more people, one a teenage girl with unruly brown hair, and the other a blonde young man who seemed about the same age of the dark – haired man. The brown – haired girl looked very vivacious while the blonde man looked really calm and composed.

On the other hand, the dark – haired man seemed to look very suspicious. It’s as if he doesn’t want to be in this expedition. Or he doesn’t want to be in this place, period.

But, then, those steel – blue eyes,…

It looked as though it was hiding a lot purpose for being in this wretched place.

“Petra, look at that man.” She said to her sister, tugging at her sleeves while pointing at the said man.

"What about it?” Petra just muttered, her eyes busy scanning the Scouts in search of her favorites, Erwin Smith and Mike Zacharius.

“He looks like new a recruit. I’ve never seen him before. Petra!”

“What?!” Petra almost screamed until she finally laid eyes on the man.

Her eyes suddenly grew wide.

“Y-yeah. He is new.”

“And the other two.”

“I wonder,…” began Petra, suddenly becoming less giddy as she looked at the three unknown people, especially that man with the dark hair.

“What?” (F/N) asked.

Petra looked at her and smiled. “Oh, nothing. Just spacing a bit, is all.”

Little did she know that it would be that same man who would become her first everything; her first Captain, her first partner, her first love, her first,…

Unemployment rate is higher than officially recorded, more so for women and certain other groups

Unemployment rate is higher than officially recorded, more so for women and certain other groups;

The COVID-19 outbreak has presented a unique set of measurement challenges for statistical agencies. Most recently, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that the U.S. unemployment rate stood at 13% in May 2020, nonseasonally adjusted. At the same time, the bureau noted that the rate may have been as high as 16% if not for an error in the classification of the employment status of certain workers. Many workers not at work due to COVID-19-related business closures were classified as “employed but absent from work” instead of “unemployed on temporary layoff.”

The extent to which the official rate may understate the actual state of unemployment is greater for women, Asian Americans, immigrants and workers without a bachelor’s degree, according to a new Pew Research Center analysis of government data. For several groups of workers, the unemployment rate likely was 20% or higher in May, up to 5 percentage points greater than reported.

The COVID-19 recession, barely three months old, has had a sharp and severe impact on unemployment among American workers. The coronavirus outbreak has also affected data collection efforts by the U.S. government, potentially understating the true extent of unemployment. This analysis describes how the underestimation of unemployment varied among major demographic groups of workers.

The unemployment rate is the number of jobless workers actively seeking work as a share of workers either at work or actively seeking work. In April and May 2020, there was a sharp rise in workers classified as being “employed but absent from work for other reasons.” Many of these workers should have been counted as “unemployed on temporary layoff,” according to the U.S. government.

The estimates of the “official” and “adjusted” unemployment rate in this analysis are derived from the Current Population Survey (CPS). The CPS is the government’s official source for monthly estimates of unemployment. The “official” estimates are based on the definition used by the government in its published estimates. The “adjusted” unemployment rate includes workers listed as “employed but absent from work for other reasons” in May, less the number of workers so listed in February. The underlying assumption is that the number of workers listed as employed but absent from work for other reasons in February – at the start of the COVID-19 recession – approximates the normal count of these absentees. All estimates are nonseasonally adjusted.

The COVID-19 outbreak has also led to about a 10 percentage point decrease in the response rate for the CPS in March and April 2020 and an even greater decrease in May 2020. It is possible that some measures of unemployment and its demographic composition are affected by these changes in data collection.

In May, 8.3 million workers were classified as employed but absent from work in government data. For some workers, reasons for being absent from work included vacations, illnesses, maternity leave and the like. For nearly two-thirds – 5.4 million workers – the reason for absence from work was recorded as “other,” a number sharply higher than the norm. In February, at the start of the COVID-19 recession, only 600,000 workers were absent from work for other reasons. If the additional 4.8 million workers placed in this category in May were instead listed as unemployed on temporary layoff, the overall unemployment rate would have been 16%, not 13% as officially recorded.

The undercount of unemployment was greater for women than for men. For women, the unemployment rate in May would have been 17.8% instead of the reported 14.3%, an increase of more than 3 percentage points if adjusted for the misclassification error. For men, the adjusted unemployment rate in May would have been 14.5%, not 11.9%, an increase of less than 3 points.

Among racial and ethnic groups, the unemployment rate for Asian workers may have been as high as 20.3% in May. That would have put them on par with Black (19.8%) and Hispanic (20.4%) workers, compared with an adjusted rate of 13.5% for white workers. Notably, the unemployment rate among Asian workers in February was only 2.5%, significantly less than the rate for Hispanic (4.8%) and Black (6.2%) workers.

The experience of Asian workers in the COVID-19 recession stands in contrast to their experience in the Great Recession, when their unemployment rate peaked at a level well below the rates for Black and Hispanic workers. In the current downturn, job losses have been concentrated in the leisure and hospitality sector. While this sector accounted for 11% of total nonfarm employment in February, it accounted for 35% of the total loss in jobs from February to May. Asian, Black and Hispanic workers were about equally likely to be employed in this sector prior to the COVID-19 outbreak.

For immigrant workers, adjusting for the misclassification pushes the unemployment rate to 20.0% in May, compared with the official estimate of 15.8%. The bulk of the adjustment is in the employment status of non-Hispanic immigrant workers, whose unemployment rate rises from 14.9% to 20.2%, a correction of more than 5 percentage points. Following adjustment, the unemployment rate among Hispanic workers, U.S. born or foreign born, is also about 20% or higher in May. The adjusted rate among U.S.-born non-Hispanic workers (14.5%) is much lower than among U.S.-born Hispanic workers.

The unemployment rate for young adult workers, ages 16 to 24, stood at 28.5% in May, following correction, and the adjusted rate for older workers ranged from 12.3% among workers ages 35 to 44 to 15.9% among workers 25 to 34. The extent of the correction ranged from 2.4 percentage points for workers ages 35 to 44 to 3.7 points for workers 55 and older.

Correcting for the measurement error causes a relatively sharp rise in the unemployment rate for workers without a high school diploma, from 18.5% to 22.8% in May. Also, nearly one-in-five workers (18.2%) with a high school diploma only and 16.8% of workers with some college education were likely unemployed in May. Only workers with a bachelor’s degree or higher education maintained an unemployment rate in the single digits (9.5%) following the correction for the misclassification.

The measurement error in the unemployment rate was even greater in April, when the adjusted unemployment rate stood at 19.2% compared with the official rate of 14.4%, record highs in either event in the post-World War II era. Following adjustment, the unemployment rate in April was notably high among workers ages 16 to 24 (32.2%), those without a high school diploma (27.9%), Hispanic workers (24.3%), immigrants (23.5%) and women (20.7%). Unemployment rates similar to these levels were last observed in the Great Depression of the 1930s, when the unemployment rate is estimated to have peaked at about 25%.

College: Don’t just follow your passion

Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life. // Mark Twain

... said every college graduate who's fighting off mountains of student loan debt and struggling to find a job in a challenging job market.

Pessimism aside, when I was in high school I was often heard saying that I'd never get a job which required me to sit in front a computer for 8 hours a day. I wanted to enjoy my job, not slave away in an office for the rest of my life. However, I realized that a week has 168 hours -- and spending only 40 of those pulling in a salary to support the hobbies with which I fill the other 128 doesn't seem like such a bad tradeoff.

Before choosing a degree, or even choosing to go to college, make sure that you understand the sort of career you're signing up for. Will your career support the lifestyle that you dream of? Or are you so focused on the perfect career that you forget about how you want to spend the rest of your time?

Know your career worth

The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes salary information for a number of careers, and I would strongly advise anyone looking at degrees to have a solid understanding of their expected earnings upon graduation.

Time and time again I chat with folks who are sorely disappointed with their inability to get a job in their field after school or have a salary which far underpeforms the interest on their student loans. Don't place yourself in this situation unecessarily!

Know statistics for your school

Most schools keep track of what their graduates earn, how many of their graduates get jobs in their field, and how long it takes to get a job after graduation. Email the admissions office and ask them to provide you with this information so that you can make an educated decision for which school to attend.

Student clubs can be fun, but they won't necessarily help you get a job when you graduate. There certainly is power in networking, but there's even more power in companies in your field having good relationships with your school.

Invest wisely

A college degree is an investment (and also somewhat of a scam, but that's a topic for another post). The underlying idea is that, if you invest x thousands of dollars, you will reap the rewards of a higher-paying job than you could get otherwise. If you put 120K in the stock market, you'd expect to be able to at least pull 120K out in 10 years, and hopefully even more than that. If you put 120K into a college degree, you should be able to define a clear breakeven point and the return on that investment.

For instance, let's assume you can earn 30K/yr with a high school diploma. If you spend 120K on a 4-year degree and, for simplicity, don't work during that time, your actual cost of the degree is 30K/yr * 4 years + 120K = 240K. Upon graduation, let's assume you get a job at 120K/yr. This is 90K/yr more than you could be making with a high school diploma, so your breakeven point is 240K/90K = a little under 3 years post graduation. From here on out, you are +90K/yr from this investment.

Explore alternative majors

If you've discovered that jobs available for the major you're interested in won't give you unlimited paid time off and a six-figure paycheck, perhaps see if you one of your other interests can be monetized. Don't sign yourself up for a degree just to satisfy a hobby; pick up a career which can pay the bills and maintain your hobby on the side.

And explore alternatives to college

Having a college degree is not the only path to a cushy, high-paying job. For instance, take a look at this CNBC article which lists several salary figures which many folks with college degrees struggle to attain.

But... friendships and sororities!

College can be a fantastic life experience, an opportunity to make new friends and explore topics that you wouldn't otherwise be exposed to. However, you can also just join a Meetup, most of which don't cost tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. I jest, slightly, but my point still stands.

It's not just about money

Agreed! But college degrees cost a significant amount of money, and should be treated as the major investments that they are.
