Shelby EXP500 CSS Black Hornet, 1968. In the early 2000s, Carol Shelby commissioned Legendary G.T. Continuation Cars, the authorised builder of recreation classic Shelby Mustangs, to recreate the 1968 “Green Hornet” Shelby hardtop that was used in the late 1960s as an “EXP 500” prototype to explore the feasibility of new technology, including 4-wheel disc brakes, fuel injection and independent rear suspension. Instead of the original’s green paint, Shelby requested Raven Black and stripes with “EXP.500 C.S.S.” Built as an accurate reproduction to represent the Green Hornet after installation of 4-wheel disc brakes but before experimental fuel injection and IRS, the Black Hornet was displayed at the 2008 SEMA.
