Celebrating Black History Month: Shout out. I want to do something a little different this year by acknowledging people who came after those many Black history-makers who paved the way toward today and my way of doing just that is by giving a shout out to the ultra-cool @karlsxn or aka Karl ASMR. I admire Karl's can-do attitude and his aim to venture toward all things positive whenever he can. Plus, his YouTube posts are thumbs up. If you got the tingles, check him out. #celebrateblackhistorymonth #blackpeople #karlasmr #blackhistory #blackhistorymonth2022 #asmr #blackpeople #tingles #currenttimes #blackhistorymontheverymonth #blackhistory365 #blackhistoryisamericanhistory (at Huntsville, Alabama) https://www.instagram.com/p/CaN1tQyJKAT/?utm_medium=tumblr

Negro History week was originated by Carter G. Woodson is observed for the first time on this day Feb 7, 1926. Woodson was an American historian, author, journalist and the founder of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. He was one of the first scholars to study African-American history. “We should emphasize not Negro history but the Negro in history. What we need is not a history of selected races or nations but the history of the world void of national bias, race hate, and religious prejudice.” ✊🏾✊🏾 #cartergwoodson #blackhistorymontheverymonth #overcomeadversity #makingachange #forabettertomorrow https://www.instagram.com/p/BtkslaUFYT54zXqp8GKcc6niGMWvVoP-fFv5i40/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1skq11gsfrqku

Ronald Vernie Dellums was born on November 24, 1935 in Oakland, California to Willa Terry Dellums and Vernie Dellums. His father Vernie Dellums was a longshoreman, and his mother was a labor organizer. After high school Ron Dellums served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1956 after he was denied the college scholarship he had sought. After service in the Marines Dellums, with the help of the G.I Bill and an outside job, attended San Francisco State College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1960. This was followed by an M.A. in Social Welfare from the University of California at Berkeley in 1962. In the same year Dellums began his career as a psychiatric social worker in the California Department of Mental Hygiene in Berkeley. Dellums also taught at San Francisco State University and the University of California, Berkeley. His work soon led him to become involved in community politics. In 1967 at 32, Dellums was elected to the Berkeley City Council. He quickly became known as the spokesperson for African American community affairs and for his radical political beliefs. Look him up and see the accomplishments our brother has succeed in. #ronaldverniedellums #blackhistorymonth #blackhistorymontheverymonth #ourancestors #congress #lyingdownwiththelions #apubliclifefromthestreetsofoaklandtothehallsofpower #20thcentury https://www.instagram.com/p/Bth848fFeSKUlrunGMbAsXjGbmBH3IrD4w9HOk0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=14let6zleb6su

BORING, USELESS CARIBBEAN FACTS: On a hill on the southwest coast of the Caribbean island of Martinique sit 15 eight foot statues. They face the ocean with their shoulders hunched and heads bowed. They were erected there in 1998 by local sculptor, Laurent Valére, in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the emancipation of enslaved Africans in the French West Indies. The statues are carefully placed in a triangle, referencing the Triangular Trade, and set to an angle of 110 degrees in a direct line with the Gulf of Guinea on the west coast of Africa and here is the story attached. France banned the African Slave Trade in 1817 (to become effective in 1826), but this did not stop slave traders from continuing the practice where they felt they could get away with it. One such attempt brought a ship with a locked down cargo of enslaved Africans to the rocky southwest coast of French Martinique on the night of April 7th, 1830. To avoid detection, slavers would opt to anchor their ships at night out at sea away from established ports. On that fateful night, the ship crashed into the rocks offshore and sank. About 40 Africans, tied up in the hull of the ship, perished. Those who survived were rescued by local residents in the area, but with their legal status unknown to the local government, the survivors were sent to Cayenne (today's French Guiana) and disappeared from the pages of history. Thanks to my Facebook pal Dexter Tyson for always edifying his friends. #boringuselesscaribbeanfacts #caribbeanhistory #caribbean #martinique #blackhistory #slavery #neverforget #stainonhumanity #knowyourhistory #blackhistorymontheverymonth #letthehealingbegin #truthandreconciliation
